Sorry about that alcoholism thing though.   ;)

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Concept Toys
« on: May 7, 2003, 07:55 PM »
I like this idea, but mostly on the nonhuman characters, since they're generally more unique and interesting looking.  But I also agree that I'd rather have new OT figures before any more of these are made.  But at some point, this would be a fun subsection for Hasbro to release, perhaps along with some more EU figures.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Silver Fett and Clonetrooper coming...
« on: May 7, 2003, 07:51 PM »
Another hard announcement to stomach here.  I've got the silver R2 and would love to get the Vader as well, but probably never will due to the cost.  I think the silver figures on the retro cards are actually pretty cool, but the distribution of them is what really sucks.  Hopefully the fan club can come through on this figure and hook us up with it, and hopefully in much greater numbers this time around as opposed to that Vader nonsense.

Why are they doing a silver Clonetrooper though?  That seems dumb.  I like the idea of these figures as being "retro", and therefore from the original trilogy.  Please Hasbro, don't start up with the silver treatment on the PT figures also!  In fact, let's just have the Boba Fett be the last one.  Or maybe just a Stormtrooper to round the set out, but that's it!  No more!

Other Collectibles / Re: Han Solo & Yoda Unleashed

I'm not much of a fan of this line.  Just a little too extreme for my liking, though it seems the OT characters are generally toned done a little more that the PT characters (except Jedi Luke).  The Slave Leia and this new Han are pretty cool though.  I might pick them up if I catch them on clearance.

Hey Darth Homer!  Welcome!  They might force you to spill the beans on your real name though, since that's what most everyone around here seems to use!   8)  Does add to the personal touch of the place though.  So what kind of Star Wars stuff do you collect?

Have fun, and I'm sure I'll see you around the boards here!

Snively here, but you guys can call me Grant, like most other people in out in the real world do!   ;)

And can I take a stab at what the "B" stands for?  I think I've got a pretty good idea.   ;D

Saga '02-'04 / Re: New Saga 4-packs: Love 'em or hate 'em?
« on: May 6, 2003, 12:59 AM »
I haven't seen these anywhere around Chicago, but then again I haven't seen anything new since November.

That's probably because they haven't been released domestically yet!  ;)

There's some of the typical early overseas pieces just now hitting eBay in the last week or so, so expect these to start hitting the States in about 3-4 weeks.  I like getting the extra accessories in these, but can do without some of the rehashes included herein, especially when they were very easy to find the first time around.  Zuckass was VHTF the first time around and definitely should've been in the Bounty Hunter set.   :(

The Original Trilogy / Re: the death of Obi-Wan...
« on: May 3, 2003, 11:35 PM »
Not to stray off topic, but what the heck happened to Kenobi's lightsaber? Is it part of Vader's hilt collection in his meditation chamber now?

One of the nearby Stormtroopers picked it up when Vader's attention was drawn towards the Falcon.  He's the one that's going to be released by Hasbro soon - you know, the McQuarrie Sketchtrooper with lightsaber?   :P

On topic, I've always just accepted the semi-official explanation that Obi-Wan just became one with the Force.  When the fans start asking too many questions about the how's and the why's in the Star Wars universe, we wind up with an explanation about damned Midichlorians!  So hush up fellas, lest George spend 10 valuable minutes of Episode 3 explaining the disappearing Jedi trick in scientific terms.   ::)

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The Official JD Movie Review Thread
« on: May 3, 2003, 11:24 PM »
For some reason we haven't gotten out to the movies in a while.  The last thing my girlfriend and I watched was Lord of the Rings TTT for a second time, which was obviously amazing, as I'm sure you all are well aware.

The last couple DVDs we rented though were Drumline and The Ring.  Drumline is basically Top Gun with drums, rather than fighter jets.  Entertaining, the usual storyline, with some great beats and amazing drumming (if you're into that kind of thing).  It's an enjoyable movie, but certainly won't be winning any Academy Awards.  I've just always dug the rhythm and beats of real drumlines that I've seen and heard at college football games, in parades, etc. so I had to check this one out.

The Ring was pretty freaky!  A suspense thriller, but not a gory horror movie like some might think.  Definitely scary though, so if you're into that type of movie, this is a must watch!

We're pondering checking out Identity in the theaters.  Has anyone seen that?  Worth a look?

Welcome to JD Muftak!  This is a very cozy and personal place I've noticed.  My choice to call home as well, friendly bunch and a few of these people even know a thing or two about Star Wars it seems!   :D

From one JD newbie to another - nice to have you here!  See you here in the forums!

Watto's Junk Yard / The Pirates of the Carribean Thread
« on: May 3, 2003, 05:06 PM »
Just caught this trailer again last night, and my girlfriend won't stop talking about how excited she is to see this movie in a couple months.  Needless to say, she kind of has a thing for both Johnny Depp and Legolas so she's very excited to see the both of them in action together.

As for me, I'm actually really excited about this flick as well.  Looks like it should be a lot of fun, and I've seen and heard that it's got some great special effects.  My family made a couple trips out to Disneyland when I was growing up, and the Pirates of the Carribean ride was always my favorite ride in the whole park, by far!  Loved that place!  Hopefully the movie is an accurate translation as to what they've got in the ride, because if it is, this will be a great movie!

Slightly annoying that my girlfriend has less than honorable intentions in watching it though, but I suppose many guys will be in the same boat as me in that respect!   :-\

Conventions / Re: Disney Star Wars Weekends
« on: May 3, 2003, 04:32 PM »
Does anyone have any pictures of that exclusive pin set, and how much it might be going for?  That's something I would really want, but I'm not going to pay an arm and a leg for it.

You mean these dustrho?   ;)

They had a news story about this here on the main page just last week.  Here's the link: Star Wars Weekends Collectibles Are Back   No idea what the set will run you though.

I'd love to go to the Star Wars Weekends, but it's just to far away for me and I'm currently saving up for an engagement ring for my lady so can't really afford to make the trip way down there.  Oh well, guess I've got to keep my real world priorities in check sometimes!   ;D

I've got a pretty nice HP Pentium 3 that I'm very happy with.  I hear good things about Dell as well, so that's a good choice also.  I used to have a Compaq several years ago and had a couple problems with it, so it's not a brand I recommend anymore.  Prices have dropped a bit in the last 6 months so you can can a real nice desktop for under a grand for sure.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Your DVD Collection
« on: April 23, 2003, 11:27 PM »
I haven't quite started my DVD collection just yet, but I am preparing to join the new millenium and pick up a DVD player finally.  I like to get pretty nice stuff when it comes to electronics, so what brands/models do you guys suggest I look into?  Any that I should avoid?

I just hope that George Lucas pulls his head out of his butt and puts the original trilogy out on DVD soon.  Absurd to have to make everyone wait this long.  And I want the original theatrical versions, in addition to the Special Editions where GL made some pretty lame changes.
