Title: San Diego Comic-con 2012
Post by: Phrubruh on November 1, 2010, 01:48 PM
Tickets where suppost to go on sale today. I've been trying for the last two hours but their server is crapping out as usual. Now they have a new message saying to check back November 8th for information on the new registration date. Currently the 4day memberships with preview night are sold out due to the onsite sales at comic con in July. 4day memberships without previous night are still available.

Comic-con 2011 will be July 21-24 at the SD convention center. I'd wish they just move it to somewhere bigger like L.A. or Anaheim or Vegas.

It looks like the stooges that run Comic-con's IT department have no clue what they are doing. Registration failes again. If it ever does come up, watch them raise the prices.

The monkeys over at comic-con registration are at it again this morning. They are having a registration test. There process is below. Well, I tried this stupid process and its yet another epic FAIL with a 502 Bad Gateway!!! Stupid.

On December 15 at 8:00am PST, 1,000 4-Day Comic-Con badges will be available by checking www.comic-con.org for a TicketLeap registration link. Each 4-day badge will cost $105.00 for Adults and $52.00 for Juniors/Seniors and will require a $1.00 non-refundable deposit and a $2.00 non-refundable service charge per badge paid directly to TicketLeap. You will only pay the deposit and service charge at TicketLeap when you make your initial badge request. You will pay for your full Comic-Con 4-day badge separately on the EPIC registration website.

For this test, an individual may request up to two badges only. If you request two badges you will be charged a total of $6.00, a $2.00 deposit and a service charge of $4.00, that will be paid directly to TicketLeap at the time of request. If you are among the first 1,000 people to request a badge, TicketLeap will send you a confirmation e-mail that will confirm the number of badges you are able to purchase. If badges are sold out when you make your request, you will not be charged anything for participating in this test. If you receive a confirmation from TicketLeap, but decide not to purchase a badge from EPIC, your $1.00 deposit and $2.00 service charge is still non-refundable.

After you receive your TicketLeap confirmation, EPIC will send you one e-mail for each badge confirmed by TicketLeap. Be sure to add registration@epicreg.com to your e-mail contacts or address book so your registration e-mail won't go to your SPAM folder. Check your SPAM folder if you do not receive an e-mail from EPIC within three hours after tickets have sold out on TicketLeap. The EPIC e-mail will contain your personalized registration link and additional instructions on how to pay for your badges. You are not registered at this time. You must log-in to EPIC and pay for your badges after you receive the e-mail. You will have 24 hours only from the time you receive your e-mail from EPIC to log in to the EPIC site and purchase your badges. The badges are $105.00 for Adults and $52.00 for Juniors/Seniors.

Because you have already paid a $1.00 deposit per badge, your Comic-Con badge will cost $104.00 for an adult badge or $51.00 for juniors/seniors. Additionally, as a thank you for helping us test this new plan we will pay your TicketLeap service charge so you will receive a credit upon check out at EPIC in the amount of $2.00 per badge.
Because this is a test you are limited to two 4-day badges without Preview Night only, but based on the results of this test we may set a different limit for future sales.

Along with your credit card information, you will need to provide a full name, address, phone number and e-mail for each 4-day badge you purchase. You may not register yourself for multiple 4-day badges.

We understand the inconvenience this process has been, but we thank you sincerely for bearing with us and taking part in this test which we hope will mean a better registration experience for everyone.

That's pretty cool man.  I think I'd be nuts by the end of the show if I was walking around in a costume though.

That's awesome!  Cool costume too.

I wore my Jedi costume all through C3, though admittedly that is a lot more forgiving than a Tusken outfit.

I used to sand blast and paint for 8 years at the biggest ship yard on the west cost,NASSCO.The mask is a not as bad as the sandblast ones and i made it out of a hard hat so there is room to breath. there is also a rubber tube from my mouth to the filter outside so i breath outside are. there is no need for fans but the next one i put together will have fans and tusken sound built in.

Here is another clip i found.

Yeah, I saw a set on Ebay a day or two ago for $20 or $30.  Way to profit off your freebies.

I saw this guy from San Diego that I had sold vintage stuff to in the past ask for 15 Fett fans and snag a wad of cardbacks. You'll be seeing the stuff on Ebay I'm sure. I couldn't even complete the cardback set and I was there all 5 days.I did get the Jawa on sunday and the Maul key and that's it.This years Con had a way different feel to it. I didn't enjoy it as much.

Well that was fun registering for this year's Comic Con.
The link in the email didn't work for the first three minutes. Then when I got in I was number 18102. About an hour later I completed my registration for thursday. Four day passes were gone in half hour while saturday disappeared about fifteen minutes later.

Yeah! That sucked  I had to go to the CC website and go in that way. I got Thursday and Sunday. I wanted Friday as it is Star Wars Day but it was sold out. I'm trying to get a PRO badge for the hole week but I don't think that will happen, I've sent them an email. I'll wait to see if the San Diego Star Wars Society will have a booth and try that route.
My daughter, Mara Jade wants me to put a mad face >:(

So who is going this year? There is a breakfast in Seaport village next door.

On Friday, July 13th at 7:30 am, Star Wars Action News will be hosting the 2nd Annual Star Wars Fan Breakfast! Last year I went to this and it was a small event, really laid back and I got to sit next to Stephen Sansweet so we talked about the Con and vintage collecting. Next table over there was Gus and Duncan signing their book. All in all, a highlight of the Con. Two days latter I ran into Stephen at the con and he came up to me and remembered my name, we hung out for about fifteen minutes the he said he will see me next year.Let's see if he remembers my name.

From here it doesn't seem like too many folks, solrac.  You and JACKOFTRADZE are going and offhand that's all I can think of.  I'm not sure if I ever would want to...  Such a nightmare of people from what I've seen!  I think I'd be overwhelmed, and overly annoyed. :P

San Diego mayor has approved a large expansion of the convention center to reach out to SDCC and keep them here. The surrounding hotels are now hosting smaller events and panels at their meeting/ball rooms. It has grown way out of hand and it is not as fun anymore, or I'm getting old and wish ( Like my wife) that it could be like when we fist met 22 years ago. The con was one of the firs places we went to as a couple 22 years ago and we never miss it.

I went to my first SDCC in 2007.  It was amazing in terms of how much was there, and the scope.  There were more people there than at any of the Star Wars Celebrations I had ever been to, and those shows are big.  I went back to SDCC 2 years later in 2009, and WHOA.  It just turned into this huge Hollywood extravaganza.  EVERY major movie studio with a comic or fantasy title on the way was there in a big way.  The original spirit of the con has turned into something else, and has definitely been co-opted by Hollywood into one of the biggest promotional events of every year.

The attendance in '09 was out of control!  One cab drive I spoke with said that the estimates on the number of people in town for SDCC was in the neighborhood of 200,000.  Walking the floor bordered on scary at times because it was simply a crush of people.  And good luck getting into some panels.

As for the facilities?  The San Diego convention center is really big.  But is it THAT big?  It's been a point of contention for several years now that SDCC has outgrown San Diego itself.  Especially with cities like Las Vegas hoping to lure Comic Con away.  Vegas definitely has far more to offer Comic Con attendees in terms of accomodations.  It's definitely an attractive option since both times that I went to the con I had to stay about 20 minutes outside of San Diego proper.  And that's a major consideration for a lot of people who attend Comic Con.  Las Vegas's convention center has monorail & bus service to and from most of the major hotels.  And Las Vegas also has a much bigger convention center than San Diego.

These attempts by San Diego to expand the convention center really do seem like a stop-gap measure to hold onto Comic Con.  And how can the city REALLY hope to increase the number of hotel rooms in the downtown San Diego area?

I just wish they had parking. My son and I will be there thursday morning in hope for a parking space. I'm not there for a panel. I'm there for the exhibits and the meet and greets with costumed fans. My five year old will love to meet Batman and Ironman.

There is plenty of parking and the shuttle service is fast. Park on pacific coast highway on the corner of Broadway and the parking is cheaper, the bus is right in front of the lot, It takes about five minutes to get to the convention center and they drop you off in front. Send me a PM that week and i can tell you where the best parking is.
