The Vintage Collection / 2010 "Best Of" The Vintage Collection
« on: December 28, 2010, 10:32 AM »
I know the Vintage Collection technically didn't start until the Fall, and we've really only seen three waves so far (or two for some), but I thought it was the time to start a "best of 2010" list since we've only got a few days left in the year here.  Since aside from exclusive packaging differences there wasn't a lot of "vintage" aside from the figures themselves, we could maybe include any vehicle, battle pack, or exclusives that focused on the movies themselves (or EU).  Anything non-CW could qualify here I guess.  What are your favorite figures, vehicles, exclusives, etc. for 2010?

Just a handful of MOTU Classics figures for sale, in case anyone missed them.  They are all carded, just as they shipped to me (in shipping boxes and all).  I'll likely continue to add the majority of the upcoming releases (for the rest of 2011), as the majority of them aren't figures I necessarily "need".  Prices don't include shipping (I'll combine if you want multiple), and PayPal is preferred.  Thanks for looking!

Hall of Justice / DC Imaginext
« on: October 12, 2010, 10:44 AM »
I thought I had seen these discussed on here somewhere before, but didn't see them in the DC board (or I missed them).  Anyways, I don't follow the line closely or anything, but we were walking through one of those TRU Express stores this weekend and I saw a Green Lantern w/Jet that I hadn't seen before for this line.  Like I said, could be old news and I'm sorry if it is, but it looked kind of spiffy and I thought I'd just pass it along for anyone interested.  I know sometimes those Express stores have a few different items that you don't see at "regular" TRU stores (our Express stores have the 25th anniversary Turtles line, for example), so I thought I would pass it along just in case.

Modern Classifieds / WTB: WM Exclusive Jabba w/Oola
« on: September 5, 2010, 03:15 PM »
Since the majority of the stores in our area don't seem to be carrying this, and I'm not sure when WM.com might restock, I thought I'd ask for help here.  If anyone happens to have a decent supply of these in their area and would be willing to pick one up for me, I'd really appreciate the help.  Thanks!

Nevermind, happened to find one this past weekend.  Thanks anyways!

Star Wars Universe / IGN's Top 100 Star Wars Characters
« on: August 10, 2010, 10:27 AM »
Since this technically covers both trilogies (and possibly EU), I figured I would post this here.  IGN has a feature running this week covering their Top 100 Star Wars Characters.  I think it will be updated each day, as they near #1 on the list, but I just thought I would pass it along for discussion.

The Vintage Collection / Better "Toys" Vintage or Modern?
« on: August 6, 2010, 12:52 PM »
I wasn't sure where was the right place to post this, but as this is the most current "modern" line, I thought I'd try here.  This sort of branches off of something Adam Pawlus mentioned in his Q and A (I believe this past week).  He was sort of talking about his preference to the simpler articulation styles (and sturdier toys) of our youth, compared with stuff of today.  It got me to thinking, what are better "toys" vintage or modern?  Sure, the modern stuff looks a million times better - there's rarely a question of that - but from a "kid" standpoint of playing with toys, which is better?

I think both obviously have their strong points.  Like I said, the modern stuff - especially the current stuff - looks absolutely amazing for the most part.  The sculpt, paint, articulation, all adds up to some really nice figures lately - and in some cases (Gamorrean Guard as an example) - they look like they jumped off the movie screen.  On the vintage side of things, sure they weren't all that accurate (although I don't remember minding too much as a kid), I never remembered opening any of my vintage figures and having a body part fall off of it right away (which does happen sometimes today).

The vehicles is a little difficult to judge too.  I think the vintage stuff was great for its time, and obviously held up today as we continued to see the same molds used for quite some time (and sometimes still today).  But, after playing with some of the recent "new" vehicles (BMF Falcon, AT-AT, Snowspeeder, SAGA Landspeeder, AT-TE, Jedi Starfighers, etc.), I might say that the modern vehicles are the winner here.  The sculpts are better, the features are getting better (as we see lights/sounds included again as well), and I think they are even more durable.  I know that the new Falcon, AT-AT, AT-ST, Snowspeeder, etc. all feel a lot more sturdy than their POTF2 (or vintage) counterparts in my collection.  The figures, in some way is a toss up.  I love the figures of today, but there is always that nostalgia for the vintage line that won't go away either.  The vintage toys were probably sturdier, which may make them a winner there - but the modern ones look so nice.

I was going through boxes, cardbacks, etc. (or, as my wife calls it, "trash") this week, and found a number of these packaging inserts (from vehicles) with the "diorama" backgrounds.  Although I do think it is a nice idea, just due to my display space and everything I haven't really used them (aside from the interior from the Dagobah X-Wing from a couple years ago, I still have that displayed in there).  I was just wondering if anyone here uses the backgrounds, or do you just toss them?

Other Collectibles / Star Wars Mighty Beanz
« on: July 30, 2010, 06:38 PM »
Looks like Star Wars had joined the ranks of the Mighty Beanz.  I remember the Marvel ones from a few years back (or maybe they're still going?) and they were kind of nifty.

Not sure if this had its own thread already or not, but the first full trailer was shown at SDCC, and is on Yahoo Movies.

Shadows of the Dark Side / TRU "Legacy of the Dark Side" 2 Packs
« on: July 21, 2010, 09:09 PM »
Just noticed these in the coverage at TNI, and didn't see them mentioned yet (unless I missed it).  Nothing too exciting, as it appears to be all repacks - but there appears to be a Fett pack ("orphan to Bounty Hunter"), a Grievous pack (the pre cyborg one and the regular version), and an Anakin to Vader pack.  Apparently exclusive somewhere (I think we saw these rumored before), priced at $12.99.

Just checking out this year's list over at Yahoo/CNN Money.  I guess you MN guys must know something, with 5 cities in the top 100 - and the number one overall this year (Eden Prairie, MN).

Modern Classifieds / New For Sale List - EU, Vehicles, etc.
« on: June 21, 2010, 12:17 PM »
Although I'm going to miss a number of them, I've decided to put many of my prequel vehicles up for sale.  I'd like to hang onto them, but the bottom line is I don't have the space to display all of this anymore - and I'd rather they went to someone who could get more use out of them.  Plus, we could use the extra money right now, and that is more important.  Prices do not include shipping, and all items are loose and complete unless otherwise noted.  Payment via Paypal is preferred (as long as it's not a debit or credit card) and Money orders accepted.  Please PM me if you're interested in anything (you can find my feedback here).:

The Bullpen / Marvel Legends 2010
« on: June 7, 2010, 12:32 PM »
I've been in the process of condensing down and re-arranging the collection room, and recently worked on the Marvel/DC stuff, so I had to bump this thread up again.  I know we don't really see much in the way of Legends stuff anymore, aside from the occasional wave of 2 packs at TRU, but as I looked at each of these up close again when I was setting things up...it really was/is a nice line.  I've been one (of the few?) that's been collecting the Marvel Universe stuff, and although it has taken a big step up in quality in the last few waves (and Iron Man movie stuff), I have to say it still sort of pales in comparison to the nice run of Legends that we got.  I had to pack some of the "lesser" characters away due to space issues, but even the big guns and other team members look great.  There are still some I'd like to get to fill in spots (I wish Hawkeye wasn't so expensive on ebay most of the time), and I sort of hope we continue to see more of these two packs put out every so often.  After a rocky start, the Hasbro stuff has been fairly good recently too - at least from the ones I've seen and/or picked up.  Anyways, just had to bump this up in appreciation.  The 3 3/4" stuff sure is easier to display as far as space goes, but many of the Legends feel more like "collectibles" than toys - maybe a little bit better quality, at least in some cases.

Star Wars Universe / Rating the Star Wars Saga
« on: June 2, 2010, 10:42 AM »
I know we have a thread on here ranking the movies in order from favorite to least favorite, but I didn't see one for actually rating each movie individually.  I was wondering - on a scale of 1 to 10 - how you would rate each of the Star Wars movies?  Off the top of my head, I think I'd rate them like this:

Star Wars (A New Hope) - 10/10 (I often look at this as "what if it was a stand alone movie", just a fun movie to watch from start to finish)

The Empire Strikes Back - 10/10 (To me...and many...the best movie of the Saga.  No weak spots here to me, and a lot of really memorable characters and scenes.  The Battle of Hoth is still my favorite of the entire Saga.  The asteroid chase, Yoda/Lando/Boba, so much great)

Return of the Jedi - 9/10 (Probably higher than most, but it holds a special place for me as it is the first movie I saw in the theater, with my Dad, and was my favorite for a long time as a kid because of that)

The Phantom Menace - 6/10 (Problems are well documented, but I'll still watch at least part of it when it is on.  Still love the lightsaber battle, and the stuff with Obi-Wan and Qui Gon is all good too I think)

Attack of the Clones - 7/10 (This one has faded for me a bit since release.  When I first saw it, I absolute loved it.  Since then, there are parts of it - mainly the Anakin/Padme stuff in the middle - that I almost have to fast forward through.  I can't say I do that with any other part of the Saga really.  I do think the last half hour plus from when Anakin/Padme enter the arena to the end is good stuff.  I also like Obi-Wan's entire arc of this movie, the sort of "solving the mystery" stuff and the face offs with Jango.

Revenge of the Sith - 8.5/10 (Definitely my favorite of the prequels, and almost on par with the OT for me.  No many weak spots to speak of, aside from maybe Anakin's relatively "quick change" to the dark side.  Pretty strong movie otherwise for me.  I really only lower it another half point because I don't like it quite as much as ROTJ, which I gave a 9...but no real faults with this movie for me.

The Prequel Trilogy / Revenge of the Sith - 5th Anniversary
« on: May 21, 2010, 02:05 PM »
It has sort of been lost in all the publicity of Empire's 30th b-day this year, but it has also been five years this month since the release of the "final" movie in the Saga, Revenge of the Sith.  Although I'll always take the OT over the prequels, there is always something for me to like in each of the prequel movies - and this one is by far the strongest I think.  Not really much to complain about here for me personally (maybe Anakin's quick "change" to the dark side a bit), and this is a movie I never really tire of watching either.  Good stuff.
