Title: Tarkin
Post by: Scott on May 30, 2003, 02:37 PM
The latest Homing Beacon also features Tarkin in the corner (As did the last one).  I read somewhere that Chewie was featured in 2 Homing Beacon Corners before he was announced as coming back for Episode III...

I think our man may not be too far behind and something I have been wanting to see forever...yes sir I will build you a Death Star

I think I have the perfect actor for Tarkin....

Jason Isaacs

Peter Cushing

And personality-wise, I think he's perfect for the role.

So, do you think Tarkin will be in the film but just have that one line.  Or do you think they will actually have him as sort of a main character?  Or have in the film at all?  I hope he is in it someway.

Nicklab, that is a perfect candidate for Tarkin!  He looks just like the original actor!  Now lets see if GL actually hires him for the position.

Hmmm...

I wonder if Tarkin will show in E3, and maybe have Chewie with him?  His slave perhaps?  Kill 2 cameos with one stone, and Tarkin's appearance is the only one I consider "needed" from a classic trilogy character...

But Chewie there as his slave...  Eh, that I'd not mind.

Tarkin is important in the respect of the rise of the Empire.  He was one of the chief political figures, and was picked expressly for the Death Star.  It leads one to believe with the political direction much of the Prequel Trilogy has taken, that Tarkin might be an important character to be explored in EPISODE III.

theforce.net had this blurb today :-*

Fans for some time have continued to speculate on whether or not Tarkin would appear in Episode III. The Grand Moff would have to be a younger version and bear a striking resemblance to the veteran actor - considering the powerful performance that Peter Cushing gave in the original Star Wars.
Anyhow, here's what I know: he is in Episode III. I'm not sure who's playing him and how large the role is - but who cares - I can tell you he's in 100% for sure.

That's good news, and I hope he has a VERY powerful role.  He desserves it...  Cushing deserves it as a sort of homage to him.  He was such a superb actor.  Second only (And not even in my personal opinion, but that of the public I think) to Sir Alec Guiness.

Tarkin's character needs to really be someone of power and intellect though.  Not a yutz like some of the villains, but someone who's equally as vicious and evil as the Sith Lords, and maybe even knows what's going on somewhat.

He certainly seemed to know much about Vader's past in ANH, and was ok with how things turned out obviously, so I cannot wait, and I have big hopes for this guy and his eventual figure.

Nicklab's idea for the actor is good too...  British, evil looking, definitely a resemblance to Cushing, and is already known to be a good actor.  Can't ask for much more.

The "Buffy" guy Spike doesn't strike me as quite as nice a choice.   :-\

Wow, that's amazing!  Got a story to go with that picture Scott?  Is that the real actor who'll be reprising this role, or is that some computer generated picture showing what he would've looked like at a younger age in Ep. 3?  What's the deal, eh?  Should I be excited here, or just saying "that's a cool trick"?

 ???

Well, this just leaked over at theforce.net here is their story

Quote
A unknown insider known only as Timberwolf was working in set construction for Episode III - employed up until recently by JAK films. Now that the production company has left after working on SW3 for several months, they've given us a single glimpse of a character in the new film. The story goes that they obtained photographs using someone else's camera and swapped the memory cards over to theirs. They've been sitting on this for several months after covertly taking this shot in the Creature Shop when nobody was around some morning very early on. According to the insider, the picture of this character was situated on a wall just inside the entrance.

That is a great picture.  Always nice to see another OT character make an appearance to bridge these movies together...and one that makes "sense" to show up as well.  The resemblance is pretty good I think...can't wait for 2005 :).

OK...the guy supposedly is Christopher Eccleston

Based on a few posts over at theforce.net forums

Sure looks like him

I don't know about these being fakes.  You always get people saying stuff is fake, etc.  Which this might be but I doubt it.  If this holds up Tarkin sure wasn't good looking fellow back then.   No wonder he went bad :)

What's the deal with you and Tarkin (if you don't mind me asking), is it a domination thing?

Seems like the opposite of what flips our switch when we see Slave Leia... ;)
Title: Re: Tarkin
Post by: Ginger girl on December 2, 2003, 06:59 PM
LOL.  You just like Leia in the metal bikini...hehe.  Tarkin's just dead sexy!  ;D Don't worry, Lando and Han are also fine specimen....hehe

*In seriousness, I think Han's the cutest...and then Hayden Christensen* ;)
Title: Re: Tarkin
Post by: Mister Skeezler on December 3, 2003, 10:49 AM
Yeah, Han's the man.  8)

Lando is fun for the cheez factor. Plus, he expands Han's character by giving him a seedy history, something I always liked about those guys. The fact that they're basically good guys—but rough around the edges—is what makes Han and Lando cool.

Also, who doesn't like Leia in the metal bikini? ;)
Title: Re: Tarkin
Post by: Ginger girl on December 3, 2003, 08:22 PM
Yes...han and lando are awesome.  There's nothing wrong with a scoundrel if he's basically good.  Scoundrels can be more fun anyway.  Nobody likes a goody goody.  And to answer your question....girls generally don't like Leia in her metal bikini.  Leia's awesome and I so wanna be her...but she's much cooler when she's not all vulnerable and chained up.  Now back to the topic of the site....what girls wouldn't wanna make out with Tarkin (lol)?  He's powerful and looks good in his green suit.  Prrrah!

Tarkin and Vader conspired to take out the Emperor. If so, do you think it could be done? I read this off of Tarkins character card from the cgc from the late '90's.

i dont know if its legit or not, ive had this pic for awhile now.  i think its looks more like the OT tarkin than that other pic posted tho.  what do you think?
Title: Re: Tarkin
Post by: Vator on July 9, 2004, 10:40 AM
Well, I think they look about the same. I will say that it appears that this Tarkins uniform has epuilets, which, is suprising consider that we never seen them onscreen for an Imperial.
Could lend to the fact that the Imperial Uniforms in Episode III are a little more Earth like, and evolve into the more clean cut uniforms of the OT. Actually, nevermind, I'm rambling about uniforms again...

I watched half of ANH again last night with the audio commentary on

One thing GL points out in the Death Star Officer Discussion scene that I thought was interesting.  He points out how demeaning to Vader it is that he's basically the second most powerful being in the galaxy and yet he's on an even level with these officers like Tarkin and Motti.  He hints that part of this is explained in Episode III.

I never really thought of how its demeaning to Vader more that Tarkin was always there in the Empire and therefore had Seniority.  It sort of says that the Emperor doesn't really have a use for Anakin anymore now that the Empire has wiped out the Jedi

Interesting point Scott...

I can see it, however I see Vader/Tarkin as being buddy/buddy almost...  Tarkin's line of "old friend" to Vader implies some history there that I kinda dig about the two of them.  It implies a powerful presence to Tarkin in my view...  One of the reasons I find the character one of the most intriguing of the entire Star Wars universe.

He's powerful, but not as powerful as a Jedi/Sith...  He's merely powerful through natural ability/intellect.  That's kinda what Zahn threw at us with Thrawn...  A powerful character through intellect, experience, and self-confidence.  Your average "man" who excels...  A Patton, Rommel, Lee, or Alexander, or Caeser of his time...

I always dig that in those characters.

Tarkin's almost more evil than Vader when you think about it...  At least Vader had an excuse.  Tarkin was just a natural born dick head.  Gotta respect that. :)
Title: Re: Tarkin
Post by: CHEWIE on December 21, 2004, 09:35 PM
Yeah, Tarkin was a natural dick head.

Kind of wish he had survived the first Death Star.  I always thought that Peter Cushing and Alec Guiness (sp?) had the best roles in ANH.  Both old men bit the dust aboard that moon sized ship.
