Hmmm...
No dedicated thread yet for these guys, so I may as well start one with this nugget:
Seems like there may be pictures of Felitpern Trevagg and Dannikk Jericho in the latest issue of SW Insider. Anyone got this issue yet to confirm?
Jeff
-
Jeff, there are indeed shots of Gotal and Dannik...
Both are INCREDIBLE figures. I mean absolutely brilliant sculpts. It appears that the tentacle things are on Dannik's face however, so I'm hoping they're removable as they were not showing in the Cantina, and that it's a "feature" is all.
Dannik's got ball/socket knees, looks like anyway, a holster for a gun, and his bong's on his belt also and has a hose to the mouthpiece. Looks like wrists as well are articulated.
Very cool, without a doubt.
The Gotal also is cool, but a bit more "plain" IMO. His articulation looks superior however, as I see cut elbows/biceps and wrist joints. Can't tell on the knees as he has kneepads of some sort, but there's a cut on his RIGHT knee that indicates hinged knees to me. Not sure however. He's holding a drink and a bespin Guard/Elan pistol painted up all nice and black with a silver barrel. I see no holster however, though he could have a back holster on his belt.
There's also pics of the littel Playschook figures, the next animated CW wave, and old Pablo Jill/Yarua pictures.
-
I think that the "tentacles" are smoke. I'm serious.
-
Isn't Dannik a soul sucker or something. I remember in an EU story (Tales from the Cantina me thinks) that he had tentacles come out of his nose or something to suck the life out of victims.
-
Looks like GH got some pix up of it:
Gotal/Dannik (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=3407&zoneid=2)
They look very nice. Just wish Hasbro would put that kind of effort into the Cantina sets! ::) As for Danniks tongue things, I'd go with the EU idea myself, and suggest they're the life sucking appendages from that. Hopefully they're removable though. If not, I'll make them removable! >:(
Can someone refresh my memory, but did that ridiculous POTJ Jar Jar with the 3 foot tongue, have a removable tongue? I seem to recall that it did, though I don't have mine nearby to verify it.
Did they not show the 3rd cantina alien in the Insider though? Can't even recall who that was now.
-
Myo's the 3rd I believe, and he's mentioned in the article.
Hell I'd have scanned images if that was cool. Ballsy of GH.com, but more power to them. I know Insider's touchy about that junk though, or have been in the past definitely.
Myo's NOT pictured in Insider though.
The thingies on his head/face are tenticles that suck blood or something from enemies/victims. He's described in the article as something of a "vampire", or vampire-like I guess. He supposedly hides those in cheek pouches though, so that's why I mentioned hoping they're removable, as in the film they're not visible.
Sorta wish it WAS smoke Mike. :) That woulda made a kick ass effect like those laser blasts and stuff.
-
Well I never thought they would make Dannik. So, I'm just happy to see him made. I don't care for the tentacles or whatever those are, but I'll get over it.
Gotal looks superb! Been wanting this guy forever it seems like. Along with some other Cantina patrons yet to be made. But cross 3 more off the list with Myo coming out.
-

I haven't had the heart to open and display a Jar jar figure. Complete or ethical, some choice. Pliers work extremely well at removing plastic and real tongues.
-
You can remove that tongue, but if you do, the only way to replace it is to glue it back on or drill a hole to stick the end of it into.
The new Cantina figures look great - I can't wait to see the Myo.
:P

"Figure comes with removable proboscises, blaster, hookah pipe and base"
Whew! Nice to know those nose-buggers are removable...
More NEW Basic Figures for 2005! (http://www.hasbro.com/starwars/pl/page.news/id.1107/dn/default.cfm)
-
Man, this stuff is just awesome!!! If Episode3 goes back to action features, I really hope we get back to this OTC coolness afterward. Its a shame to see it go away.
-
Definitely a nice wave, and I'm looking forward to it as well. Can't complain about three all-new Cantina fellas in one swoop :). Hopefully these will show up earlier like some of the other waves have. Who would have thought we would have ever seen some of these characters in action figure form?
-
Suh-weet! I love the cantina and palace figures they make. Three more down.
-
These all look great, and as Jeff said, removable nose boogers are good thing as well, though, how wacky will he look with two big holes in his face? I think its lame they put EU into the figure but I'm not griping too much yet. Myo and Feltipern also look great, they capture the essence of both perfectly. All 3 were high on my ANH wishlist at one time, to me they need to make:
Hem Dazon
Bom Vimdin
Braniac
Kel Fas (either Saurin will do)
Wioslea
CZ-3 (they have to have a sculpt done on this one as it was rumored at one time)
And I'd be happy forever with my Cantina/Mos Eisley collection...the other Duros (Bannis Keeg) would be OK, its an easy custom though so I'm not too hip on him, same with either Kel Fas, give me one and I don't need the other
The Tonnika Sisters too but I'm not going to talk about them
-
Woah, these figures are eye candy. Definitely have to get these guys. 8)
-
Me love freaky ass aliens. Bring them on. Only question Hasbro - Where is my Hem Dazon figure? First cantina alien seen and no immortalization in plastic yet? Blasphemy.
-
These are actually really nice.
I wonder if these will get light shipment or end up being like the last POTJ Cantina guys like Zutten, that pegwarmed massively. There's still snaggletooth figures hanging at a couple TRUs around here.
-
Nice news Scott... They are indeed a nice set of figures. I mean, 3 Cantina aliens at one time? That's a dream come true that hasn't been seen since the POTF2 cinema scenes, and these figures are substnatially superior to the old 3-pack figures.
Myo's currently ranking as my favorite I think. That's just really good detailing going on. Can't wait to have these 3 in the bar... I'm gonna have to take some of my filler figures out. I have XD pilots in there, the Toht, the Gestapo guy from Raiders is in there, a space man figure, and damn near a dozen Jawas drinking away. :) These 3 are welcomed by me for sure. Good customizing sources too, especially if you're into fan-fic.
Can't wait to make an Abyssian Rebel Pilot or soldier.
-
They're up from preorder at EE now with a November release. It looks like the Chewbacca, Yoda, and Stormtrooper are just reships on OTC cards, with a Sandtrooper. Maybe they just left the OTC # off of Han.
Post-OTC Wave2 (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/aff-home.asp?id=JE-405087801&number=HS85172C)
2x Feltipern Trevagg (NEW), 2x Myo (NEW), 2x Dannik Jerriko (NEW), 1x Stormtrooper (OTC #16), 1x Sandtrooper, 1x Scout Trooper (OTC #11), 1x Han Solo, 1x Chewbacca (OTC #8), and 1x Yoda (OTC #2).
EDIT: Paying the Bills with the link ;)

I put an order in for this too. The Han has my curiousity. Hopefully it will be the POTJ Bespin version or Hoth version. Either would look nice on the OTC cards. As will the Sandtrooper.
Im beginning to think we are going to see a few more rehash figs on these cards before EP3, which is fine with me. Would love to see some of the pack-in figs from over the years here.
-
Got my pre-order in too! :)
Post-OTC Wave2 (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/aff-home.asp?id=JE-405087801&number=HS85172C)
-
I also pre-ordered this wave...
It will be interesting to see how that Sandtrooper is carded, as well as which Carded Han that is. Is it the OTC, or is it a different Han? Hmmm...
Jeff
-
With this wave probably shipping next month, I bet we will see another onslaught of rehashes before ROTS. Especially with the Holiday Season approaching. No complaints here though. I just love these cards. I also heard a rumor that the Scout Trooper being released again will be the dirty version this time around, and as for the Han, could Hasbro be stupid enough to give us the cantina version again. I just dont see this happening.
-
If they're smart they put that Sandtrooper on a desert backdrop with a dewback behind him, and posed holding his binoculars. Could be a great card. I swear that they will indeed have the balls to reship Cantina Han again, this being the "Cantina" wave. Bastards.
I'm actually at a point where I think some PT rehashes would be in order. Get the SA Clone out again asap, and things like Coleman Trebor, Tusken Raider Female, and Battle Amidala that haven't been seen in some time.
-
The SA Clone is the most needed reship in my opinion.
-
Looking at these pics over at GH, (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=3513&zoneid=2) I'm dissappointed the Cantina figures are not going to be labelled OTC at all.
I guess the real question now is what the Sandtrooper's card will say...
-
Looks like Rebelscum (http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=http://www.rebelscum.com/toys2005/05sandtroopercardf.jpg) has a pic up of the Sandtrooper carded. The background photo is nice, but it is packaged like the other 2005 figures and named "Tatooine Search".
-
It also sounds like we will be getting that super rare cantina Han again ??? I just cant understand that one.

So... they can afford to crank out new carded versions for 2005 (we, the carded collectors, salute you Hasbro ::)) but they are still giving us re-hashed re-hashes??? If you are going to take the time to draw up new cards and everything, why not at least pick "new" older figures to rehash?
I'd understand if they were straight re-releases of the OTC versions, and I even understand Yoda because he's relatively new figure, BUT giving us yet ANOTHER version of that dang Cantina Han Solo blows. >:(
Would it have been SOOOOOO hard to do Bespin Arrival Han Solo? Or how about Hoth Escape Han to go with Hoth Escape Chewie! Cantina Han is now hands down the winner of the re-release contest:
1) - Commtech
2) - 2004 Saga "gold stripe card"
3) - 2004 Hall of Fame
4) - OTC
5) - Wal-Mart C-3PO Carry Case
6) - Sam's Club Falcon
7) - 2005 Star Wars card
8?) - Target Figure w/Cup wave 2
Yet another missed opportunity. I'd have gone with:
1x Han Solo - Mos Eisley Escape Bespin Arrival (using the PotJ Bespin Han)
1x Chewbacca - Hoth Escape Bespin Escape (using Saga Cloud City Chewie)
At least Hasbro kinda seems to be listening by getting some army builders in this case... :-\
Jeff
-
They should have taken the rereleased Chewie and Han, and instead given us a rerelease of the McQuarrie Stormtrooper, or just packed the case with army builders rather than having 1 of each. It also would have been nice to have more than 2 of the new figures, since the repacks in that case are going to clog the pegs.
-
That is exactly the same scenario I was hoping for Jeff. If they have to re-release figures, at least make some different choices once in awhile. I always enjoy Han and Chewie figures, but we've seen more than enough of these two versions (Cantina and Falcon Mechanic). I would have definitely enjoyed seeing the POTJ Bespin Han and Cloud City Chewbacca on the OTC-style cards, and it seems to make perfect sense. Either that, or just re-release the VOTC versions...yeah, I know, wishful thinking.
The troopers are a good idea, although of course the VOTC Stormie would be better. Otherwise, its always good to have Imperial Troops on the pegs like this. The Yoda doesn't bother me too much, because it is basically the best Yoda we've seen. Not surprised they are all rehashes, but it is still a little bit disappointing.
-
The Sandtrooper looks great on the card. I agree, not releasing Bespin Han is curious. It's a great figure and it hasn't been around in years.
And we need a new Carbonite Han! And a Stormtrooper Han and an Endor Han and...

I'm still waiting to see the first shot of Dannik without his tentacle thingees, before I ultimately decide what my thoughts are on this figure. Aside from those though, the rest of him, and the other two definitely look amazing. I'm assuming Dannik's going to have a couple holes in his face when those things aren't in there, which probably won't look so hot. I guess we'll just have to pretend that they're really big dimples... :P
Hasbro's really raising the bar right now with a couple of these upcoming waves (and likely ROTS figures), but I'm nervous to get my hopes up too much, for fear that it doesn't last, as is often the case...
-
I agree Matt...he's going to look like a complete tool with two large holes in his face methinks. Otherwise, this wave is killer and they have been keeping that bar with articulation right where it should be to the joy of everyone
-
BLARGH. that about says it for me.
I find most of the new figures to be really chalky and disgruntled. Awkward poses and bad paint jobs. Even in these photos, you can see paint bleeding out of the lines. I feel as though quality has gone down, where sculpt has kicked it up a small notch. The only one here I even like is the Gotal. He looks good. the rest are poo poo to me.
.. except maybe the sandtrooper...
.. but i have one.. ..or a lot.. (a lot)
-
That Dannik is going to suck big time without those tentacles. Too bad, since I was hoping to display without them, but it just wont look right. Anyone feel these will be shipping in the next few weeks?
-
Here's a nice photo of the 3 Cantina Dudes all lined up together...

It's gonna be interesting to see that first picture of the un-tentacled nose of Dannik... :-\

Jeff, where did you get the images? Are these showing up? Sandtroopers.com claim they are. Anyone?

Got the image from a source who picked them up in Asia.
I haven't seen any confirmed sightings of this wave in the USA yet (confirmed meaning a pic w/receipt), just a lot of conjecture and rumors so far.
They are still listed as November arrival date at EE, so they could show up soon though :-\

ActionHQ just got them so I think mid December is still possible
-
OK, wait a tic... I just noticed something - are they repackaging the same figures again in this new Post-OTC packaging??? I see a Sandtrooper, Stormtrooper, Dagobah Luke... wtf??
-
Yeah - and I think the damn Cantina Han is being repacked again too. Why in the hell are they doing this?
Why not 3 each of the new figures, and one Stormtrooper, one Scout Trooper and maybe the Imperial Officer with a 4th head (I don't mind more army builder repacks)?
:P
-
Jedi Temple Archives (http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/) have updated their photo archive with images of the Cantina wave. Some pretty good, close up, loose pics of the wave. You can also see a pic of what Dannik looks like without his his little "feelers" or probiscii whatever they were called. Looks like some holes in the face. Anyways, you can check out the pics at the linky above.
-
Man...that's about the suckiest thing I've seen on a new figure for a while. There is no reason they even needed to consider putting the probiscii on there. Its not Movie accurate and it just reeks of BAD EU. Yuck, hopefully I can eventually find a way to fill in those gaping holes >:(
-
Damn, that's disappointing. The one bad thing about this wave. Why he would have his probiscus out looking for souls or whatever the hell they do while ripping a bong hit is beyond me. I'm with Scott, I got to find a way to fill in those holes. Wood filler maybe? It's roughly the same color, easy to work with and readily available (the joys of home remodeling)
-

::)
Stupid EU nose-boogers! Nothing better than a figure with holes in his face... >:(
I think you're right about the wood-filler. Might work pretty well to fill up those holes...
Jeff
-
Dannik would and still may be a major pegwarmer. He's got Malikili written all over him, and maybe the nose boogers were Hasbro's attempt to make him visually interesting. But it still blows monkey balls

That's just what I was coming in here to check up on. Thanks for the link mosnab!
But I've got to agree that those holes in Dannik's face look like crap! They're unfortunately pretty much what I was expecting to see though, considering we already knew that appendages "plugged" into his face. Hasbro should've offered two different heads with this figure, ala the Dagobah Luke, if they wanted to get creative with the EU crap and add those lame things on there.
Disappointing. I'm going to have to buy an extra and putty those holes in I guess. :-\

The new price increase does indeed blow. I can understand it for the ROTS figures since it's the last SW film and they want to make all they can off it. But the transitional figures? That blows. Oh well it still won't stop me from buying the Cantina wave. It might stop me from Sly Moore, Pablo Jill, and Rabe. I'll take Padme Celebration though.

Good Lord does that look totally awful...makes me almost want to wretch thinking they wrecked a perfectly GREAT figure with EU Nose Boogers ::)
-
My POTC Wave 2 order has shipped from EE. :)
-
The gaping holes aren't cool, but... I'm still overall pleased with him. The things are unnecessary though, and sorta silly.
No holster on Gotal's kinda, eh, too. Give him a hip or ankle one... No big deal, but whatever. I guess he's just always ready for a gunfight.
Myo's a 2nd favorite for me, as I've wanted a Dannik Jerriko for a while, and I'm gonna label Gotal as 3rd. No real reason, as I would say each is equal to the other. I'm just ranking them this way because I like Myo and Dannik more as characters I've wanted made.
-
Oh man Jerriko is totally screwed up! I like the idea of wanting to add the nose tendril thingies to him, but not at the expense of what looks like a pretty interesting face sculpt. So now the question becomes, do you keep the tendrils in, or do you attempt to fill the holes with sculpey and try to match the paintjob.
-
So now the question becomes, do you keep the tendrils in, or do you attempt to fill the holes with sculpey and try to match the paintjob.
Easy. You do both! ;)
But yeah, I definitely prefer the movie accurate version myself, so I'm gonna have to figure out a way to do the sculpey/paint thing. Maybe I'll beg Jess to fix one of 'em up for me like that.
Jesse, whatchya think buddy? Capable? Willing? :-*
-

Yeah I'm leaning towards fixing the holes myself, the tendrils are just going to look odd in the cantina when he's not attacking anyone.
Jesse capable of doing it? yes no doubt. Jesse capable of finishing it? committee's out on that ;D I've known Jesse for many a year now and in all that time I can't recall him ever mentioning that he finished a custom. That's his MO, I think he has business cards that say Customizing Procrastinator :) Then again I'm beginning to become one myself, he's having a bad influence on me :P

Got my shipping confirmation Friday on the cantina wave.
-
Really that is about the only thing wrong with Derrick. Those idiotic things attached to his face. You guys figure out a way to plug up the holes and I'll ask you how you did it. I can't stand those snotty things coming out of his face. Dumb.
I love that Gotal though. Myo is really nice as well. I just hope I will be able to get them at retail. Always a big question mark for my area it seems. I just hope Hasbro makes some different Cantina guys after ROTS in 2006. Some guys need to be made yet that's for certain.

Got my shipping confirmation Friday on the cantina wave.
Sweet! Me too! ;D
According to EE, they went out on Friday, so they should be here next week! Very nice...

Personally, I like Feltipern the best, not sure if its the colors or the spectacular head sculpt but its an absolutely awesome figure
Next is Myo who is just a tad below Feltipern...which is odd because I wanted Myo more. Both of them are great interpretations of back corner aliens
Last is Dannik...not that I don't think its a great figure. The fact his hookah vase fits on his hip is awesome. The holster is great...its those damn EU Nose Boogers...and the gaping holes they leave in his face. Its ugly...very ugly...and it ruins what could have been a great figure.
I should NOT have to fix mistakes like this. Its EU, it wasn't in the movies and it does NOTHING for the figure but mar and otherwise awesome sculpt and figure. Damn you Hasbro :(
-
I could do it...
You see, doing it for Matt would be easy. Doing it for myself though... I'd want to get a 2nd Dannik, pop the head, fill the holes, mold it, cast it in proper color(s) and then paint it all up...
So yeah, I doubt it'd happen in MY style, but if you want the holes filled with something, Matt, and then them painted over... That's simple.
BTW I'd fill them with 2-part epoxy or something. Devcon plastic welder woudl be better I think... More durable, more plastic-like.
Personally, I'm likely just gonna leave my Dannik alone... It's **** looking, but I'm happy just to get him and the EU feature's "eh" to me. Kinda neat, but I'll just deal with the holes... It's the figures only real drawback though to me... Maybe the elbows too, but the face is the only thing that bugs me.
-
(http://www.jedidefender.com/images/cantinawave/dannikheadsm.jpg) (http://www.jedidefender.com/image.pl?http://www.jedidefender.com/images/cantinawave/dannikhead.jpg)
Look at that thing though...can you honestly call that asthetically pleasing? It was:
#1 unnecessary
#2 stupid to make them removable
I haven't been this worked up about something since Hoth Han Blue, I'm generally easy to please but not on this one >:(
-
I agree... I'm just not as upset I guess, but I agree. It's stupid, and was overkill on Hasbro's part.
I'm maybe just happy to get a Dannik figure at all, and maybe the ease of filling the holes in is what makes me think "eh" about it. I agree though, it's up there in stupidity. They did ruin an otherwise (near) perfect figure.
Dumb of them... No doubt.
-
And don't get me wrong Jesse, overall all three are great figures. The lack of ball elbows is sort of a bummer but the balled knees are great and the paint apps seem to be great too which is a welcome relief over some of the past few waves (Naboo especially)
-
Hey I don't blame you at all Scott.
I'd be the last person to claim anyone's overreacting or something... It sucks. I'd probably be irate if it were on a figure I maybe was more interested in... Not that I'm NOT interested in Dannik, but I guess the background guys get less excitement from me...
This were an army builder though and I'd be pissed.
But I'm not happy with it either. It's ugly, it's unnecessary, and the EU concept behind it wasn't good in the first place which is really irritating. I think that Hasbro THOUGHT they were doing the right thing... They weren't, but maybe they thought they were doing us a favor on this one?
Like they were at the board room and one guy stood up and said "hey, this Dannik guy has this weird face pouch with sucker things, let's make that on him and make it removable". Everyone cheered because they thought it'd be something the weirdoes like us would like, but little did they know that the gaping holes would irritate.
If it were an articulation point that made it slightly less aesthetically pleasing, I'm cool with that. Articulation is a feature/function any action figure should have IMO. The big pores on his noggin' are ugly though, and just silly.
-
And this is from the Dannik Thread at another site...
Apparantly at this site there's some folks who feel that if you complain you're living in your parent's basement, not breathing, and taking your hobby too seriously.
From that charmer, tk421.5 over yonder:
You guys need to relax....breath...yes breath in (might be kinda dank down in your basement but....) and out.
Dannik is really not bad if you leave his whiskers things on. The third hole is for the end of the pipe to plug into. When plugged in, he really does look like he's hittin' the bong pretty hard. I really like this figure and he looks good in my cantina.
Why are douchebags like that still allowed to post there? I'll never get over the trolls and how they never get a reprimand but one fart crosswise about the site or its staff and you're up **** creek without a paddle.
So how many of you in your basement complaining still feel the same way?
As TK 421.5 would always say to you all,

They'll continue to defend Hasbro as long as they are kids who don't have any experience in the world and sincerely believe that large corporations will simply stop making a product because someone isn't pleased with every minute detail. At least they have a home on the net that isn't here.
I finally picked my case up on Wednesday. Overall these are nice additions. Good background filler. I like Myo the best. The knee articulation is such an advancement over the old hinged joints. To get BG characters with this much articulation is a pleasant surprise, but I would be gushing if they gave them elbow articulation to match.
So yeah, the Dannik thing is really weak. With every step they take towards better articulation and sculpt accuracy, they seem to have this pining urge to do something ludicrous. It ruins the figure. That being said, he's such a generic background character that I don't feel the need to get too worked up about it. But it is a shame, I think.
-
I think the guy does have SOMETHING of a point. I looked at the pictures of Dannik Jerriko. Was the idea for this figure a good one? Yes. There's a little bit of backstory about it, and it's kind of interesting. Was the execution of that idea good? No. Hasbro should have scrutinized the piece more and come to the conclusion that sans-snouts, the piece looked poor. They didn't come to that conclusion and we have to live with the end result. It's really that simple.
I can understand people being upset about this figure, but not to any sort of extreme. Say your piece on the message boards and Hasbro will get the message. They do read what gets written in forums. Where matters like this turn absurd is when people complain, complain and complain about the item, and then turn around and buy it anyway since they're "completists". If you are really upset with it, you should exercise your free will and don't buy the piece in question.
-
These are available at www.toysrus.com now for 6.99
-
Point well taken Nick, I can live with the holes but it was a stupid move, the rest of him is well done. I'll continue to hammer home the point that for the most part, EU should be left in the books and comics and keep figures as screen accurate as possible
-

My "completism" doesn't allow me "free will"... ;)
Yeah, Hasbro messed up what would've been an otherwise great figure, by going out on a limb and adding what they thought would be a little something extra that we'd enjoy. Nice thought, but just poor execution.
Perhaps, if they wanted to get that creative with a rather unique and specific head sculpt, they should've gone "Dagobah Luke" on us, and tossed in a "regular", non-holey noggin for ol' Dannik as well.
But someone over at Hasbro should've considered the fact that most collectors would want a "film accurate" Dannik in there Cantina dioramas, and thus would be removing his extra facial appendages there, and then they should've noticed what that would leave us with... Some big, nasty, gaping holes.
Oh well, like Nick said, we've just got to live with it now. A few more final gripes are warranted though, as folks are just now finding this figure at retail. Hopefully some talented customizer can fix a Dannik up for me though... *cough*Jesse*cough* :-*
-
I can live with this guy. I much more excited about Myo and Trevagg anyway. It's the mooky aliens I like! :D
-
I'd disagree that TK has a point... Ever. Aside possibly the one adorning the top of his head.
The irony is nobody in the thread in question is "irate" or expressing any anger as if they're hyperventilating. It's just the fellow's typical "Shut up and quit complaining" attitude which is about as helpful to the community as people who post-pad, or give mis-information, etc.
I think the complaints, even if repeated, gain more notoriety... The point is hammered home. I think overreaction's saying you're quitting the hobby because of it, or really throwing a tantrum. Simple displeasure/dislike and being irate over something you dislike are two different things though, and there in lies the fine line.
Should people not buy it? Well, to me the better question is whether people get a Dannik Jerriko apology figure then if they don't. May not be likely, so those wanting that character in plastic are left with a decision that's not so simple as, "Voice your opinion by not puchasing it because that's how you'll get your way".
I think most of us want a Dannik figure simply because we want one, and I doubt they redo him ever, so many will compromise on buying the figure, even with the displeasure, so I welcome those complaints from them. For those people (and for the completists, whether their collecting style is "right" or not), the forums are the only way to beat a point home...
And in the end, complaining about people's opinions about a toy line on a message board (one devoted to talking about said toy line) is nothing but baiting and condescending. Disagreement is cool, but when people are condescending about it and simply telling people to "shut up" in their own subtle way, then they've overstepped bounds... TK's the old master of that over yonder.
-
I'm all for complaining. It seemed to work well for the Saga Hoth Han figure, didn't it? :D
Regardless of Dannik's shortcomings, I'm really excited about this entire wave of Cantina figures. Part of a dream come true for me, as the Cantina is my absolute favorite Star Wars environment. So to get 3 more obscure backgrounders out of Hasbro is a-ok with me! Now if they'd just make one more wave with Arcona, Bom Vimdin and a Tonikka sister or two, I'd be in heaven.
-
I'm living with Dannik's looks too... To me I just figure I'll fix it on this one. I think it's the people who "can't" (Matt, you can, you're just lazy, don't lie) who have the greater gripe here really.... Deep down I feel it's within everyone's grasp to fix it, but nobody should "have" to either... But it's nothing terribly difficult if someone wants to.
Either way, it looks like crap though so it sucks and many people won't attempt a fix because they're not confident in their ability to do so. That makes it a bigger deal to them I'm sure.
I'm to the point I feel Dannik turned out to be the worst of the 3, which sucks for me since he was the most wanted of the 3 for me, but I'm gonna "live with it" too Snively.
Ironic you mention making the swappable heads Matt, because I thought the same thing when i first saw it. Theoretically it would've been less $ to have done it that way. 2 molds instead of 3. Whatever though...
I dig his hookah though, I think that's cool looking. Not enough pipe smoking figures these days.
At this point, Myo's my #1 just because he was my #2 before... I dig the gotal too, even without a holster. Nice reuse of the Bespin gun too though on him since it gives some blaster diversity to the Cantina dudes. I dig that.
With Dannik's passing I'd like the Arcona to be done now, Bom Vimdin and his nifty tunic, and actually an Evazan resculpt would be creeping up on my list given the facial detail they captured on Dannik... What they didn't screw up with the holes is actually really accurate.
Evazan's maybe due now, especially since I now know where he's sporting the holster and his blaster's all done up nice and new. :) I'd dig seeing him get some justice as a figure.
-
Well, I can certainly understand everyone's frustration. I just happen to think that the best form of protest in this instance is not giving in to the collecting bug and making a statement monetarily.
I think if you're going to compromise and buy the thing, you do have options. I would consider buying two. One I would keep with probosci in place, and on the other one I would remove the offending protrudences. I would then fill in the holes with sculpey and do a repaint of the head. Not a very difficult solution.
-
Fifty bucks says Bantha5 casts the head with no holes. That should fix the fig for a lot of people.
-
Saw this wave at Toys R Us today so they out at retail now too! Which means we might see the Preview Wave fairly soon...which then means there will be a good three month lull in figures ::)
-
On the main page it said they were at Walmart too - also at $6.99? That sucks... and I thought that Walmart never had .99 prices - usually ending in .74 or .84 or something a few nickles less than the competition.
:P
-

Actually, the Preview wave showing before Christmas is kind of unlikely. I think the last SW to ship is going to be this Cantina wave. I can't see them sneaking two waves of figures in before Christmas as we're only 2 weeks away. Besides, there's probably a rough street date on the preview wave. I wouldn't expect to see them before February.
Traditionally, the lull at toy stores occurrs immediately after Christmas. There will be a number of year-end sales. Then, the toy chains go into inventory mode for a week or two. Then orders go our and things start to trickle in towards the end of January/early February. I've seen it too many times to not to know what to expect.
-
Carded samples were shown a few weeks ago though weren't they? I still think there's a chance it could happen. January is probably more likely...I think they are supposed to be due in February if I remember right
-
I know where those first carded samples on eBay came from. It wasn't a way you would typically see things make their way out to retail.
-
I wrangled a set of these tonight...
Seems to me the $6.99 butt reeming, err, I mean the $6.99 price hike is hurting these new figures because these were put out Monday and there were two full sets of them this evening still at the same store (know a guy who works at the store).
I think they're not as good an Ebay investment now perhaps.
Well, Scott's already got them so I'm not breaking new ground for him...
On Dannik Jerriko, the gaping holes in his face, to me, don't look as bad in person, but they're still unsightly, unnecessary, and I'd say they're generally unwanted. Not cool..
That said, Dannik's bong holster rocks, and his bong itself is incredibly cool. His holster holds his blaster snugly I feel (I've heard some complaints the holsters don't hold them, but to me I think the holster's just a tighter fit... If you push the blaster fits in though). I love the detail... Lots of good paint applications here. The figure could've stood either ball/socket shoulders, or ball/socket elbows... Ankles wouldn't have hurt either, especially for the $7 hike. Still he's cool.
Myo's pretty neat and has the best "drinking" pose. :) I love that. His mug looks like his drink has a nice head of foam on it too. I dig his colors of his space suit... They included some neat poutch sculpts on his outfit too. His holster also snuggly holds his blaster, however his hand isn't sculpted so the trigger finger fits his blaster. That sucks. Again I think ball/socket shoulders woulda done this figure a lot of positive bonus.
Feltripern (whatever) is neat too. really nice and coloful, and probably the best headsculpt of the 3. That's no small feat given that all 3 are nice. The Gotal's not got a holster though, could use the same articulation the other two could, and his blaster's pretty warped (Run your hot water in the bathroom sink a while, then fill a dixie cup some and drop it in... It should take its natural shape back... Word to the wise guys!). Gotal has a neat drinking pose too, but he can't hold his gun right... Almost holds it drunk.
Anyway, a mini overview from me... I'm havin' fun just playign with these right now... Or, uhm, I mean I'm "posing" them for accurate recreations of Star Wars adventures... And giggling while I do so.
The figure's neatness makes the $7 reeming less painful... Some complimentary lube on the shelf might've helped though.
I think had this been the OTHER POTC figures, that I would've only gotten Yarna and Pablo while leaving the rest. :( $7's pushing the envelope of what I can justify. I mean, $23 about, for 3 figures. Sheesh. >:(
-
Well, maybe that price will keep them hanging aorund when they finally show up here. Can't wait to find these guys!
-
Got my 2005 Cantina wave back on the 10th of Dec, but only got around to opening them last night thanks to a busy week last week.
I really like the way this wave was done. I agree with Jesse in that better elbows/shoulders and these guys would be perfect. The only real gripe I have is the EU nose bugger debate, which has been well-hashed already. For now, I've take off the Nose-buggers and have Dannik posed in my cantina with his face turned profile so that the holes are a bit trickier to see what with him not being face-out.
Jeff
-
I did end up getting Dannik yesterday. To be honest the holes in the face are not that bad. Well, they are I guess, but for a background character that I really thought would never ever get made it's ok. Especially when you put the pipe in his mouth. Hard to notice unless you stare at Dannik's face. Who wants to do that? He's one ugly mo-fo.
-
I felt similar to you Broem, but I will say the gaping holes in the face are THE worst aspect to all 3 figures in that wave. Though Fetripern (sp?) not having a holster for his gun kinda blew too.
-
As I've said a couple of times. It was totally unnecessary and wasted tooling money that could have been used to make a holster for Feltipern
-
Just got these goofballs from BBTS today. I haven't yet opened them, but they look pretty good.
I'm getting the feeling Dannik is going to be a pegwarmer.
-
I think all 3 will be if released in good #'s. In the end, Cantina aliens never do "well" at retail when they hit the shelves in droves... They don't have much going for them other than every collector wants one (not two or three generally).
I still agree Scott, that the Probisces (whatever) suck... I just am indifferent to them because I like every other aspect about the figure a whole bunch... To me a holster on Feltripern (sp?) would've been no additional cost, so that was just excuseless.
On one figure it's simply a matter of something the figure SHOULD have had that just didn't get and on the other figure it's a bad, bad, decision to include something it didn't need... And then subsequently ruined an otherwise great likeness in sculpt. That sucks and makes Dannik the worse of the 3.
Feltripern's slowly overtaking Myo in my favorites department, but the holster's excuseless, plain and simple. Sucks double that he's the figure who has the toughest time holding his gun. Bleh.
I still like Dannik, but he's #3 on the list... Love the bong though.
-
The Bong and the Bong Holder are great :) And I don't hate Dannik at all, I love all three of these figures, really :)
-
Yep, I have these figures now too and love this wave. They are so freaking articulated and well sculpted that I don't feel bad for paying $10 each for them.
Myo - A+
Gotal - A+
Dannik - B+
I hope I can get a few more for some customs. :)
:P
-
Even though I do not have the figures I agree with the Dennik being a B+ simply because of the Probiscus sticking out from his face...if you want him to be in the cantina without them (like the movie) then he has 2 crater dimples on the sides of his face!!!
-
Yeah Jedirhino, everything else about the figure seems perfect. But when you take the tentacle things out of this face, it looks pretty bad. Hopefully I can find another and customize it a bit.
:P
-
well, I wasn't really looking for these yet, but I stumbled upon Feltipern and Myo at my Target this evening. Only one of each, but after looking at them for a while and really considering, I bought 'em.
I'm really happy with them. I hadn't been excited about this wave...all these Cantina figures with no Hem Dazon really makes me sad, but these guys are nice, and exactly what Cantina figures should be. I was surprised by the ball-socket neck joints, as well as the detailing on their little cups. The paint jobs are really good, too, that bodes well for the ROTS stuff.
I searched for Dannik but he wasn't there. I'm kind of glad, since I really didn't like the character to begin with, and the face-things don't appeal either. If he was there I would've had to do some real soul-searching (esp. since they cost 2 bucks more now.) I do that with Yarua everytime I see him (haven't caved...yet...) and I know I'll do it with that hosenose...
So, two out of two figures for 2005 that I definitely had to have. ROTS will be a big maybe, so I'm pretty much all done already. :-[
-
I found these at two different Targets today, plus Animated wave 3.
I thought I was going to pick up some carded versions, but, at $7 a crack, no. I'm blowing way too much on this stuff as it is, plus the ROTS stuff is out in a few months.
-
Has anyone confirmed whether the Dagobah Luke will be shipped in the two variations? Original pics showed the handstand, but I have seen nothing but the standing versions.
-
All I've seen are the standing versions too.
I was fortunate enough to score a handstand version on the OTC card, though, so I haven't been paying too much attention.
-
I didn't realize they'd repacked so much with the Cantina wave... Saw a few of them, including that Chewbacca and Dagobah Yoda... I guess they aren't pegwarming so why not, though Chewie and Yoda WERE easy to find for quite some time (just not now).
Got my 2nd Cantina set tonight for $2 each. Makes up for the $7 each I paid at TRU for my first set. :)
-
I've only seen standing
-
Scott,
If you are wanting a handstand piece. I have an extra one, but it a little beat up. Let me know and we can work something out.
-
I have one (that I'm actually holding for i-fett), thanks though :)
-
Found the Cantina wave at Wal-Mart this past weekend, so I'm caught up on basic figs now aside from the Animated CW ones, until the ROTS Preview stuff hits. Not that I care, because I'm a loose collector, but the "batch" I found of these at Wal-Mart were really on bent up cards, each and every one. Looked like it was how they were packed though, and not done by someone else. Anyways, happy to find them!
-
I didn't see anything else on this while reading through this topic, but here's a question: I picked up a few of these guys the other day from a few different places, and I noticed something: I have carded versions of Myo and Trevagg holding their glasses, and carded versions where the glasses are just packed in the bubble. Anyybody know which is the "rare" variant, and which is the regular release? I'm thinking the figures where they are holding their drinks is the regular version. Were they made with the drinks just packed in first, and switched later, or is the other way around?
-
I'm thinking the figures where they are holding their drinks is the regular version. Were they made with the drinks just packed in first, and switched later, or is the other way around?
This is only my guess, but I'd bet that they were originally packed holding their cups, and then changed so that the cups were attached to the bubble. I'm guessing some politically correct special interest group decided we shouldn't be directly encouraging kids to drink, so they took the cup out of their hands. ;D
-
A collective "Oh, ****" for the carded/variant completists out there... I caught these nice pictures from White_Biker (or J.S. Betancourt at Sandtroopers):
That's two variations, and one production error, for anyone keeping track. I have 4 of each of these guys (still carded) at home, but I have no idea if I've got any of these variants. Gonna have to check when I get home, and then I'm gonna likely have to start searching for them, especially the latter two... :-\
-
Dang. I couldn't do the whole Variant collecting deal. :-\
Yikes.
Kevin
-
The Feltipern's a nice one because his first version had the gun all warped. Easily fixed, but still I hate warped weapons because of the shoddy plastic Hasbro uses...
Oh yeah, and I am very pleased I don't piss with carded figures... I'd just be irritated beyond belief.
