The Black Series 6" Figures / Re: 6 Inch Figures?
« on: January 28, 2013, 07:02 PM »
I hear ya Greg.  Even if the 6" line has some great offerings, personally, I plan to set up a small, modest collection, mainly comprised of main characters from the OT (ie Luke, Vader, Fett, Han, Chewie, Leia, R2, 3PO), due to space constraints.  I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens...

Indeed, it's challenging to simultaneously collect from multiple toy lines.  It makes it harder to keep focus, not to mention the additional time and money spent acquiring items.  However, many collectors are able to do it successfully, whether collecting SW figures and Lego items, SW figures and Marvel Universe figures, SW figures and Sideshow, and so on.

With regards to my collecting habits, I've narrowed my focus to mostly OT figures/ships, so it wouldn't be hard for me to juggle a potential 6" line on the side.  If the 3.75" line is ditched (which I really feel is highly unlikely since it's been going strong for so long, not to mention it's what Star Wars collectibles are identified with), it wouldn't be a big deal to me.  I'm happy with what's been offered throughout the years.  Sure, I'd love a few more cantina aliens & Jabba's Palace goons, but I'm content with my collection.

Wow, the initial reaction towards a prospective 6" line is pretty negative (at Rebelscum, here, etc.).  What baffles me are the comments from collectors saying they don't want to "start over."  Who says you have to?  Why can't you continue to collect 3.75" figures AND (gasp) 6"?!  Nobody had to "start over" when they released Unleashed figures, did they?  You pick up what you like, it's that simple.

Highly detailed, super articulated 6" figures of Star Wars characters?  Count me in, especially with regards to OT characters.  Start the line off on the right foot and begin by offering Boba Fett and Darth Vader, and you got a deal.  My only worry is what the retail price and availability will be.

Yeah, the lack of waist articulation is somewhat of a bummer, but it displays nicely in a statue-esque kinda way.

Yeah the generic clone head one didn't hold up great.  That figure, in general, has a lot of flaws.  The helmet sits poorly and isn't the better sculpt out there.  The limbs, particularly the legs, weren't always even on that figure, now some discoloration...  Not a favorite of mine.

I have the same criticisms of the TAC Stormtrooper.  If I'm correct, I think I have 5 TAC Stormtroopers in my collection, and haven't had the desire to acquire any more than that.

Of the favorites you mentioned, the figure I've used for army building lately has been the VC "clean" Sandtrooper.  All you do is pop off the shoulder pauldron and put aside the backpack thingy, and presto.  I have like 10 of them and they display just fine.

I have a few of the TLC Spacetroopers, and would love to have a few more.  I really love the Tantive IV pack Stormtrooper and have like 4 of them.  Would love to add another 10.  The sculpt is based on the VOTC version, no?

65
No, none of my VOTC Stormtroopers are discolored (knock on wood).  I guess I've been lucky.  On the other hand, I've noticed a couple of my TAC Stormtroopers have started to have some discoloration in the torso area.

Ressurrection time!

I scored 3 recently as part of a lot I purchased, bringing my total to 6.  This is definitely my favorite Stormtrooper ever made, definitive, IMO.

I'll go ahead & only answer question 1, since the others are no-brainers.

Best figure: Sandtrooper.  Absolutely love the weathering/paint job.   Mad props for Lumat & INC.

Not bad.  I need to track down a Dagobah playset box.  I love the picture on the box.

The whole "Fan Favorite Re-Issues" spin by Hasbro is hilarious.  As if they really give a hoot about fans...

I really felt this new one's vastly superior.

Even the face?  The VC version looks likes it modeled after...well...not Carrie Fisher....

Scored a vintage Ewok playset recently.  Okay, I'm lying, it wasn't an Ewok playset, rather, it was the Robin Hood Sherwood Forest playset.  To-may-to, to-mah-to.  I actually prefer the paint job on the Robin Hood set.  Pretty neat piece, but it was missing a few parts.

Seriously though, no figure in the wave is really bad...  Jar Jar included (I prefer him to the MH one).

Sorry, as much as I hate JJ (no, not you  :-X  :-*), I think the MH version is far superior.  And I know you'll think I'm nuts for saying it, but I actually prefer the OTC Bespin Leia figure over the VC version.

It figures we'd get more of this, and not the Tarkin wave, which to this day I have never seen on the pegs ANYWHERE.

I've only seen the Tarkin wave at retail one time, and that was at a Hastings.

This has been the only wave not too difficult to find this year aside from the TPM wave.

Yes, especially that craptastic Jar Jar figure.  However, Vader is almost always absent on the pegs, on BOTH cards.

nice score man!  I saw this case at TRU too.

I guess this wave is making its way through...finally.  I'm just surprised to find anything in terms of vintage figures beyond TPM at TRU.  I've seen this wave pop up at Walmart recently, too.  Brown bandana every time.
