Title: Monthly Customizing Challenge - Month 7: Organic Separatists
Post by: CHEWIE on October 20, 2005, 12:56 PM
Seeing that Month #6 - BLUE HARVEST is nearing an end, I thought we could start discussing more about Month #7...

What is the consensus on this?  Are we going to work on organic Separatist Troops?  What other suggestions do we have?

So, I take it you are going to join in on it?

I believe we had some other ideas too... what the heck were they?  This one stuck out in my mind.  But if there are others, let's discuss them.   :)

Yeah, non-droids.  We had also thought about not letting them be Nemoidians either.  Maybe some Quarren Squidheads or something.  Or Trandoshans, or even humans fighting against the Republic.

I vote for Non-Nemoidian as well. They need some sort of variety in the Seppie ranks. :)

No love for the frogs? Come on, I have a pretty cool Nemoidian I'm working on I'd love to throw him into the ring :-)

Thanks. I slapped some paint on him last night and I need to post pics. I repainted his coat black, the helmet gray, gave him nemoidian hands, and repainted all the flesh a darker green with a black wash... he looks a *lot* more down and dirty now.

And I'm not sure if I should congratulate or pity you at this point. I was just recently sworn in, so Law School is thankfully a memory for me now :-). First year is as hard as it gets until you start practicing, but I'm sure by now you know that.

Where are you enrolled? I'm a Gator.

I can't wait to see the finished version of that Neimoidian!

School is insane so far (as such, I haven't been able to do a custom in over a month  :'().  My life these days exists exclusively of reading cases and writing memos...
I go to Rutgers Camden Law School.  I'm not familiar with "Gator" although I'm sure I should be...  :-\

Gator = University of Florida (undergrad and law) :)

Get used to that life, and plan to work like that this summer wherever you go. Do yourself a favor and work this summer... you need to stay in the habit from now on :)

I almost ended up in the NE for law school. Being a Florida boy, that cold weather would likely have killed me...

I'm about to post pics of my Nemoidian along with some pics of a custom Clone Unit I've been working on.

How about some custom Coruscant Lawyers for a future customs challenge?   ;)

I'm looking forward to seeing your finished Nemoidian.  I think we were just looking for some Separatist that Hasbro hasn't made any of yet, which is why we were leaning towards other species.  But yours can be the first kick-off entry for it.

For this month's challenge, I think I am gonna be really into it.  I'm going to try and create everything in two's - two of each kind of troop that I make.  I'd like to make at least three different kind of troops, which means at least six figures.

Well, I'll be doing two this month - one nemiodian (I know they aren't supposed to count  :-[) and one non-nemoidian (so I obey the rules  ;)).

I've already got things cooking on my 'frog, I started him while working on my other "blue harvest" entry last night (which of course isn't finished yet  ::)).

You know, I wonder what a Galactic Lawyer would look like... for some reason I envision grand robes and colorful trappings and wigs ala English Common Law...

As for my frog, I'll try to get a good shot of him tonight to submit as a final. I also want to touch up just a couple of problems I've seen with him.

From there I have some old Bossks that need to become something other than Bossk...sounds like as good an excuse as any... :p

I made a self-custom journeyman protector for the Self-customs challenge a while ago and I plan on posting a picture of him in his full mandalorian armour for this month's submission. I may post it up early for the sake of updating my customs thread, however. If I do so, I'll probably make another custom and post THAT one at the end of the month.

Man!  I had really wanted to do this challenge - so many ideas!  I even bought parts a while ago (whever the idea for the organic separatists came about).  I will definitely try to finish acquiring the parts and hopefully I'll be able to make a few dirty Seps!

Ok, I'm going to update with one entry of my own already, but before than I thought it would be fun to take a look at something that Owen D. made for me a while back, and use it for inspiration -

Quarren Separatsits by Owen D -

These are such awesome figures and I think a great way to kick off some inspiration for this month's challenge.

Also, I decided to add in an early entry -

Teemoure - Trandoshan sympathizer for the Separatist cause

Thanks Kit.

We have a slow month here last month, so I'm trying to kickstart this month.  We all need a kick in the butt.   :)

I made two Separatists tonight... they were actually hard to make.  Had a lot of trouble, but I like the end result - two Weequay Separatist Troops.

1. Great use of parts on those Weequay. I love the helmets.

2. I really like the use of the droid blasters. It makes too much sense to not use those blasters. (I also like using Grievous' blaster for seps).

3. I'll bet you can't wait to get your hands on the Weequay Jedi :)

Nice work, CHEWIE.

So, what's the scoop with everyone else's customs for this month's challenge?

Hey CHEWIE.

This monthly challenge is such a cool idea.

My life is too hectic right now for customizing, but when things settle down for me a bit, is it okay if I submit for previous challenges retroactively?  ;)

Of course you can add onto the previous months.   ;)

Fritzkrieg, I love your Trandoshan.  It almost looks like an Unleashed figure.  So well done, and I can't wait to see what new figure you might make for this.

I finally found time to take pics of Dav'sa Arman in mandalorian armour. I made a custom for the "self-customs challenge" a while back dressed as a journeyman protector. Here he is wearing his mandalorian armour. He served yet again with the mandalorians in the clone wars from Separatist employers, working covert-ops missions with Headhunter company, a section of mandalorians who were once under jaster mereel's direct command.

I feel pretty satisfied with it, but I really think I should have painted his jumpsuit greyish-tan then given him a wash of black. Maybe I'll revise it later, but I'm actually quite satisfied with it as is.

I need to better my photography skills, cause you can't see the scratches and battle damage I pained on his armour. My favourite is a "paint scratch" scar going down the right side of his helmet. I'll take a pic of that later.

Wow, now that is one TOUGH looking warrior.  I think the jumpsuit looks pretty good as is.  Did you paint it black, then do a gray wash on it?  Maybe a bit of dry brushing on it too, first with black, then with gray to see what that might look like.  Not that it needs it, just an idea.

The green armor is a good match for the overall look of the figure too.

Time's almost up!

I made this one tonight with this challenge in mind.  His name is Trisek - he isn't really a "troop" but has done fighting for the Separatists, and secretly has ties to the Badoo Corba terror organization.

OK, here's my entry. He's a Nautolan Separatist spy. I envision him using the same abilities that make Kit a good Jedi to be a good spy. Treachery, deception, etc. He's made using Dirk Pitt's sidekick from the Sahara subline (available at Wal-Mart) and a surgically modified AOTC Kit (I cut the action tentacles off, and removed the factory neck to give him a better jaw line). I also gave him Neimoidian boots, which made him taller and added articulated ankles. Compared to the ROTS Kit, he's a tower of an alien.

I think he looks dirty and mean, and he's the first guy I've made that was actually inspired by a Custom Challenge, so here you go. :)

Excellent work guys!

In Rem: I commented more in your thread but I really like your entry. The modifications are excellent.

CHEWIE: As always an excellent entry. That Djas Puhr body is excellent. I like the purplish skin tone. I'm not sure I like the red leggings though. The red on the collar is fine but for some reason the red seems out of place on the leggings because the pants are that blueish color. I think that I'd either nix the red, or change the pants to black.

Man I wish I could find some of those Sahara figures.  I've looked and looked, but no luck at any Walmarts in my area.

I love how you put this figure together.  He really has that dirty Separatist look to him, and I think the scar is the perfect touch.  Great color choice too.

Thanks, CHEWIE. I think the pictures turned out OK, but he looks better in person. He also looks good alongside standard figures...I should have taken some photos in context. I think in scale he's probably like 6' 8" or something like that... real tall and lanky, which for some reason adds to his thuggish look. :)

I snagged the only two Sahara guys I saw the last time I was at Wal-Mart (although I have seen more at times when I didn't have $$$ for fodder). They are mixed in with the newer Marine figures, so you might have to dig. Some people are bashing these as shoddy, but mine have both worked out really well so far.
