Title: What's your favorite scene from the prequels?
Post by: Snively Bandar on June 6, 2003, 08:54 PM
So we've got two prequel flicks in the bag now.  What's your favorite scene from these flicks so far?

I'm not such a big fan of the prequels myself, but I absolutely loved the final lightsaber duel in TPM between Maul, Qui-Gonn, and Obi-Wan.  That was awesome!

A couple of my other runner ups would be when Anakin goes berzerko on the Tusken camp (and his Swoop ride there), as he begins his turn towards the dark side.  I think this scene should've been just a tiny bit longer though.  I also liked when Anakin and Tyrannus were dueling at the end of AOTC - the parts where it was so dark that all you could see were the flashing colors of their lightsabers.  I guess those beautiful lightsabers are just really one of my favorite things in the Star Wars saga.

My favourite scene is from the end of the Episode One 3-way lightsaber duel, when Obi slices Maul in half. I love the way Obi draws his fallen masterís saber to him in mid somersault. Qui-Gon was one of the best things about TPM, and I was hoping that Obi would look after and carry his Masterís saber out of respect. Sadly for me, GL didnít seem to care about lightsaber continuity in AOTC :(

I know it was a bit lame of DM to just stand there and let Obi off him, but I love the look of surprise on his face and the burst of red at the bottom of the screen.

Probably the most breathtaking thing we've seen in any Star Wars movie to date....

200 Jedi brandishing lightsabers

So, Dressel Rebel's vote goes to the Arena Battle on Geonosis.

My favorite seen would be a tie between the Final Duel in Ep1 and the Arena Battle in Ep2.

I think they have him losing it in one of the EU books before AOTC happens so he still used it a while after TPM if you believe in EU.

I would have to say when Anakin slaughters all the tusken raiders :D.  I also think they should have made it longer.  It was pretty cool how Qui-gon shouted out "ANAKIN!" during the anakin's slaughtering 8).

Thanks Darth Kenobi, I hadnít thought of that. Iím glad to hear that thereís an explanation, but IMHO it would have been great to see something like that happen on-screen.

A few things, which I couldn't really pick apart to make a decision -

The three way duel between Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan against Darth Maul. Very good swordsmanship and overall showmanship on Maul's part, good overall display of Jedi/Apprentice partnership, and of course a nice finishing expression or two from Maul that couldn't have been any better.

The Arena Duel / Battle of Geonosis is up there, though I would have liked to have about 5 minutes of nothing but Clones/Droids battling alone without any lame actors in the way to hog the screen. Anyone who wasn't at least a tad happy with the battle sequence probably wasn't happy with any other parts of AOTC.

(adding more in the future)

I love the whole astroid belt scene in EP2.  I love the sound those seismic charges made, in the theatre, when they detonated.

My favorite scene would have to be the Arena battle, and a close second the asteroid belt.

Ditto. That was one memorable moment, possibly the best of the entire Saga.

- The Battledroid formations prior to the Battle of Naboo.  I liked the uniform way they lined up, their artillery barage as infantry marched towards the Gungan lines...   I honestly would've changed only how the Gungans fought, and Jar Jar's behavior in the battle...  Given Tarpals a little more time.  To me, the droids made that battle though, and it was reminiscent of Picket's Charge from Gettysburg with how the droids marched into battle.

-The moment Maul appears in the Naboo Hangar...  I still remember people getting totally pumped just because of how bad@$$ he looked standing there, then he ignites the sabre...

You can't top a moment like that, and how it got a major reaction from the crowd.

-The Naboo pilots...  Highly underused, and definately reminiscent of the classic films.  A shame that Lucas made the battle revolve around Anakin.  I much rather would've seen Anakin fly up, actually perform semi-well (natural ability instead of tripping into success), and see more of the pilots work in tandom with him...

Ric Olie could've been a new "Wedge Antilles" heroe had they taken the initiative to make him so.

-Yoda's moments with the younglings in E2...  There's something about how he acts in those moments that make him more like the Yoda in the classic movies than ever.  His calm demeanor with children, his casual playful taunting of Master Kenobi...

That's a "classic" moment that makes you appreciate Lucas a little more.  It's funny, but not over the top at all, and right up the mischevious lil Master's alley for his behavior as we've seen him act on Dagobah.

-Dexter Jetster...  I just like the character, so I like his scenes.  He's big, he's ugly, but he's unique...  I also like the idea Obi-Wan hasa informants that maybe aren't as scrupulous as himself.

-Watto...  Same as Dexter.  Great CGI character, definately a believeable part of Star Wars, and definately a testament to the skill of ILM animators.  Watto also embodies everything bad, but it's odd because you still like his character on some level.  It's like he's down on his luck come E2 and you feel bad for him with his dumb hat.

-The Senate...  I like how the Senate's designed/set up.  I think Lucas did a wonderful job with it, and I think all Senate scenes have been 100% solid.  They're the most boring from a story standpoint, and likely only kept the hardcore fan's attention, but they are definately well done.

-Oddly enough, and I know I'm going to catch it for this, but I like Anakin's breakdown in the Lars family's garage....   Hear me out here though.

To me, a major point of the prequals is the evil that is entailed with one's emotions.  I think that Lucas is showing in a not-so-subtle way (unlike the classics) that emotion is the root of all evil, but it's also the root of all good.

I like that about the prequals, and I felt that Hayden Christensen's acting was actually quite fitting (and good, because I think it was intended to be "overly emotional) for the theme.  His crying fit, his throwing things...  It's that little rumble of thunder underneath.

Not to mention he just slaughtered a tusken tribe completely.

-The whole "Search for Shmi" set to Duel of the Fates...  Come on, that was great.  Even stopping to ask some Jawas.  :)

-The Podrace...  Some dislike it, and it slows the story down for sure because it happens in the middle of a lull in the story really.  The thing I like about it is that it is visually one of the most complex CGI sequences ever.  It's definately eye candy though, and well done eyecandy to boot.

It adds a bit of excitement, but it still doesn't do so while adding to the story though.

-Various moments of the Battle of Geonosis...  I'd have redone the battle and it would've turned out MUCh different, but it does have its interesting points, and it's fun to watch.

I just still feel a space battle was needed, as was a more uniformed/structured ground battle.  I'd have definately not edited the battle down like Lucas did....  So what if it made the film a bit longer?  It needed to be, and in a hellacious ball of excitement like TBoG, I think nobody would've minded.

-Of course the asteroid sequence...  :)  Everyone likes the asteroid sequence.

I'm sure I have many other favorite moments too, I just am tired after writing all this other stuff out.

Hmmm, it's tough to pick one.  I'd go with the entire Maul-Kenobi-Jinn lightsaber duel at the end of Ep1.

That lightsaber scene was definitely one of the best lightsaber scenes in ALL of the Star Wars movies!  I also have a few other favorite scenes from the two prequels...

-- Naboo Fighters vs. Droid Fighters in space in EP1 (near end of movie)
-- Gungans vs. Battle Droids in EP1
-- Battle of Geonosis

Arena battle, including the fight of Kenobi, Anakin and Yoda against Dooku! How could you not like 100+ jedi and 100+ clone troopers have a 30 min. battle against 1000+ battle droids? The lightsaber fight was just pure sci-fi action, and anyways my most eager Star Wars quesion was ansewered, what color was Yoda's saber.

I think both my favorite scenes come from Attack of the Clones.

I love the part where Obi-wan gets the death stick seller to go home and rethink his life.

Yoda limping into the Hangar, opening his cloak, and drawing his lightsaber to his hand.  Then after saving Obi-Wan and Anakin, he simply limps over to them.

The Jengo Fett/Obi-wan battle was great too.

Yeah, that was tight.  I also liked the scene in AOTC when Anakin is lying in bed, sleeping.....hehe, he looks cool

My favorite scene from The Phantom Menace, is when they first introduce Queen Amidala, I did no expect her voice to be so Deep* as it was.   It was a little shocking.

My favorite Attack of the Clones scene was the Geonosis Arena - Jedi Battle. That was awesome!

I thought the scene when Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan went up against the droids on the control ship at the beginning of TPM was inspired, as were the scenes where Darth Maul was wielding his lightsaber - why Jar-Jar survived Ep1 and Darth Maul didn't remains a mystery to me...

ep1: the begining on the federation ship with obi wan and qui gon dispatching the droids.  and the duel with obi, qui and maul, and the duel of fates music is my favorite track in star wars!

ep2: when the clone troopers show up at the arena, and when they are getting ready to go to war at the end, very cool stuff with the music to go with ;D

MY favorite scene is in TPM, before Amidala cvotes to oust Valorum they do a clsoup of Palpatine and he juts looks like he's thinking "soon I will be emperor, very soon" that seen is so cool!

In AOTC my favorite is when Palpatine accepts the emergency powers and he says "I love democracy; I love the Republic" that is just a big lie, truly one of the more evil moments of Chancellor Palpatine's carrer

and also in AOTC when you see the Clonetroops marching out to battle, they go to shout of Palaptine and the loyalist committe looking out at the troops, Palpatine looks triumphate like he knows (and does know) that this end of the Republic and Bails bows his head slowly, like this Republic's Funeral

and aslo when Dooku and Sidious meet and the end, just for the fact that it confirms what may of us probally knew from all along- The Palpy was the mastermind behind the Clone Wars!
 Those are favorote scenes

Hmmm
EP1 has to be the light saber fight between Maul and Obi the sheer speed is mind boggling and it just looks so dam cool, the thing that upset me about mauls death was the fact that obiwan ahd done a flip over maul and tried to hit him and he flicked the attack away whilst getting up and then gets cut in half like a dufuss, kinda reminds me of boba fett, lucas made us think he was all cool and stuff and then he dies screaming like a beatch.
As for EP2
Obiwan to Anakin - why do feel you'll be the death of me
was pure magic a great line, The arena battle needed to go a little longer and maybe focus on some of the other jedi a bit more, i mean i was on the edge of my seat on opening night when i heard all those sabers light up i was in fanboy heaven!!

Besides the obvious three-way duel at the end of The Phantom Menace and the Arena Battle in Episode II, I also loved:

The Droid Factory
Anakin's breakdown in the Skywalker garage
The nightclub (well, at least some of the lines . . . 'Why do I have the feeling you are going to be the death of me?(

I loved the three-way lightsaber battle at the end of Episode I. It was the little things that made that battle. From the moment Maul appears in the doorway you know you're in for something special. Then when he draws back the hood of his cloak and you see all his horns for the first time...each time I saw it in the theatre, the crowd audibly gasped. Using the droid head to open the hanger complex door...good stuff. The little cocky stance after his quick exchange with Obi-Wan, shortly before Obi-Wan cuts his saber in two...magic.

The other moment no one seems to mention...the juxtaposition between Qui-Gon and Maul when the ray shield interrupts their battle. Qui-Gon meditates and calms himself in the force, while Maul prowls back and forth like a caged predator.

Another little moment...when Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan leap down from the castle overhang and easily dispatch the droids, the way Qui-Gon deftly hangs his saber back on his belt almost faster than the eye can follow. Oh, and where Palpatine says he will follow young Skywalker's career "with great interest."

Episode II: The entire battle between Jango and Obi-Wan on Kamino, including their war of terse words beforehand. Palpatine announcing "I will create a Grand Army...of the Republic..."

Mace falling from Dooku's box in the arena, on fire yet still deflecting blaster bolts all the way down. Jango's gun twirl after dropping Coleman Trebor. The evil grin on Dooku's face as he twists his blade around shortly before disabling Obi-Wan.

And finally, Yoda showing us all why he had the reputation of a "great warrior" in ESB.

-DD

As corny as this sounds...my favorite part of ANY SW film is the first second when the words "Star Wars" appear and the first note of the main theme is played.  I still get a chill EVERY time I watch it.

Agreed. This was the best duel of the entire series. It was well protographed, well perforemed and well edited.

The Opera scene in ROTS is comming in a close second to me.

I liked some minor stuff from E3 actually...  That film's really locked most of my favorite PT moments at this point.

Spoilers potentially are ahead, incase that's of importance to anyone at this point:

-The Clones supporting Ki-Adi Mundi's assault on that bridge on one of the most alien looking worlds.† THat's hardcore military Star Wars...† Their armor support takes a missle and is blown to hell, the battle seems fierce to say the least, and "Crimson Guard" Snowtroopers?!?!?† Fuggetaboutit!

-The Clone on Utapau that assaults the Crab Droid...† That guy's friggin' hardcore!† Hopping up on the droid and blowing the **** out of it by unloading a clip into its head...† That rocked.† That reminded me of the ARC's in the Clone Wars cartoons!

-Zett Jukassa whipping a little Clone ass...† Lucas's kid is lucky, and that's all I gotta say about that.

-The Federation Cruiser that explodes in front of Ani/Obi...† I love seeing that last shot fired from the Republic cruiser into the Fed ship, and it just breaks apart from the center, exploding and hurling pieces of itself into the opposing ship...† That's sweet.

-The ARC-170 crew being tossed into oblivion...† Sweet.† That's a "frame-by-frame" moment when I get the DVD and can inspect that scene.† I wanna see of the R2's floating along with them. :)

-Wookiee roar...† I like the Wookiees heading onto the beach.† They've got balls the size of church bells under that fur!† They're a tough lot.

-Kashyyk Clone's...† They look fantastic, and they are getting offed left and right.† I loved that whole sequence as short as it was, but the Clones stood out.

-Spider Droid in Water...† I LOVED seeing a "walker" (well, a walking droid anyway) march right out of the water like that Spider Droid did.† It reminded me of a Rogue Squadron level in the one game where Imperial walkers are marching out of a crash-landed Star Destroyer that's half-submerged on a shoreline.† The walkers plodding along out of the water into the surf on the beach.† Sweet.

-Grievous' funky walk to his bike...† I liked to see him act kinda like his "catlike" self in the Clone Wars toons...† I think he was a more badass character in the cartoon by far, but he didn't disappoint me in ROTS either.† He just didn't do a lot.

-Walkers Out The Ass!† There was an AT-TE Troop Transport variant, the AT-AP walker, AT-RT, whatever it was on the bridge with Ki-Adi Mundi and his men, etc., etc...† The Clones are decked out.† With EU slipping many of these Walkers into the Classic era, they're really "universal" vehicles to me now and as accepted with Stormtroopers riding in them/on them as they are with the Clonetroopers utilizing them.† They were great for the "military" nuts like myself.

-The Yoda/Sidious Duel & Ani/Obi Duel...† Spliced together well, breathtakingly fast action, and heart-wrenching moments in both...† My buddy who's a casual fan even left the theater saying that kicked ass.† I couldn't agree more.† It was Star Wars at its best to me.

-Yoda's force bitch-slap to the Royal Guards...† Every theater I've been in, even the uber-quiet private screening I was at, laughed at this moment.† It set the tone for that sequence.

-Yoda blocking Sidious from leaving...† That makes me smile every time.† It's the Yoda you KNOW he is.† The guy that doesn't take anything from anyone, and even Palpatine would've tucked tail from him at first.

Just a handful of moments...† ROTS is packed with great stuff, but the fact I can list so many little things that, to me, mean a lot when I watch that movie...† That's speaking volumes for how much I like the film.† I'm glad things went out like this.† I couldn't be happier right now.
Title: My favorite ROTS moments
Post by: Reid on October 9, 2005, 10:09 PM
ROTS Moments (In no Order):

-The Opening space battle

-Tarkin observes the creation of the first DS

-Order 66 Montage (Especially Bacara and his Snowtroopers offing Ki-Adi-Mundi)

-Seeing Bacara and his Snowtroopers (Mainly because the Snowtroopers look exactley the same as their OT counterparts and I like to think of Bacara's armor as Prototype Imperial Snowtrooper armor)

-Seeing those awesome Kashyykk Biker Scouts (Same reason as Bacara and his Snowtroopers)

-The Star Destroyer landing pad that Yoda goes to Kashyykk from (And all the small vehicles like BARCs and AT-RTs around the SD)

-The Obi/Greivous Duel

-Yoda/Palps and Obi/Darth Vader Duels (Need I say more?)

-Darth Vader and his 501st Stormies marching to the Temple

-Vader's slaughter of the younglings (I Love the way he hesitates at first, then ignites his saber)

- Anakin being knighted a Darth

- Palps's slaughter of Mace's Posse

- Any scene with V-Wings (Finally, a alphabet ship in the PT! Yay!)

-Seeing the first generation Imperial Officers

These are just some of my favorite ROTS moments.
