Title: Force Friday II - September 1, 2017
Post by: Jeff on February 16, 2017, 11:13 AM
It's official - Star Wars Force Friday II (http://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-force-friday-ii-coming-september-1-2017) is September 1, 2017.

Also revealed today - our first look at the packaging for Episode 8 merchandise, which will obviously hit on FFII:

Episode VIII: Rey Lets Her Hair Down  :)

This has to be the first branding since POTJ that features human characters. Looks good.

This looks exactly like the red Legacy line look from a few years back. Not terribly exciting IMO.

+1.  Meh.  But I'm an old fart who wants everything to match with the vintage packaging, so what do I know.

Just need the cards and bubbles to be able to stay glued together.  Beyond that I don't care too much.

It's only interesting in that this is the first time I can recall heroes being placed on the product packaging. I guess POTJ had Obi-Wan but he was kind of small compared to Vader. Otherwise we had Vader a few times, the regular Star Wars logo, Darth Maul, Kylo Ren, and the Deathtrooper.

Speaking of heroes, I wonder if they'll make a Luke Skywalker figure for this movie.  I hear he's kind of a big deal.

With Toy Fair starting tomorrow, I'm actually hoping Hasbro reveals a TFA Luke this weekend.  I'm also prepared to be disappointed again.

Actually there is no planned Luke Skywalker for Episode 8, but I do have some pretty serious insider knowledge about what 3.75" figures we can expect for Force Friday, and I'm going to reveal it here for all of you to see:

Wave 01:
Kylo Ren
Finn
Poe Dameron
Rey
Chewbacca
First Order Stormtrooper
Snoke

Wave 02:
General Leia Organa
Ghost of Han Solo
Elderly Senator Jar Jar
Tonnika Sisters in Stormtrooper Disguise
Gor Ban Lekka, Son of Lor San Tekka
Dr. Evazan and Ponda Boba - Cameo 2-Pack

Wave 03:
Darth Vader - Melted Helmet
Darth Vader - "Kylo's Wet Dream"
Darth Vader - Lightsaber Action
Darth Vader / Darth Vader 2-Pack
Darth Vader - Evolutions 12-Pack

Now that's brave or brace whatever.  Better put that "if it doesn't happen it's still accurate but Hasbro are dumb and changed their mine solely due to this leak" caveat in there tho.

Darth Vader - Evolutions 12-Pack

One of these 12 better be 3.75" SA Darth Vader (Bacta Tank) from Rogue One or I'm going to drive to Rhode Island and politely shout obscenities at cars entering and exiting the Hasbro Employee Parking Lot.

Unfortunately Hasbro is going to save that for the Darth Vader Evolutions 18 Pack that's going to come out when "Rogue Two: a Star Wars Story" comes out.  It details the time between when Vader flat out murdered all those Rebel Fleet Troopers, and when the Tantive is finally gobbled up by that Star Destroyer, and will finally answer the question that's been on everyone's minds; "did Jyn and Cassian survive that Death star blast!?"

Coming to theaters in 2022.

Hunh?  This is just mirroring the original vintage line with a scene the character appears in being used for the card.  The Vintage collection did the same thing, and so do the Gentle Giant 12" vintage repro figures.  There were lots of heroes on the product packaging, though usually only if the figure was a hero.   ;)

He's talking about the modern packaging planned for The Last Jedi with Finn, Rey, Poe on it - not vintage carded stuff.  Modern packaging hasn't had human heroes on it since Young Obi-Wan on the PotJ stuff.  The end-run Movie Heroes cards had Yoda (http://www.yakfaceforums.com/TGuide2004/html/TCW13/basic_figures/CW01.html) on them, but that was when the line was dying and getting dumped OUS.  Otherwise it's all bad guys or troopers usually.

Oh, duh!  I had the 6" Luke exclusive on my mind, not the E8 packaging.  I guess they are making up for the absence of heroes by putting all three characters on there this time. Restoring balance to the force packaging?

I know Jayson is planning another sweet checklist for Force Friday, but I thought I'd start a makeshift list now for folks trying to start planning ahead on the Hasbro stuff at least (no way I can keep up with everything Hasbro, LEGO, Funko, etc - it's too much!)

Force Friday II:

Force Link Gauntlet Starter Set ($30)
- includes Kylo Ren figure

Basic Figures ($8 each):
6x Orange Assortment figures (Rey, Luke, Poe, Finn, Kylo, FO Stormtrooper)
7x Teal Assortment figures (Hux, Paige, Chewie, C-3PO, Rose, Kenobi, Yoda)

Versus Figure 2-Packs ($15 each):
Rey & Elite Guard
Han & Boba Fett

Class A Creature/Droid Assortment ($20 each):
Rathtar and Bala-Tik
Probe Droid and Darth Vader

Class B Vehicle Assortment ($30 each):
"Tango Neon" with Pilot
"Aero 1" with Pilot

Class C Vehicle Assortment ($40 each):
Resistance Ski Speeder with Captain Poe Dameron

Class D Vehicle Assortment ($50 each):
TIE Silencer with Kylo Ren (TIE Pilot)

Episode 8 Flagship 'big ticket' item ($200)
Star Destroyer/BB-8 Playset with Snoke and Elite Guard
Title: Re: Force Friday II - September 1, 2017
Post by: Darby on August 3, 2017, 12:02 PM
Really curious about the $30 ships. I would have thought the Ski Speeder would be in that range and the A-Wing at 40, since it seems longer at least than the OT version, but not sure. I am now super interested to see the playset. At $200, the size and scale should be pretty significant, but then... well, it sounds fun.

Yeah the $30 ships have my attention.  Initial pics of Ren's TIE left me disappointed but the speculated AWing?  I'm all ears on that.

What do we know about for DPCI or UPC codes for TLJ stuff  ???

I feel like I have seen a few fly around but would be helpful to assemble them all in one place.

I've tried searching for stuff on Brickseek but I can't find any info searching on individual products...

Wondering what Target is planning to do with their 2-packs for the upcoming reset. Around here, every single store pulled their entire stock off the shelves with the last reset, so I guess they are just gonna put them back out alongside the new 2-packs?

I know these never went on clearance, and I haven't heard of a new DPCI for 2-packs, so I'm thinking they will magically reappear in a week.

Title: Re: Force Friday II - September 1, 2017
Post by: McMetal on August 30, 2017, 02:49 PM
Less than 48 hours out now...a few things have me wondering.

1) TRU : Has not done a good job moving out old product. I guess they are going to just mix and match old and new stuff on the pegs. I hate to even try going by there on FF, but their rumored 6" 2-pack is a strong lure. Is that going to be a last minute reveal?

2) Walmart : Made a decent effort to move old stuff out but then seemed to give up a few weeks ago. Now they just have piles of the same old pegwarmers in both scales. Like TRU I guess they are just going to throw up the new stuff alongside the old, although I have heard rumors of some kind of standalone display too, but that seems like a random deal.

I mostly want to know WTF are they planning to do with all those Legacy Vader sets that are stuck at $30. Cut them down to 15 or 20 already. They are not moving and it just looks stubborn not too keep dropping the price.

3) Target : They did the best job of anyone at blowing at the old items. The ones around here are pretty much void of any 6" or 3.75" figures. They seem to have just been purged from the system this week too. No stores are showing counts yet on any of the new DPCI's but I assume that info will magically appear on or around 9/1.

I really want to know what they did with the 2-packs and if they are going to share pegs with the new ones using 2 different DPCI's or what. That sounds like a mess.

I also want to know what they are waiting for to clearance out the exclusive AT-ACT Driver and Rogue One 3-packs. How long do they intend to hang onto those? They are taking up valuable real estate and haven't been on sale once around here.

My plan at this point is to hit up a few Walmarts at midnight (luckily no army builders in Wave One so if I get lucky and find a full case I'm set) and then maybe swing by TRU. The next morning I plan to wake up early and hit a few Targets to try and take advantage of the sale, plus pick up some of the Executioners.

I'm not even going to bother with GameStop because there is no way they are getting those exclusives in by Friday. We would have seen leaks already.

It seems like they are being even more tight lipped than with TFA at this point. I thought maybe we'd get one of those global unboxing things this year, but wouldn't they have announced it by now? Granted, we have a decent idea what is on the way with all of the leaks, but I sort of enjoyed that last time. If for no other reason than there was Star Wars content all day.

Did Hasbro ever put out real high quality photography of the Force Friday offerings like they did in that booklet for TFA?

It seems weird that it's September in two days, figures are out tomorrow at midnight, and I haven't seen anything really other than a few leaked photos on Instagram?

Hmmmm.  That one leaves me dreading that Palpatine is exclusive to that set, dammit.  I wanted the Emporer as a standalone figure, TBH.

Might not be, since Hasbro showed him on his own. That said, I think this is a great set really, so if it is the only way to get him, I'm ok with it. Odd Vader is left out, to complete the scene.

One hour to go boys!

I'm switching up my original plan and going back to what I did last year for a Rogue One: waiting till midnight and picking up as much as I can online, and then rolling out to enjoy the atmosphere and try to fill any gaps or maybe try to pick up some of the exclusive stuff.

If these wave 2 six inch reports are true, my expenditures may have just jumped by 30%.  :P

Can't wait to hear how everyone makes out! Good luck to all!

From what I've heard this is 2015 part 2. Multiple TRUs getting SINGLE cases of Black Series figures, and 3 vehicles
Title: Re: Force Friday II - September 1, 2017
Post by: Darby on September 1, 2017, 02:06 AM
I can confirm that as well. Went to the local Wally and they had only one case of 5 POA figs (for each - Orange and Teal). Disaster averted as Ben and I were both able to get our Lukes between two WM's, but... also the six inch Hera created a minor controversy by being pilfered before the pallet hit the floor.
Title: Re: Force Friday II - September 1, 2017
Post by: McMetal on September 1, 2017, 02:08 AM
Yeah our TRU was cleaned out almost immediately. Apparently they didn't even get any of the little figures. A buddy of mine let me know to save me some trouble.

I got too frustrated trying to order anything online after about 15 minutes of reloading, waiting, etc.

I ended up hitting 3 different Walmarts with a friend. The first had just been cleared out by two jackholes who were staking out the stockroom. All I got was a 6" Rey and Luke.

The next Walmart was also cleaned out. (Vader is the least favorite apparently) but at the third one I got lucky and found two full cases still left so I picked up the rest of 6" wave 1 figures and called it a night.  :)

Waking up early to hit a few Targets for some Executioners and to score the 2 speeders with that coupon. I guess I can't complain, overall it was a fun time tonight.

Our TRU had 1 case each of 6" wave 1 and 2.  I had Maz and Finn in hand, but put Finn back and Maz had wonky eyes, so I left her behind as well.

Not so great experience myself - went to a Walmart that basically had one case each of Orange and Teal figures. There were two other guys who had been there sooner than me, thankfully one guy wanted only Chewie and the other guy wanted one each of all the female figures for his daughter and a Luke - so I was able to score a set of 11 figures there. I picked up a Rathtar, Ski Speeder and a Force Link Starter Kit.

Ran over to the Toys R Us after that and was able to grab an A-Wing and a non-mint Probe Droid.

Went to another WalMart only to find 6" figures (which I don't collect) and there was plenty of those for Wave 1 and remnants from a Teal wave - so I grabbed Hux, C3PO, Rose and Paige to open.

My last resorts are the Walmart and Target nearest to my house - the WalMart closed at midnight so my hope is that they didn't put anything out before that and the Target wasn't on the midnight opening list - so I have my fingers crossed that I'll be able to get the remaining vehicles and "creatures" sets I need. My goal is to try to purchase enough stuff at Target so I can get three of those $25 gift cards and drop the price on a BB-8 playset to $125, so I'll probably take a gamble on the vehicles at Target and only focus on figures at the WalMart.

I actually had a rather good experience this morning...  After doing the midnight toy-run thing at Toys R Us for the TFA toy releases two years ago (and winding up being rather disappointed) I instead opted to hit a Target store right when they opened this morning (Friday) and was able to score everything I had wanted and then some.

I was one of about 8 people awaiting the doors to open at Target this morning...  A big teenage kid got his monthly exercise running to the toy aisle to grab just about every 6" Black Series figure he could, but I was able to get the A-Wing, TIE Silencer, Ski-Speeder, the 3.75" Luke, plus a few other 3.75" figures that looked pretty neat.  Then I went to the other display at the rear of the store and scored some more of the 6" Black Series figures that the teenage kid didn't get, including TFA Luke (who looks like he could substitute for a Moses action figure :P ) as well as the 6" scale vehicles including Rey's tractor and Luke's land speeder.

I am not a completist collector by any means, so it doesn't matter if I need to get an entire wave or something, and just have specific items that I target for my collection.  I'm just happy I was able to get everything I wanted in one swoop, though I'm not sure my credit card was ;)

Has been a pretty nice start to the day for me, although the five hours of sleep isn't feeling great.

I got to the Target by my house about 8:05-8:10am and there were already 5-6 people milling around the toy aisle when I got there. Luckily someone tipped me off to the bigger stash in the "seasonal" section so I was able to pick up another set of the new BS 6" figures as well as a First Order Executioner which I bought with the $25 gift card they gave me. :)

At the next Target I hit I snagged both the Rey Speeder and Landspeeder, got another $25 gift card which I used to buy a second Executioner. (Two is all I need)

I swung by TRU, Kohl's and a few GameStops while I was out but there was nothing going on any of those places.

Happy I got everything I wanted, some free Target exclusives, and with minimal hassles. Good day!

"Luke is who everyone is going after," said some guy to me at TRU, then telling me Target had him (which it didn't, but I saw him at Wal-Mart already).

I bought nothing. Didn't see the Probot. Not up for a $20 probe droid anyway. Nor did I see the big playset.  No sign of the new 3 3/4" black series at Wal-Mart. Not surprised.

Most tempting thing I saw today was Funko's 4" Batgirl.

I wasn't able to (or willing to) head out at midnight, but went on a little run this morning. First Wal-Mart....nothing. No basic figures, some 6" but it was all Vaders and one Kylo. No vehicles, beasts, or two packs. Ended up picking up some Funko, since our daughter really wanted some of those.

Hit a couple other WMs, since they were fairly close, and both had a little more. Handful of basic figures at the first (able to get Luke - the only one I saw today, and Rey). At the next store I saw the playset, some 6", and the Black Series vehicles and centerpieces.

Finally, decided to hit Target on the way home, hoping for a Black Series Luke. This store was stocked with virtually everything. Basic figures, two packs, beast packs, Black Series figures/vehicles, etc. plus a lot of neat "other" stuff. I did find a Luke (the only one), and I was basically able to get everything I wanted for the most part. Luke was definitely the scarcest here, only found one of each of the basic and BS.

"Old man" rant time....this year really drove home how expensive an endeavor collecting has become. I skipped a lot of stuff this year (basic figures like Finn, Poe, Kylo, etc since they were basically the same and I could get them down the road, and the vehicles), and I still spent way more than expected. I sometimes wonder if I should have stayed away from 6", as much as I like them. Those $60 vehicles and figures add up fast 😉

My haul?

3.75" BASIC FIGURES:  Rey, Kylo Ren, Finn, Rose, Paige, Chewbacca, C-3PO and Hux.  I scored Leia online from HTS and the Rey/Praetorian 2-pack from Amazon
VEHICLES:  Resistance Ski Speeder
CREATURES:  Rathtar with Bala Tik
6" BLACK SERIES:  Jedi Master Luke and Imperial Stormtrooper (in store).  SDCC Thrawn & Landspeeder from HTS, Hera, Stormtrooper, Exclusive Deluxe FO Stormtrooper and Praetorian from Amazon

I think I did enough damage.  Now for some bargain hunting!

Headed out at midnight to the local WMs. As Darby said, we had to hit two to get our Luke figures, which was the only reason I went out. Glad to find it finally, as it's a figure that should have been out eighteen months ago, but here we are. A very lousy showing by WM, as it has been the last two releases. One case each of Orange and Teal, and no new Black Series 6" at the second store. Hera was conspicuously absent from the PDQs at the first store, which doesn't surprise me. I don't collect the Rebels 6" figures, but some dude was there looking for just Hera and must have managed to find one.

Going out in a bit to see what's out there. Only ended up buying Luke and Paige last night, waiting to see what gets revealed before buying something I don't want.

Managed to score three Rathtars (one for me and one each for my boys), and a Probot set.

Yeah - I did.  ;D

I went to Target and picked up:

2x Kylo's TIE Silencer
1x Ski Speeder
1x A-Wing
1x Police Speeder (only cause I only found 1)
1x Rathtar
1x Probe Droid
2x Rey, Finn, Poe, Kylo Ren, FO Stormtrooper, Chewie, Luke
1x Hux, Rose, Paige, C-3PO
3x Rey / Praetorian Guard 2-pack
2x Han / Boba 2-pack
1x Force Link Starter Kit (the regular one with Kylo Ren)
1x BB-8 Playset w/Snoke & Praetorian Guard
1x Black Series Titanium Kylo Ren
1x Black Series Titanium Finn

I still need an opener of the Police Speeder. I probably want one, if not two more Rathtars (two because there were three in the movie). Over on the A-Wing thread tmanthegreat had a great suggestion to put Paige in the A-Wing and I agree - so I'm probably going to pick up another Paige opener, throw her in the cockpit so I can have Tallie on display. And then at some point, I'm going to score an opener of that BB-8 playset. Oddly, the place where I found the Titanium Series Finn and Kylo ren ONLY had those two figures - no Rey or Phasma, so I still need those two.

Today, I stacked the Target coupon, I parked at one of the self check-out lanes and just kept ringing up orders of $100 each. Got three of them for $75 in gift cards and then I used that to bring the playset down from $200 to $125. I just kept scanning the coupon I had on my phone. Later when I was home, I noticed that the coupon number of the one I got in the paper, plus each of the ones I got to both my Android and iPhone were all the same - so the coupon is not a unique single-use entity. You are just limited that you can only use it once per transaction (so no using the $100 one twice on a $200 purchase) and you can't use the coupon again when you are using gift cards as part of your payment.

I'll have to go back and look, but it's not as much as the TFA damage, but I *think* it's on-par with the Rogue One damage - maybe only slightly less.

On the Lego side, definitely less as I'm pacing myself this year cause I want to squeeze in the new Millennium Falcon at some point, so I only picked up online the two mid-priced sets - the Resistance Bomber and Kylo Ren's TIE - this was so I would get two of the Scarif Trooper Minifigure that they're giving away with orders over $50.

Oh - and I pre-ordered 3 of that Princess/General Leia TLJ figure from the Disney Store. It's also over on Hasbro Toy shop, but I'm pretty sure if I purchase stuff from the Disney Store using my Chase Disney Visa Card, there's a discount applied to the purchase on my bill and HTS was limiting you to only 2 per order.

Up next will probably be the Target 8-Pack of repackaged figures - just one for the MIP/MIB/MOC collection. They didn't have any at my local Target but they looked it up and showed that they had a case of them coming in on Monday.

There's also the other exclusives - the TRU Poe X-Wing w/Booster Module, TRU Force Link Starter Kit with Praetorian Guard and First Order Executioner, the Target ROTJ Force Link 3-pack, the four 3.75" Black Series figures at WalMart and the WalMart TIE Fighter...

I didn't do a ton of damage actually McMetal, but some...

Last night I was out with friends in a larger suburb north of Pittsburgh (Near the Lemieux complex where my Pens practice, go Pens!), and since I only was really jonesing for 3.75" Black Series, I kinda knew my night was short.

None of those were out, nothing new anyway, and so at TRU where most of the crew was, I got a Probot which was one of only a few they had.  More Rathtars, so I'm assuming they're more heavily packed than the probe droid?  Either way I got a probe droid and it's quite neat.  I had 2 $3 off coupons so it was only $15 basically so that was nice too.

They (TRU) were the only ones who had a significant presence of stuff...  Wal-Mart was so-so.  No basic ships, figures, or other similar stuff, only pre-pack displays were put out at midnight.  Dunno what happened there later though, of course.

My WM (which I hit on the way home) had put out some basic stuff, but basic figures were picked to one figure left per peg and all Rose, Pilot lady, & Hux.

Target nearby my area was also the only one on this side of the city open, and it too was picked over when we got there.

Today I went out and got an A-Wing and Rathtar at K-Mart for points.  No basic figures (though they had them at least).  They didn't have the Ren ship and I didn't see the CB Speeder at Kmart either, kinda odd.  I only wanted the Rathtar and A-Wing and Probot first day so I was fairly happy.  No basic figure screamed "buy me now!" and Rose having a TBS 4" figure means I probably won't get her but on clearance maybe.  The female pilot I may get though, she looked quite badass.

Other than that though, yeah, not much.  That's ok though, I'm just anxious for the TBS4" stuff right now.

Oh and I got 3 of the Jedha Revolt sets for $4 a pop.  Forgot about those but yeah, that was my score of the day!

Sounds like a pretty nice haul, Jesse, and for cheap too. That's awesome.

Pete, you never disappoint! Great work there too.

I actually did an interview on my friend's local radio show today about toy collecting in general, but we also talked a lot about FF and some of the antics we witnessed. Simultaneously seems to bring out the best and worst in people.

I didn't see a lot of absurdity but I mean it's inevitable you'll see something you're ashamed of haha.

That said I do see more from "peers" in the whole collecting site/news world that makes me feel some collecting shame than the guys out at the stores, haha.

That said I saw some little kids too, including little girls running around with figures and excited.  That was nice.  And contrary to the BS the centerpieces seem to have a solid 50% sell through so far.  Not bad for $50 things.  Basic figures seem to be moving.  Rose not so much so far, and Hux, but heroes for sure and FO Troopers too.  The 2 packs are the only basic 5poa figs I see regularly.

I really didn't see or bump into any absurdity at all - most everyone was personable, eager to chat about Star Wars and Star Wars collecting and polite with each other when in the store. While there was no one at my local WalMart when it opened at 7am on Friday, Thursday night I had great conversations with the guys at the 24 hour WalMart I was at exactly at midnight, at the Toys R Us I went to right after that, and then again at the Target near me that opened at 8am.

Weird thing about my Target is that they set up with two areas again, just like from the TFA Force Friday, was surprised to see them do that again, some of us went to the main aisle while others went to that seasonal aisle - it was great to see collectors helping each other out by letting each other know what items were where.

I worked a 14 hour day on Thursday and flew out to LA on Friday so I didn't have a lot of time to hit stores. I hit my local Target and TRU on Friday morning, Target had absolutely nothing new but TRU had some 4 inch stuff. Ended up grabbing Chewie (for the Porg) and Hux. Tonight when I got home from the airport I stopped by a local WM and snagged a Poe to headswap with the Black Series 4 inch figure.

I've still yet to see a single new 6 inch figure.

The great part of my experience on Force Friday is hanging out with my buddies for the day. Did fairly well on the night at TRU, only missed the 6 inch Red Guard. What really bothered me was heading to WM Friday AM to find that in spite of the fact that they re-did the SW isle in preparation, AND that they had the product (because I found it the week before) they did stock anything 3.75 inch related for Force Friday. I mean, seriously? The toy manager had a job to do and he he didn't do it.

Check out this Bloomberg article about Hasbro and their STAR WARS - THE LAST JEDI toy line:

Hasbro CEO Admits Making Mistake With ‘Last Jedi’ Toys (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-03-28/hasbro-ceo-admits-making-strategic-mistake-with-last-jedi-toys)

Feel free to read the full article.  But the gist of it?  Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner stated that the toy line for THE LAST JEDI was released too far in advance of the theatrical release of the movie.  And there is a consensus that there may be franchise fatigue with some 20 films fielding licensed toy lines.

The strategy moving forward may involve a toy line launch closer to the theatrical release of a film.  And notably, the SOLO toy line is rolling out in April, approximately a month before the movie is released in theaters.

I've never really understood trying to launch toys so far ahead of a movie.  I assume they're trying to drive interest in the movie, but with the strict street dates you would think they would aim for something like 10 days before the movie comes out.

I get it that in the Christmas season you'll want your stuff out by Thanksgiving, but for Solo I would aim for a week or two early at most.

The article mentions the rollout for the TFA line which saw a lot of anticipation.  But with the movie releases becoming an annual thing it's been less special with each successive release.

The December movie releases have led to complications with retail.  Notably, trying to stake out that shelf space for the toy line in advance of the holiday retail set ups.

Exactly.  That way a kid sees the film and then pesters the parent for a toy from said film.
