Watto's Junk Yard / Re: 'The Hobbit' movie
« on: October 18, 2012, 07:01 PM »
Yep, she plays a Peter Jackson made up Elf, Tauriel.  Although given the way the movies may break up into 3 parts, I suspect there is a chance that she might not show up until Part 2 and Part 3.  Of course, PJ managed to work Arwen into the Two Towers movie even though she never appeared in that book so I don't presume to be correct that Tauriel would be limited to only the later chapters.

I watched LOTR again about a month ago, and found it more difficult to enjoy this time around, as I had read the books not long before. Glorfindel getting bumped at the river for more Arwen time  cheeses me off.

The Vintage Collection / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting?
« on: October 12, 2012, 06:14 PM »

I'm a hoth luke and Dr Evazan away from thinking I'm 99% done with the retail figure game.

The next step is to figure out what I really want to keep for future displays, what the kids/nephews/nieces might want to have someday, and the rest will slowly be put up for sale or away in storage for a decision at a later date.

It's been a fun run, and I'll probably hang around and pick up an item here and there. I don't harbor any bitterness toward Hasbro- my collecting was going to come to an end at some point no matter what. Now it is time to figure out which parts to keep, and which to send to someone elses collection-

I found that Luke and Evazan, and have picked up virtually nothing since. I've been letting some things go, and intend to pick up the pace of decumulating. But I will always have some sort of small collection devoted to George's galaxy.

For me the change is more about my age, my kids becoming teenagers, and other interests of my own- not any decision the big H makes. I'm sure i'm not the first to reach that point, and I won't be the last. I'm still shocked by how much time and money I'm saving.

As I said this spring, no bitterness, it was a good time. And to everyone who is still enjoying it, I hope the line lasts a long-long time.

The toys are definately separate from the movies- I don't care for the prequels, but understand them for what they are. We all wanted George to make more movies, and while I don't love them like the originals, I'm glad they exist rather then never have gotten more movies.

And those movies helped launch our collections, because they provided the support to do such an incredible toy run since 1999. Before that POTF2 was explosive, then dwindled to clearance fodder. POTJ was pretty good, but pretty short lived. If the prequels hadn't come along, we wouldn't have these boards to be hanging out on talking about these toys.

I am in the group that at one point dumped everything prequel. The storage areas were overflowing, and something had to be done. But I wish I had an AT-TE and plenty of other items. The Clone Wars drew me back in, and I know I am in a small camp wishing those had been theatrical releases. I think they would have gotten a lot more mileage out of the toys that way. But even that I trimmed down to a single box plus the giant slave-1 sitting on top of it.

Some of the EU I really enjoy, others not so much. So I bought some of the former, and not the latter. I think a Clone Wars type version of the Thrawn trilogy would rock.

I've pretty much retired now, but I don't intend to not pay attention to the line. I'm sure I'll continue thinning the collection, and still picking up an item here or there. My parameters will be more scene specific for a potential display, rather than which movie or source it comes from.

Gentle Giant / Re: And The Mystery Ent. Earth Exclusive Is....
« on: September 9, 2012, 09:09 PM »
Hate to break everyone's bubble, but it is a set of Jabba's goons from the Special Edition Scene of Episode IV.

Don't even joke about that.  I would love a set like that so much that I would tattoo "I love Hasbro and Entertainment Earth" on my forhead.

Be sure to do it backwards so you can read it in the mirror!

Aren't there some missing mini rig vehicles? A young boba fett, and something else that seemed to have disappeared before arrival at retail?

JD Sports Forum! / Re: NFL 2012-2013
« on: September 9, 2012, 09:06 PM »
The refs were happily invisible for the most part in the NFL debut with the Giants and Cowboys, not so much today. I hope they get this settled soon. It was clear that on top of some bad and missed calls, refs were being convinced/intimidated into throwing flags late. The last I had heard, the two sides were like 6 grand apart per game. Raise the price of beer a nickel, cover the difference, and get this done before it has a lasting impact on the season.

The Clone Wars would beat the crap out of the PT in theaters. Whether it is 3D, 4G, or whatever.

I wish they would have saved some of the CW 3-4 part story arcs for theatrical release. Put one out every 4-6 weeks during the summer, and you would hit a lot more audience than the tv show- tv just has too many options. I would have loved to have gone with my daughter to see 3-4 CW movies over the summer. I didn't bother going to TPM.  I think theatrical releases would have kept the CW toy line much stronger as well.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Everything eBay! Scams, questions, etc...
« on: August 12, 2012, 08:23 AM »
I think ebay could be held liable to some degree even just for turning the other way when shilling is brought to their attention. They have policies against it, but a financial incentive (higher fees on higher selling prices) if it happens. I think they are probably monitored to some extent by FTC or other, agency that they are indeed enforcing their own policies. I would guess it happens from time to time on a small scale, they do something about it when it is brought to their attention with a suspension or what not, and they spend most of their efforts looking for the big fish that could really land them in hot water.

I think I got the last of mine today, and they combined them in to a larger box. The upside is they are in perfect boxes with no labels. The downside is I had filled some of those last forms out with my wife's name, my daughter's name, and even the dog's. I was looking forward to the little collection of personalized fett boxes. I guess the mando army grows some more-

Just in case Hasbro is reading:

# 1- Thanks, love these

# 2- I am more inclined to buy extra figures in the future if there is a mail away. Not for extra droid parts.

The Vintage Collection / Re: Brian's Toy Exclusive - Jocasta Nu
« on: July 20, 2012, 09:15 AM »
From Galactic Hunter's Twitter:

@GalacticHunter
The people who clamored to see Jocasta Nu made need to put their money where their mouth/keyboard is and order multiples. #justsayin

Claiming a "need" to support this is ludicrous. If I clamor for something in a $10 toy line, and they make it but charge 2 1/2 times the going rate, I am under no obligation to purchase one, much less multiples.

Would I expect a short run limited figure to cost the same as a retail purchase? No.
Do I think $10 is too much at retail, particularly with the line struggling to get out popular figures? Yes.

Normally I think Adam is spot on, but by the same logic as that tweet, anyone who wants a sailbarge is obligated to buy some MTT's. Because if the MTT doesn't move, the sailbarge can never fly.

I thought Jocasata was a good choice to be in the Clone Wars line. That is very different from saying I want one for $30 next February.

Shilling is definately a real phenomenon though- I had an auction a year or so ago where 5 minutes before the end of an auction my bid was pushed up to the max, passed, then the high bidder "canceled" the last bid, making mine the winner. It looked a little fishy, as the other bidder had only 1 feedback, from that same seller. I went back in to the 2nd bidders history, and found they had retracted multiple winning bids, and I am sure they were for the same seller. Long story short, they get a second account set up and used it to run up bids. I refused to pay for the item, explaining to ebay by phone it was very clear they had a case of fraud. I never heard about it again.
