Title: In Memory of Those Who Died
Post by: Darth Kenobi on September 10, 2003, 03:38 PM
Two years ago many of us watched in horror as the wrost attack on this country took place and thousands of inncoent people lost there lives.  It doesn't seem like it has already been two years since this day which for me started with me getting a little angry at my dad for waking me up so early (I had to be at work at 11 and asked them to wake me up before they left around 7).  I heard him saying something through the door about a plane crashing into the WTC which caused me to do two things at once, open the door and turning on my TV in my room, and I watched for a little bit in my room but decided I need to be with someone.  That day I said something which I think my grandfather said once he heard about the attack on Pearl Harbor which was to join the armed forces, he did( at age 30 or something higher) I didn't.  This day has made up my mind in what I would do if some idoit tries to Hijack a plane I'm on.
To anyone (on these boards/and else where) who lost loved ones my thoughts are with you as we appoach this terrible day.

Hey Tom, I was about to start a thread about this but you beat me to it.   :-*

I can't believe it's been two years already.  It seems like it happened yesterday.  When this was all taking place I had downloaded every picture that made it to the Internet that I could download.  I did that knowing these pictures wouldn't be available forever, so I have them uploaded on my personal website.  The page is a dedication/memorial to those people who have lost their lives on that tragic day.  Here is the link...

Truly a day none of us will ever forget and something I have been thinking a ton of lately...

Live Each Day to it's Fullest, Love Everyone As Much as You can and never forget the people who have come before us to make our country a great place to live...

I think that as September 11, 2003 quickly approaches, that we remember those who lost their lives in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.  It's not about politics, or anything on the left or the right.  It's about the people who died on those planes, at the Pentagon, and in the World Trade Center.  And it's also about the people who worked tirelessly to rescue and help others.

I know one firefighter who miraculously survived the collapse of one of the Trade Center Towers, sheltered in a stairwell with other firefighters.  I've known him since 1976, and I now hold him in the highest esteem for having run into that building in the hopes of saving some of the people in the Trade Center.  And I also know many families in my area that had people who never came home.

Have the politics of the situation been blurred?  Yes.  But the people who were lost should never be forgotten, and your memories of them should be crystal clear.  Always remember the 3,000 plus people who never came home.  Always remember the 343 firefighters who didn't make it out of the World Trade Center.

I decided to start it here after I bumped the one over at the scum and saw what it became so I came here where cooler minds are and figure that this won't turn into a conspiracy thread.  I worked until midnight on the 10th and while driving home listened to the radio which was talking about 9-11.  WHile listening to them descirbe a picture in the LA Times I ended up starting to cry and felt the way I day two years ago.  The picture was of some guy "in mid-flight" after he jumped from the WTC, I can't imagine listen to them descibre it what that guy and the others must of felt like, do I burn to death or jump a 1,000 feet to my death.
The firefighters who died that day are some of the ones I will be thinking of since I have wanted to be a firefighter and have some friends who are firefighter here in LA county.  After the first tower collapse the first thing I told my dad was "Oh my god, dad all of the fire fighter in there" or somehting to that regard.  That will be one of if not the worst day in firefighting history.
God Rest there souls.

2 years already, it seems just like yesterday.  I remember sitting there on that fateful day, doing what I'm doing now (on the computer at work).   At the time, I was sitting the furthest away from our receptionist and she was the first to hear.  Word spread quickly throughout the office.  I immediately switched from the music station I was listening to to an all news channel.  The rest of the day was spent listening to all the rampant rumors, constant updates and was also a day of reflection.

The scarest part of the day for me personally was when I received a call from my sister.  At the time, she was a flight attendant and was in the air when everything happened.  After she landed, she tried to call my mother and couldn't get ahold of her (she was running errands) My sister called me and told me everything was all right, she was OK, etc.  She told me what happened on the plane when every plane in the air was told to land immediately and the conservations between her and the other flight attendants and the pilots.  Let me just say that the whole thing freaked her out to no end and she quit being a flight attendant by December of that year.

God Bless America and may all the victims rest in peace.

A somber ride to work this moring as the radio station played the patriotic songs and shared stories of relatives, friends and strangers whos live drastically changed as a result of the actions 2 years ago. I have deep admiration for those men and women who came to the resure of all those in need, from the little old lady who donated a can of food to the firefighters who risked their lives with selfless abandon knowing they had little time to save the last person. My deepest sympathy goes out to all who lost loved ones in the 9-11 attacks and to those who continue to fight the war on terror.
 God Bless the USA
and thanks to all its supporters around the globe.

America is #1, Indeed.

This one is for all of the victims (and their family), firefighters, police, and rescue personel.

Quite a few brave souls.

Its been four years ago to the day that the world has seen one of the worst terrioist attack in the history of the modern world.  One of the saddest moments in this country's history and for me.  I can still remember most of everything that I I said in the first hour or so before the collapse of the towers.

All of those who died will always be remembered from the people who fought back on flight 93 to the many unkown stories of people in the world trade center who give up they lives helping others to the firefighters and police officers to the normal day person who died because of where they were that day.

One thing I kind of wish would of happen would of been the Alrington National Cemertary added an unkown crypt to the unkowns for those who died that day.  I was there in 1995 and our tour guide was saying how with DNA they will never be a need for more unkowns but many people were never id.  The remains of 5 people were buried in a unkown grave in the cemetary by the pentagon but they should of buried them in the Unkown area in my opinion.

Minute by minute account of attack (http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB9&Number=239428&Forum=f9&Words=Terrioist%20Attack%20On%20World%20Trade%20Center&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Main=239428&Search=true&where=bodysub&Name=27&daterange=1&newerval=&newertype=w&olderval=4&oldertype=y&bodyprev=#Post239428) from fromer CSW site (then Rebelscum).

I can't believe its been four years.  I will never forget holding my 1 week old son, celebrating the most joyous, overwhelming, wonderful thing that had ever happened in our lives and at the same time watching the most horrible, overwhelming, hateful thing that had ever happened in our lives.  God Bless everyone who lost their lives, who lost loved ones, those who gave their lives and those who work to preserve and defend our freedom.  May we never forget.  God Bless America.

I worked all day and didn't even realize it was the 4 year (for lack of a better word) anniversary of September 11, 2001. It was a sobering moment for me.

I remember getting to work and getting my lesson together that I was going to teach that day.  Somebody came in and told me to watch TV, so I flipped it on just after the second plane hit.

Within seconds, I knew it had to be a terrorist attack.  I walked out to my car and grabbed my cell that I had left there and called my reserve base and asked if they were needing anybody else when the upped the threatcon.  They said they'd get back to me.

A month later my entire security forces squadron was mobilized and scattered all over the world.

I can't believe it's been five years.

I remember coming home from the gym that morning and turning on the news.  The first plane had struck, and everyone was still trying to figure out if it was an accident or what.  Then the second plane hit....

What an absolutely insane period of time that was.

Anyone else watching the TV show with Harvey Keitel and Donnie Wahlburg?  I cought most of it last night (what can I say...I don't have Peyton on my FF team this year, so it hurts to watch him play), and I thought it was pretty good.

I'll leave the accuracy arguments out, because it's a dramatization, but it sure makes you think.

It's weird that Donnie Wahlburg was an NKOTB.  He was kind of a bad ass in the show.

I also thought it was funny that the dad from The Wonder Years played George Tenet.  I remember seeing pictures of George Tenet at certain angles and thinking, "Jeez, he looks kinda like the dad from The Wonder Years."

God bless those that lost their lives that day, and since.  And bless those that they left behind.

All I can say is what I said last year, only that I can't believe its been five years already.  I saw a story yesterday about the babies that were born after their fathers were killed on 9/11 and how they and their mothers are doing now.  Some of the children were born within hours of the attacks, while some of the mothers didn't even know they were pregnant yet.  It was very humbling to be reminded that while our lives have pretty much gone on as before, there are many people whose daily lives were forever changed.

I watched the one on CBS.  It was very moving.  It gives you a whole new aspect of what the firefighters went through and are still going through now.

Well no ****, it's got former NKOTB Donnie Wahlburg as a bad ass.

But still, pretty good ;)

RIP firefighter, police officers, office workers, airline pilots/strewds, passengers, military personel, who died that day.

Now that we have gotten some movies its scary to see what it was like being at the WTC and the other sites.  Oliver's Stones "WTC" showed something that I figure happened but for some reason thought maybe it didn't.  Seeing the rescue personel in taking care of the injuried in the lobby of tower 2 got to me.  I figured that happened back then but never relised how bad it actually was in reality.

Seemed like yesterday that this event took place.  On the  6th of this month I took a tour of the Pentagon which took me to the site of the crash there.  They turned that office into a shrine for all of the victims of that horrible day.  Sad to see the Death toll rise to 2,974 people with the addition of that one person who died of lung disease caused by the toxic cloud.  Wonder how high the toll will go up in the coming years. :'(

To the families and friends of those killed and injured on this day six years ago my deepest sympathy goes too you.

I went to NYC this weekend to visit family in Manhattan and was very surprised when my flight flew right over ground zero on the way into LaGuardia.

I guess they lifted the no-flights-over-Manhattan thing eh?

I don't think there was ever a true ban on flights over Manhattan.  That would kill flights to Laguardia and JFK.

I do know they had a no fly zone over the WTC site for a while, but I don't think that lasted a year.

Another year and you know I decided to read some of the news reports from 9/11/01, 9/12/01 & 9/13/01.

Those reports are so raw and so powerful and still do hold just as true today.

The part that still gets me are the children who were murdered on that day. The pictures of these bright smiling children and babies who did nothing to no one just break my heart. They did nothing wrong except to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

As a parent of three little ones my duty as a father is to love, teach and protect. Those parents were helpless. They couldn't have done anything to save themselves or their children.

How scared were they? All you could do as one of those parents is hold your child and comfort them in those final moments.

How crazy is that?

And what makes me mad is public enemy number 1 is still alive and producing propaganda while our government took its eye off of this ******* and went to war with the wrong enemy.

Those children and all those innocents died and we haven't brought those main criminals to justice. Capture Bin laden and his top people, bring them to trial, and then lock him up at the SuperMax for life and let him die a man alone and without hope.

I know, and being a father now, nothing in the world makes more more sick than the thought of something happening to my son... in fact, I was almost in a terrible car accident on the highway this evening as my timing belt broke and it sounded like me engine exploded... I lost control of my car, and could barely steer, the breaks would not work and I couldn't get gas - this all happened as I was passing a semi on the highway.  It happened to be less than 5 minutes after I dropped off my son back at the house.  When I almost got hit, all I could think about was "Thank God Kiefer's not in the car with me" because I honestly thought I was going to get killed for a couple seconds.  Everyone flying by me was going 70-80 or so miles per hours while my car loses all power.  I can't believe I didn't get smoked by that semi - if he hadn't been paying attention and hit his breaks in time, there's no telling what would have happened.

Hard to believe that it was 8 years ago that this attack happened.  At times it seems like it was just yesterday that our world changed.  RIP to those that died and god bless those who survived and the families of the ones that didn't.

ETA: One of the things that gets to me is looking at my nieces and seeing how old there are now compared to then. My oldest was 2 1/2 years old while the other one wasn't even born yet, my Brother in Law was at a police academy up north so my sister drove to my parents house and all of my family was watching the news, except my dad who went to his school that day. Watching the events with my niece in the room was a downer for me since I knew that she would never know what it was like before this day. She would probably be like me, and Pearl Harbor, towards these events not knowing the emotion of that day.
One day I need to save the first 6 pages of this thread so that it will be available for my kids in the future.

Wow, the last few years have gone by quickly.  I remember that morning well.  I was in my apartment in Seattle getting ready for work and a coworker called and asked me if I was watching what was going on on TV.  I wasn't at the time, but I turned on the tube and couldn't believe my eyes.  Shocking and crazy at the same time.  Never forget.

I remember that night here when it was announced, we ended up sitting glued to the tv till the sun came up, still gives me shivers.

One thing that i feel kinda weird when ever i watch a movie that has the towers still there, I get just a little sad, one knowing that they arent there any more and I guess more so because of the lives that were lost.

I hope they found peace and the ppl responsible rot
