Here's a suggestion...  Do like me, and if you don't have involvement in here, don't post.

Seriously.  I AM part of the staff here, and this isn't MY business, so thusly I stay out of it.  Hemish is one of MANY stand-up people at our site...  He's one of the entire membership here of "stand up people", and the staff in charge of this are handling this for said people.

Those of us not involved need not comment...  Call me spanky, but that'd be MY "stance".  Thank you.

I'm not dropping this to agitate, just simply giving advice that should be applied to more conversations at ANY forum, not just here.  It simply makes more sense to me, I don't know.

Well..  Spell checker is your friend?  I don't know.

Seriously though, taking time to spell things out completely instead of abbreviating will go a long way towards people taking you seriously around here, as we're a little strict in regards to that compared to some other sites.  We encourage people of all ages to join in, but we also run a site that we like to cater to more adults, and the lax spelling doesn't generally fly well.

Not much advice otherwise...  Welcome aboard JediDefender.com, look around, share your thoughts and opinions, enjoy yourself, and have fun.

Toy Reviews / New JD Review: Sora Bulq
« on: April 13, 2006, 03:29 AM »
Another week, and of course another review.

This time we are taking a microscope to one of the BIGtime steamers of the Geonosis Wave.  The Jedi Knight/Master guy Sora Bulq.  Check out the Full Review Right Here.

So what is it that Hasbro flubbed with Sora Bulq?  Well honestly, they were hitting all the marks till *drum roll* articulation came about.  It's typical of 2006, but with Sora Bulq it was probably the most annoying lack of articulation because the figure actually has 2 articulation points NOBODY cares about, and at the same time lacks knee joints, and thus lacks real poseability.

The arm articulation on him is stellar though and I feel the headsculpt is one of Hasbro's better efforts, at least on a Jedi figure.  There's a lotta detail there, and the way the dreadlocks hang separate of the figure, they're great looking.

The arms are super poseable too, and he can pull off great poses from the waist up, but for some inexplicable reason Hasbro toy designers said that Sora Bulq needs ankle joints but not knee joints...

WTF?   ???  Why would you articulate the ankles, but not the knees?  They did this with the Mustafar Sentry, The Utapau Warrior, and the Neimoidian Warrior...  And to be honest, and blunt, it didn't do a goddamn thing to help any of the above figures.

Why would you articulate a figure's ankles and not his knees?  That just doesn't make an ounce of sense to me...  Does it to you?  I don't know.

Anyway, read the review and share your thoughts...  Vent if you want because I felt like it too.

In my area, Target is all there is to pick from and they're $6.64...  WM's mostly don't even have pegs, and those that do are over $6.  KM has nothing...

KB is $6.99...  TRU $6.99...

Cody...  Never.  Don't have one yet.
Scorch...  Never.  Got two of the 3 I need (2 for me, 1 for gf's son) via a friend locally.
Utapau Clone...  Several times now, but never more than 3 at any given time, and only saw three once.

And to add to this...

UGH crap...  Never.  I've not seen one UGH figure to-date.  I have seen Titanium UGH's though oddly enough.

I agree with that Hunter.  The DSG has me worried because I too want a nice hefty army of him.  He doesn't look to blow the old POTF2 Gunner out of the water either, so that's nice to still have a figure that "fits", but the new one is amazing.

I plan to display most of mine sans armor and use my POTF2 as the armored one in my displays...

Jerjerrod looks comical really.  More like a generic officer than Jerjerrod...  Not unlike the Piett figure who I don't think looks like Piett very much.

On a nitpicky note, it's nice to see them getting IMperial uniform colors right finally, and doing so routinely.  Ozzel was all wrong, Tarkin and Motti weren't quite perfect (though Motti's close), but Piett, and now Veers and Jerjerrod seem spot-on to their colors, so that's a major plus to me.

I'm still disappointed at the levels of articulation in 2006 though.  It ain't 1983 here...  Can we get some knee joints? Even simple hinged knees are better than nothing at all.  It's a tad lame of Hasbro, especially with the crappy prices we're dealing with.

I'm ok with it too overall but the price is iffy...  That's what gets me the most.

Still, obscurity means you don't generally want much more than one of each depending on your collecting habits.  So the price is a little easier to swallow because of that...  If the set was $30 even though, it'd be much better IMO, and I'd likely kick in for a second one.

Anyways, I'm glad the images are being scoured over by our readers.  The packaging on that is pretty spiffy actually, and something different.

A brighter color would be in order I think Legois...  :)

And the Greatest Hits stuff really has me interested now after seeing Wave 2.  I'm in for some of those.  I'm wondering if the Preview Wookiee is just the Preview one or if the paint will be different in some way?

Be nice if the 501st was different to some extent too but oh well.

I think they improved.  Much better choices the 2nd time around.  Ones I"ll buy.

A fixed Bly would be nice though since he's been a pain to find.

Jared is owed some kind of royalties from Hasbro because he can make any POS look incredible.

Not that that Obi is a POS, but let's face it nobody wants to pay $7 for a fabric cloak for their Pilot Obi's they already have.

Now though, I want that Obi-Wan...  It's perfect.

Jon, I agree about feeling cheapened...  Plus, they're droids we already have, and not exactly exciting color choices.  Neither did much in the films, though to Q5's defense he'd be perfect for the Death Star obstacle course. :)

An R5 would be nice though...  Still these appeal to me because they're something vastly different than we're used to, and at this point astromechs are tough to improve upon...  You almost have to go the gimmick route, so I'm ok with them as is.

I still have to order these new ones if I want them...  With how nice R2 is, I really want the set now, but an R5-D4 would be appreciated next time just because.

The sandtrooper suddenly looks more appealing by our early shot of him...  Part of me wishes they were cheaper for customizing fodder. ;)  The Fett head and rifle are nice but at $15 that's pushing my boundaries of what I'm willing to spend to just get bits and pieces to duplicate.

Bossk and IG-88 are my certain buys though...  WHy Bossk you ask?

Because Trandoshans gets all da ladies...  Jockin' the Wookiee's and slappin' the ho's.  That's livin' Trandoshan style.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Casting of the Twins - wip
« on: April 12, 2006, 05:03 AM »
Well, the RTV Silicone mold will break down, and eventually, after so many uses (depends on the quality, etc.) it'll start sticking to casts and tearing...  My first mold I made was a POnda Baba head (few undercuts, nice and rounded, etc.).  I probably pulled 50 casts from that mold in practice and after a while, a blue piece was here and there stuck to the casts...  It was part of the inside of the mold.

The release agents are just something that helps the mold last longer...  If you're pulling hundreds of casts, which you may be, it's useful to an extent...

The only thing I've used the vaseline/gasoline mix for is to keep halves of a 2-part mold from sticking together while making the mold...  This is just a brief rundown of what I mean for those unsure...

-I make my mold box and fill the bottom with sculpey III, and with the head (or whatever) inside the clay HALF way.

-I fill the mold box, covering the OTHER half of the head that's exposed out of the clay, with Silicone...  It cures.

-I remove the clay and turn the cured silicone half of the mold over into the mold box so it's now on the bottom...  The exposed half of the head is facing up now instead of down before.

-I then put the THINNED gasoline/vaseline mixture over the top of the silicone (not the head, though it doesn't matter if it gets on there so long as it isn't thick and distorting the details of what I'm trying to cast).

-I pour more silicone in the mold box filling it up again....  It cures.

-I demold, and the gas/vas mix keeps the two halves from sticking.  They separate perfectly...  The head doesn't have to be "worked" out of the mold, so there's no risk of stretching the mold or losing detail there...  It's pretty perfect, just more work, and generally used for parts with sharp undercuts and complex designs.

Congratulations on 3 years Justin.  I'm not sure how many I have now...  I forget when I came aboard and walked away from all the crap I was dealing with elsewhere.

SD gets Comic Con, they're already spoiled.

Pittsburgh has nothing...  We need this, and we have a brand new downtown (or as we see here, Dahn Tahn) Convention Center...

You guys haven't lived till you have eaten a Primanti Bros. Sandwich.  Long live putting everything on the plate onto the sandwich.

Since some of these are showing at TRU I may get some of the 3-packs...  The one with Covergirl looks nice, as does the Vietnam one.  The Sigma Six stuff isn't selling around here, so I'm glad to hear basics are back to some extent.

I was wanting to pick up some of those single-carded figures too, I hope they're out and about.
