Collector's Tips / Re: Opened Cards... what to do with them?
« on: October 30, 2006, 03:31 PM »
I used to throw away the bubbles and clip the bios on the backs of my cards up until the time of RotS. Then I began saving both the blister and the card.

Last week, I realized how much of a hassle is to keep both the carded blisters around, so I'm clipping the  bubble and stashing the cards into ring binders.

I'm not actually punching holes on the cards to attach them to the binders, mind you, but slipping them inside those sheet protector thingies you get at Office Max and such.

This method allows me to have them stashed away while making easy to consult them.

I think the line is well, and still going strong.

Then again, maybe this is my impression just because I am still thick into it, but overall, product seems to be selling well, and the seasonal slowdown might have more to do with poor distribution and store resets than actual market shrinkage.

still waiting for my set from starwarsshop, they charged my credit card, but still haven't shipped it out yet  >:(

The thing I like about EE is that they really charge you when the item is ready to ship.

Mine should be arriving in a couple of days or so....

Four. They are fine, but I think I have as many as I need right now.

Looking forward to next year's repaint, though.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: How many SAGA2 Sandtroopers do you have?

I have about six of those Sandtrooper guys. They look so nifty en masse...
 ;)

I have only two.

For some reason, these and the Firespeeder pilot don't seem to me as "army-build-able" as other trooper type figures, so I think I might go as far as three of each, but that's it.

Which reminds me, Have you noticed if your DS Gunners have no eyebrows painted on?. I think it might be a production line error, but mine are eyebrow-less.

Perhaps they are Scorch clones? ::)

You mean it is stuck?. What I do whenever a joint doesn't turn or I get the feel that the plastic is going to tear if I apply too much force, is stick the figure in the freezer for a couple hours.

The low temperature makes the rubber firmer, and makes the stray paint/glue more brittle. After the figure has been frozen, take it out and try to bend the knee slowly.

This method has worked fine for me in the past, especially with McFarlane figures, and man, THOSE are so cheaply made that they come apart when you pull them out of the blister.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: scorches leg swap?

That looks awesome, Chewie. I can totally see it as a Katarn MkIII armor. Maybe it'd need the t-visor painted blue as in the original Scorch?. I think that's suppossed to be one of the trademarks of the Katarn suits of armor...

I picked up 2X Scorch 2X orange clones, Sora Bulq, Sun Fac and Poggle the Lesser at a couple local WalMarts.  ;D

Still no VSTC figures in sight here.

Never really did any stubble on this scale, but once for a 28 mm figure I used a mix of flesh and grayish green. I wonder how it'd look on a 1/18 scale figure...

I prime the areas I am going to paint with brush-on acryllic primer, and the paints I use are Citadel. I have never really have any of it peel away nor chip, and the finish is pretty much as matte as the factory paintjobs. as a matter of fact, sometimes I need to mix a little acryllic gloss into my paints so it matches the glossiness of the original paintjobs.

I rarely use spray sealer (matte or glossy) on my figures, but normally I don't spray the whole figure. Often I'll use masking tape or pieces of paper to mask the areas I don't want hit by the spray.

Joints can be tricky, even primed. What I do is lightly sand part of the joint most likely to get chipped with very fine grit sandpaper. It gives the plastic a slightly rough surface to which the paint clings to as well, if not better, than to primer.

I did that to the shoulder joints of my custom 501st  Clone, and paint has held nicely, even though I didn't prime the piece, nor applied dullcote to it.
