Post by: evenflow on February 14, 2009, 08:16 PM
GH is reporting that:

EXCLUSIVES - Comic-Con

Smiling Luke with X-Wing Ladder (HasbroToyShop)
Force Unleashed Stormtrooper (StarWarsShop)

Smiling Luke with X-Wing Ladder (HasbroToyShop)

Awesome! Hopefully it has the cancelled headsculpt that the WM Droid Factory version was gonna come with. That just looked hilarious. ;D

Plus now I won't have to buy the overpriced Red Two X-Wing just to get the ladders. :)

Yeah, kind of a neat exclusive for SDCC - and at least they are throwing in an accessory like that to justify the likely higher price.

So you get smiling face xwing Luke for $20+. Oooo...goodie! :-\

Sorry but there isn't a chance in hell that I'm buying that. I can't even stand the $8+ for regular figures.

Yeah, but the ****-eating grin will always remind you of the the $20+ you shelled out to get an over-priced exclusive... It's as if Luke is saying "Sucker!" instead of "Carrie!" as he descends from the X-Wing!

I donno about the Luke. If we're getting the ladder with the Wedge X-wing, looks like I can pass. I could use another Stormtrooper Commander though.

Ya - stoned Luke with ladder is an AWESOME exclusive for $20!  Can't wait.  FU Trooper is also a pretty big slap in the face as most of us had to jump through hoops to score the Gamestop version.
Title: Re: SDCC Exclusives

Was $20 a confirmed price point or are we all just cynically expecting it to be $20?
Title: Re: SDCC Exclusives
Post by: Jesse James on February 16, 2009, 01:30 AM
I think it's just cynically expecting it, but with good cause.  To be honest, the way everything is going up it seems, $20 may be a bit of a lowball.

I'm thinking I'll pass on both till I see them either on sale or can get the accessory cheap or something.  Honestly they're going to be insanely overpriced, and a smiling Luke means absolutely nothing to me, and the FU Stormtrooper I'd already written off a long time ago...  Sure I'd dig a ladder, but I'm not gonna bend on a $20+ figure for just a ladder accessory.  I'll pass on these.

Bad news for the carded collectors out there - Hasbro has confirmed that the SDCC'09 TFU Stormtrooper Commander will indeed be packed on the new red/white card with an outer clamshell (http://hanshideout.blogspot.com/2009/04/hasbro-star-wars-q-session-9.html).  Not a surprise I guess since that was the way they said they were leaning, but it's a pain I'm sure for some who now need to track down the new one too.

Although it's distracting now, ultimately I think it's more accurate as I think they've always supposed to have been silver.

Here is a decent shot were they do look like they were made of a silver nylon material:

Yeah, you think Hasbro could spring for the RED ladder as well...

It couldn't possibly cost that much to produce that ladder and throw it in as an accessory.

What a piece of junk...

Yup.

And what do they want for that, $15-20 bucks?  Over my dead body.

I still think this is a better situation than an exclusive actually being a figure that most of us want, like the Tonnika Sisters or something along those lines, because then we'd have to deal with the cost/availability insanity of an exclusive.

The way it's been, they can just keep the piece of junk.

Check out the arms they look a little longer but the more obvious difference is on the white "block" on the forearm. The previous version does not have that detail, at the very least the forearm is new. As far as the torso goes the neckline looks higher and the sides of it look cleaner than the previous version. This could be the angle however the forearm detail looks sculpted and not painted over which makes me think/supports they used some more "new" parts besides that one. It also perfectly match the reference pic with that detail. Is it more reason to buy? For me yes, the head ladder, forearm and hopefully cleaner paint job will justify the purchase. I am a happy to see this figure regardless, it better than another Clonetrooper or Stormtrooper.

LMK your thoughts.

The white block was on the WM Droidfactory version (http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=/TLC/DroidFactory/6/tlcDF-225.jpg)/SL version too. It was painted differently on the original VOTC figure.

They're not. The carded picture clearly shows that it's the VOTC Luke torso, not the Vakil torso.

The area behind the figure should have a solid color in it that contrasts the figure.  If the back had been dark blue, the white figure would have been silhouetted against it.

Title: Re: SDCC Exclusives
Post by: Darth Broem on April 24, 2009, 02:04 PM
I have zero desire for the stormtrooper.  However, I would like the Luke.  I just don't want to pay $15-$20 for him.  But I've been whining about exclusive prices for years so it's no surprise now.  Hell I don't even like paying $7.50 at retail.  Hence one of the reasons I've really scaled back.

However, I  do not give a crap that they did not give us both ladders.  I never even knew there was a red one.  For some reason I just remember a yellow one.  For $15 though they could have added it I suppose.  I actually think this is a decent "exclusive" as far as exclusives go.  At least he was in the movie and actually did have a big smile going on.  I like this better than silver-paint dipped sandtroopers or Vaders.  Everyone would have cried (and did if I remember correctly) had this been released at retail.  Could there have been something "cooler"?  Hell yeah I guess.

In the end I probably will skip it though.  Again I just can't bring myself to pay $20 for an alternate smiling head and ladder.  I guess it's somewhat disappointing but at least it's an exclusive and not something you have to buy to get the missing part to a build-a-droid you may want.

The ladder and Luke pilot will almost certainly reappear later, though maybe not together.  Probably in the Legends line, maybe in a multipack.  The Trooper is a big yawn for me as I don't play games.  He look like something I'd expect to see in the early episodes of the Live Action series, as the transition continues between the ROTS CTs and ANH's STs.

The ladder is included in the upcoming Wedge X-Wing set, so they are already putting it to use. I need to get two Lukes to have a ladder for my Red Leader X-Wing.

According to JediInsider (http://jediinsider.com/index.php?catid=8&itemid=11949), the prices have been revealed for this year's exclusives:

Luke Skywalker (smiling) X-Wing Pilot w/ladder - $9.99
Force Unleashed Stormtrooper Commander - $12.99

Both overpriced still, but I'm surprised that Luke is $9.99, and that both aren't priced closer to $15.

More or less  my sentiments exactly.  I'll probably lop off Luke's dumbass noggin' (and neck) and add a headsculpt that I feel looks "young" and appropriate to the body.  The current Star Trek figures I feel look pretty good with the Luke body giving the flight briefings a little variety in height.  The helmet will need a splash of paint though I guess.

That's been my plan with Red Leader figures, till I get a new body to swap his noggin onto anyway.

I know that....but I bet the yellow one in the Luke set is the same one that comes with the Wedge X-wing.  There's probably holes on the X-wing that you can attach the ladder to.
Title: Re: SDCC'09 Exclusives
Post by: Darth_Anton on August 3, 2009, 10:38 AM
There shouldn't be two holes on the X-wing since the connectors on the ladder are female and I doubt they would have to have added male ends to the X-wing. That would have been extra work on Hasbro's part.  :P

Those slots/holes were molded on the original ladder from the cancelled Saga Yavin Accessory Set as well. You can kind of see the protrusions in the image below.

The cards actually IMO look very neat. I like how the package is smaller, too large packages (like TLC white packaging) look plain strange. As for the SDCC exclusives, the Luke Skywalker was just a stupid idea.   :'( A slot for a different exclusive could have been filled in there. The Luke Skywalker figure should have been a SW Shop exclusive. The choice Hasbro made for the release is strange, but I guess it's what collectors buy. The Stormtrooper Commander figure is a GOOD choice, since many collectors missed out on it. And, actually, one question....

HOW COME HASBRO KEEPS INCLUDING VADER'S LIGHTSABER HILT WITH RELEASES OF X-WING PILOT LUKE??!!  ???
