`Ali G Show' speaks with many voices (http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/tv/mmx-0407160075jul16,0,5710234.story?coll=mmx-television_heds)
Perhaps even funnier are Cohen's two other alter egos, Borat, "Kazakhstan's premier journalist," and Bruno, a gay Austrian fashion victim. In the first two episodes of the second season of this imported character study, Borat wrangles his way into an Oklahoma city council meeting and forces the members into a 10-minute moment of silence for what he claims is the anniversary of a massacre back home.
And from an article in yesterday's "Oklahoman":
Journalist Borat Sagdiyev's prank hasn't been forgotten at City Hall. His 17-minute appearance at the traffic commission included comments on "US'n'A" democracy, the role of women in government, digestive troubles and his romantic intentions toward a female commissioner.
This "incident" was even featured as a story on at least one of our local news channels.
I was totally unfamiliar with Borat and the rest of "Da Ali G" crew until I saw the first episode of the new season last week, and man, it was good stuff.
The second episode, with the OKC prank, airs tonight at 9:30 Central on HBO.
-
This is one of the funniest shows on tv. If you saw what Borat was up to last week, you would die laughing! He went to a wine tasting in North Carolina, and he was just chugging down a lot of wine. Then he whipped out some photos of his "sister" to show to the other guys at the wine tasting. I can't believe they might have even shown that part.
-
I was actually wondering who this dudes name was yesterday. I remember seeing him on Conan about 3 weeks ago, and man was that hilarious!
So, is Borat for real? Or is it just a shitck?
-
Borat is just one of Ali G's characters. I think the Borat segments are usually the best part of every Alig Show episode.

Tonight's synopsis from HBO: (http://www.hbo.com/apps/schedule/ScheduleServlet?ACTION_DETAIL=DETAIL&FOCUS_ID=613989)
Ali G has a serious sit-down with conservative icon Patrick Buchanan, pondering the prospect of presidential partnerships, "him"-igration pros and cons, and Iraq's possession of "BLTs." Borat hits the campaign trail in Oklahoma with a congressional candidate, then delivers a speech to the City Council after getting tips from the state's Republican Party chairman. Ali G presides over an animal-rights roundtable with Robert Byrne (Wildlife Management Institute), Lt. Colonel Dennis Foster (Master of the Foxhounds Association of America), Holly Hazard (Doris Day Animal League) and Rodger Curren (Institution for Invitro Sciences), then visits a farm in search of the answer to a question on everybody's mind: why are there are so many Vietnam veterinarians?

Hilarious show, when I had HBO I loved to watch it.
One of my favorite moments was when Ali G was talking to a scientist about different states of matter. Ali G says "So, what you're telling me is, it's impossible for a gas to change into a solid? ... I dont think that's right. The other night I was at the theater with my girl, and I felt some gas getting ready to come out, but it came out a solid instead"
Or, something along that line... Fantastic show. Borat rocks.
-
Man, you guys don't know how relieved I was when the politician who said that Jewish people were going to hell was revealed to be from Mississippi, and not the Sooner State. . .
-
That was so freakin funny last night. I love when he was on the campaign trail with that hardcore right wing guy, and he told the woman that the guy would be a strong leader, like Stalin.
-
New episode tonight!
Sing along with Borat as he entertains an Arizona country-and-western bar with his Kazakhstan hit, "Throw the Jew Down the Well".

. . .this stunt pulled by HBO is just one more reason why I believe that the liberal, anti-God media needs to be brought under the strict control of the FCC, and that as soon as possible.
-
I'm gonna miss it tomorrow night. I'm running to a wrestling PPV, but plan to On-Demand it if that's available on that service. It should be.
My buddy Dan just got into Da Ali G show as well... Tremendous. I'm finding a lot dislike the show overall though. I don't get that. Some who love the Daily Show's bits are critical of Da Ali G show. Doesn't make sense to me, but whatever.

Oh man, what a douche! Since when is the FCC supposed to uphold a positive view of religion? I think the FCC butts its head in too much as it is...
-
So the consenus here is that if one doesn't have HBO and hasn't really seen the Ali G show and only has one hysterical appearance on Conan to go by, it's worth the 23$ to just pick up the DVD tomorrow?
-
Always rent it of course... Make sure.
Myself, I think he's funny, but I think he's funny the same reason I think the interviews are funny on the Daily Show. People look dumb.
The difference here is that oon the Daily Show they're often morons anyway, or most would consider them such. On Da Ali G show, a lot of these people are protecting us, and making the decisions that will affect our lives, and even the world as a whole, for many years.
They're still dumb.
I personally think the $23 would be worth it just to see his character from Kazakhstan... Borat.
"I want to make romance to you... Only if you allow".
Drunk or sober, that is a funny character every week.
-
"He was coming at me with a...with his..."
"With a knife?"
"No...with his...with a"
"Club?"
"No, how do you say...with his Penis?"
-
My favorite Borat quotes involve him describing someone who has "broken his ah-noose", or when he talks about the time his sister was voted Kazakhstan's "best sex in mouth".
But without a doubt, the best Borat moment so far was "Throw the Jew Down the Well".

Hah, classic Borat... :) I saw that on something else recently that was touting it as the new man-thong...
As Borat would say, "Niiice, Niiice".

Please. You come see my film. If it not success, I will be execute.
November can't come soon enough. :)
-
So all of the people in this movie are regular people? Or is lots of it staged? Ali G da Movie was a straight up script type thing without him messing with real people... the trailer makes it look like this isn't the case here.
-
I was trying to figure that out myself. Based off the feminists and the hotel receptionist, that doesn't seem to be the case... but I can't be sure.
-
Saw the trailer for this when I went to see Talladega Nights...

Borat's now on MySpace! (http://www.myspace.com/borat)
Be sure to check out his welcome video:
"I also want make-a non-homosexual male friends for make-a chit-chat about popular music, space rockets, and-a new ways of trap gypsies."
Sounds like he could fit in pretty well around here, too.
Welcome to my Top Eight, Borat.

Uh-oh:
Kazakhstan fights back ahead of Borat film release (http://film.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,,1882601,00.html)
Dan Glaister in Los Angeles
Thursday September 28, 2006
The Guardian
Kazakhstan: land of superstition, religious intolerance, political suppression and goats. Wrong. Kazakhstan is actually a country of metals and machinery, an outward-looking, modern nation with a stable economy that attracts foreign investors to its cosmopolitan capital.
The Kazakh government took the unusual step yesterday of publishing a four-page colour supplement in the New York Times in what appeared to be in part an attempt to head off the fallout from a satirical film due out in November. Borat: Cultural Leanings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is the latest work from Ali G creator Sacha Baron Cohen. The film lampoons the central Asian nation through Borat Sagdiyev, a Kazakh journalist who travels to the US to report on local customs.
Before leaving he introduces the audience to his sister, "number four prostitute in whole of Kazakhstan", and shows the village tradition of "the running of the Jew", a variation on Pamplona's bull running. Once in the US he releases chickens on the New York subway, mangles the Star Spangled Banner before a rodeo audience and abandons his pursuit of local tradition for a quest to meet Pamela Anderson.
Festival audiences have found the film hilarious, raising expectations that it will be a hit. But the Kazakh government is not amused. Since the Borat character first appeared it has protested and threatened legal action against the depiction of Kazakhstan as a backward haven for anti-Semites. To counter the image of its country in the film - which was shot in the US and Romania - the government has funded a $50m tribal epic called Nomad.
The Kazakh president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, was due to arrive in the US yesterday for a trip that will include a meeting with President George Bush.
-
I saw the trailer for this movie at Jackass Number Two, and I have to say, it has me hooked in. I'm looking forward to seeing this Borat in action.

-
I'm just dying that Kazakhstan is 'fighting' back. That's hilarious!
If they want to reach Americans they should buy an add on a show like Lost instead of an ad spread in a newspaper.
-
Apparantly Borat was trying to interview "George Walter Bush" today while the PM of Kazakhstan was at the White House and he got denied. I love it.
-
JD from the Howard Stern show saw a screening of the Borat movie and said it was "one of the funniest things ever created". I can't wait. I'm still confused though on how much of it's acting and how much isn't.
-
I was listening to NPR and they had the director who left the project early in production on the show, and he all but said that the only one acting was Sasha Baron Cohen himself.
-
Niiiiiiiice... Niiiiiiice...
His nuthugger suit should be an avatar.

It'd be right up there with an animated Borat Running Man avatar.

You guys are so lame.
At least you two don't have animated borat avatars to rip off my style with.

I love "Da Ali G show". Can't wait for the movie.
I really wanna see a real Ali movie before Bruno, Bruno's my least favorite guy on the show. I can live with out a Borat avatar.

AICN has the first four minutes of the movie up, along with four deleted scenes that are pretty funny in and of themselves:

Borat Avatars are so overrated.
-
Especially when you weren't the first, and you don't have an animated one.
Honestly guys, I'm disappointed that you two can't come up with something all by yourselves that you can really own. >:(

I've got the name signing thing at the end of my posts going for me.

Can you animate mine, Rob? Hell you had to make this one for me.

Didn't you hear him? He wants to be the sole owner of a Borat avatar in this forum. Come up with something original for yourself, you copy-cat!!

My Borat tribute is a little more subtle than the rest. Hopefully someone here reads Polish.

I just got back from the movie... absolutely ******* hilarious.
The only problem that I had, was that with some of the anti-semetic jokes...the audience wasn't laughing in the right kind of way. And what I mean by that was, I don't think most people got the joke... I think they just thought making fun of jews was hilarious.
Other than that disappointing audience reaction, I laughed my ass off.
-

In Dallas?
Then I am loathe to think what the crowd reaction will be here in SudKarolina.
-
Hell yeah in Dallas. Dallas is in TEXAS afterall.
-
Saw this movie after reading the good reviews. One of the funniest, but stupidest, movies I have ever seen. I'll recommend it, but I think I will forget all of it by in the next couple of days.
-
Can you animate mine, Rob? Hell you had to make this one for me.
I did no such thing. Jeff made yours didn't he?
I'd have told you to come up with your own idea if you'd asked me to make you a Borat Avatar. >:(
-
I caught it this afternoon and was mildly amused. Honestly, it was too unbalanced to seem credible. Both the movie and the character, that is. Some funny quips, some shockingly ignorant remarks, and some immature attention grabbing moments to create controversy and sell tickets.
-
I must be in the minority because I don't see what the big deal is over Borat. Granted, I haven't seen the Ali G show so I must be "in the dark" in regards to some of the jokes/character but from what I've seen in the trailers, it's simple slapstick humor.
Take an immigrant, throw him in NYC and watch the craziness ensue!
Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just not my cup of tea.
And I could be totally off base with my observations; if so, just ignore me.
-
I am right there with you Ruiner. I saw like ten minutes of this movie back in comic-con in July. And they showed the entire fight with the big fat naked guy. It wasnt funny at all. Just gross. I have no interest in seeing this movie. Its like a one-note act.
-

Haven't seen the flick yet (was supposed to go last night--going next week instead), and I agree that there are some bits in the trailers which look a little slap-sticky (antique store scene, I guess--which looks hilarious to me). But from what other stuff I've seen of Mr. Sagdiyev, the humor comes from playing on the naivety a lot of people have about foreigners--which usually either results in some candidness (uncomfortable for the viewer) or awkward silence, and those types of things don't translate to teasers and trailers very well.
It could go either way for people, though, I guess--depending on their sense of humor. I had my mom watch the OKC segment, and she didn't get it, and didn't like it because he was making fun of unsuspecting dumb people (or people who should otherwise know better). But that was the very reason that my dad ate it up with a spoon (and incidentally, he liked it so much that he wants to see the movie, too).
Anyway, here's a couple of segments I really love (both from season two of Da Ali G Show):
Wine-tasting in Mississippi (http://youtube.com/watch?v=_re-Qg-C6s4) (okay, so that's somewhat slapsticky)
Learning Country and Western Music (http://youtube.com/watch?v=EaJ8TjXLkDI) (that too) :-X
To me, that's comedy gold, but I know it's not everybody's cup of tea.
---
(Where's Franklin?)
-
Hell yeah in Dallas. Dallas is in TEXAS afterall.
Right, but Dallas is a whole lot more urbanized than, say, Columbia or Greenville.*
Anyway, I really want to see this movie. I had intended to see it last Sunday, but those plans fell through. Caught Borat on the Daily Show last week, and I was fairly amused throughout.
(*Though I do realize that it's a logical fallacy to equate urbanization with progressive thought.)
-
Me and my friends are going to see it on friday ;D .
-
I guess it was bound to happen. A couple of dumbasses (http://celebrity.aol.com/people/ataol/articles/0,26618,1557935,00.html) decided to sue because Borat made them look like racist/sexist morons. ::)
-
OMG!
It is the funniest movie of the year!
Me and 5 of my friends went to go see it, it was hilarious, I loved the bear in the ice cream truck. ;D
-
I'm going to see it soon, I just finished "Da Ali G Show". I hope after Bruno Ali gets his own reality movie.
"This is racilist!" ;D
-
I don't know what you mean by "reality," but "Ali G Indahouse" came out in 2002.
I've never seen it, but from what I've heard, it doesn't have the interactions with real people. Maybe that's what you meant by "reality."
-
I saw Borat last night. I don't think I've ever laughed as hard as I did during the naked wrestling scene. That was comedic genius. There were some definite slow parts but overall it was great. It just urks me that America has grabbed hold of something I've loved for the last 5 years. Just like they did with Coldplay
-
Whatever dude, I was listening to Muse way before you were. ::)
-
I don't think I've ever laughed as hard as I did during the naked wrestling scene.
Finally saw his moviefilm last night, and hands down that one scene is the funniest one I've ever seen in my whole life. Everything else was pretty good, but that scene. . . holy ****, it was worth the price of admission alone.
-
I went to a matinee showing of this yesterday and I haven't laughed that hard at a film in years. One woman actually got up and walked out during the hotel room wrestling match; a walkout by an incensed patron from a movie that people knew would be offensive beforehand is always a sign of quality to me. :)
As for the frat boys, it really seemed like they had to be made to talk like that. ::)
The most disturbing thing to me is the number of ignorant comments made by people who obviously weren't in on the joke. I live reasonably close (a few hours) to the location of the rodeo in the film and that oh-so-charming guy with his hanging commentary before the show, and that really bothered me. I mean, Borat's a character, but that guy was not a character. The only redeeming fact for him, the frat boys, and the guy with the collectible store (classy bumper stickers, btw) is that now the entire country knows what ******** they are. ;D
-
I always new that there were some sad, messed up people in this country. Then I saw Borat. I don't if I was laughing so hard because of how ridiculous the gags were (in a genius way) or because the "Gaged" actually live in the same country as I do. ;D
One of the funniest movies I've ever seen. And I'm willing to bet that over half the people who see this movie and think it's brilliant, miss the point of it entirely.
-
I caught it this afternoon and was mildly amused. Honestly, it was too unbalanced to seem credible.
Because, clearly, credibility is what the film was shooting for.
-

Seriously, I think credible is one of the last words the filmmakers wanted associated with the movie.
-
Saw it Monday, all I have to say is.... BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR! :D
I love this movie & can't wait for the movie.
-
And by your redundancy of the use of the word movie, you mean DVD?
Or are you getting at something we're not privy to?
Kevin
-
Yeah, DVD....Just ignore stupid **** like that from me, I'm retarded. :P....... :-\

Which is funny for a mostly improvised movie. I guess it was more of a pity nod then anything since they're too good to break down the best film by genre. God I hate the Oscars...

You'd be surprised how much it wasn't. Yes, there was improve (Sasha Cohen did have to think on his feet,) but every scene was meticulously scripted, the writers spent an hours discussing what color the bag of feces should be. Even the improve had scripted scenarios for all the possible outcomes. And it wasn't a pity nod. The point of the oscars is to award innovation and the writers were innovative in crafting the story. It's a well deserved nod.

95% of the movie was by luck.

How they're gonna do it with out every one saying "HEY BORAT!" I don't know, but I'm happy.
Bruno will be promising.

95% of the movie was by luck.
Read my above post. I've been to two screenwiting events with the writers and Cohen himself talking about how they pulled the movie off.
-
Picked up Borat on DVD yesterday. Have yet to watch it though.
-
400 hours were filmed. :o
That's enough to make a sequel..... or atleast a straight to DVD movie.
