Title: 6" Black Series Wave 4 (2014 Wave 2)
Post by: Jeff on October 10, 2013, 01:05 AM
From Hasbro Press at NYCC:  ROTS Anakin -

Am I the only one who looks at anything PT (even good stuff, and this figure looks good) and 2 seconds later forgets I even saw it? :)

I will say though, if I were buying 6" figs, I'd want Obi and a sweet (big) mining platform to go with this Ani.

This, along with the ROTS Obi-Wan coming out plus the base with lava/splooge from the Unleashed line could make for a great display.

Oh man, he looks TERRIBLE from the neck up, IMHO. Why does Hasbro fail so spectacularly at reproducing a decent Anakin likeness? Is this from the cut scene where Padme gives him a home perm? He looks like he used the low flow shower head from that Seinfeld episode!

I can't see how this would come from the same guy that did the Han sculpt, which is terrific.

Plus didn't they already show this guy off in Europe earlier this year?

I think that head sculpt is pretty awful. Pass.

Glass half full: Awful headsculpt and absolutely no interest in the character incarnation/figure aside, the inclusion of soft goods is a nice indicator of what we can expect from future figs in the line.

Since it sounds like Anakin has been jettisoned from Wave 3 (or is that 2014 Wave 1), I've spun off his NYCC debut posts into this thread since we assume he'll be the first figure in Wave 4 (or 2014 Wave 2, whatever you want to call it). ;)

Based on the Toy Fair info, it looks like it's confirmed that this wave will be...

1x Ep2 Clone Trooper
1x Ep3 Anakin Skywalker
1x Ep4 Chewbacca
1x carry forward figure TBD

Chewbacca looks amazing!  I will certainly be picking him up.

Chewbacca may be the most amazing figure I've ever seen in this scale. amazing. Cannot wait for him. I wonder if given what we've heard on Hasbro leaving the PT behind if these will be the last PT figures we see in this line.

Agreed, love that Chewie, so well done.  Definitely looking forward to that one.  It seems like the 6" scale in general was a pretty big hit of Toy Fair, pretty much everything shown looks very nicely done.  Any news on when we can expect this wave?

Chewie looks great, but I think I would have preferred a closed mouth.  Still, I'll get it if I ever find it.

Wow, so Hasbro's decided to go with the most ridiculous possible strategy and use their repack slot in this assortment for the ROTS Obi-Wan Kenobi. Not only is he already destined to be the pegwarmer-in-waiting of wave 3, he's also the most haphazardly painted of the three figures in that wave, so it's going to be a double-disaster.

Why repack a hard-to-find figure like Boba Fett or, Jebus forbid, a Stormtrooper, when you can exacerbate your self-created retail logjams?  WAY TO LEARN YOUR LESSON, HASBRO.  ::)

That is the new "Busta Move" action feature that they're including with all >6" figures.  I can't wait to see the new Running Man IG-88 in a future series.

Might just be a way to get him to fit in the existing box, assuming they're going to make Chewie to scale.  I wonder if they'll have a similar issue with Darth.
Title: Re: 6" Black Series - 2014 Wave 2
Post by: McMetal on March 10, 2014, 09:01 PM
LOL, that looks ridiculous! I thought they had already confirmed they would be doing special larger size packaging for Darth and Chewie? He looks much cooler outside of the box, that's for sure.

Thank God we will all get another crack at Obi-Wan.  ::)

I guess the idea of making the boxes bigger to accommodate him was... a maybe? Oh well. I'll be freeing the beast.

It's the running man variant packaging.

The new Blue/Black packaging has the same size box but with a larger window (http://www.jedidefender.com/gallery/files/gallery/Conventions/Toy_Fair_2014/Hasbro/Star_Wars/Black%20Series_-_6_inch/DSC_0102.JPG) (ditching the border).  Unfortunately for Chewbacca, we're not changing over until later in the year.

Anakin turned out surprisingly nice, and the Clone looks good. I'll pick both up if I find them with good paint apps. Chewbacca is rather disappointing though... the plastic seems too shiny, and something is off with the eyes.

It is going to change with the next wave and Chewie will be the carry forward.

The Anakin portrait that's on the body in the package looks great.  As for the other, Sith portrait?  Ugh.  It just doesn't look that good.  And some of the skirt in the packaged image looks like it's actually white.  I'm going to chalk that up to it being a promo shot and not an actual production sample.

Chewie looks awesome, albeit a bit strange in that pose.  It definitely looks like he's just too tall for the packaging.

As for the Clone?  It looks fine to me.  But figures like this Clone Trooper, the Stormtrooper and Sandtrooper all make me wonder how many repaints we're going to be in store for in this line.  This phase I Clone Trooper can potentially be repurposed for another 4 versions if you .  And when a phase II Clone comes along?  There are going to be loads of potential  repaints with those, too.  I get the feeling that this Clone is going to be like Pandora's box opening up.

Can't remember where as it wasn't one of my regular haunts, but one of the SW sites claimed this was pre-production.  There are also pictures of him with the brown skirt, so it makes sense that we will not be getting white.

Fett and Stormtrooper - IN!  (see, Hasbro does love you after all ;))

(subject to change)

Even though I managed to track Boba down at Christmas I may spring for this whole case.

Good deal, although I open all these things anyway, disco Chewie did seem to lack any dignity in that old packaging. And they managed to turn an otherwise lackluster wave into a winner. SO glad they swapped out Obi-Wan here. Easy case order...

Curious if they will drop the Stormtrooper from Wave 5 now...

That seems like a pretty smart move by Hasbro, it should allow a lot of people to catch up on these harder to find figures.

I'll be interested to see if the new figures, Clone Trooper and Anakin, end up being the pegwarmers in this bunch with the Stormtrooper and Boba selling through faster.

Post by: McMetal on August 18, 2014, 10:39 AM
This wave is totally MIA here, and pretty much every single retail location is drowning in pegwarmers, so I don't expect it to show up any time soon. I know it is early yet, but I still have a bad feeling about this one. By the time most of these places get around to ordering again we'll be on the Vader wave.

Took some quick shots of how I modified my 6 inch Clone Trooper, so that he can actually look up a bit and really bend his arm quite a bit further.

Have yet to see these at retail here in the US.  I did see a bunch of this wave while in Paris, but wasn't going to pay 25 Euros for it.

Of course, my local TRU got Wave 3 in already (Sandtrooper), so it's skipped a wave.

That's where I saw the 20+ Anakins, Clones, Fetts and Stormtroopers in Paris.  The outrageous price was enough to leave them behind (not including the long line).

I do hope Disney continues to stock 6" after they are clearancing out all the pegs of their Greedos, Hans and Leias.  I guess my fear is that Disney will think it's a poor line and quit stocking them.

I'm really surprised there has not been more of an outcry about this wave. I mean, it NEVER hit here AT ALL. Anywhere. If I hadn't orderd from Dorkside I'd still be looking for them.

I guess having 2 PT and 2 carry-forwards doesn't make it the most appealing wave but I still think it's super weird how this one ended up completely MIA. I get that this was the last wave in the "old" packaging but sheesh.

Just an FYI that Hasbro has discontinued this wave (and 6" Wave 1 finally), meaning they are taking no new orders and whatever is in the distribution chain is it for this wave.

If you haven't seen Anakin/Clone at retail yet and really want the black/orange packaged versions, you may want to go ahead and grab them from HasbroToyShop or another online shop to be sure you get them.
