Title: AT-AT Driver Variation
Post by: aka DaBigKahuna on April 3, 2004, 10:09 PM
Is the scarlet red ensigna really going for this much?   Or is this just an unusually high auction?

Not that much.  AT-AT Driver - Vintage Variation RED insignias  (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3184384873&category=50274)

Check the bidders history, 2 bidders are having a battle over it.  ;)

I noticed that.  Have you heard of people bidding on friends item's or their own item's under another user i.d. to boost the sale price?

Yep, shill bidding!  >:(

Oh yeah, shill bidding is fairly common.  You see it quite a bit on McFarlane sportspick auctions.  At least the older stuff that retains some value.

I'm ever baffled by people that bid on auctions early and often.  Typically I bid at the last possible second after the price has been set, relatively speaking.

I checked there history & I see no shill bidding thus far. Yes, very common. Get a friend to bid it up or have multiple accounts & do it yourself. My understanding is when you register with eBay, you must provide a credit card number to open an account. Not like the old days when you did not have to provide that information.

Doesn't take much to apply for mutiple credit cards & have 1 for a major account & use the others for shill bidding or other fraudulent purposes.

Quite so.  All my toy purchases go on one card.  All other purchases go on another.  My wife has a third card.  Easy to do. :-\

I'm always happy to pay $20 for a MINT loose Tri Variant AT-AT Driver!  ::)

I guess it all depends on what you are searching for at the time? = I've often bid a little higher due to an item's 'MINT' condition too!

Thanks for the input and link to your pics.

So the scarlett red is the Tri version.  This is a blanket statement, were all Tri figures produced in smaller quantities?  Or does it vary based upon figure?

In this case, it sounds as though the orang/red version is an easier find then the scarlet red version.

Most 'Red Insignia' AT-AT Driver figures are the regular HK versions! The 'Scarlet Red' variant is certainly slightly harder to find though!

However... the 'Tri Variant' itself is yet another seperate version, that was pretty much exclusive to Europe and was found on only a tiny percentage of the actual Tri-logo cards!

Most 'Tri Variants' were obviously manufactured in far smaller quantities than the HK or Taiwan equivalents! Many are actually far harder to find than some of the Lili Ledy and Glasslite variants too! The 'Tri Variant' versions of the Imperial Commander, 'Snowtrooper' (known as the 'YPS'), Hoth Leia, Rebel Commander and IG-88 are actually pretty 'common'!

I did some research on Tri variants.  I still am unclear on this.

Is this a valid statement?

All Tri variants lack a COO?

The 'Tri Variants' made by PBP in Spain always have the tell-tale 'moulding scar'! Whilst the European released figures made in Macau have the 'Taiwan' or 'Hong Kong' area 'smoothed over', as they were later adaptions of earlier figures! (French releases often state 'Macao' on the figures themselves too!)

The early 'Pal Variants' are sometimes just 'Hong Kong' variants sent only to Europe! ('Orange haired' Luke Bespin is one such variant!) The Tri Squid Head figure can either have 'Hong Kong' or a 'smoothed over' area. In fact most are 'Hong Kong' examples moulded in a lighter plastic with the distinctive 'green tinted cape' and 'white skirt'!

Thus... it is possible to confirm that about 90% of European variants have no 'Country Of Origin'/'Place Of Manufacture' on them!

Though many other variants lack COO/POM markings too!
