NICE! Although this is the first 3.75" scale astromech droid in the Hasbro Star Wars line other than R2-D2 since the Celebrate the Saga multipacks.
Still, I'm happy to get this figure. It almost seems like Hasbro had some kind of a brainfart when they released the Blue Leader X-Wing and didn't have General Merrick's droid ready to go later that year.
-
Yeah I'm happy they're making this droid. I've been toying with the idea of customizing one but I never did. Glad I held off.
-
I have a BAD version of this basically so I may skip it. I hate that sculpt generally.

Is it a custom? The dome is essentially an R2 silver-base dome with black panels - I wasn't aware of any R2 silver domes with black panels had been released yet.

There aren't any. I pored over every source I could find on the Hasbro and Disney BAF droids and couldn't find any with that particular dome. The only dome I found that was even close was the Saga Collection R4-K5. But that droid is built on the R4-G9 body and doesn't have a removable dome.
The droid that I found was closest to R2-SHW was the Disney color changing R2 unit. But the panels on that dome are a dark blue, not black.
I'm glad this is finally coming out. But it really should have been released either at the same time or shortly after the Blue Leader X-Wing was released. Or *GASP* packed in with the vehicle! They're charging us enough already.

I think it’s a custom… I got a ton of that body and did a couple customs. I could be misremembering tho and need to buy this now. ::)

100% Agreed - strange that I will be able to get more R2-SHWs than I can easily get of Antoc Merricks. Would have made A LOT more sense if they had just included the two figures in with the $100 re-release of the TVC Luke's X-Wing, especially since the only thing unique/new about R2-SHW is the paint job.
-
Eh, for the price I don't love it. But I do want his astromech to display along with the X-wing. I'll bite, but this really should have just been a pack in, they wouldn't have even needed to card it.

$17 for a repainted Astromech is insane and we're all going to buy it..

The price is painful for a repaint and its a Hasbro exclusive so they get to keep all the extra profits.
-
Pulse just charged me for this one.

Mine arrived today and boy does he look sharp!
I generally like the Droid Factory funky variants (although I'm getting a little tired of the Holiday themed ones), but its great to have a real droid from the movies/shows.
-
Got mine just now and I agree. It’s not like there’s a shortage of droids from the movies to make.

My entertainment earth order still shows a 2/23 release date. Gonna cancel and get through HasbroPulse if that status doesn't change in a few days.
