It depends on the group as to whether re-enactments are fun or not really...

Like for me, the F&I stuff was great because our group's a light highland regiment (very small participation though), so our dress-code's loose and our equipment list is varied...  For instance, I carried a pistol and my Irish Broadsword most of the time as opposed to a rifle...  My kilt didn't match anyone else's...  My shirt was handmade, and I didn't have a jacket till I was nearing the end of my time in the group (I haven't participated in 2 years).

For the Civil War, my group was terribly strict though (though large), and were anal if you wore something even slightly off what they considered "official".  They could be real dicks about it actually.  I wanted to wear a brimmed hat, something non-military, because of the sun and they insisted on the bummer which I liked aesthetically and in cooler temps but not at Gettysburg in July, ya know?  They insisited though...

The F&I group I participated with were very casual, but OTHER groups hated us.  Usually the French and Indian groups didn't mind us, but local British units or actual Blackwatch units despised us and said we weren't authentic.  We simply weren't authentic to THEIR regiment, and they seemed almost offended to be told that there were light highland regiments that were considered sort of "special forces" groups.

Some people take this **** too seriously would be the point, and they can ruin the fun.

I know some WW2 re-enactors who take a nutty on the slightest thing...  I know some guys in the SCA who look down on anyone who doesn't have an authentically woven piece of clothing, or who have purchased armor instead of hand-made stuff.

As with anything, some jagoffs can screw up the fun, but in my F&I experiences it was really not bad at all.  most people enjoyed the "colorful" look to our group...  Very hap-hazard and a variety of weapons.  Even a small cannon was part of our gear.   ;D

I thought the secondary messages of banging some 21 year oold who got her tubes tied, girls cheating with this fellow, carrying a pistol to intimidate people at clubs, and otoher nonsense were more "silly" than the lyrics about drinking.

By the way, I can understand it because ***In Best Chapelle Voice***

"I'm from the streets bitch!"

hahaha...  I love Chapelle's Show...  There's a line for everything from it.   ;D

I dunno who has White Castle's anymore...  :(  All I know is Pittsburgh doesn't.

We got a Steak & Shake though, and I have to say it's not bad eatin'...  Too bad it's on the other side of the city, and gets as busy as any goood restaurant would.

So what are White Castle places anyway?  I know the Beastie Boys sing about them. :)

I'd actually like a NEW ARC trooper made...  Use the SA body, new head/forearms...  Add the removable pauldron, working holster (for the Sergeant) and on the blue one give him the basic rifle...

Could be a great couple figures.

Of course...  I'd just like ONE red ARC from the CW lines.

It's ok for a club song, but I'd recommend not trying to read too much into the lyrics of music like this.  It's often just as shallow as J-Klown (Or whatever TF his name is) has right here.

Beats good, that's all that matters if you're out at clubs dancing.

The photo's classic though, BTW.  Nice to see he got all cleaned up.   :P

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Prequel figures ARE coming!
« on: April 18, 2004, 04:59 PM »
I'd actually like to start seeing some prequal resculpts come out...  Namely, main characters with decently articulated, neutral posed versions.

A nice Anakin with a real and cyborg (interchangeable) arm that sports articulation enough to hold a saber with two hands, and no goofy face...  That's high on my list.

Obi-Wan from E2's yet to have a really great version out that's just a vanilla Obi with good poseability.  The Outlander's only one so far, and he's got a hilt molded to his skirt piece and lacking arm articulation...

Dooku I could handle seeing a new, better articulated version.  Even if it's using the Tyrannus figure from '03, just with better arms.

I could see lots of figures redone though from the prequals...  Hell, I'd even like new Obi and Qui-Gon from E1 who are decently articulated and actually LOOK like Ewan and Liam.  Oh well...  :(

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Pegwarmer of the Year Award
« on: April 18, 2004, 04:49 PM »
I wouldn't say he's a pegwarmer here, but he's around...  If you want me to get you one Lando, I can I think...  He's not that bad here though.

Here, it's R-3PO and Hoth Soldier...  Tack on Organa, 1st Dignitary...  That's what we have pegwarming mostly at TRU's.

The Tatooine and JP waves have remnants that hang around, mostly Bar2-D2 and R1 though if any.

Yavin Wave and SD wave have come and gone, but still show up...  Those are 2 waves that are moving, though I have seen Bossk hanging about a couple times now while the rest of his wave's gone.  Sure sign he's the first to warm pegs I think.  Surprising, given that Dengar's such a sucky character (good figure though), and Bossk you'd think would have some appeal to kids on some level, given he's a lizard guy and all.

Still, he seems to go eventually too.

Yavin Wave is all army builders and custom fodder.  It's doomed to be one of the tougher waves to come across I think, if you by chance pass on it when you want extras of them.

I'm sort of surprised at R1-G4 and Bar2 actually sitting at all, but I guess they aren't overly itneresting and R2's on his last (3rd?) leg as a figure...  He's really not got much left you can do with him, short of a new R2 w/tools and sensorscope version.

Anyway, get in touch with me (PM Me) Lando, and if you want I'll keep my eyes peeled for an R1 if you need one for cost.

I agree with others who think the set could've included Ephant and sold like mad...

I like Lando's idea of a kitbashed Ishi Tibb too.  There's a figure people would probably think was new they haven't seen it in so long.

Ephant takes the place of any large accessory, then the Tibb, and kitbash the Skiff Guards into Vintage Barada, Vintage Nikto, and just leave Klaatu as is (or even repaint him for a fan-fic or EU type character, who cares) and there you have a NICE appealing "fodder" set for Jabba's Palace or the skiffs.

A new head would be NICE for one or two of the figures...  Just a nice "hey, yeah, we'll give you something new to buy this" as well, but not entirely  necessary.  The figures may not be 100% accurate but they'd be better than the crap we ARE getting.

If they were going to insist on a Han then, I say skip Klaatu Skiff and simply do a BETTER Han...  Use the fold-out diorama Han's head (at least it had the right look) and even the torso...  Attach it to the legs they have in the image.  It'd be better than what we're getting.

I like the idea of the detonators too, some forcepikes and pistols...  Voila.

As it stands, this is a 100% pass on this set.  The Han's too much of a joke to bite.  Even clearanced this is a tough sell to me.   :-\

I'd say no...  Over-shipping to your area is more the result I think, actually, as Ach Med is nowhere to be found in Pittsburgh....  Thank God.

Now, in our area it's a TON of Hoth Wave...  Especially ****Drum Roll**** the all-time craptacular army builder known as the Hoth Rebel Soldier.  That figure sucks as bad (if not worse) than I predicted it would, and it just hangs on pegs...

You make that guy a neutrally posed, properly scaled/sculpted, and decently articulated army builder, and I guarantee he'd be selling faster.  Hell I'd be buying one or two every stop at TRU that I saw him.

R-3PO's not doing swift either, though he's moving gradually.  Some TRU's here are now down to just the Hoth Sooldier...

Luke moved great though, which I attribute a lot to the fact he was a good figure but also made good custom trooper fodder even for customizers.

That Hoth Soldier lingers like a fart in a car here though. :(

The Wookiee Arcade / Re: Which Multi-player SW game should I get?
« on: April 16, 2004, 11:31 PM »
Yeah, that seems like a good idea, but dont' discount X-Wing: Alliance too, if just for the single player experience Brad.

I also recommend Jedi Knight, Mysteries of the Sith, Jedi Outcast, and Jedi Academy (And Dark Forces too, if your PC can still play it).

Do them in order (Dark Forces would be first), so as to see the true storyline for Kyle, and DEFINITELY download custom levels made for Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith...  I can give you links to some and they 99% of the time have a readme file to explain how to install them (they're really simple to install manually though).

I've played custom levels on Jedi Knight and MOTS that blew away the Lucasarts levels, and Jedi Knight's still regarded as one of the most "Star Wars" games ever.

Actually, if your'e gonna play X-Wing: Alliance, I suggest getting the Win 95 versions of X-Wing (and it's expansion packs) as well as TIE Fighter and its expansions.

The series, played in order, is dated looking (like the Dark Forces series), but it's awesome...  Has a 100% Star Wars feel to it from start to finish.

BTW:

There's no multi-player for some of those...  X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Dark Forces specifically are all single player games.  X-Wing: Alliance is MP though and considered quite good.  I say skip X-Wing Vs. TIE Fighter though...  XW: Alliance was meant more as a fix to the flaws of XvT.

Hmmm, yeah, sorry...   :-\  I believe it was MisterPL I first saw point out that it wasn't right?  I forget now...  I think running some hot water over his dome may let you just pop the piece out...  May leave a hole in his noggin' though, that I'm not sure abut as I've never popped one of these figures apart.

Thanks for the comments guys...  Hopefully Bar2-D2 will be up soon as well for review and quiet moments of reflection.  Or all out yelling and screaming...  Whatever.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: 250 years of French & Indian action!
« on: April 15, 2004, 03:54 PM »
The French are regarded as some of the fiercest combatants in history actually.  They supplied the budding United States with Naval blockades and infantry in support against the British.

The French Resistance fighters of WW2 were regarded with fear among the German occupants of France due to the (at times) ruthless means with which they handled their opponents.

The French soldiers of World War I also were held in high regard defending their country.

Too often their contribution in WW2 is overlooked, as they actually did a lot of fighting in Europe and N. Africa, as did many other overrun countries (Poland, etc.) after being harbored in England.

In the F&I war, the French were regarded as nearly as "savage" as the Indians, as French Colonials and fur traders were some of the first whites to employ the "ungentlemanly" (though intelligent) combat tactics the Indians used.  They would perform hit & fade missions befre the tactic even had a name.

To me, there's no really good MP games period.  :)  Just not smething I'm fond of, but Star Wars in general isn't great for MP...

I'd say the Jedi Knight series is considered good, as is/was X-Wing: Alliance, but overall Brad I'd suggest waiting for Battlefront if you REALLY want a MP game set in STar Wars.  That will be practically devoted to MP, and will in all likelihood mimic Battlefield 1942 exactly.  Which is considered one of the greatest MP games of all time, by those who like MP.

Again, I don't personally like it, and t me games aren't fun without story.  Too much crap to deal with in MP unless you're playing with friends.  Then it can be fun. :)  That's one of the truly nice things about an X-Bx and X-Box live and all...  Beyond that, the system just wasn't high on my "to own" list.

Wait for Battlefront is my suggestion right now though, or try Alliance...  Alliance is a whole other game genre, but it's a fun one with a GREAT Singleplayer game too.  It's the best SW game (to me) overall.
