The Vintage Collection / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting?
« on: April 15, 2012, 06:16 PM »
They never seemed to order much last year in terms of vintage (which is why the stuff goes to close-out stores). Yet movie heroes languishes more, probably because public interest in Star Wars toys isn't that high. Front loading with old crap didn't help. Had they Naboo fighter out there and the new Movie Heroes out there in january...might have improved their situation.

THEY KNOW THE STORES ORDER/GET MORE OF THE FIRST WAVES. Heck, they base releases on it (no more opening with Yarnas). So they sort of  shot themselves in the foot.

But this is the company that short runs main movie villains (Red Skull) and henchmen (why aren't the warriors of Loki's whatever-they-are army on store pegs now...getting fanboy army-building sales before the movie's release?).

Those stinkers for years ago. Should've launched with more new figures.

I was looking  at Cloud City escape Chewbacca wit C-3PO parts today, and thought "if they made a Movie Heroes C-3PO wth light-up eyes, that might be cool, actually".

Even better if he talked. Hell, a talking Vader might be appeallng, as long it wasn't bulky.

Which is strange, because I've never ONCE considered getting that sound making R2-D2.

A better skiff would be nice. Don't want to wait 5 years for it. But even it was releases tomorrow, $30 would still be a bit much, I'd more likely wait for a sale.

I expect they will have vehicles for AOTC 3D if retailers are still interested, like that spider droid they need to make more money from, and the Jedi fighter redone with tool/cargo containers and no pop off wings.

Watch them make Slave 1 in AOTC deco the "BMF", too, with an exclusive young Boba and Jango Fett. No OT version for you!

I get the impression stores order less than years ago, especially vintage. So many places there's nothing in stock, maybe less than 10 figures. And Super Walmarts, that you'd think would be loaded, might have 2 cases worth if that.

Merge battle packs with whatever they are calling deluxe now and try to keep the price at $20 tops.

Speeder Bike/Scout Trooper and Ewok

Ewok Catapult/ 2 ewoks.

Escape Pod/R2-D2 and C-3PO

Wait...that's stuff people would buy. I mean, keep making that Naboo thingie in the same color over and over and charge $20 for it.

Yeah, price makes people more forgiving. I got some CW Mandalorian guards for cheap from overseas. They still suck but were almost not sucky at around $2 each.  :-\

I was surprised to learn their are 5 Below stores in this state...but given gas prices, by the time I drove to one, the figures probably wouldn't be worth it. It's all AOTC waves, isn't it?

I wouldn't buy a larger line or smaller one. Even buying better versions of old characters gets tiresome, a new scale...nah.

I only collect 3 3/4". And I'm pickier about that than ever.

Yeah, Kashyyyyk shorties they made didn't quite cut it... (even worse now that they new clones they are making are taller than the older version!) I almost liked the recolored ROTJ scout trooper better.

And with that vintage boxed AT-AP showing Kashyyyk troopers, I'm in the mood to buy more. Silly, Hasbro advertizing figures not at retail.

Packaged and new loose pics (not an April Fool's Day joke)

Yes, they really did  make Fett that big and Vader seems short...or maybe that's because Fett is too big.

One target said they were out of coupons but the cashiers had them, just to ask them what ones you needed to use. I got two items and the cashier rang up the coupon once. I said "You can't use it twice"? She said "they usually won't, let's see." Of course, it worked...I'd used two ad coupons early in the week.

Again, a simple 50% sale would've been better and cleared out gobs of merchandise, as I think most average shoppers were unaware of the whole deal.

Those rows of movie heroes and clone wars aren't moving, besides the crappy Maul and Oppress.

No order

10. Landing at Point Rain
9. Hidden Enemy
8. Lightsaber Lost
7. Clone Cadets
6. Arc Troopers
5. The Box
4. The Deserter
3. Rookies
2. A Friend in Need
1. Deception

Just to be a negative nelly, the 5 worst
1. The Academy (zzzz...)
2. Corruption (zzzzz....)
3. The Zillo Beast Strikes Back (may the Cloverfield be with you...should've been a one-parter)
4. Sphere of Influence (and we need a story about these characters because...?)
5. Altar of Mortis (I just pick the middle of that arc because it was an episode too long for what that arc amounted to, which was nothing...a wasted Qui Gonn appearance that could've been used for a cool flashback episode to pre-TPM era times...)

AT-AP ($15), Daulty Dofine ($4) and Clone trooper with BARC speeder bike ($8.50).

Glad the target sale is done...before I start "buying things because they are cheap"

I sent off for five earlier this week. Hope I wasn't too late. Damn procrastinators...

I doubt it, Hasbro is probably sitting on a butt load of the figures. Makes me wonder what happens to the extras.

The amount of space they take up is ridiculous; I need to cut the bubbles off mine. I just think the plastic should be recycled, but I don't have recycling picked up here...I'd have to pay to go to the center (it used to be free). Good way to help people avoid doing the right thing.  :(
