New Rancor Pit set is coming

Rancor Pit looks decent.  Just not sure I'm willing to dish out the cash for Jabba's chamber or palace or whatever they call it plus this set.

Loving the Hoth set and Rep/Sith troopers.

As confused as ever on teh A-Wing being routinely put out there.  Must be one popular ship. :)

That Rancor set will go nice with the new Jabba sets out now... not sure why they're putting another Hoth set out there, a Snowspeeder and AT-AT (and all those older Hoth Trooper/Snowtrooper packs) are enough for me.

Don't think we've had an A-Wing since 2007. This one at least has Ackbar in it.

Saw 2013 SW sets at my local K-mart, before they even got Hobbit sets in. :(  I was hoping to nab some of those on their B1G1 last week.

Anyway though, yeah, got the Republic/Sith Trooper set because it was cheap and 4 minifigs.  Very tempted on the A-Wing as i want the new pilot and a Han is a nice addition to the minifig shelf since my last one was yellow.

I loved the new sets.  Very nice.  Lego still a dominant SW licensee

Sigh, I can never see those tiny Lego pictures well enough.

Can someone with young, fresh eyes please scrutinize the picture of the AT-RT set and tell me if that is an Umbaran soldier packed in? All I can see is some kind of brown blob that might be a battle droid but maybe not.

If so, I can officially proclaim LEGO to be one million times better than Hasbro. I would KILL for one of those guys in the Clone Wars line...

I saw at two different TRUs today:

- Clones vs Destroyer Droids
- TOR Sith Troopers vs Republic Troopers
- AT-RT
- Z-95
- A-Wing

Prices were ridiculous, even by TRU's standards. $30 for the A-Wing and $55 for the 300-something piece Z-95. ::)

I do believe they're in the Mobile Heavy Cannon set (since it's Umbaran based), not the AT-RT.

I can imagine, and the licensed stuff is always higher, but still...  TRU is nuts.  K-Mart is even the same as everywhere else and on toys that's not always a guarantee, so it's frustrating to see TRU really hammering home that they are the new KB Toys with the constant inflated prices.

They have sales and all, but it almost becomes a matter of principle not to buy.

Do I sell off my old Barge for crazy money in anticipation for the new one?  I've never done this with LEGO before....quite happy with the old version personally - same boat with the new Gunship...
Title: Re: Lego 2013
Post by: TheSon on December 31, 2012, 10:41 AM
IFett, now that the new versions have been announced the price of those old sets should fall a bit. The barge looks different, based on the first few pics I would say I prefer the one you have. The gunship really seems about he same.
The nice thing about Lego is you can almost always get at least your money back, so if you like the new minifigs better sell and upgrade. If not you have two fewer items to buy this year, it's a win win.

Rancor Pit looks decent.  Just not sure I'm willing to dish out the cash for Jabba's chamber or palace or whatever they call it plus this set.

To sweeten the deal, according to the notes on the TRU website, the rancor set will attach to the bottom of the palace set and make that working trap door actually really cool. They did do a nice job with the palace though. My 8 year old is only half way through the build, (I so badly want to help), but the details are nice. They even have the droid ball that pops out of the door to greet R2 and 3PO.

Also it looks like the Hoth set that is not available for pre order from Amazon will be a TRU exclusive, so be prepared to overpay if you want the probe droid to complete your set.

Title: Re: Lego 2013
Post by: Rob on January 4, 2013, 04:02 PM
I had seen a picture like that, I also saw someone's photo where a section of the pit (a swinging door?) was opened up a little and the tower was resting on it.  It really needs another section down there to support the tower so it can keep being a tower... maybe something with EV-9D9 and some busted up tortured droids.
Title: Re: Lego 2013
Post by: TheSon on January 4, 2013, 04:08 PM
The tower is connected with 3 posts, so you could opt for the hanging on look or just disconnect it and place it where you like.

The palace trap door and sliding throne for Jabba are sweet. I just wish it was bigger for 100 bucks, but it is still awesome.

Add a cell for Chewie and Han to reunite in and I am out another 60 bucks.

And while we are at it, a stage with Max Rebo's band, even though I think he will be included in the new barge.

I'm playing catch-up at the moment with the 2011/2012 sets, so I'm holding off on 2013 sets for now - but last night I picked up the AT-RT - what a great set.

I think if I see the Umbaran (sp?) canon set, I'll grab that too - all I see in my local stores is an empty shelf space.

The rest of the sets, so far at least, seem to be plentiful.

First look at 2nd Half 2013 sets from Toy Fair (http://www.hothbricks.com/2013/02/new-york-toy-fair-2013-les-premieres-images/)

75015 Corporate Alliance Tank Droid
75016 Homing Spider Droid
75017 Duel on Geonosis
75018 Jek-14's Stealth Starfighter
75019 AT-TE
75020 Jabba's Sail Barge
75021 Republic Gunship
75022 Mandalorian Speeder
75023 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar

The figures in that Geonosis set are awesome! Not much I'm interested in though, I still have the original Gunship and AT-TE from 10 years ago and would only be buying them for the minifgures at this point. I also have the original Sail Barge, but I'll snag it on sale somewhere I guess since I'm down to OT only for LEGO.

Toy model of Jabba The Hutt's palace resembles a mosque, group says (http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/04/01/17552848-toy-model-of-jabba-the-hutts-palace-resembles-a-mosque-group-says?lite)

So many things absurd here.

1. Based on a movie, not any real structure.

2. The Hagia Sophia mentioned as a "mosque" was built as a Byzantine Eastern Orthodox Christian basilica and remained one for 1000 years until the Turks conquered Constantinople, enslaved most of its population and desecrated someone else's house of worship...am I being culturally insensitive by mentioning actual history?

3. Jabba the Hutt isn't muslim or of any earthly faith.

4. It's a freaking  space fantasy toy.

You might think that, as it was written by "Carlo Angerer".

But it's not an April Fools joke. This story originally broke a couple of months ago. Lego just now decided it was not worth the aggrevation.

Anyway, Lego was discontinuing the set after this year, as they often do. Just wonder if it become some "scarce" collector's item because of this.

Priced right around what Orthanc is in the LOTR line, so if you want to draw a comparison that thing's like 3 feet tall (albeit one big spire).  That means an Ewok Village could be 3 trees at a foot tall each maybe? :)

Been looking at/drooling over this set all weekend, checking out the pics and video with my daughter.  I've gotten more and more into LEGO the past couple years, particularly this year with the big Hasbro drought, and I have to admit this is awfully tempting.  Not sure I could afford this one most likely, or if I could I'd be tempted to put the money towards the Death Star set, but I'd sure like to.  Really nice set all around, and LEGO is just so consistently putting out greatness.  Between SW, LOTR, Marvel, TMNT, and Harry Potter, we've had a lot of sets enter the house this year - and it has been a lot of fun.  Might have to figure out some way to get this one, we'll see.

I'm struggling with the giant Ewok Villiage, as I struggle with most of the expensive playset environments.

I've been putting together all of the sets (nearly all) that I've acquired over the past 15 years with my 5 year old son and for the most part he is completely uninterested in Star Wars playsets.  He wants vehicles and things that look more action oriented.  Although he does like the City playsets (fire station, etc.)

The only SW playset that I've managed to get him interested in is the Death Star, but even that has been languishing half built for the past month.

$250 is a lot of scratch.  I'm still struggling to pull the trigger on Jabba's Palace for half that price.

Who knows, maybe my son will eventually get interested in the SW playsets when he gets older, but right now I would probably rather spend the $250 on City playsets.

What does your son think of the play action with the death star?  Mine doesn't sit and play with his often, but when he does he loves moving the guns and doors ans elevator, etc.  I think he's more interested in the Ewok Villiage than Jabba's palace just because he didn't care much for that part of the movie (not a big fan of most aliens just yet).  I like where Lego is going with a lot of the play action to their sets, but I'm in the same boat as you with wondering how much my kid will actually play with it.

I think the hardest part with my son is getting him to agree to open a playset.  Right now we've got several dozen unopened sets and when he compares his options he'll almost never pick a playset.

If we do pick a playset, he does enjoy putting it together and playing with it.  He did like the smaller Ewok/Speeder Bike set, and does like the elevator, spring loaded guns, etc. on the Death Star.

So, let's say a guy was going to pick up that Ewok Village set for his kids this Christmas.  What recent Endor sets would you guys recommend going back and tracking down now to go along with it?  Just thinking about grabbing them now and stashing them in case they go OOP by the Fall...

Here are a few Endor theme sets:

(7128) Speeder Bikes
(7657) AT-ST
(7956) Endor Attack
(8038) Battle of Endor
(9489) Rebel Trooper & Imperial Trooper Battle Pack
(9679) AT-ST Driver & Endor Planet set

Yeah, I don't think any of those are available in stores anymore, although a few of them recently went OOP and can be had on eBay without breaking the bank too badly.

That endor bunker set is really nice.

I still see the Bunker and that one set with some warriors, traps and stuff, here and there.

If you have K-Mart stop in...  Or Sears Grand.  They sometimes have older sets hanging about.

Also, check toy shows and Craigslist.  For some reason, Craigslist has old Lego sets on it here all the time.  Not REAL old, but OOP and for retail or even less, probably bought on sale and wanting full retail now to net a little $.

The local Toy Show has Lego guys hanging around now all the time too, so I imagine any you guys have in MN would be similar.

Lego Star Wars IS indeed the superior Licensee at this point.  Sideshow's a close second with Hasbro (when they're making anything) close to SS I think.  Both those have heavy flaws.

I think if someone only was into Lego Star Wars stuff, they'd be a happy as hell collector though.

Honestly Jeff, with all of the stuff coming out in the Ewok Village, you're pretty much set on Endor stuff. The only other sets you would really "need" are the Battle of Endor (with the bunker and an AT-ST) and the Endor Soldier Battle Pack (which is still shipping to WM/Target/TRU). The Battle of Endor is out of production though, but since it hasn't been out that long it's only around $50 over MSRP online.

The other sets are older and I guess would have exclusive Ewoks if you're into that.

I saw Jabba's Sail Barge at TRU this weekend for the first time.  They actually had all of the newer sets in a LEGO feature section at the front of the store, except for this one, but had the Sail Barge back in the regular LEGO aisle.  I have to say, I was mighty tempted, but didn't really have the money (and should wait until it shows up at Target/WM anyway).  Pretty cool though.

Usually those displays are sent back to LEGO. I've read stories about managers giving them away and LEGO reps heavily fining them for it.

What Diddly said...  That's the case on most displays actually unless the retailer specifies otherwise.  I suppose maybe they give them to employees or just destroy 'em?

I had no idea it was new or I'd have mentioned it at the time but I saw it last week...  that, the Mando ship with the Maul mini, and some other stuff began just popping up all of a sudden.

I knew it wasn't stuff I'd seen before but I figured it wasn't news since we're usually the ass end of distribution.

I'm holding off on getting the AT-TE or Gunship when they start the Clone Lieutenant promo. That way, I'll also get the VW Bus which will make for a great present to give that co-worker who helped me get the Holocron Droid...

TRU has an unadvertised sale on a bunch of bigger LEGO sets until November 23, with most of the sets being 50% off. Not much Star Wars related, but the Jedi Defender ship is $70 and the Battle of Hoth set is $30. I went ahead and snagged Hoth, which is actually a good price for what the set ultimately is. Make sure to price scan a set to make sure it's on sale.

Thanks for the heads up on the TRU sale.  I've sort of been eyeing that Hoth set for awhile now, and for $30 I was able to pull the trigger.  Between this and some clearanced LOTR sets, I'm getting a nice stockpile of stuff to build with our daughter in the winter months ahead :).

Ya that Hoth set - not feeling it even at 1/2 price...blah.  Still tons left at my TRU that didn't get sold.

I picked up my $35 Y-Wing though this evening.  Very nice!  Store was wiped out of them but I believe you can still fetch them online for a few more hours.

I grabbed the Hoth set and put it together with my six year old.  I would agree with Mike, even at $30 it doesn't feel like I got much of a deal.  I think $30-35 should have been the retail price to begin with.

I passed on the Y-Wing, even though it was a great price.  I just don't think its all that different from the previous releases that I already have.

Picked up the Republic Gunship and Jabba's Sail Barge on Amazon this week at 35% off.  Amazon has been having some really good sales lately, although their pricing seems to ping pong all over the place.  One minute its 20% off and the next its 35% off.

I got the Fury earlier in the year for about the same price off Amazon but still in a box.  Brick Show on Youtube - has some honest fan reviews...been following those 2 brothers for awhile.

Gunship was $77.99 yesterday for a few hours on Amazon but I hesitated too long so I got the $79 version at TRU this morning with the giftcard.

I got the Ewok Village for Christmas - and I finished putting it together today - what an amazing set!

I know it's $250 - but it's well worth it.

It's got some really great features and it was a lot of fun to build.

Definitely gonna have to save up for the Death Star now - would love to have another BIG set....

Do any of you guys know if the Ewok Village is some sort of exclusive to the lego store?  I've been saving Amazon points for awhile and was going to use them to buy it there, but it's only available for $100 more from third party sellers.

Does Lego typically restrict the larger sets from Amazon in some way for some period of time?

Thanks.  If it's going to have a shelf life of 2, 3 or even 4 years, is it likely that it'll be opened up to other retailers at some point or is Lego pretty firm on their exclusives?
Title: Re: Lego 2013
Post by: Dave on January 17, 2014, 10:59 AM
I think all of the "Lego Store Exclusives" have been made available to other retailers, although most are only offered online.

Currently you can buy the Ewok Village from Target.com for the same price (5% cheaper if you use a Target card) you can get it from Lego.com.

I'm sure at some point you will be able to get the Ewok Village at MSRP on Amazon, you just may need to wait awhile.  In fact most (all?) of the fall 2013 Lego Star Wars releases are only available on Amazon through 3rd parties for inflated prices (Umbaran MHC, Starhopper, etc.).  Not sure if this is a contract thing with Amazon that new releases aren't sold there for a period of time or what.

Perfect, thanks.  Every set for the last 3 years is in boxes waiting for me to have a larger room anyway, so I'm not in a hurry.  I'll hold out for now and see if it shows up at Amazon.  It'd basically be free for me if it does.
