Star Wars Action Figures / New Republic Trooper (Riot Gear)

It's a well known fact that the Galaxy pretty much goes down the crapper after Palpatine is overthrown. So who's there to lay the smack-down when the citizens start whining about food, taxes, or Alien rights? Why, your friendly neighborhood New Republic Troopers, of course.

This is my 3rd entry for this month's Yakfinities Kit-Bash Challenge. I was inspired by the New Foo Fighters Video this morning and here's the results. LMK what you think.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Customs by Fritzkrieg Update 10-21-2007

Here is my entry for This months Yaklfinities Kit Bash Challenge.

Null ARC Seargent A'den (Covert Ops)

In the current Republic Commando novel I'm reading, the Clones wear lite weight armor under there clothes durring low profile missions.  I thought this sigma six Torso had the look of what that armor might look like exsposed. I chose to make it ARC  Seargent A'den because of the green piping on the torso. I did use a little goof off to remove the Sigma six logo from the chest, no one said we could'nt remove paint. LMK what you think.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / BPI Tinting Unit
« on: October 19, 2007, 11:33 PM »
A lot of you guys have been asking about a tinting tutorial. I really don't have a way of putting togther one that most of you would be able to implement, at least not without a heavy financial investment.

I have a proffesional optical lab at my disposal. The equipment I use in a BPI tint unit or system, the BPI Super Color 9 to be specific.

Here's a pic of the unit.

Each of the nine tanks holds a different dye or solution. You can get just about any color tint you want from BPI. My tank has the following colors in it at all times.
Jet Black, Pink, Blue, Brown, G-15(The Color of Green Ray-Ban Lenses),
Supershield Red (Very Vivid Red), Yellow, UV(For making Sunglasses), and Neutralizer(Bleach).

All of the Tints are Molecular Catalytic Tints. They bond with the plastic on a Molecular level, so they retain their color much longer than RIT Dyes.

The tints are kept at a constant temp all the time about 110 degrees

When trying to achieve a certain color for a plastic I'm dyeing, It's a lot like mixing paints to achieve a certain color. Remember your color wheel.

Not all plastic types tint at the same rate. So, if I'm tinting a Bigs Jacket Orange, I take all the pieces apart first so I can control the time each piece stay in the tint vat. The softer rubbers tend to tint much faster than some of the harder plastics.

Painted surfaces also affect the tint color. A lot of the paint Hasbro uses will not take tint or it tints much slower then the unpainted plastic. Another interestinf thing about the painted surfaces bleach out very fast. On my Twi Lek brute the paint was easily brought back to it's original coloring with a quick dip in the neutralizer. That's how I maintained the coloring of the Teeth and eyes.

This system uses a lot of different chemicals and heat, I do not suggest you try it at home. But if any of you have a friend in the Optical business, ask them if they could show how the system works. If they are in a more laxed work enviroment maybe they'll let you come back a tintker aroungd with the tints yourself.

The tinted plastics are safe. It is the same stuff you wear on your face in your sunglasses.

I don't know if this will actually help anyone but I tried.

Star Wars Action Figures / Big John 2.0
« on: October 18, 2007, 09:08 PM »
This custom is a revision of an earlier Big John. I used BPI Dye to tint his vest brown instead of the soft goods I had used on the first version. No paint was used on this custom. This character will have a reacurring role in my PN series. LMK what you think.

Star Wars Action Figures / Crocket & Tubbs
« on: September 29, 2007, 11:51 PM »
I'm really getting a lot of cool lookings results, using Optical Dye on the Bigs Jacket. Here are a trio of my 90% tinted onlt customs.

This first set reminds me of Crocket and Tubbs. I used tint to match the skin color of Tubbs's hand to his face. Using a mix of Brown and Red Dyes for Crocket's Jacket, I think I got pretty Close to the "Old Brown Leather Jacket look". Tubbs's Jacket was just, straight up blue dye. These guys will be making an appearence in my PN. LMK What you think.

This next Custom has no paint at all, The 2 toned shirt was made using dye and a Zoids decal. The hands and neck were color matched to the face using dye. This is another Clone in Casual wear for my PN. LMK what you think.

Star Wars Action Figures / Imperials (Casual Wear)
« on: September 23, 2007, 06:41 PM »
What's an Imperial wear for a night out on the town?

Here are a couple more of my PN customs. I needed the Imperials to have some alternate clothing for down time.
The Jackets have been dyed black using BPI optical dye. It doesn't fade and their is no joint wear. I used the same dye on the clone's holster. The only parts that are painted are the undershirts and the neck of the clone. LMK waht you think.

Here is another custom I put together for my PN, he is actually a revision of a previous version I made. I decided he was going to play a major role in the story arc, so I needed a more versitile custom. Here are the end results,LMK what you think.
