« on: September 1, 2011, 06:07 PM »
Hasbro has announced a new Fans' Choice Poll for Star Wars!

New Star Wars Fans' Choice Poll

We'll have details soon on how we plan to poll our readers to send into Hasbro.

This is pretty exciting stuff.  Can't wait to see who's going to make the top 20 list!

Feedback / Jimree's feedback
« on: September 1, 2011, 12:33 AM »
My buddy Jim picked up a few figs I had for him this evening.  I don't believe he has a Feedback thread going but he's picked up multiple items off me in the past since he lives fairly close.

Thanks man! :)

The Vintage Collection / Target Vintage Collection Luke's TaunTaun
« on: September 1, 2011, 12:24 AM »
The great mystery of Vintage Luke's Taun-Taun, and not having a rider...

The high-res shots really show how nice the saddle is compared to the POTF2 one.  Very slick.  Check out the new high-res pics

The deco isn't as hyper detailed as the Landspeeder, but it's sweet nonetheless, and those boxes are so tempting on their own even.

1:6 Scale Figures and Collectibles / 12" Scale STAP
« on: July 18, 2011, 03:02 AM »
So the Sidesshow Online Toy Fair revealed a bit more today!

1:6 Scale STAP...
http://www.sideshowtoy.com/?page_id=34575&ref=sdcc_interact

What better way to make a big ass display piece for your Battledroid figure(s)?  That's pretty slick.  I'm sort of surprised.

The video also says repaints are obviously going to be flying with the Battledroid...  Makes sense to cover the cost of that figure's tooling.

Really though, that's an awesome piece to make right out of the gate for the clankers.  :)

And the IG-88 tease is interesting too...  I hope he's 1:6 scaled and not a statue or anything.  Love IG-88, and Hasbro's figure gives me high hopes for what Sideshow can do in a larger scale.

12" Chalmun's Cantina Environment teaser posted...

It's a neat dual way to display it, which is cool so it's not just a one-sided deal, but part of me wishes it were a tad more complete.  I'm sure it's not going to be cheap as it is though so they're keeping the cost down, but I love the outside with the Sandtroopers.  That's pretty slick.

It's hard for them to top Yoda's hut, but they seem to be trying.

The deal of the day here...

12" Battledroid 2-Pack...

The Exclusive version is actually interesting, being the "1138" designation on one of them (unlike Gree who just has a stand).  I'm shocked for $120 they're selling 2 Battledroids though.  that seems very inexpensive.

They seem really sharp though, but the guns look a tad small to me.  Maybe I'm just too used to Hasbro's sculpt though.  It probably is a smaller gun as I know Padme looks a little off holding the battledroid rifle.  It looks like a cannon.

Anyway, this was the surprise of the day for me...  2 12" figures for pretty cheap.

Wow...  Yakface revealed this secret was coming and it looks really sweet.

I really feel the Clone prices have been fairly reasonable too, given what all they entail in development and production.  I haven't bought an armored trooper of any kind yet, but Sideshow keeps swaying me.  I keep thinking if Hasbro went up in price much more I'd just bail and buy Sideshow.  You get more for your money.

I love that they gave him his Clone Wars hairdid...  I kind of hope Hasbro changes their figure around to reflect that (I'd rebuy him for that change).

The Vintage Collection / Could Droid Factory Survive....
« on: July 9, 2011, 09:28 PM »
...In another form?

I was thinking about the "Build-A-Droid" pack-ins the other night.  Mostly about how much I missed them, ultimately, and how they were persuasive in getting me to buy figures just to finish a droid here and there.

But I was thinking too, how many droids can you crank out?  At this point it's rough...  I could see generic battledroids making it into the ranks, but will people care?  I can see some more EU droids or whatnot, but I was thinking maybe the "Build-A-_____" concept could live on in another way?

Build a Clone?  Build a Trooper?

Something where you could mix/match parts may go a long way too...  Clones, while having some color or gear variety, ultimately would mix/match well if Hasbro planned out the idea in advance enough.

They've not said BAD can't come back, just that it's on hold during Vintage...  At today's prices, getting something extra with a figure is about the only way to feel like you're getting a bonus or any bang for your buck.  Extra gear on a figure like the Gammie makes the price easier to stomach, but likewise you have a figure like Logray where $8.99 + is stickershock.

Is there room for the "Build-A-____" concept to grow beyond droids?

LEGO / Lego Kids Fest
« on: June 23, 2011, 02:40 AM »
Hey,

We were invited to cover the Lego Kids Fest event when it came to Pittsburgh's David L. Lawrence Convention Center last weekend.  I went down Friday afternoon for the VIP event prior to the show opening to the public, and it was insanely fun!

I did a write-up here you can check out:
http://www.jedidefender.com/newspro/fullnews.cgi?newsid1308809535,47107,

There's an extensive Image Gallery with the story as well, so the pictures in the story are only a small fraction.

The show is traveling around to different cities, so if you can make it to one, and you're into Legos at all (or have a little one that is), you'd do yourself a huge favor to check this out.

I had way more fun than I thought I would.  I was expecting to just cover the event, but wound up joining in on the Creation Nation build, and spending a lot of time checking out all the displays.  It's something to definitely check out if you're able to.

Gentle Giant / Gentle Giant Statues
« on: June 14, 2011, 04:01 AM »
Figured I'd start one just for statues to make it a little simpler as they come out to just slip them into one thread (like busts).

And with that, as per our front page, Gentle Giant announced a slick Episide V statue of Darth Vader!

The floor lights up, which I think is pretty neat.  Makes it more of a centerpiece to me, to have that going on with it.

Pretty interesting.  Seems a lot more tuned into a battlepack, to me.

So I was thinking the other day about this...

The Deluxe Figure w/Vehicle line is neat, and they are doing the Yavin Tech w/Sled...  Not a bad choice since people are into the set, but what about other "Original Trilogy" based ideas?

I was thinking about this more in the context of the "just off screen" designs rather than things that were actually in the movie, but really either one would be cool I think.

One I'd really dig seeing, from the movie, is the Hoth Speeder/Gun Platform thing from the cut footage...  It's just about the size for a Deluxe Figure w/Vehicle format I think, and a Hoth Trooper variation with it would be ideal (or Luke I guess, with maybe a more weathered deco?).

I was also thinking it'd be really neat to see an MLC-3 update though...  A modern sculpt of the cool tank design.  It's something I still pick up to use with modern figures, actually.  I just love the MLC-3 though, as a small gun carriage.  It reminds me of a Bren Carrier from World War II or something like it.  Rolling along with Fleet Troopers, giving some supressing fire when they need it.  A mini-tank.

I could also see Hasbro whip up a Rebel Speederbike with a unique Rebel Scout...  Not the McQuarrie design, something a bit more traditional and like the Imperial bike, or a Swoop perhaps.  Even a repainted Swoop sculpt they have like the Pirate Speederbike Bane came with?  With a cool Rebel Scout figure on there, it could really do well I think as an army builder.

I was thinking also that little "pod" type speeder from Mos Eisley would possibly work as a Deluxe Fig w/Vehicle...  Not sure who you'd sneak in with it, but it's OT based, unmade, and maybe could include some kind of Bounty Hunter character?

I just really would like to see the Deluxe line expand from the Clone Wars a bit and look at the Original Trilogy more...  the upcoming original designs from Hasbro are neat, and have inspired me a little bit to hope for some expansion of the line.

Gentle Giant / PG Ponda Baba Statue
« on: May 18, 2011, 08:22 PM »
As per our front page, GG revealed the PG Baba Statue with interchangeable hands via their facebook page.

Pretty slick looking.

That's a neat feature, the interchangeable hands.  Really cool extra.
