Title: C4 Collecting Track
Post by: John J. Alvarez on November 25, 2006, 12:33 PM

Quote
I'm organizing the program for the Celebration IV collecting track. I'm very interested in hearing ideas for talks, panels, and activities for the C4 collecting program, especially new topics that haven't been covered before, interactive events, and suggestions that span the diversity of interests & demographics in Star Wars collecting.

Also, if you have feedback on things that worked well or could stand to improve from previous Celebration collecting events/talks, please let me know. Just shoot me an email with your suggestions. Thanks.

Gus posted this over on RS: http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=2267993 and he's looking for input from all collectors so here's your chance to have a say.

Don't come to the panels *just* for the coins, come to learn something new. :) Besides, the coins will be random give-aways, during random panels, at random times. You'll never know what you get at what panel.

Trust me, it's going to be tough. I saw the schedule (can't talk about it yet but Gus promises it'll be posted soon) and I don't even know how I'm going to see all I want, work the tattoo booth, walk around, and maybe catch a non-collector event or two. It's gonna be rough. LOL

All I know is I can't wait to track down some coins. BTW the other 8 coins should be posted soon too. They were supposed to be posted last week.

Can't wait to see all you guys!

Those are so freaking cool.  I can't even say which one/s I'd want if I only had the opportunity to get one, or a few.

I won't have time to attend all the panels to potentially put together a full set, heck I won't even be there Sunday or Monday, but if I see a panel that catches my attention, I may try to hit it.  If I pick up any medallions I'll let everyone know and if someone needs it/them to complete a set, we can talk about some sort of trade or something.

So the seller is one of the sponsors of the coins man that ain't cool wonder what the other sponsors think of this sort of thing.

But it was cool that he paid for the coin out of his own pocket, right? That sounds like a double standard to me. I don't fault him for it at all. Nobody put a gun to the two buyer's heads. Sorry to be blunt but I don't want this to turn into a debate whether people who paid out of thier own pockets have any right to sell what they paid for.

I don't think the sponsors should be selling these off... especially before the convention even starts.   How many "sets" have been sold so far?   That's X number of coins that won't be available to us fans that will be attending the collector panels.

I wouldnt have minded so much if they started the auction at a reasonable price. If it ended for the same amount thats fine i just think they should have been more collector friendly. I think my main problem was the jump in the buy it now price between the first and second auction.

Post by: John J. Alvarez on May 21, 2007, 09:46 PM
There's actually some back and forth on RS about this. Cj pulled the $2400 one. I really can't fault him. Yes, the BINs were aggressive but nobody forced people to buy. I agree he should have waited until *after* C4 but what's done is done. At least he was understanding enough to pull the final one and wait.

I still can't wait to get mine. :)

I'm really bummed that the collecting panel I wanted to see the most, on the Micro Collection, is right smack dab in the middle of the "What's new at Hasbro" Q & A presentation.  I can't miss the Hasbro gig, so unfortunately the Micro Machine one's gonna have to happen some other time.  I'd like to catch Gus' presentation on Unproduced Toys as well, and after seeing those spiffy coins, I may have to get my ass to a few more panels as well!

Two of the sponsors are Seattle collectors, so I got to see these last month at our monthly meeting. These are very hefty medallions, especially compared to the TAC plastic ones.

I want to hit as many of these panels as possible, but I think everyone else there does as well.  These things will probably be pretty packed.  ;D

Have any of the coins been given out yet. I have been watching ebay but i have not seen any pop up.

At least 7 of the 12 through 6pm today, Daniel.  I actually tried to go to one of the panels today (Duncan's at 5pm), but it was a complete cluster**** trying to get in there (sorry John).  The room holds 350 people, and I was about 100th in line to get in, but when the 4pm panel wrapped up, NO ONE LEFT!  Only about 75 people got into the next one from our line, since folks had resorted to simply "camping out" in that room for the rest of the day/convention.  Unfortunately, I think that means it's doubtful I'll be making any further efforts to get into one of these things the next couple days.  Way too demoralizing having Kellerman shut the doors almost right in my face, saying that the room was full (but then still letting in another 10 or so random folks in the ensuing minutes, right in front of all of us who had been left out.  Lots of folks cut into the line in front of me too, essentially costing me the medallion.

As for eBay, I'd be shocked if these things didn't start popping up all over it, as they're pure gold to some folks there.  Hopefully most everyone wants to keep them for themselves though, appreciating the great work these guys put into them.  They definitely look amazing, as do the European versions being handed out in London this summer...

I managed to hit a couple of the panels and got an Obi, R2, 3P0, Jawa, Tusken, and Vader coin.   I WISH I'd been able to get more, but between things I wanted to see, a double OPX shift on Saturday (Matt Wood was awesome!) and another shift on Sunday, and just things I just had to see- Robot Chicken, Clone Wars Behind the Scenes etc.., there was no way.
I had a great time and the only major downer was the Master Replicas Party... what a nightmare that was

What happened at the MR party?

I went to 1 panel, the 1st Bootleg panel & no coin was handed out. The line to other panels were long & at times I had no chance to make them. I never got a coin :-\

This was after what Matt mentioned about no one was leaving the panels, I had to meet up with Oscar at a panel & when it ended, they cleared the room. Before the panel ended, 2 people & myself witnessed a crew member leave the panel & talk to a fellow who did not attended this panel & sneaked him a coin. Both crew members were approached by the 1 witness & they denied it. What a load of BS!  >:(

What happened at the MR party?

Where to begin?   Matt Fox and I (I was his guest) wandered out of the convention center and heading for what looked like a gathering crowd.   The email from MR basically said there would be a double decker bus leaving at 7:15 for Jim Henson studios at 15 minute intervals, ending at 8:15.  Well... we're just waiting and waiting and nothing came.  We saw a red bus pull out with a bunch of people on it and eventually heard it had left with the celebreties and VIPs.  Then a small black shuttle with Phil Wise drove up and took the first 14 people and he confirmed we were in the right spot.    That was about 7:45ish and I had a few friends from DC get on it.   By the time the next bus showed up it was close to 8:45.  We got to the party in about 40 minutes and had some nice BBQ and chose not to pay $5 for raffle tickets or a key to open a chest to win an MR Falcon.   The gift bag was a total joke and only the members (not their guests) got one.   There was some pretty ok lightsaber combat routines, crappy white and red wine, diluted light beer, and sodas.   After our friends who DID try for the MR Falcon had their turn at the lock and failed, we headed out looking for a ride back.   Got in line up the block and waited.   And waited.  Finally a bus came and there was a surge from inside the studio so those of us in line didn't actually make it (me being now first in line).   Again.. no more buses... we're now past the 10:30 contract time for the buses and three of the black shuttles came but were ONLY going to the Omni.  By then the place had totally cleared out except for a few MR folks.   They spent some time on our behalf talking to on of the shuttle drivers (only one left there) and finally convinced him to drop us off back at the convention center.   He ended up dropping Matt and I off at the Holiday Inn so that was cool but by then it was like 12:30.   Complete waste of an evening IMHO.  Would have much rather gone to one of the Con hotels with some of the DCSWCC folks.   Talk about hindsight.....

No worries, as I agree... I drove there myself... but I must say... the party... a joke... really... the bag a waster... for such a high class outfit... and such an "exclusive" party... it was such a waste that I got there like 7:15 and left by 8:15...

Best feature... the bartender closest to the food... a California Hottie indeed.

I bought a Luke one on ebay, and i just found out that my girlfriend was being really sweet and bought me a coin as well. Sadly, it happens to be Luke. So I have a extra Luke. I will happily trade for any other coin (besides a Stormtrooper, i have that one). Please PM me. I much rather trade than put it back on ebay.
