Actually around me the DST Legends figure did ok... Not smashingly great, but ok. None were to be found when clearance came up or I'd have bought. Says something about it I think...
Plus the 2007 release was in one of the most heavily shipped waves, and he reshipped and reshipped... Did he pegwarm, or just get overshipped? I think that's something in this hobby that's largely been glossed over and ignored. I consider that a big issue these days when pegwarming/distribution/case assortments comes up.
I questioned that Legends DST last year too, in part because I felt he pegwarmed in 2007 at the time, and in part because I wasn't wild about the figure overall (It's ok to customize into something better but it is lacking). But I've rethought pegwarming a bit in the last couple years... I think, like the clean Clones or Sandtroopers and such, sometimes a character sees more overshipping in a short(er) time frame causing him to be a pegwarmer, rather than that he was a "natural pegwarmer" where he really shipped sparingly but still didn't sell.
I think I started thinking about that a lot last year when those Legends figures everyone hated were moving at Target... I noted it at the time, but I kept going, about once or twice a week, and buying a BD 2-pack... Every time I got one, I noticed new Spacetroopers and other new Legends, but also that the pegs weren't overflowing by any means, just always a new case replenishing. They went through a lot, DST's included for whatever reason. They weren't the best sellers, but ultimately I didn't find a single one on clearance either so I think they did alright.
I found more AOTC Clones and Hoth han than anything, at all retailers, on clearance... Han, who knows. But the Clone had basically himself or something very like him available all year... Maybe the DST just had enough down time that the Legends figure ultimately made a little sense?
