Modern Trading / Re: Looking for these POTJ figures
« on: July 7, 2009, 10:49 PM »
I have to look, but I am pretty sure I have a lot of these. Interested in your Orange carded stuff. IM me and I'll give you my email. I think we might have a lot of stuff we both want. You'll have to dig, but you should try and find my last update for the figures I have. We'll talk and I'll send you a more precise and updated list soon...

Glad you all can appreciate my Chewbacca passion.

Good to hear from one of the Gods and old school friends Matt. Thanks for the kind words and things have been busy and challenging, but good enough and getting better. Hope all is well with you as well and keep up the incredibly inspiring work here!

Fan Art / Another chalkboard drawing (not Star Wars...)
« on: December 17, 2008, 08:42 PM »
I did the Iron Man at one school and this Batman at my other school for my students. They are always hard to erase and I would say they take an average of 4-6 hours until they meet my approval. I haven't decided what my next endeavor will be. I am thinking that it may be a Chewbacca...

Fan Art / A quick sketch...
« on: December 12, 2008, 12:18 AM »
I give my elementary art students about 7-10 minutes each class for sketch time. I decided to sketch while they were recently and did a fairly decent Star Wars thing. I need to work on my 'Obi-Wan' likeness, but I am happy with it considering I did it in about 20 minutes. I do not generally draw Star Wars stuff and do not know why. I guess this may be something that inspires a more intensive and hyper-detailed Star Wars illustration. Just thought I'd share this rare Star Wars related art.

I'm in Firestone - just east of I-25 and Longmont. Born and raised in Boulder and I teach in Loveland. My principal has been very accommodating and allows me to use these cases at school to show off all my collectible stuff and the kiddos eat it up. I currently have my massive comic book and sports collectibles and Mickey Mouse collection displayed there. I will take some photos and post them somewhere soon...

Fan Art / Re: A wedding gift.

They are generally pretty ornate, but I am one of those artists that always bites off more than I can chew because I learn a lot more and evolve by challenging myself and doing insanely intricate and hyper-detailed art. The drawing is almost effortless, it's the inking that kills me. Using a brush is my favorite, but it is sometimes quite tedious and if I do not have that steady hand, I lose it. The great thing about doing something like this is I get to a point where I feel like I am accomplishing the impossible and pushing my ability to to limit and that eventually turns to the impossible becoming fluid and instinctual. It also is important for me to feel pride in what I do and to own it fully and unless it meets my perfectionist mind-set, it won't ever be shown to another person's eye. That is why I never really get much done because I'm always trying to perfect whatever I am working on.

I have been working on a comic book/graphic novel for 10 years and every drawing I do for every panel is redrawn a minimum of 4 times. I do a gestural sketch to capture the action of the figure and then start going over it with tracing after tracing until it is literally perfect. I wish I had lower standards and could just live with the bare minimum, but I have to be proud of what I do and own it.

Anyway, thanks and I will try and post some of my recent comic panel sketches to try and show my insane process...

Here is a chalkboard drawing I did for my art students that I am okay with because its chalk.

I have never come across one. I would be in a straight jacket if I collected everything Chewie. I used to have Star Wars Underoos with the classic ANH Chewie and Han shooting out off the boarding deck before they escape Tatooine. So I do not have the Chewie Mighty Mug and the less I think about it the less I covet it. Ignorance is bliss...

Fan Art / A wedding gift.
« on: December 5, 2008, 03:32 AM »
This isn't Star Wars related, but this is something I am proud of and have been working on for almost a year. It is a Ketubah - A Holy Jewish wedding document. I received the amazing, 24" x 32" paper with the Hebrew calligraphy and just began mapping out a design in light pencil. The flowers and shell were chosen as things my brother and his wife wanted on the document and the rest I just drew. The finish is most ink and brush with some Rapidograph for the really crazy details. I am almost done with the inking and then I am going to add color by brush as well.

And finally my most modern. Haven't done a lot lately. I do have a pretty cool Jedi Mickey Mouse collection, but it is not yet photographed.

We have traded and I am in awe of your collection. You have several Chewies I am crying about right now. Maybe I'll get off my butt and take photos of all my errors and majorly cool variations and we'll cry together. I think I traded you the red visor Clone Trooper, but I could be wrong. Thank you!
