LEGO / Re: Lego 2011

The Mace Windu fighter is priced in Euros.  40 Euros (at today's rates) is more like $30 US.

Not a terribly exciting list really...  I like the Jedi Starfighters, but after that I suppose I could see myself picking up the Battlepacks...   :-\

LEGO / Re: Lego Mini vehicle line - What do you think?
« on: November 15, 2010, 11:51 AM »
Hey, don't know if anyone is interested, but part of Target's reset for Christmas is their usual isle of stocking stuffers.  Included is the X-Wing mini kit which was last out for Easter (I think).  The whole bin seemed to be only X-Wings, so I passed on getting any.  I was hoping that it would be something new, but maybe in a couple weeks...

Could you just return the speeder bike?

Nope, they were specific they wanted the whole thing, hence their promise to send the same item or one of equal value (it would be funny if they sent me one of those Blue Felucia slugs as replacement though...)

Can you buy another one and return the one with the missing part with that box?

No.  I don't have the extra cash to do that right now, plus that would be a crappy thing to do to someone else's kids.  Frankly my son is never going to get the figures to sit on the speeder bike properly anyway, so the bike will probably stay in the back of the AT-AT for the most part (I've bought a couple of those Maestos motorcycles from Walmart and I've probably helped him put the same Scout back on the motorcylce about 100 times in the last month) .  I was just hoping that Hasbro would be more like LEGO (the one time I bought a set that was missing a piece, I submitted the request and the part was on my doorstep like a week later).  I get that its completely different in that LEGO actually sells their toys in parts intentionally, but still, it was worth a shot.

So I sent Hasbro a question about my AT-AT (the box was missing one of the pieces for the Speeder bike).  Hasbro replied that they'd be happy to have me ship the whole item to their return facility and they'll send me a replacement, or item of equal value, in 4-6 weeks.

I told them that was ridiculous, I'm not going to take my son's toy away for 4-6 weeks because they didn't include a part.   I'm also not going to return it to the store because I no longer have the box (my Wife recycled it..).  I get that Hasbro isn't supposed to jump because I complained about something, but I'm still disappointed in their response.

My take is that you should get them.

I too picked up the EE packs from eBay (I bought them a few at a time and I think I'm missing one or two).  And its unlikely that Hasbro would ever do a straight repack of these sets.  While they might get one or two out as exclusives, they'll probably be different enough where you would want to rebuy them anyway.  I think its R2-X2, in the EE sets he's black and white, Hasbro "re"released him in an ESB wave last year, except now he is a Kelly Green and white.  So on your shelf it looks like two distinct droids.

Add to that, I have no confidence that Hasbro would rerelease already made droids.  Sure its happened, but to only a handful of droids (outside R2-D2).

TV-9D9 / Re: The Clone Wars - Season Three Discussion Thread

Ultimately, in my reading, he was a good guy.  He gets sent off to try and convince Dooku that's he's turned to the dark side, but the story goes kind of back and forth about whether he actually went over to the dark side, or if he's really a double agent for Dooku.  Ultimately he ends up on Kashyyyk when he's nearly killed by O66.  He manages to escape the troops trying to kill him, and even fights the Clone Commander personally tasked with killing him.  He manages to escape and eventually meets up with his girlfriend/wife (I can't recall if they marry) and they have a son together.

As far as the war goes, he doesn't get involved in a lot of the front line fighting like Kenobi and Skywalker.  He does a lot of spying stuff.  He commands some troops, but ultimately doesn't like or trust the clones.

I too picked up the AT-AT.  I used the coupon (color) no problem.  The store I was at had about 8 more in stock.  I didn't see any signs that indicated that the AT-AT was on sale.  Just an odd sale.  My four year old spent about 20 minutes saying "Wow!" when I got home :).  He's particularly happy to have a "Daddy" to go with his "Baby" Galactic Heroes AT-AT.

Quick question.   On the pack in speeder bike there are, supposed to be, two gray squares on the back that somehow work with the legs so the speeder bike can stand.  My speeder bike is missed one of those squares.  If I contact Hasbro customer service, how likely are they to send me a replacement part, or does the equivalent piece from older versions, of the speeder bike, fit?  I have a bunch of the older speeder bike (with the incorrect handle bars) so I'm not sure if they redesigned the back end...

I'd be down for more logs of various sizes and colors.

Perhaps a Shadow Log?  Or even a McQuarrie Log?

I know it would never happen, and its been sort of done before, but gun stations.  I'm thinking a whole turbo-laser battery, or atleast a single gun, like the ones seen on the first Death Star firing at Luke 'n Friends.  I just think it would be a cool way to tie a bunch of the Imperial figures together.  Again, never going to happen, but I think it would be a cool piece for display (especially since it seems that so much of the Rebel firepower is in snub-fighters, so logically their counterpart would atleast partly be Imperial gunner crews...).

The Vintage Collection / Re: Boba Fett Mail-Away Offer?
« on: October 25, 2010, 09:45 AM »
Diddly,

For the Eopie mail-away I filled out two forms, included the 10 POPs and one check.  So anecdotally it works, but for the reasons JJ & Phruby said its probably wiser to split them.  If I recall they send the figures using mail class that is a step below junk mail (only half kidding), so I can't imagine the checks and stuff they receive has an audit trail to make sure you get all the items you've requested.

Not sure if this is the best spot...

Was at Target last night to try and find the Mini-Muggs (not yet) and a Halloween costume for my 2 year old.  There was no end-cap, so I took a look in the aisle.  There were atleast two items that had been swapped.  The below multipack (the sharp-eyed might be able to catch that those are not infact Clone Troopers.... :P).  Also swapped was an old Obi-Wan for one of the Obi-Wan Saga Legends.  I took both up to the front desk and explained how the figures in the package weren't the correct items and that clearly someone had bought, swapped and returned them.  She seemed to have heard of this happening before.  If it was Wal-Mart they would be back on the shelf within 20 minutes, I'm hoping Target is better about it.  I know I've found swapped items at both Target and Walmart locally, but I can't recall if the Target items made it back on shelf or not...

Note-I can't upload the picture  >:(  Stinking software won't let me go to any of those photo hosting sites..

I think the white suited guys in this ebay auction are the same figures.  I don't know GI Joe figures very well...

To me, most of the planets in the OT (Tatooine, Yavin 4, Hoth, Dagoba, Bespin and Endor) were pretty much supposed to be the galactic sticks.  So in a, non-OT purist, way it would make sense if they didn't pop in to Yavin 4.  The exception is Tatooine obviously due to the Jabba connection.  Though in TPM the Republic has no presence on Tatooine, but by ANH there is atleast a small garrison (or were all of the troops from the Star Destroyer?)

I would love to see more of Alderaan though.

I didn't get to watch last week or this week's episodes until Saturday night and I have the same "meh" reaction.  It was certainly better than watching Dora the Explorer, but sub-par for the Clone Wars.  Two things to comment on really though:

First, why did Lucas mess with Mandalore?  I've read all of Karen Traviss' books and think that the backstory she developed fit better with the other EU.  (Isn't that a bit of circular logic on my part?) Plus, it could have fit within the story that the Clone Wars was telling (the hiring of mercenaries/bounty hunters to train the clones, clones being individuals with varying motivations, etc.).  I think that most of the story that has taken place on Mandalore could have easily been transposed to nearly any other system; which would have left intact the Traviss story.

Second, I'm hoping there is a big pay off to the Mandalore episodes.  Dutchess Satine needs to do something big.  Unless she's been manipulating everything to take out her political opposition and cement power for herself so she can join the Separatists (perhaps Obi-Wan could be torn between what he has to do to defend the Republic and not wanting to fight against Satine, who he loves; but NOT as a brother..), I'm going to be disappointed.

To me, and clearly most of the older viewers of TCW, the Mandalorian episodes are largely a diversion from most other episodes.  So without a reason to focus on mandalore (aside from selling Pre Viszla figures), I don't see a lot of point in Lucas messing with what was a fairly well fleshed out area of EU.

LEGO / Re: LEGO 2010
« on: October 5, 2010, 09:33 AM »
Yeah, I've picked up a bunch at Target over the last few years.

I was in KMart the other day with my son.  They've had one of last year's sets on the clearance isle for a month or two (its the one with Han on a TaunTaun, a couple Rebels and two Snowtroopers), but never quite cheap enough where I was willing to bite (I already had the set, but I could use a couple more troops and Luke needs a TaunTaun too...).  So I scanned the price ($15 something...) and my son HAD to have the set.  He's not big into LEGO, so I tried to show him a few other things he might want instead (Imaginext plane or a Megablocks Dora set...), but he had to have the LEGO Star Wars set.

I had a hard time convincing my Wife that it really was my son's decision, but I couldn't help but be proud!
