Title: Defender Wishlists 2014 Discussion
Post by: Scott on May 6, 2014, 03:46 PM
Fear not gentle readers, we are going to do wishlists but we are going to make sure we capture post SDCC this year since our results got to Hasbro at Toyfair.  Plus, we have gotten a whopping two figures off of all of last years list.  We'll start with Phantom Menace again here in a few weeks. :-*

Let's just skip TPM, haha.  :P

TPM would very likely be a whole thread's worth of everyone copying and pasting their list from 2012.  And I foresee that continuing on for several more years.  That might go for AOTC and ROTS for a while, too.

Still, are we going to start with a REBELS category?  We seem to know some characters based purely on their upcoming figures.  Do we know enough about the characters in the series to even come up with an entire list?

I think we can do a Rebels list since we stopped TCW, another reason to wait post SDCC as we could do Rebels last right before Toy Fair.

Good call...

Rebels is a very good idea.  Unfortunately no Rebels vehicles list. :(  Cuz I know I'm gonna want a lot of that stuff.

Re: The Phantom Menace Wishlist -

I would probably buy more TPM figures if they make them (Kitster, Wald, Senators, pod racer pilots, etc), but if Hasbro announced they were never making another figure from TPM again , I'd probably be OK with that.

I almost...almost lumped the Prequels into one wishlist.  We might not get a "new" non resculpt figure for 5 years.  I can sure see them doing OWK and Maul and Jango etc but will we ever get Kitster?  Nope #retailpoison

Yeah, that's an interesting idea.  Strange to think that this could very well be the last TPM/AotC/RotS wishlists we ever do...   I suppose it's maybe the last one for the "Star Wars Legends" EU stuff too?

I would have been okay with lumping the prequels into one list... or even making it down to 5 figures each film, especially given Hasbro and Disney's (supposed) focus on the OT.  In several years time, the wishlist go go year-round. (Episodes 1-9, Rebels, EU, CW, Spin-off movies, 6", Champions).  That would be a headache.  But still, this is one of the things I enjoy about JD.

The other thing is we have gotten like 4 figures in 3 years total from the Prequels...the lists will be the same this year as last with some slight variations

I don't think you get enough differentiation with just 5 votes, I'd rather see one ten-vote Prequel Wishlist instead of three five-vote ones.

And I think Scott already said that TCW Wishlist was done and TCW would just roll into the EU Wishlist going forward...  though I suppose we need to talk about whether or not it's worth voting for "Star Wars Legends" characters going forward since their day seems to have passed as well (unless they are easy repaints or repacks of course).

I like the idea of a combined top ten for all the prequels. Not one prequel character cracked last year's overall top ten.

And it'd be less work for Scotty, too. All that extra free time could be used to finish up his abandoned Collect All 92 feature.

A quick question regarding the TPM list:  I saw a couple of entries for R2-G2.  When I googled that droid I came up with images of a droid that's been identified elsewhere as R2-T0 (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/R2-T0), which came in one of the WalMart exclusive Droid Factory 2-packs.  Is this a case of mistaken identity, or a call for a resculpt?

On another note, are we going to do a poll for the 6" figure line?

Nick I'll refer you to this

And there will be a 6" Poll

If Matt Coleman was still around, we could have a 0.5" pole too...  #theclassicsnevergetold

Another thought regarding this year's polls.  The Tournament of Champions is cool, but given the way a lot of the site leans we tend to see the ToC somewhat skewed.  So how about this?

Have 3 x separate Tournaments of Champions:
-Prequel Trilogy ToC
-Original Trilogy ToC
-Clone Wars / Rebels / Legends ToC

I think that might make things a little more interesting in terms of the results that get presented.

Re: Attack of the Clones Wishlist -

I will probably buy more AotC figures if they make them (unmade Padmes, Cliegg, Senators), but if Hasbro announced they were never making another figure from AotC again, I'd probably really only miss Cliegg.

Since we got Owen and Beru and Padme from the Moisture Farm scenes, not having Cleigg and his hoverchair is lame.  I still can't believe they haven't made him yet.  :-\

Not a ton from this that I want...  Cliegg would be among mine as well at this point, but really the refugee Ani/Padme were two of my big wants, and there hasn't been a lot else.

The separatists are dull, they've knocked out damn near every Jedi human I can think of now...  That one guy that tosses a saber to Kenobi/Ani is still noticeably absent I guess.  They've even redone all the Alien Jedi at this point, thankfully, to extraordinary renditions.

I can't think of a droid I'd want either...  Like TPM, AOTC is pretty much off my radar completely at this point.

Cliegg Lars is definitely one of the standouts.  In terms of the importance of the character to the plot and the sheer amount of dialogue he has, Cliegg is a solid candidate for a figure.

Aside from that?  I think more arena Jedi would be reasonable choices.  And I'd personally like to see some more characters from the Outlander nightclub.  But I think AOTC is pretty low on the priority list for Hasbro these days.

Actually, the two Jedi who toss the lightsabers in the Arena battle have been done.  Nicannas Tassu was done in the Target exclusive Arena 2-packs.  And Sephjet Josall was done in the TRU exclusive Arena multipacks.

Just looked over my 2013 list for TESB.  It looks like I finally have some open slots for some new characters!

Watched the REBELS episode "Rise of the old masters".  It was interesting to finally see the Inquisitor at work.  And not so surprising that he would use a Jedi Master as bait.  But I definitely appreciated when the Inquisitor was able to determine from Kanan's fighting style that he was a student of Depa Billaba... which gets to my point in this thread!  Seeing how Master Billaba factors into Kanan's story, I think she's a prime candidate for the Episode I figure poll.  So if you haven't voted for EPISODE I yet, vote for Kanan Jarrus's Jedi Master - Depa Billaba!!!

Decided to return the Tonnika Sisters to my ANH wishlist this year...

In the end, it's probably a wasted vote but part of me would really like to know if Disney LFL will be as stubborn about them as George LFL was.

Picking 4 new characters for my TESB list was a little more challenging than I thought it would be.  Whether or not Hasbro gets to any of my new TESB choices is another thing entirely.  But with only ONE character coming off of my ROTJ list?  That's another story.

So are we going to be doing a 6" figure poll at some point, too?

So how is the EU poll going to be handled this year?

All in one like last year?
Separate polls for EU, CW, and Rebels?
One for Legends EU and one for Canon EU (CW/Rebels/New Comics & Books)?
Or just a poll for Canon EU?

Non-canon EU has less chance than a womp rat in the sights of Luke's T-16.

So how is the EU poll going to be handled this year?

I think Scott had mentioned earlier in the thread about doing a separate wishlist for Rebels and then one poll for the rest of the EU (everything else).

It'll be up to everyone's personal tastes I guess if they want to vote for the "new" Dis-nE-U characters or the old Star Wars Legends EU characters.

Non-canon EU has less chance than a womp rat in the sights of Luke's T-16.

Sure seems that way.  On one hand, that bums me out... but on the other hand, with the line on life support, tossing figures like Guri, Lumpy, and Ackmena into the line probably isn't the best idea anyway. :(
Title: Re: Defender Wishlists 2014 Discussion
Post by: Jesse James on February 10, 2015, 06:41 PM
Yeah, there's a boatload of EU I want...  Noghri, Jan Orrs, Dark Jedi Jerec (and others), a Maarek Steele and Keyan Farlander set...  I'm all about stuff like that, but the line's just not suited for that stuff now.

'07-'10 were damn good years though.  Man, think about the goofy **** we got throughout that time?  '07 alone was a juggernaught.

A Rebels list would be relevant.  As would characters from The Old Republic, and maybe from the Clone Wars animated series.  But beyond those EU properties, or anything that pops up in the new Marvel Star Wars comics?  I fear that an EU poll might be an exercise in spinning our wheels.

So, is this list (though I don't believe we've done the ToC and a few other wishlists) being turned in at SDCC or is it on the backburner due to the 6" Fan Choice poll?
Title: Re: Defender Wishlists 2014 Discussion
Post by: Jeff on June 22, 2015, 11:22 PM
If anything, it's on the back-burner thanks to the utter lack of any new 3.75" figure announcements since October 2014.

Kind of pointless turning in a list of collector demanded 3.75" figures if we don't even know what scope the 3.75" collector figure line will have going forward.  :-\
Title: Re: Defender Wishlists 2014 Discussion
Post by: Jesse James on June 23, 2015, 01:42 AM
Yeah I think Defender Wishlists will pick up as the line picks up with new movies (hopefully), and there's good traction for sending in wishlists again.

New movies will mean whole new pools of characters too...  It'll certainly help and the old films will still have their lists.  I just hope Hasbro's as diligent about cranking them out as they generally were in the past.  The Wishlists always generated decent turnouts to plastic it seemed.
Title: Re: Defender Wishlists 2014 Discussion

So I am thinking we right now will wait until 1Q of 2016 for an Episode VII poll, probably do a Rebels poll and everything else in one bucket poll.  What a wasteland of hope for anything.  I am really glad we got Mosep there at the end but I really wanted a new Yak, the rest of the Vintage Updates and a ICMG (Jabba's Palace)

But, looking at it all, man what a ride...I mean...Ice Cream Maker Guy got made...in what universe is that even possible?
