It sounds like there will be a Sphero version of BB-8 for $150 this September.

Yeah, I'll be buying this.
My boys loved the Hasbro Interactive R2-D2 back in the day... in fact my 3-year old loves him now. Carries n conversations with him as he beeps and whistles at her. She will definitely love BB-8. :)
-
That's going to scare the **** out of my dog!
-
Sphero is still not saying anything about BB-8 but here is the box for it. You control it via bluetooth on your phone.

He has been found at Best Buy for $149.99

Sounds cool. For some reason I was thinking there was supposed to be a more "actual size" version of BB-8 coming out, but both this and the Target ones are smaller.
-
This one is q-ball size just like the regular Sphero.

I agree. I might wait on this too.
-
It looks pretty cool, but it's definitely on the small side. The hosts of the Global Unboxing were playing around with one on set and it looks nice.
-
What exactly does it do? I want one, but I might get bored with it pretty quick.

At 12:01am ET tonight, I'll be able to put up the press release Sphero sent... but it works a LOT like the existing Sphero toy (http://www.sphero.com/sphero) if you want a hint at some of the basics.
I'm really looking forward to it. I've had a chance to play with one of their Ollie (http://www.sphero.com/ollie) robots and it was a very durable fun little robot. EAsy to control and very mobile on the street, hardwood floor, concrete driveway, carpet, etc.

Sphero Press Release:
Meet BB-8 - the spherical, loyal Astromech Droid of Resistance pilot Poe Dameron. The app-enabled BB-8 is as authentic to the Star Wars galaxy as it is technologically advanced. Set it to patrol and watch your Droid explore autonomously, make up your own adventure and guide BB-8 yourself, or create and view holographic recordings. BB-8 has something unlike any other robot - an adaptive personality that changes as you play. Based on your interactions, BB-8 will show a range of expressions and even perk up when you give voice commands. BB-8 is more than a toy - it's your companion.
The BB-8 App Enabled Droid by Sphero will be available starting Force Friday in the US at:
• Disney
• Sphero.com
• Apple
• Brookstone
• BedBath&Beyond
• Best Buy
• Marbles
• Sprint
• Amazon

I have the Sphero BB-8 on order, this droid is selling out fast... seems to be the toy of the year! ;D

Where did you order from? Is it $150 pretty much everywhere? Disney was already sold out on FF as well.
-
I heard that even Bed, Bath & Beyond had these. Downside to that, though, is that you couldn't use those 20% off coupons for BB-8.
-
I ordered it from the main site for $149.99. It's still showing add to cart. Just saved me the time of running around to places that are sold out & finding other online sites that are sold out. BB-8™ by Sphero (http://store.sphero.com/products/bb-8-by-sphero)
-
That would have been a nice cost cutter! I had $100 in Amazon rewards, so back-ordered one there.
-
I found about a dozen of these at a Brookstone store by my office today.
-
BB-8 from Sphero arrived today but I am sending it back. The cost when I ordered was $149.99 plus $25.00 shipping for a total of $174.99. They charged me $206.07 US as they added a fright cost of $31.08 which was not mentioned when I ordered. >:(
That is $268.27 CDN, **** that! I can get it from Chapters.ca for $189.95 CDN & free shipping. A difference of $78.32 CDN.
-
Who'd you order off of Dale? That's horse **** they didn't mention that additional cost.
-
Main site, Sphero.com. They shipped it via FedEx which is fine but I still may get a letter for custom charges on top which is normal with them. Still...
-
Yikes... The whole thing is odd, but hey at least it is returnable I guess?
Shipping to Canada used to be a lot easier... WTF happened?

Ah, that's not that unusual when using FedEx or UPS to ship to Canada. All manner of hidden charges including BS brokerage fees that are entirely unnecessary. Remember that Master Replicas Collector's Society Darth Maul mini-saber y'all paid about $50 for? Yeah, after all was said and done with FedEx my total hit about $150. Absolutely no way will I use a courier service to have stuff sent here. Ka-frikkin-ridiculous.
-
There's a company up there sells the 1/16 RC tanks I buy and they use couriers like that... explains the insane mark-ups on shipping I guess. :-\ They have good stock but I won't buy because their shipping is astronomical and I can get it from Asia cheaper... seriously.

Cracked open my BB-8 droid today after it had been sitting on the shelf at home for a month. Pretty fun little toy. I'm hoping its durable as the kids really dig it.
I had planned on waiting until the day of the movie premier and surprising the kids with it, but my 8 year old son called me today at work and said his technology teacher showed the kids the school's new BB-8 droid. They've got a bunch of other Spheros they "learn" with at school, and I guess they added a BB-8 to the lineup.
I wasn't about to let some grade school teacher trump me on Star Wars fun, so we fired it up and sent it rolling around the house. (Eat that technology teacher).
My five year olds picked up the navigation of it quickly as well.
Should be fun if it can hold up.
-
I actually got BB-8 for Christmas. I'm really enjoying this toy here.
-
Finally got this up and running for my son. I was sorely disappointed to find that he couldn't get the ap for his Kindle. >:( We have a shared I-pad for the family that he is using instead, but would be far more convenient to have on his own device.

Someone's getting a new iPad!

I finally recorded my own first message with BB-8 last night here.

Seriously, it has been taken over. This BB8 is pretty cool though. We're loving it.

You're in luck. They are making a wearable controller (http://gizmodo.com/a-new-wearable-lets-you-control-spheros-bb-8-using-the-1750989688).

That looks awesome. This is a must have.

One of the best kind of toys from The Force Awakens indeed.
-
New feature added today. You can now watch the movie with your BB-8. There are pop-ups on the pohone identifying characters when they come on screen, BB-8 will act surprised during action sequences and look away when something scares him.
My 5 year old thought it was pretty cool. I agree with him! :D

So you have to be watching the movie on your phone/tablet?
-
No. I think the phone or tablet picks up the sound of the movie and BB-8 reacts. You just have to have the app on and BB-8 on his charger.
-
Daily Deal at EE today will get you Sphero BB-8 for $117 with free shipping too (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=SPHR001USA&id=JE-405087801)!

Finally caved on this thing for $95 yesterday during Amazon Prime Day. Should be here tomorrow. I have a little bit of buyer's remorse, but I'm sure I'll wind up loving it.

You're in luck. They are making a Star Wars™ Force Band™ by Sphero (http://gizmodo.com/a-new-wearable-lets-you-control-spheros-bb-8-using-the-1750989688)

Star Wars Force Band by Sphero for $79. US. (https://store.sphero.com/products/57c4764ff1f752110066c4d2)
-
I saw the ad for the force band a couple of days ago. I might have to pick this up! :D
-
I used the Target coupon and bought the force band thinger. I haven't spent too much time with it, but its kind of neat. Not sure it was worth the $80 retail price.
Its got a bunch of app interactive games on there and you can mostly control bb-8 with hand motions. I might need more practice, but its a little crude to control for me at this point. The kids absolutely loved it though. They loved learning the hand motions and pretending to use voice commands to bb-8 like they would a dog.
-
Question for those who have the Force Band...do you still need to run the app on your phone or does it control BB-8 independently?
-
If I recall you need the app to enable the Force Band, but once you get it set up, synched, etc., you can just use the Force Band to control BB-8.
-
There's a new update to the app that dropped today. Now BB-8 will watch Rogue One with you.
-
Does anyone know if the walmart interactive R2 interacts with the sphero BB-8?
-
I don't think so. They are made by two different companies.
-
Sphero is now making a BB-9E and R2-D2. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwEkC2w4fcI)
-
I don't know much about the sphero stuff but the Jedi wrist link thing was only $20 at Walmart this weekend here. 1/4 retail isn't bad so I got one. 🤷♂️ Maybe I'll buy a droid some day.
-
I received the Sphero R2-D2 for Christmas and it is awesome! It's in scale with the BB-8 so it's pretty much in scale with any 1/6th scale figure. I'd love to see some comparison shots with the Sideshow R2-D2 that came out a few years ago. I love that the sounds are internal so it doesn't need my phone to make noise like the BB-8...my only gripe about the BB-8. There are also some preset moves/reactions that are great...especially the "shot by the Jawas" one that has him fall over!
If you were on the fence about getting one, I'd say go for it!
-
Man I want one of those. I got the wristband thing to control it for like $20. You’re tempting me on this even more. :-\
-
I found a setting that when their idle and on their chargers, they will interact with each other. As I type this, R2-D2 and BB-8 are having a conversation!
The BB-8 sounds are coming from R2-D2 as well!
-
I need to get that wristband. I got BB-8 on clearance and was kind of disappointed in it since it doesn't work well on carpet. It's basically a big paperweight for me
-
I ordered R2Q5 tonight because F it, it was only $100 at Best Buy. And my buddy has R2D2 so I figure why not? I wanted this for Xmas but apparently I’m too old for toys, or so I’m told. Often.
I’m kinda curious if they’ll interact.
-
Can you operate all three independently if you've got three phones/tablets? I've had BB-8 for two years, but my three kids would probably get a kick out of racing all three around at the same time if I picked up R2 and BB-9E.

The app has an interact feature where you can set it to interact with humans in the room, or with nearby droids. BB-8 will interact, but it cannot initiate the interaction.

If you have three devices, you can control all three independently, the app can only directly control one droid at a time.

I received and e-mail from sphero stating the new app can have all three droids in patrol mode simultaneously.

If you are more of an OT purist:
R2-D2 is only $99! (https://store.sphero.com/collections/daily-deals/products/r2-d2?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Star-Wars-Price-Drop-3-Last-Visit-Feb&utm_term=Price-Drop-Last-Visited-Before-Feb-28-2018)
-
I saw some posts from Fantha Tracks about these turning up in UK clearance outlets that are affiliated with TJ Maxx/Marshalls. It might be worth taking a look at your local TJ Maxx if you want to get one of these droids on a budget.
-
Sale on BVB-8 and R2-D2 today. R2 is $79 and BB-8 is $59. Head to Sphero's website if you are interested!

Sphero discontinues licensed Disney products, including BB-8 and R2-D2 (https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2018/12/17/18145283/sphero-disney-deal-licensed-toys-bb8-r2d2)
-
That stinks....but I can see why they are making the change. Might have to get one of those Lightning McQueens soon.
-
I ordered a BB-9E last night for about half off. I've been wanting some of these droids for a while. And I'm continuing to wonder if these might turn up at some of the closeout chains like TJ Maxx since BB-8 has turned up at the UK equivalent chain, TK Maxx.
-
I found R2-D2 at TJ Maxx for $49.99. I'm hoping I can find BB-8 or R2-Q5 for reasonable prices.
-
Found a BB-8 at Target for $29. The price wasn't marked on the shelf and didn't show up when I scanned it in the aisle, but it showed up on clearance at the register. If you're able to find one in stores, it might be significantly discounted...
