Post by: evenflow on June 29, 2007, 06:43 PM
I figured most people are not checking out the CIV section of the forum anymore but i wanted to share this with you guys. It wasnt easy (or cheap)

Oh, you lucky bastard, Daniel!!  Man, that's a beautiful set.  Most envious I am...  I assume we're not allowed to ask how much it set you back, right?  :-X

I was at CIV and tried to get into a couple panels, but folks weren't coming out of them when they let out each time, so even if you were near the front of the line for the next panel, you still weren't even guaranteed to get a spot in the 300 seat room.  I was pretty bummed, so I just threw in the towel on even bothering to try to get any of those medallions.  My only real regret for the convention.

Great addition to your collection though, for sure.  Congrats!

(p.s.  LMK if you ever wanna sell the set for cheap!  ;))

Very nice Daniel, congrats on getting a complete set. Looks very nice in that display case.  8)

I managed to get 2 medallions thus far, Sand People & 3PO. I may land up getting those single display cases for them.

Now to get a hand on those Celebration Europe medallions.  ;)  :-X

Well if it wasn't for the Vader medallion, it would have been way below what the full sets are going for. The Vader was around 100.00. The rest were not as bad as i thought they would be becuase most had free shipping so that cut out some price. I think the low i paid was 32.00 for one. With out doing the actual calculations i would say around 500.00 - 550.00. It is a cool set, and with that said i am staying away from the celebration europe ones. I can't afford to do this again.

What a sweet looking set.  I'm very jealous!  ~$100 for the Vader coin, eh?  Damn, that's the one I'd want the most.

I was over at Shane's Friday night & I had the pleasure of seeing & holding the Gold medallion set. This set is way better than the pewter set as the gold color highlights them way better.

From the archive, Celebration IV Associate Gold Medallion Set (http://theswca.com/index.php?action=disp_item&item_id=77865)

On the archive are pics of the mold, pattern & test samples. Just amazing seeing the pics on how these were made.  8)

I can't wait to get my CE medallion set.  ;D

I just finished my set of medallions (final one is in the mail now) and am psyched to get a case for them.  I managed to pick up 6 at the convention and the others through some good deals.

The pre-production pieces that they have on the archive are cool.  I'm pretty sure someone had some of the pre-produciton pieces at CIV, I think I saw them during the collector's social hour but didn't get a close look.

As cool as the CE medallions look I don't think I'll try for a set of those.  I have a feeling they may be much more expensive than the US versions were but, cost aside, I don't have the nostalgia for the foreign pieces as I do for the US set and that was part of what made them interesting to me.

The CIV sets were going around a Grand before and during the con and have dropped to $800 or less now.  I'd hold out, I don't think they'll stay that high but I think they will be somewhat higher than the US versions just because they'll be selling them in Pounds or Euros and the exchange rate sucks right now.

My Luke medallion came yesterday along with a bonus piece, an R2-D2 test medallion.  Here's a photo of the set and the R2:

It is sold already.  I wonder if whoever had it, sold it to the ebay seller first.  I can't imagine a panel participant would sell their own set.  efranks, where did you get the quote in your signature?  I don't recall ever saying that.
Title: Re: CIV Medallions
Post by: efranks on July 25, 2007, 08:56 AM
I paraphrased it from this post (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=14014.msg309965#msg309965).

The auction said that Hollywood Heroes brokered the sale for a presenter.  So, from that, I take it to mean a presenter that received this set wanted to sell but rather than post his/her own eBay auction they went to HH to sell it for them to give them some anonymity.  Plus it's a high priced item so they may have wanted someone else to handle the receipt of payment and take care of shipping.

That's why it kind of surprised me that one of these sets came up for sale like that.

As I said, I can see the lure of the payout.  $3k would have covered all my expenses for going to CIV plus put over $1k back in my pocket.  Still, that's not the type of thing I would think to sell, it's so unique.

The only place you will be able to get official frames for the medallions is over at RS, they have 2 frames (CIV & CE $75.00 ea.) or singles for $15.00 ea. All 3 frames will be available after October 1st unless that changes again.  :-\

Official Medallion Frames (http://www.rebelscum.com/estore/products.asp?cat=168)

If you want to go another way, maybe check out a coin store for some kind of case to hold them in.

Looks like Reunion II in Paris has another couple of medallions to go with the Fett.

French 501st Garrison (silver), Boba Fett (silver) & French Rebel Legion Base (gold).

Opinion with the collectors! (http://www.starwars-reunion2.com/index.php)

Collector's items for Star Wars Meeting II (http://www.starwars-reunion2.com/animation.php#coins)

Bable Fish translation:

The collectors will be able to leave to hunting to the parts during two days Star Wars Réunion II. Indeed, several associations of fans taking part in the event manufactured collector's items at the time of the 30 years convention of Wars Star. Thus, two parts with the colors of the 501ème and Rebel Legion will be distributed at the time of the mini-plays organized within convention. A third part, sponsored by MintInBox.net, will be also distributed during the weekend. This last part which puts at the honor Boba Fett, takes as a starting point the the parts accompanying the first figurines Star Wars marketed by Kenner.

Oy! These are going to be tough to get.  :-\

I was wondering if anyone was good at making labels or little signs. I would love to have cool Reunion II graphic to put in the little space like the larger frame has. If anyone thinks they could help out let me know. Thanks in advance.

I sent an e-mail so will see what happens.  ;)

If you have a good printer you can do it that way or maybe a graphic store that does text labels & such but I am unsure what the cost would be.

I have not ordered any of the frames thus far but will soon & having the Reunion logo on the single would make the piece complete. I do have a friend that works at a grahic/decal store. What size would the graphic be? Maybe I can get a few made up.  ;)

Great, will go with that logo. I am going to order my 2 frame sets & a single next week at months end, I will wait till they arrive & I can give my friend the single frame to use so it looks & fits right.  ;)

As for the other Reunion medallions, I received a reply back on them. Yes, they were released at SWR2 & will be more difficult to find as the distribution process was very hazardous & most of the production went into both club members hands. A very tiny number of the other medallions were distributed on the event.

If they do show up on the bay, looks like we better get another mortgage... were screwed.  :-\  :'(

Well it's about time they announced the JP medallions, I had my first look over at Shane's before the toy show but I had to keep tight lipped on them. These medallions are the cat's ass, all representing various vintage Japanese toy lines.   8)

I can't remember them all, just saw a pic of them. They will be announced as more collecting panels are added before Celebration Japan begins. Also, it sounds like a frame will be available through the RS store for this set.

Also noted from my good friend Chris Georgoulias on RS:

Quote
Each one corresponds to a different Japanese collectible, all vintage except for Luke which was 1992. There are a mix of item types plus the various manufacturers. It was a conscious decision to have a nice variety of each.

On the back of the medallions there is a text description of the item, if it's part of a larger series as well as the name, manufacturer, and date.

I love the transforming X-Wing and of course the wind-up R2.

Hmmm... I'm not familiar with that Darth Vader candy premium.  Time to do some hunting for info.

I think I'm just going to aim for the Vader one.  Eventually.  I still haven't picked up the CIV or CE versions, so there's no big rush.

Going to be a very hard set to complete me thinks, a member at RS asked for a complete set of all 12 CJ medalions in the "I need help with exclusives!" thread.

Michael Ritter whom I know made this responce:

Quote
Not to sound harsh, but good luck in your search. I was there for all 12 panels and each one was packed. And almost all panels had people left out because of a lack of seats. The medallions were very popular and well received. I think the few sets that got completed in cJ will remain in Japan and will be difficult to purchase after all is said and done.

I was able to get this medallion at the Star Wars Fan Days III Live Auction.  It was one of the few items I wanted and that I was lucky enough to win.
