One of the most-anticipated games of 2007 has also been one of the industry's best-kept secrets--for the next two hours, at least:
http://www.rockstargames.com/IV/
Trailer at 5:00 Central.
-
Should be interesting.
Vice City will go down as one of my favorite games of all time...even though I never completed the damn thing.
-
Your main character:
Eastern European/Russian dude. I'm gonna call him "Yakov," at least for now.
As for the setting, let's just say. . . Moscow on the Hudson: The Game.
-
Just watched it...it looks like a really great city, but I'm wondering what the story will be about this time. I mean, I like all the standard stuff, but it'd be cool if they did something new with this game.
The question is...what could that be? Online gangs like Saints Row? That would be pretty cool.
-
I just caught the trailer, I gotta say OMG!! It is looking fantastic!! Wow, just wow!! I mean even if the gameplay is the same, I could care less, the graphics are simply gorgeous!! I mean did you see that car go over the pot hole cover?? It's as if I was looking outside m window or something!! I can only imagine the kind of **** I'm going to be able to do in this game!! :o
Now the only thing that would top this game, if we were to get GTA Vice City II!! Everything about that game came together to perfection!! The music, the backdrop, the graphics, the storyline, the music!! ;D I loved that game, and would love to see a part II with the kind of power of the PS3 behind it!!! It'd bring a tear to my eye. :'( More music and more tid bits of the 80's please!!!!!
-
Eh... it looked OK. It seemed like it was just a tech demo of the lighting system. I'm not crazy about the character models. The setting it Liberty City again.
-
Oh yeah, it looks like they were showing off the lightning, and perhaps a bit of the sound as well!! But it was nice to look at, I gotta say, the PS3 sure does make things look realistic!! I hate to think what the PS4 will do!!
-
Settle down, Beavis.
-
Your main character:
Do we really know he's the protaganist yet? I haven't been reading anything about the game so I'm probably out of the loop but for all we know he could be the antagonist, or even a minor character.
The trailer looks good though, I like how they made Liberty City actually look like NYC this time. Very much looking forward to this game.

There's still very little information out there to be had, but given the way he's presented in the teaser, I'd wager that he is indeed the main character.
-
Settle down, Beavis.
Shut up Butthead. ;D (http://pachome1.pacific.net.sg/~chinhow/butthead.jpg)
Hey I can't help it, Vice City was one of the greatest games that I ever played!! Funny thing is, I don't even own a PS3, so I may not get this game!! :P But if they announce a Vice City II, I will so spring for a PS3!!
-
You don't have to own a PS3 to play this game. It will be released for the 360 at the same time.
-
Shut up Butthead. ;D (http://pachome1.pacific.net.sg/~chinhow/butthead.jpg)
How did I know that was coming? Wow.
And yes, "ruiner" is right: GTA IV will be available for both the 360 and PS3. Each version will have it's own "exclusive downloadable episodic content," which should be a lot of fun for everybody.
-
Not sure if I will shell out the $600 to buy a PS3 for this game, but I will consider buying a 360 for it.

It's shipping to both on launch day, so looks like everyone will be able to play this one. I do know the 360 version promises to have exclusive content, but who knows what that means. Could be a downloadable mission, or something entirely different.
I do wonder which version they're showing in the trailer.

Trailer 2 (http://www.rockstargames.com/IV/trailer_splash.html)
*******************************************************************************
GTA IV will be available for both the 360 and PS3. Each version will have it's own "exclusive downloadable episodic content," which should be a lot of fun for everybody.
Maybe not:
Microsoft Pays $50M for Downloadable "Grand Theft Auto" Content (http://www.dmwmedia.com/news/2007/06/18/microsoft-pays-50m-for-downloadable-grand-theft-auto-content)
New York - Microsoft has paid video game publisher Take-Two Interactive $50 million for the exclusive rights to offer downloadable episodes for its "Grand Theft Auto IV" game over the Xbox Live Marketplace service for the Xbox 360.
Wired News reported that Take-Two confirmed the deal in conference call with reporters.
The retail version of the game is slated for release for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on Oct. 16; the first downloadable "episodic content package" will launch exclusively on Xbox 360 in March 2008, with a second package slated for release later that year.
Take-Two says that it currently only plans to release the downloadable content for the Xbox 360.
-
Delayed! (http://ir.take2games.com/ReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=258238)
Take-Two is reducing its fiscal 2007 guidance primarily to reflect the movement of the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007 to fiscal 2008, due to additional development time required to complete the title. The title is now planned for release in the Company's second quarter of fiscal 2008.
-
So it'll come out next Spring/Summer then. Interesting. I like that they're actually taking time to make the game perfect and not rushing it out just to compete with Halo 3.

I can't wait for this. That new trailer just made it a definate buy for me.
-
Maybe I just missed it, but were there any gameplay shots?
-
I'm sure some of the driving and fighting scenes were actual gameplay rather than just a cut scene/movie but we'll just have to see. I can't wait to pick this up with FU next year for my PS3!

-
I can't wait. I know there are some who could care less about this game but I love the series. I just wanna find the right establishment that has the better giveaway with this game.
-
What kind of give-aways do you think there will be??
-
The only one I know of right now is the EB/Gamestop limited edition that comes with a duffle bag, key chain, cd and safe deposit box.
-
That is actually a lot of goodies. Will it cost more??
-
Will it cost more??
But of course!
$60 for the regular, $90 for the SE.
Not an EB/Gamestop exclusive, as far as I can tell.

My bad I never checked anyone else so I figured it was just their exclusive.

Finally, some new information on downloadable content:
GTA IV downloads this autumn (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/29680/GTA-IV-downloads-this-autumn)
GDC08: Additional content for Xbox 360 owners to hit Xbox Live later in the year
Keen to publicise what is still believed to be an exclusive deal, Microsoft has stated that Rockstar’s downloadable content for upcoming title Grand Theft Auto IV will not arrive until the autumn.
Grand Theft Auto IV will be released on Xbox 360 and PS3 on April 29th, and could yet prove to be the biggest next-gen hit to date.
Not much is yet known about the DLC Rockstar has lined up for the game, though two separate ‘episodes’ have been previously mentioned.
It has been confirmed that the game will support online multiplayer on both Xbox 360 and PS3, though it is still thought that the downloads will be exclusive to Xbox Live.
And more:
GTA IV Exclusive Content Equal To San Andreas/Vice City (http://www.n4g.com/xbox360/News-114529.aspx)
So it Looks like Microsoft has finally announced what it's Exclusive DLC deal w/ Rockstar really means, according to Microsoft each episode of DLC content will be equal to the games San Andreas and Vice City for Ps2/Xbox. They have also stated that Digital Downloads will be the new way to deliver the GTA "Expansions."
So it looks like with this new announcement if you were planning on playing the Vice City/San Andreas versions of GTA IV the 360 is the Definitive version to get, with the first expansion arriving as early as Fall this year and the next one to follow-up in 2009.
GTAIV DLC
* When MS says exclusive, they mean that no other system can have DLC content for GTAIV
* It will be bigger than a lot of people think. GTA3 Vice City and San Andreas were basically expansions of GTA3. Think of the DLC that way. We are talking major expansion for GTAIV
* No price has been discussed yet. It’s up to Rockstar on whether or not they will charge for it
* If successful, DLC may be the new way to deliver GTA expansions
Sounds good. . . for 360 owners.

Rumor is that GTAIV is going to have 15 online multiplayer modes. If true that's awesome!

We discussed the DLC for GTAIV somewhat in the PS3 thread, but this is so big, it deserves a mention in it's own thread:
"Of course, to call games as vastly ambitious as Vice City or San Andreas mere 'expansion packs' seems childish, but nevertheless, the downloadable content (DLC) coming for the Xbox 360 version of IV has repositioned those games in just this way. DLC so far has meant the odd new car, jumper of bit of horse armour, but GTA IV is set to completely redefine the idea with expansions that are to GTA IV what Vice City or San Andreas were GTA III. Yes, Rockstar is clearly hinting at new downloadable cities; and the chances of them being London, Vice City or SA again are slim to none. So that's new as in brand new. GTA IV's Liberty City is the beginning. Think about that and be excited."
CVG: GTA IV Xbox DLC will be bigger than San Andreas (http://www.playthree.net/2008/04/cvg-gta-iv-xbox-dlc-will-be-bigger-than.html)
A new city, that's bigger than San Andreas? Wow. That's definitely something to look forward to. And I read something recently where the first guy to finish GTAIV wrote a review in which he said it took him 45 hours to complete only 60% of the game. Sounds like people will definitely be able to get their money's worth out of GTA IV.
-
That's awesome. I cannot wait to get this game.

One more week.

Four more days.

IGN gives GTAIV a 10/10 in EVERY category. (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/869/869381p1.html)
-
A friend on XBL is already playing this. I'm jealous.
-
thanks for the IGN link... I guess I'm gonna have to go for a PS3 in the coming month or two... meh.
-
Dude... it's a good thing. ;D
And MGS4 will be coming soon as well. Best gaming summer in history!
-
Picked it up at midnight. Played until 4:30am. Now I gotta wait until I get back home from work tonight to play it again. Stupid impressionable children...

Bring the game in let them play. What is the worst that happens, they go home and hound their parents to get a copy to play.
-
I was talking about my own kids. ;)
-
If I get it I'll probably let mine play... :-\ They played GT2 or 3 as I recall and the storyline/graphicness never even phased them. They usually just concentrated on beating it and then quit playing the game. I think kids exposure to that stuff is overrated somewhat. Not that I blame you for keeping it from them though either Bill, nothing but good comes from that I figure as well. Kids are just weird about games I guess and I find they usually care less about what they see and more about beating the game itself.
-
Picked up my SE version yesterday. I love it. The gameplay is alot better than San Andreas.
-
I had a GREAT laugh-out-loud moment last night. I was driving around, smashing into cars. I hit this SUV and knocked it on it's side, and just sort of sat there and held it sideways. The driver opened up the passenger side door, climbed out, stood up on top of the car and declared to the world in a roaring voice, "Now I am truly f*cked!"
-
I played at least twenty games of bowling last night trying to get a Turkey, and just can't do it. Anyone else gone for this achievement yet? I've been able to get two in a row a few times, but every time I go for the third I always leave one pin standing. Everything online says to use the left-most lane and take two steps to the left then throw as straight as possible, but nine times out of ten I just end up with a split. So frustrating! (Loving the game though)
-
Wasn't impressed with the bowling. Is there a way to get your ball to roll faster?
-
Pull back and then go forward in a quicker motion to throw the ball faster. I lost my game to Michelle. And I wasn't about to pay to play again. I just met the girl!!!! :o
-

You only have to pay once. It's not for every game. As for the Gobble Gobble achievement, I actually got it today. It was kind of a pain but the game is too much fun to get frustrated with.

So I was driving Lenny's car around after shooting Lenny. Fantastic car, BTW. I got into a few wrecks, as I pretty much always do. After a bit I noticed that my car wouldn't stay on the road. It kept pulling to the right, and I had to compensate by pulling my analog stick to the left as I accelerated. So I stopped, and swung the camera around the car to take a look. It turns out one of the wrecks badly bent my front-passenger wheel, so it was sitting at about a 20-degree angle from where it should have been. I don't know if that was a scripted thing, or if the engine was calculating the actual physics. If the latter... talk about awesome!
-
Thanks for the spoiler.
-
You never hear about Lenny before the mission briefing, and you don't have a choice but to kill him. So not much spoiler there.
-
Bad BillCable!!! Um....who's Lenny again?
-
Homer: The coolant tank just blew and they're taking Lenny to the hospital.
Marge: Oh, no, not Lenny -- not Lenny!

I'm not a big fan of the radio stations this time around. mostly b/c I don't any of the music. I usually turn the radio off when playing missions as to not miss any of the conversations.
My fav station would have to be WKTT tho. I lvoed the previous talk radio station on Vice City and III. The Richard Bastion Show had me cracking up and only took my wife less than 5 seconds to realize it was a Rush-knock off. ;D
I'll post part of the transcript in the Sarlacc Pit. here is the LINK (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=17342.msg368738#new) to the transcript.

'Grand Theft Auto' yields road to the 'Lost and Damned' (http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2008-11-19-gta-damned_N.htm)
By Mike Snider, USA TODAY
The upcoming episode of the video game Grand Theft Auto IV looks to be a wild one.
GTA IV, which was released in April for the Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3, focused on former Eastern European soldier Niko Bellic and his escalating life of crime in the boroughs of Liberty City. This new episode, available Feb. 17 via download exclusively for those who own the Xbox 360 version (no price yet), stars Johnny Klebitz, a member of Liberty City biker gang The Lost.
"Johnny is a very different character than Niko, with a very different background," says Dan Houser, vice president of creative development for Rockstar Games. "I can't go into too much detail on the story, because we try not to give away too much plot before the game is released. But I can say that the story will show you a different side of Liberty City."
The episode, titled The Lost and Damned, requires players to have the full version of the Mature-rated GTA IV (ages 17 and older) and an Xbox Live membership to download. It's likely to carry an M rating, too. (Parents can use the Xbox 360's parental controls to prevent children from accessing inappropriate content.)
GTA IV is the top video game this year; nearly two-thirds of the 5 million copies sold have been for Xbox 360, according to The NPD Group.
In the original game, Niko crossed paths with The Lost several times. This time, Niko has only a bit part, Houser says. "The story is not directly impacted by decisions you took in the main game," he says. But "tons of details and mysteries from the main story get explained, so it will add a lot of color to the main story."
'Damned' will offer hours of gameplay, not just extras
Rockstar Games has been fine-tuning its explorable 3-D virtual worlds since launching its first "sandbox" game with Grand Theft Auto III in 2001.
The new game will let you download more sandbox time. "We feel like we've only scratched the surface in terms of the depth and detail in" GTA IV's mythical Liberty City, says Houser.
Previous games have used downloads to add "new stages, weapons and costumes," says GamePro Media features editor Dave Rudden, "but GTA IV's content will reportedly add hours of gameplay."
Rudden hopes the episode costs $15 or less, but Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter expects a $20 price and says Rockstar could sell 2 million to 3 million downloads. "I see episodic content as a natural progression of the quality of downloadable content."

Anyone get the new DLC yet?
Joystiq reviews The Lost and Damned (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/joystiq-review-gta-ivs-the-lost-and-damned-dlc/)
I haven't, but I'll probably snag it this weekend. Finally finished the main game just a couple days ago, after not having played it since last summer. Figured I oughta at least finish the main game before I blew $20 on an add-on for it.
-
A year later but I finally picked up GTA4 a few days ago. I had some store credit at Game Crazy and the guy talked me into the Special Edition, which is pretty cool, so I ended up paying around $15 after tax. I just got to the part where Dimitri betrays you and you have to "start all over". Pretty fun game so far but I'm sure I'll like it a lot more once I get used to the new steering system.

New DLC - The Ballad of Gay Tony (http://kotaku.com/5270673/gta-iv-fabulously-expands-with-the-ballad-of-gay-tony)
Can't figure out if this is a joke or not but apparently it's legit. Coming (cumming?) Fall 2009.

1600 points/$20 for the new episode
$40 for the disc with Gay Tony and The Lost and Damned (does not require the GTAIV disc to play)

Anyone check out Rockstar's website today? :)

GTA5 in six days. >:D
