LEGO / LEGO Harry Potter (Wizarding World)
« on: August 1, 2018, 02:55 PM »
Has anyone been picking up the new Harry Potter LEGOs? We were sort of late to the game the last time on these, but our daughter got most of the current sets for her birthday this year and they are pretty nifty. Plus, the newest minifigure series is out today and is totally based on Potter and a little bit of Fantastuc Beasts. Really a nice assortment of figures.

Solo / Solo Store Finds and Recent Purchases
« on: April 13, 2018, 01:53 PM »
Seems like finds have been a little spotty according to the reports I've seen so far. I went to two Targets this morning, about mid morning, and had decent luck but there were some things I didn't see at all.

First Target had an end cap display, and nothing new in the aisle except for a Black Series Han that has been there since last weekend. They had some of the basic figures (picked up Qi'Ra, Chewie, and Range Trooper), one set of TVC (grabbed Snoke, Hoth Trooper, and Rey), and some Funko (grabbed Lando and the Target exclusive Han). They had a couple LEGO sets (bad guy speeder and TIE), but that was it so far. No two packs, vehicles of any size, or beast/deluxe packs.

My second Target stop (which we call the "little" Target), had no end cap but the aisle was fully stocked. They had most everything: basic figs, starter pack w/Han, both sized Falcons, two packs, deluxe beast packs, Han's speeder, etc. They also had a lone Black Series Dewback. They also had a full set of TVC, black series (no Tarkin or Lando), and the misc. nerf and Hot Wheels stuff. Also some LEGO.

As far as what I didn't see at all:

Mimban Stormtrooper (basic line)
Maz Kanata (basic line)
Wampa with Luke Skywalker
Chewbacca (Black Series Target Exclusive)
Grand Moff Tarkin (Black Series)
Any Black Series past the initial wave
LEGO Kessel Run Falcon
LEGO  Han Speeder

All in all I'm happy with my finds. I was really hoping to find that Black Series Chewie, but maybe he isn't out yet. I do sort of want the new Falcon toy, just because I like all things Falcon, but looking at it I just didn't want to spend $100 on it. I also sort of wanted to get the LEGO Falcon, but that should be no problem to pick up later. Biggest disappointment I think is not finding the Wampa set, honestly 🙂.  Also, it has been mentioned before, but it really is weird there is no Han in the basic assortment. At the first Target I was at (with the end cap), they didn't carry the Falcon, speeder, or starter pack yet, so you literally couldn't but a Han Solo figure from the Solo movie.

Other Toy Lines / Your First Action Figure (Any Line)
« on: April 11, 2018, 01:41 PM »
Sometimes the memories can get a little fuzzy, but do any of you remember your first figure for your favorite lines? It seems like those toys/characters always hold a special place. Here's mine to the best of my memory:

Star Wars: Chewbacca (and I think Obi-Wan as well) - I remember getting these from friends of the family, who had a son around my age who was one of those kids who had almost everything. They shared the Star Wars love with these two figures. I don't remember if it was birthday or Christmas.

G.I. Joe ARAH: Duke - My first Joe was a birthday gift from one of my best friends, and the "Joe" kid of our class. He and his brother had a treasure trove of Joe stuff, and had a lot of fun playing at their house. Duke went on many a solo mission for awhile, but I remember thinking the fact that you could put in his backpack, binoculars, and helmet was pretty rad.

He-Man: He-Man and Battle Cat - Basically all my He-Man stuff came from my parents. I didn't get a ton of toys as a kid, but they must have saw something special with the MOTU stuff because I also ended up getting Grayskull, Snake Mountain, the Attack Trak, etc.

Transformers: Sideswipe - in my Easter basket one year. My first Transformer, and even though it isn't large, it was my biggest one as a kid.

Super Powers: Batman and Robin - Together, for my birthday. I remember asking a lot for these and the Batmobile leading up to my bday, never did get the Batmobile but hope to track one down eventually.

Secret Wars: Spider-Man

Thundercats: Panthro

Vintage Kenner / Best Vintage Figure Stands?
« on: April 10, 2018, 02:00 PM »
Apologies if this topic exists here somewhere, I didn't see it on a quick glance. I was just curious if anyone had specific recommendations for figure stands for vintage figures. I am finally getting close to my long delayed goal of having a complete loose run from Star Wars to ROTJ (hopefully the POTF stuff someday), and have started thinking about display. Anyways, I know there are plenty of options out there, but I just thought I'd check to see if any were better than the rest. I've seen lots of the plain circular stands in eBay, and also some rectangular ones with the Kenner logo as well. It may not make any difference, but I was wondering if some were a better fit than others.

Other Toy Lines / Are Toys Still Fun?
« on: April 6, 2018, 02:22 PM »
As I've been researching and watching videos relating to the toys of my youth, it made me wonder if toys are still fun for kids. It may just be nostalgia, but it seems like toy lines in the 80s were more fun and general. Between Star Wars, G.I. Joe, He-Man, and Super Powers, you had toy lines that were either 5 POA, or had action features, but either way we're a blast for kids of my generation.

I was watching a collection tour one day where the narrator was showing figures from the last couple years of Hasbro, and commented that while he still bought them, they were just kind of boring. I can see the point. Although the return of the vintage collection, and the advent of things like the Sail Barge, have admittedly made the future look much better - that is aimed more at us than at kids.

I get that kids age out of toys sooner these days, or turn to other areas like video games, tablets, or LEGOs. Times have changed, but I just miss those simpler days. Toys were fun, collections were attainable even for kids, with 10-20 figures per year, and many figures continued to be released and re-released. There was one Chewie, one Vader, one Superman, etc.

Joe Defender / The Future of G.I. Joe?
« on: March 7, 2018, 06:04 PM »
I was watching Retroblasting's most recent live stream on YouTube this week where the topic was the future of Joe. Fun stuff, but it did make me wonder if there was much future for the line. One of the greats of my childhood, especially with all the amazing vehicles, etc. included. Honestly, I felt fairly complete with modern figures, just because of the all around great 25th (and compatible) lines. I guess I thought eventually we would get a 6" Black Series styled line at some point, which I think was rumored at some point (Jeff's post on the forums I believe). Maybe we will see something if the whole Haslab model takes off.

The Vintage Collection / Will the Return of TVC Change Your Purchases?
« on: February 27, 2018, 04:06 PM »
Was thinking about this today, does the return of the Vintage Collection change your collecting of the 5 POA or elsewhere? I mean, at this point they just don't have the coverage of characters to compete (for example Solo), but maybe eventually if things take off.

I understand why both exist, but I sure miss the simpler days of just a single Star Wars line that was more uniform (with maybe a "Collection 1" or "Collection 2"). I know I'll probably get both, or at least some of both.

Other Toy Lines / Favorite Line(s) of All Time
« on: September 5, 2017, 05:51 PM »
As I've been going through my collection this year, parting with some of it and reorganizing some of it, it has made me a little nostalgic. I started going back through some of the older threads here and reliving the discussions and excitement as some lines were being released. Obviously, lots of Star Wars, but also the beginnings of the GI Joe 25th line, MOTU Classics, Marvel Legends, etc. Also, as a side note, how great was 2007 for collecting? The 30th Anniversary Collection for Star Wars (with McQuarrie figures), and the beginnings of the GI Joe 25th line!

Anyways, what are some of your favorite toy lines of all time? Childhood (since that is often where it starts) or all the way up to today.  Here's a few off the top of my head:

Star Wars (Vintage)
Star Wars (30th)
Star Wars (VOTC, continuing to the Vintage Collection)
G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary Collection
Masters of the Universe Classics
Marvel Legends
DC Universe Classics

Not sure if is the right board for this, so feel free to move. With the 40th anniversary of the original Star Wars coming up in May, plus Hasbro's hints that we will see something, what would you like to see?

The line in general has changed so much in the past few years it is difficult to know what to expect. Could it be mainly repacks of the 5 POA ANH figures they have done over the past few years (possibly on vintage cards)? Does the Wal-Mart grip on the SA 3 3/4" exclude re-releases of past figures (like from the VOTC ERA?

I don't necessarily expect them to do anything to huge (although if I was dreaming the long-requested Death Star would be nice), but I hope we see something that at least honors the original 12 or 21 figures. I do wish sometimes they could return to the VOTC/VTSC concept of having 12-18 "ultimate" type figures per year, on vintage cards. Many of those figures have been done nearly perfectly (Han, Chewie, Obi, Vader, etc), so I would understand repacks of those in some ways.

If you look on the 6" side, it would be neat to see the vintage packaging concept applied there too, even if it is just for a limited number of ANH figures. I'd love to see a 6" Hammerhead, Walrusman, or Jawas here, along with many others. I also think a 6" scale Landspeeder would be kind of neat (or a Millennium Falcon cockpit). Anyways, what would you like to see for the anniversary? Original Trilogy figures have been pretty rare since the new movies started (particularly in the smaller scale), so it would be nice to see at least a small return to that.

Modern Classifieds / WTB: Loose Rey Figures
« on: June 20, 2016, 03:08 PM »
I mentioned it in the Takodana Encounter thread, but if anyone is looking to unload the Rey figure from that set, please let me know. Our daughter is having a Star Wars birthday next month, and we were looking to pack a Rey figure in each of the gift bags for her friends if we were able to get some picked up in time. I've already had a couple of helpers here (thanks Rob and Diddly!), which has been amazing. Thanks so much.

I know it may be a long shot, but I was wondering if any one here may have an extra copy of the Solo figure variant to Star Wars 2, or know of one available. I was hoping to keep up a set of these but unfortunately missed the earlier ones and in specific my favorite Han Solo. eBay prices look to be crazy so I thought I'd check here. Thanks for any help.

Star Wars Action Figures / Custom TFA Luke Skywalker Action Figure
« on: September 2, 2015, 12:22 PM »
Saw this a few days ago, but hadn't seen it here yet.  Not sure if it is legit or not, but could be a possible look at a Force Awakens Luke Skywalker in this line:

The Force Awakens / Force Friday: What are You Buying?
« on: August 21, 2015, 10:57 AM »
After looking through all the pics and info over the past couple weeks, I've been trying to come up with a game plan for Force Friday (or that weekend, or whenever you get out to shop).  I've sold stuff/set aside money in anticipation, and hope to stick to a budget and not go too crazy.  I know that reactions to the stuff have been mixed, so I was curious what everyone hopes to pick up from this line?  For me, I think its looking like this:

Basic Figures - One of each of the new characters, likely passing on stuff we've seen before (Bespin Luke, Vader, etc.)  Same goes for the armor up figures, might get the Chewie and Poe.

Vehicles - I'd like to get the new Falcon, I dig the X-Wing and TIE as well.  Not sure if I'll get all three right off the bat, but eventually.  The smaller vehicles will be case by case, definitely want Rey's speeder though.

Black Series - All of these please, aside from the ginormous TIE.  Still undecided on that one.

Aside from that, I'll have to wait and see if we get anymore that wasn't listed in recent pictures.  I'll likely continue to get all "new" characters from the Force Awakens, and hold out hope for a more SA line eventually too.  Also, for some reason I sort of want that NERF Chewie bowcaster.  I'll be looking at the LEGOs as well, but that's a whole other thread :).
