Title: Pegwarmer of the Year Award
Post by: MisterPL on March 29, 2003, 12:19 PM
April's right around the corner, so I thought it might be a good time to get everyone's concensus on which figure was the biggest pegwarmer of the Saga line.

I just got back from my local Wal-Mart and it's pretty obvious which figure is in abundance around here. I counted 52 Taun We figures. Luminara Unduli was a distant runner-up with 25 figures with 24 Royal Guards a close third. There were a couple stray Endor Rebels (goateed, of course) as well as a trio of Destroyer Droids, but that was about it.

What really bugs me is that these pegs, 16 of them just for those top three characters, are considered precious real estate by Wal-Mart's toy buyer. If a product stagnates, it should be clearanced or sent back so new product can get to the pegs. Two of these figures are almost a year old for cryin' out loud!

I heard KB is having a huge Star Wars clearance sale soon to make way for new product (smart move... finally). TRU has bins filled with Yoda, Destroyer Droids, and Clone Trooper Pilots, which makes me wonder if one of them will be next year's top pegwarmer.

What about your area? What's still lingering like unwanted guests?

Not too many of your Pegwarmers out here in SoCal John.  Instead, we're honored with the overwhelming presence of Mr. Mace Windu and his hot little girlyfriend Zam Wessell at most of our Targets.  No totals for ya', but I'll be sure to count 'em up next time I'm at a store so you can have some official numbers!   ;)   8)

The reigning TRU "haven't I seen you before" champion is Pilot Padme in a landslide, often accompanied by her amigos from the Lott Dod/Watto/Ki-Adi Mundi wave(s)...

Getting most sick of them ALL.  Way overdue for some serious clearance sales around the country...   >:(

Biggest Peg-warmers in T-Town =

Jango Fett (Final Battle), Darth Vader (Bespin Duel), Plo Koon, Boba Fett (Kamino Escape), and those sorry Delux Jango's and those flipping things...

My TRU still has pegs full of Clone Troopers.
Other than that new shipments are finally filling all the once empty pegs around here.

Looking at the whole year, I'd say Zam Wessel-Bounty Hunter AND Zam Wessel from the preview assortment have been some of the worst pegwarmers going.  Odd, since not one, but BOTH 3-3/4" versions of a Bounty Hunter character haven't sold well.

I find it very interesting how different our different stores are... It is almost kreepy. I literally just got home frlom shopping, and I stopped by my local Toys R Us for the hell of it...... Wanna know what they had? About 15+ Padme battle arena and about 15+ C-3po with removable plates. They had one Jango and one Taun We. That was it folks, out of 8 Pegs.  There were some POTJ still sitting there too. All of them are beat to un-godly hell. All they had (and have had, for the past YEAR) is Tessk and Zutton.

At my wal-mart, as I have reported before, there hangs around 10 Palpatine figures. But at least they keep opening up new cases figs and putting them on top of them. But within a day, only the palps still sit there.

So to answer the main question, I don't think anyone REALLY knows which is the biggest peg warmer, cause it's different EVERYWHERE.  There are a few figs I couldn't tell you the last time I saw them in the store... Like the first Yoda- I never see him anymore, or basically the wave that came out in the middle of the summer- I hardly ever see those ones. I see april 23rd figs and the wav that came out in october. That is about it.

Which stores you hit around here will determine the pegwarmers found. The nearest TRU has about 20 figs on the pegs, I think maybe 18 of them are Pilot Jango. Targets seem to have tons of Bespin Luke, Vader and Geo Mace on the pegs, with countless Accessories sets. There are various other figs easily found but those seem to be the worst culprits.

For the Indianapolis area I will have to go with Jango (pilot) and Padme (Pilot) these two figures are everywhere.  >:(

My TRU has pegs full of Jango Pilot, Super Battle Droid, Senator Jar Jar and the Nikto Jedi.  There are also a ton of the Bespin Guards there as well

Target still has 20 pegs full (at full price) of the Bespin Luke Wave with Han along for the ride.  Chewie seemed to have sold well

Anyone saying the line is doing well is slightly delusional...there are some serious problems with our addiction

In the Boston area:

Target: Senator Jar seems to be the winner, along with Flipping Obi and the accessory packs

TRU: Padme pilot, Anakin Tatooine attack, Darth Maul with red stripes along with POTJ Bespin guard

Walmart: Suprisingly, Destroyer Droid, Yoda JC and Clonetrooper pilots. I guess Hasbro thought everyone would want multiples of the CT pilot, but unless you have more than one gunship the most you would need is 4 (which is stretching it, because regular CT manned the gunpods but some use the pilots that came with the pods)

So are we going to come to an agreement here as to who the winner is? I'd say the flipping guys are the winners...

Zam wins it here in Long Island.   I checked the HUGE TRU in Times Square last week and they had Watto, Lott Dodd, and a 3rd one on clearance for $1.90.   They also had pegs full of Zam, Clone pilots, and the Geonosians & Tuskens both with the "pets"... can't remember the name at the moment, nor care to look it up.  I did find one Endor rebel trooper without a beard, but I didn't let it warm the peg for too long.

Half of the peg warmers you guys are mentioning havn't even made  it to Ontario Canada. I'm soooo glad I'm going to  Pensylvania soon!

The warmer wnners here are:
Nikto
Capt. Typho
Battle droid
Dexter
and JarJar

Good luck in Pennsylvania, Bidder....I recently drove to FLA and back and found jack squat along the way.  Except for armies of Padme Pilots.   One Wally in FLA had OVER 50 PADMES!!!
I'd have to say the pegwarmer awards in T.Dot go to:

Zam Wessel
Mace Windu
Senator Jar Jar

Oh my, welcome to Canada.

Walmart has only either rebel soldier (beard) or Han Solo and not much of either.

Zellers (~Kmart, but Canadian) is bare for the most part.

TRU - pick whatever figure you'd like from the original 23 Saga figs.  I think I can still find at least one of everything and about a gazillion of Nikto, female Tusken, Saesee Tinn....

Or were you talking about POTJ where Sabe, Shmi and Mr. Removable pants can still be found at full retail?

I guess that will be a cold day in Canada.  ;D

Sidebar: What a difference a week makes.

I went back to the same Wal-Mart this afternoon and every single Taun We and Luminara Unduli figure was GONE. Not moved to the clearance aisle, VANISHED. Over 70 figures cleared away to make room for a case or two of new stuph, including Obi-Wan (Acklay Battle), Mace (Total Control), Dooku (Hangar Battle), Anakin (Secret Ceremony), and R2-D2 (Droid Factory).

Now if I can stumble across Padme, the Library Droids, and some Padawans, I'll be doing okay!

(It's about frickin' time, Wal-Mart!)

I wouldn't expect to find them anywhere outside dollar stores. Not even KB would touch these.

It's times like this I wish there were vending machines that could reconfigure action figures for five bucks and the required raw materials. "I'd like a Marmit Clone Trooper, please. Here's a bucket of Taun We figures." Recycling at its best!
Title: Re: Pegwarmer of the Year Award
Post by: Reconsgt on April 4, 2003, 03:02 PM
recycling would be great. My local store still have the some of the first 23 not to mention scores of battle droids and suoer BD, Han, .. I have only seen th e newer figs once and that was 2 beat up figs at a shopko.

And just to add my local KB has tons of the 25th 2 packs and even EP1 figs still out. They are a strange store . They have the jedistarfighter with Obi for 12.99 but want 22.99 for the regular version. Gunships for 49.99 anyone? ::)

On a totally unrelated note...plastic is made based off components recovered from Oil.  I was thinking today of a common War Protest chant "No Blood For Oil"...

Perhaps it should be: "No Blood For Oil Unless it Is For the Creation of Star Wars 3 3/4" Action Figures or their larger 12" Counterparts"

I also have often thought of the fact that a lot of product can be shipped right back to the factory and placed in ye olde extruder and made into something new...maybe I'll do that in my basement :P

Nope!  I am updating this, cause we have new pegwarmers for the 03' line.  So here are the pegwarmers here in NorCal:

1. Imperial Dignitary #1 & 2. - tons of them still, tons!!!

2. Animated Clone Wars Series - Asajj, Anakin, Mace, Obi are all down the drain, Wave 2 seemed to do so much better!

3. Re-Cared - Aayla Secura, Barriss Offee, Luke Skywalker (Throne Room), and Padme Amidal (Secret Ceremony)

4. Achk-Med Beq - tons of this bartender too!

That is all I can think of right now at the moment!

Oh wait!!

Clone Wars - Wave 1 - Anakin Skywalker and Yoda.  I have never seen so many ugly Skywalker's on pegs since Episode 1!
Title: Re: Pegwarmer of the Year Award
Post by: Brian on March 26, 2004, 11:11 AM
Its pretty much the same around here Mainland, the biggest pegwarmers are:

Dignitaries - both of them at Target, Wal-Mart, and TRU
Bail Organa - nice figure, but pegwarming big time at TRU and some Wal-Marts
R-3PO - another nice figure, but I have seen quite a few lately
Achk-Med Beq - I've never bought one, but if I want one I shouldn't have to worry...he's everywhere :).
repacked figures - not terrible, but I've seen quite a few of the younglings, Aayla, and Barriss, as well as a couple SC Anakins.  Nothing too bad though.
Animated Clone Wars - sold really well at first, starting to sit.  Only some of them though (Asaaj, Anakin, Obi, Dooku seem to be the worst around here).

Yes, I forgot to mention Animated - Dooku too!

Also, R-3PO and Ayy Vida, I see them everywhere.  Also, Ashla & Jempa and Yoda & Chian, since they are included in that Wave 15.

Did not know where to post this, so I will put it here, put damn this guy looks evil!

Hoth Rebel Soldier anyone?  This craptacular piece of plastic swarms most TRU's in my area.

As does Bail, the 1st Dignitary, and sadly R-3PO.

Wal-Mart isn't exactly devoid of TRD Luke or Hoth Han as well.

Two more craptacular figures (I don't care what anyone says about the Han...  He's pre-posed, has an action feature, and he still needs a resculpt as much as Endor Han) that sit stagnant on my local shelves.

Can I count Duros and Bespin Guards as pegwarmers of the decade though?  To hold on that long at TRU is something special.  Bespin Guards are even GOOD figures too.  :(
Title: Re: Pegwarmer of the Year Award
Post by: MisterPL on March 26, 2004, 04:20 PM
Zutton's got my nomination for Pegwarmer of the Decade, Jesse. My TRU has two pegs loaded with him. And it's a SIN to have army-builders just sit. Where are all those SA Clone Troopers or McQuarrie Stormies?

Wal-Mart has NOTHING-- still. Not even pegs.

Target has had Ack-Meh Blech for some time.

KMart has Saga Watto.

(And don't get me started on Kay-Bee...)
Title: Re: Pegwarmer of the Year Award
Post by: SilverZ on March 27, 2004, 03:28 PM
Yep, no need for new nominations for this year, since we still have Saga '02 around here vying for 2nd year running championship spots.

Kmart has Zam Wessel. When they finally sell I believe they will rename the SW peg the "Zam Wessel Memorial Peg". Lame.

Around here TRU is still the House of Watto. Double Lame.

Walmart #1-nothing, everything seems to disappear quickly...right now the Yavin Wave

Walmart#2-only thing there is 3 Arena Padmes which have been there since April before Clones opened

KMart #1-Clone war wave 2 figures

KMart #2-Luminara, Royal Guard, etc.

I just got to thinking about Achk Med-Beq , which has to be one of the most annoying pegwarmers around here at the moment.  My question is:

Does the figure get overlooked because it is, in fact, the actor that played Jar Jar Binks, thus making the figure just as lame as said CG lamety?

This occurred to me when I saw Med-Beq sitting on the TRU pegs, and just the sirght of poor Ahmed Best brought my hatred of Jar Jar to the surface. What's interesting is that Dannl Faytonni didn't suffer the same fate, and I think its partly because of the Anthony Daniels likeness that does just the opposite.

Random musing.

Post by: Jesse James on April 16, 2004, 11:37 PM
I'd say no...  Over-shipping to your area is more the result I think, actually, as Ach Med is nowhere to be found in Pittsburgh....  Thank God.

Now, in our area it's a TON of Hoth Wave...  Especially ****Drum Roll**** the all-time craptacular army builder known as the Hoth Rebel Soldier.  That figure sucks as bad (if not worse) than I predicted it would, and it just hangs on pegs...

You make that guy a neutrally posed, properly scaled/sculpted, and decently articulated army builder, and I guarantee he'd be selling faster.  Hell I'd be buying one or two every stop at TRU that I saw him.

R-3PO's not doing swift either, though he's moving gradually.  Some TRU's here are now down to just the Hoth Sooldier...

Luke moved great though, which I attribute a lot to the fact he was a good figure but also made good custom trooper fodder even for customizers.

That Hoth Soldier lingers like a fart in a car here though. :(

Jesse James, I have to agree with you.  At TRU, Bail Organa, Avy Vida, Imp. Dig #1, Hoth Rebel Solider (mini Buzz), R1-G4 and R3PO are HUGE PegWarmers!
Walmart has R3PO, Hoth Rebel Soilder, R1-G4.
Target, well here at least, I have to say ALL the animated figures minus the clone trooper and yoda.  Target is successful at keeping only new product on their shelf for the morning.

I wouldn't say he's a pegwarmer here, but he's around...  If you want me to get you one Lando, I can I think...  He's not that bad here though.

Here, it's R-3PO and Hoth Soldier...  Tack on Organa, 1st Dignitary...  That's what we have pegwarming mostly at TRU's.

The Tatooine and JP waves have remnants that hang around, mostly Bar2-D2 and R1 though if any.

Yavin Wave and SD wave have come and gone, but still show up...  Those are 2 waves that are moving, though I have seen Bossk hanging about a couple times now while the rest of his wave's gone.  Sure sign he's the first to warm pegs I think.  Surprising, given that Dengar's such a sucky character (good figure though), and Bossk you'd think would have some appeal to kids on some level, given he's a lizard guy and all.

Still, he seems to go eventually too.

Yavin Wave is all army builders and custom fodder.  It's doomed to be one of the tougher waves to come across I think, if you by chance pass on it when you want extras of them.

I'm sort of surprised at R1-G4 and Bar2 actually sitting at all, but I guess they aren't overly itneresting and R2's on his last (3rd?) leg as a figure...  He's really not got much left you can do with him, short of a new R2 w/tools and sensorscope version.

Anyway, get in touch with me (PM Me) Lando, and if you want I'll keep my eyes peeled for an R1 if you need one for cost.

No kidding!

Woodbury TRU still has at least 20 each of PotJ Bespin Guard and PotJ Duros.  They've been there for 4 years!  And they are still asking $5.99 for them!

Are they high?  I kept going in there expecting them to be fdown to $0.90, but everytime I went, they were $5.99 still.

Maybe not Pegwarmer of the Year, but definately deserve a lifetime achievement award of some sort...

Both of these figures are still useful, however.  For example I have 8 Bespin Security Guards, 7 of which I did head swaps on, 2 of them are African American using Elite Force heads.

The Duros, you can buy an extra and paint the jumpsuit red to make the other Duros that Ellors Madak is conversing with in the Cantina.

I don't even know how this figure made it to production.  It's about 1" too short, the face sculpt is awful, no useful arm articulation.

I think it's one of the top 10 worst figures ever.

Duros
Ketwol
Sabe (only a couple though)
Aurra Sing

Saga:
Senator Jar Jar
Orn Free Taa (name screwed up?)
Endor soldier (beard)
Tusken mama
a host of others, depending on store, but the above four stick out
Endor Accessory pack, still full price at $14.95

Well, feel free to come and get them then! :P

If they are so "useful" then why are they still around? :)

Seriously though, I purchased an extra Ellorrs Madak to customize Baniss Keeg waaaaaaaay back in 2001 when Target and Wal-Mart had enough sense to clear them out.  I also purchased 3 more Bespin Guards to customize (Black, White, Alien) way back in 2001 too when they went on clearance.

I refuse to buy 4 yr old figures for custom fodder, especially when they are still $6!  If TRU would only mark them down to $2, I'd gladly add two more Bespin Guards to my Army, along with picking up a few Duro for Jedi/Alie customs.  I'm just not gonna pay $6 per figure though...

Jeff

My point is just that I've bought about 13 of the Duros and Bespin Guard combined; as opposed to the Jango Pilot pegwarmer which is totally useless for customizing.

You need a lot of Bespin Guards for dioramas.  And the head on the bespin guard is great for Naboo Security, Naboo Royal Guard, Endor Rebel soldiers, and rebel fleet trooper customs.

The new Hoth Rebel Soldier seems to be hanging for quite some time too

I don't even know how this figure made it to production.  It's about 1" too short, the face sculpt is awful, no useful arm articulation.

I think it's one of the top 10 worst figures ever.

I agree Dressel that figure SUCKS.  It's definitely up there in the 10 worst list of all time Star Wars figures.  What a let-down that piece of junk was.

The worst pegwarmers in my neck of the woods are:

- Hoth Trooper
- Ak Med Beq
- Kren Blista Vista (sp?)

And the graveyards at TRU still have the first wave of AOTC figures and preview Zam's/Jango's.  Pukeola. :-X

Short of a miracle "buy-back fairy" coming and taking away these figures, my local WM's are now PLAGUED with repack Jedi Knights (Barriss, and Alya Secura) as well as Yoda/Youngling and Youngling 2-pack figures...  The repack waves hit Wal-Mart in the recent days here, and they hit them HARD.  Peg after peg of these multiply repacked 2003 figures have leaked out once more. :(

I found sme Yavin wave stragglers buried amongst them, but not a single Antilles.  I'm glad to see he sold as well as he has...  Dodonna and TIE Pilot were most "abundant", but there weren't many, and one Dutch remained.

Beyond that, not much...  A Skiff Lando was lying about too,  which that figure's great.  It won't last I don't believe.

Endor wave has hit here I heard, and is gone subsequently.  Blah :(

I hope these craptacular repacks are bought up...  Kids snagged them en masse the first time, I hope that happens again, but somehow I'm thinking it won't go that way and these ones are here to sit a while. :(

Hoth Trooper though, to me, is still the undisputed king of Pegwarmers now...  He plagues every TRU here, and in large #'s.  He's terrible as a figure so that's not boding well for him moving.  Had he at least been semi-decent I'd be picking him up here and there for custom work...  At least some kitbashing, but he's not even got a single piece worth reusing.  Even the head's terrible looking.

Fortunately, TRU's are ordering around him somehow...  Later waves have come and gone while he and R-3PO sit, and sit, and sit...  3PO I sort of understand, because for what you get, you do feel jipped.  The Trooper is just raw crap though...  The kinda figure you grow to despise.

TRU's a bit better about spreadingn orders out over a FEW waves at least.  The Hoth wave and Bail Organa were all around X-Mas time so they're lingering yet, but those others are thinner and they come and go...  I just hope they keep it up and don't back off ordering ANYTHING for a time.

If I can get the SAGA Hoth Trooper for $1-2 on clearance, I'll buy a handful and paint blaster wounds on his face and chest and litter the floor of my Hoth diorama with them.

It's not good for anything else.

Even the vintage 1980 Hoth Trooper is better than this thing.

It's kinda funny how that's actually just another brand of "Jar Jar" when you get right down to it.

Ironically, Ach Med Beq is non-existant here...  The entire outlander wave's really sparse (though it hit full force when it was new).

I'd  like another Obi and Elan, but to no avail...  Ach I could do without though, and hpefully he won't ship again.  Terrible figure idea IMO.

I think the figure didn't turn out as swift as it oculd've itself anyway...  Nice headswap idea, but bad/awkward posed sculpt.  Made the articulation useless.  :(

Here it's that damnable Hoth Trooper, and as of yesterday the Ashla/Jempa, Yoda/Youngling, and Barris/Aylya figures are now warming pegs HUGE time at at least a couple local Wal-Mart stores.  Thanks for the repacks Hasbro.  :(

The newest Saga pegwarmer around here seems to be Gen. Dodonna.  This guy is keeping the pegs at Target nice and toasty, and has made appearances at Wal-Mart and TRU as well.  Another figure that I see quite a bit is the repacked Hoth Han.  I used to worry that I'd miss this figure (with the 2003 shipping problems), but now I see him about everywhere too.  On my last trip to our closest Target, they had 13 Star Wars figures.  9 General Dodonnas, 3 Hoth Hans, and 1 SC Anakin.  I don't see that many Dodonnas selling anytime soon :).  I used to look forward to new Saga stuff showing up, but now I'd wish they get off the pegs just to see OTC figures sitting there.  I've found all the "new" OTC figs (still a few repacks to get), but if I'm going to go to the Star Wars aisle and come away empty handed, I'd sooner look at those black and silver beauties instead :P.  That said, we never did see the Endor wave around here either (thanks Jeff!)...here's hoping the OTC repacked General Lando is easier to find.

I agree, the biggest Pegwarmers here are Dodanna and Commtech Han (In all forms).

In Pittsburgh, the reigning champ is STILL the Hoth Rebel Sooldier.  This guy's dominating pegs at Wal-Mart stores, a few Targets, and TRU's he's at times the only figure it seems.

NOT good.

Had this figure been a GOOD figure, would he be sitting?  I somehow doubt it.  If he'd had a neutral pose, incredible arm articulation, a proper height, and a nice sculpt, he'd have been one of the hottest figures for army builders in '03/'04 I believe.  He might've even required repacking to satiate demand.

Throw a working holster w/removable to-scale RFT gun, and a removable hat and you'd have a figure you couldn't have kept on the pegs IMO.  SA would've made him so hotly demanded it'd have taken army builder sets to make people happy I think.

In the same vein, some Wal-Marts in my neck show signs of the Yavin wave backing up, but I think you'll see them move eventually.  Antilles seems to back up then trickle off slowly.  "Dutch" and TIE Pilot never last.  Dodonna's always left last.

I see the Hoth Soldier everywhere though, save for a few Target stores who had been emptied prior to OTC shipping.

It's really terrible.

Now, WM has pegwarmers exclusive to themselves...  The Younglings/Yoda E2 repacks, and the female Jedi repacks (Aayla Secura and Barris).  They are EVERYWHERE at Wal-Mart.  I honestly can't think f a Wal-Mart that desn't have at least one of those figures, and most of them have entire pegs full of them.  One WM in particular near me has the normal peg hooks filled with them, and then n an Endcap they have a TON of stuff from the end of Saga like Hoth, Yavin, Star Destroyer, and Jabba's Palace waves.

Endor was there, I guess, but sold out.  The rest are just hanging around...  They're stripped down, and there's less every time I go, but it's an ENTIRE endcap, so it's slow dwindling at that store, and there's still those repack Jedi and Younglings in the regular area just sitting on 10 pegs or so full.

Up North (eh) we've seen some subtle shifts.  You can still find Jar Jar, en masse, in too many locations.  One of the benefits of getting so few figures is that the peg warmers are not always what you expect.

Shmi and Ketwol still can be found.

Dodonna, Antilles and tie pilot can be found fairly easily, though I have no idea why the last one still sits.

Several stores up here received the same cases of US cards: Snowtrooper, Anakin, Hoth Han brown coat, some crappy Obi.  And you can find Lando Skiff and new Bossk pretty easily too.

Sadly, that's enough to clog up the pegs and prevent wide distribution of OTC stuff :-\  Retailers up here, perhaps like anywhere, just don't seem to pay attention or even remotely get it.  Walmart puts out a case of OTC Dagobah wave and it's sold within two days, even with a card bender on the loose >:(  Superstore puts out single cases of same wave - same result, gone in days.  TRU and Zellers probably ordered the OTC stuff, but got hosed by Hasbro Canada which seems to have shipped US dregs cases that were unloaded by their US counterparts, presumably so they could put out the OTC stuff.

Possibly the biggest pegwarmer up here right now is Vader's OTC Tie.  Only TRU is carrying it (exclusive?) but each store has a dozen that seem only to be collecting dust.  And TRU is not known for clearancing stuff, only for looking at what they have too much of and thinking oh, look, those didn't sell, star wars is a dead issue.  The contrary thought at TRU seems to be oh look, those are selling, let's order 1000 ::)

It seems that everywhere I go, they have armies of Dutch and Dodonna warming the pegs.  To my amazement, I still see plenty of Ack-Med Beq.  >:(

All I see are Acks, which I would only buy if they were $2 each. The Imp Dignitaries are really huge peg warmers as well as Hoth Hans.

Yup, they reshipped that one bigtime.  That's a Wal-Mart exclusive practically.
