Watto's Junk Yard / Re: flowers delivery

Yeah, all good points.

I suppose I'm a bit more peeved (perhaps irrationally) just because I failed to get some flowers to my sister.  :'(

The flowers were a last-minute idea and I ordered them just before 3pm on Friday (which was the cut-off time for same-day delivery---guaranteed if ordered by 3pm). The messages they left were after 6pm and stated that they would like to arrange delivery of something different on Monday (not Friday, not Saturday, not even Sunday). So, even if they had gotten ahold of me on Friday night, they still wouldn't have been able to deliver anything on Friday...which is what they guaranteed and what I mainly wanted.

I don't deny that they're busy and doing their best, and I'm glad that I got a refund; however, I think they need to revise their same-day delivery guarantee. Either allow the customer to pick some alternate flowers in case the first choice isn't available, or state that something/anything will be delivered free of charge or severely discounted if the customers' choices aren't available. At least let the customer have the option of getting something delivered that day. I didn't have that option.

I do think it's a good idea for the future, though, to go local. My sister's in a different city about a hundred miles away, but I could've easily found a local florist close to the hospital (or maybe even in the hospital) that maybe could've gotten some flowers to her on Friday.

Do NOT order from fromyouflowers.com.

So, my oldest sister was unexpectedly in the hospital Friday, so I thought I'd send her some flowers. I found a place online that does same-day delivery, and placed an order. There was no contingency explained or other notices regarding if the flowers could not be delivered. I thought all was fine.

So, I have a load of messages and emails on my work phone and computer this morning from this place saying that they were unable to deliver the flowers and to call them back. And when I call them, they say that they were unable to find the exact flowers I ordered, so just didn't deliver anything. What the hell!?

Long story short, my sister never got any flowers. At least I was able to get a refund. Though I'm withholding judgement until after I see my CC statement.

So, again, do NOT order from fromyouflowers.com.

For the second straight year, my Sharks exit in the second round. I really had high hopes, but maybe next year. Too little, too late.

Good going, Stars. Stick it good to the Red Wings.

Just watched I Am Legend the other night. Really entertaining. For some reason, though, this movie just freaked me out. I was jumping at every little thing. It was getting so bad that when he and the dog went into the dark warehouse, I was actually turning away. And I never do that. Then I read about how the director kept a lot of the scenes silent, and I think this may have made many of the scenes much more intense for me.

In the queue for this weekend are Romulus, My Father and Shopgirl. I'll definitely be watching Romulus, but may not get to Shopgirl until later.

Finally, the Sharks put away (out, if insipid cliche is necessary) the Flames. That series was just too tough...for me. Jeremy-frickin'-Roenick!

And now, the Stars. This team actually scares me more than the others. Undoubtedly, though, great hockey to come.

One thing I'm not looking forward to is anymore game 7s at San Jose. I live about a block away from the arena (so close that people park in front of our house--which is permit parking only ::)--just to avoid the arena parking fee), and for a solid half hour after the game last night, the air was thick with honking horns and screams of "whoooooooo!" Plus, just after the game let out, I witnessed some asswipe in a Sharks jersey spraypainting some of the parked cars across the street. I guess I'll have to keep vigil over our cars for all future big games.  :P

Watto's Junk Yard / Netflix

Well, specifically, those with Netflix (or some other similar type rental arrangement). How many movies do you rent at a time? Do you just watch them casually then return them at your leisure, or do you plow through them like you're on a mission? How many movies are currently in your queue? How do you decide which ones to watch (queue management)?

I've got the two-at-a-time deal from Netflix, and have had it for about 6-7 years. I watch two movies pretty much every weekend, then send 'em back on Monday morning. Sometimes, if I get the new movies by Wednesday, I'll watch one that night, then return it on Thursday morning, which may lead to me receiving another new selection in time to view Saturday night. However, this doesn't always work. I think my preference would be to have at least three at a time, so that I could watch one each night on the weekends (Fri-Sun), but I'm too cheap to spend the extra couple bucks on the new subscription price.

As for queue, I've got 142 in mine, with another 20 in my saved DVDs list. And there's really no rhyme nor reason for my method of adding them. If I see an actor or director or song or whatever that appeals to me, I'll add the movie. I did add all the Academy-nominated movies this year (best picture, actor/actress, supporting, foreign, director, screenplays) so there's some method to my madness there. I usually won't read the reviews before I add movies, so sometimes it pays off, sometimes it tragically doesn't. However, overall I'm glad that I've seen movies that I'd never have seen otherwise. The one thing that has me stumped, though, is what movies to move to the top of the queue each week. If I just leave the queue the way it is, there's going to be movies that I really want to see now, but may not see for a year. But if I keep moving some movies to the top of the queue, others will continue to be pushed down and I'll forget about them and likely never see. It's almost like I need to have a marathon catch-up-type weekend, but that'll never happen.

Another weekend, another two movies.

First up was Into the Wild. I don't have enough good things to say about this one. I could relate to the main character, and all the supporting cast was great. I'd never really noticed Emile Hirsch before, but he did an excellent job.

Completing the recent Josh Brolin trifecta (No Country... and Valley of Elah, being the other two), I watched American Gangster. Fairly predictable, but totally enjoyable, nonetheless. Denzel and Crowe are worth the price of admission rental, alone.

Both movies were nearly 2.5 hours long, but I didn't notice one bit.

Looks like it was a great game up in Calgary tonight. I wish Calgary could have held the lead there and made it 3-1 in the series.
>:(  ;)

Finally, finally, the Sharks are starting to play the way they're capable. Both Marleau and Cheechoo are showing up and it's paying off. Let's hope they can close out the series on Sunday. Maybe see the Preds in the second round?

Just watched In the Valley of Elah and The King over the weekend. Elah was very good, and Tommy Lee Jones does an excellent job. It was also pretty disturbing knowing that it was based on a true story. The King was a bit disappointing in that I thought the character development was really lacking. I sorta knew where it was going from the start.

The Flames/Sharks series is just a revisit of the matchup between these two a few years back...and it's pissing me off. The Flames are unable to match the Sharks with skill, so they make up for it in brute strength. They're literally just shoving themselves to a win. It's old-style hockey and the reason why the Sharks haven't ever been able to go very far in the playoffs. If only they'd just get a little angry or something and start hitting more. It's just so frustrating. All the credit in the world to the Flames, though. To hit (and bloody) the Sharks' captain is akin to smacking a snarling dog on the nose. It sort of takes any fight out.

Come on, Sharks. Start hitting! >:(

Let's hope the Sharks can keep their momentum into the playoffs. They haven't lost in regulation since February 20, going 17-0-2 since. Scary good.

AL East - Red Sox
AL Central - Indians
AL West - Angels
Wildcard - Tigers

NL East - Mets
NL Central - Brewers
NL West - Arizona
Wildcard - Dodgers >:(

ALCS - Red Sox over Angels
NLCS - Arizona over Mets

WS - Red Sox over Arizona

The Red Sox are just too loaded to not be my pick.

Go Giants!

Damn. Just for the record, I did search for threads with "pizza" in the title.  :P

Thanks for the anonymous merge, though!  :)

Thanks, guys. I knew there was something wrong with it.

As for my favorite pizza, it's gotta be a simple cheese, tomatoes and basil made by a local chain by the name of Pizza My Heart. Oddly enough, they advertise that their pizza is "New York style." I guess that's the true NY style.

Yeah, I'm having some serious pizza cravings, too. May have to indulge later...but not at Rosie's crap-style pizza.  :P

The only things we save for the kids to watch again and again are children's shows such as Sesame Street, Between the Lions and Signing Time. The kids really like watching stuff over and over again. The other stuff we just watch and delete. I think our 80 hour tivo is about half full with just kids' shows.
