Title: College Football 2009
Post by: Diddly on July 28, 2009, 04:17 AM
It's that time of year again, and there are many questions that need to be answered, such as...

- Will Urban Meyer hang a hundred on Lane Kiffin?
- Will Bob Stoops win his first BCS bowl game in forever?
- Will Jim Tressel win his first BCS bowl game in forever?
- How many times will Lane Kiffin violate NCAA rules?
- Will Charlie Weis finally be fired?
- Will Mack Brown finally brush his teeth?

National Championship prediction:

Florida 42, Texas 24

60 point game for Florida. Alabama doesn't tend to run the score up, but could potentially put up 40.

- Will Bob Stoops win his first BCS bowl game in forever?
No. Choke artist.

- Will Jim Tressel win his first BCS bowl game in forever?
No. Choke artist.

- How many times will Lane Kiffin violate NCAA rules?
Starting now? The guy is hilarious - makes me love the SEC even more.

- Will Charlie Weis finally be fired?
Not until season's end. He's a placeholder for Urban.

National Championship prediction:

I'll guess Florida 28, Oklahoma 14.

Oh boy do I hope so.  Can't stand that little clown - and screw him for luring his dad away from Tampa.

National Championship prediction:

Florida 42, Texas 24

Sounds about right to me - the only thing that's could derail Florida is injuries.

Maybe Alabama will win the National Championship this year.

Ah Texas Tech, back to obscurity where we belong.  We can win 6 (hopefully), play in our Post-Christmas Day, but Pre-New Years Day bowl game and go on with life.

Screw that, Notre Dame is ranked #23! I cannot wait to see what the Hawaii Bowl champions do to retain their title.

Apparently Lou Holtz is claiming that Notre Dame will play Florida in the BCS Championship. Umm, no.

Also the AP Poll (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankings?pollId=1) was released today... no surprises there.

College football kicks off tonight on ESPN!

Double header with Steve Spurrier and the other USC vs. NC State, followed by Oregon vs. Boise State, which should be a darn good game.

Wow! I can see why Mike Bellotti flew the coup at Oregon. What a pathetic showing, and that RB Blount sure opened up a can of worms.

Unless the Boise St. guy said something racially derogatory Blount should be done for the season in my opinion. What a cheap shot. He could have hurt the other guy bad.

I'm surprised the kid who taunted him (and got popped for his trouble) got nothing though.  If I were his coach he'd be benched at least one game for being an ******* himself.

Probably doesn't go that way if Bradford doesn't get hurt, but it's still nice to see OU lose.

Gators took care of their patsy today: 62 - 3   8)

And if Oklahoma had been picking up the blitz, Bradford wouldn't have gotten hurt.

I went to law school at BYU and lived among those weirdos for three years, so maybe that's why I hate the Cougars (the fans more than the team, really...), but I'm glad a team from our illegitimate conference beat a BCS team.

Bob Stoops keeps saying that Bradford will be out 2-4 weeks. This same type of injury happened to Stephen McGee last year here at Texas A&M, and when he came back he got hit again and was out for the rest of the year. Bradford will be playing against Texas in 2-4 weeks so the smart thing to do would be for Bradford to rehab the crap out of that shoulder and not rush back to the field.

But yeah, OU can kiss their title hopes goodbye. In the 2-4 weeks Bradford will be out, they play Tulsa, which is no pushover, and an away game at Miami, which won't be easy. Not to mention Texas two weeks after that.

When I first heard just the blurb that he was stepping down, I was hoping it was followed by "....and joining the Dallas Cowboys as their new head coach"... but then it came out for health reasons.

Hope he gets the relaxation he needs.  I didn't know he was that young.  Hopefully he can return (if he wants to).

Now the question is... which Stoops brother will take the Fla. job?

It's definitely weird... either his health isn't that bad and he wanted out and has since been convinced to stay, or his health is bad and he's temporarily trying to create the appearance that he's sticking around so they don't lose all their recruits.

Either way, I wish they'd juts kept quiet about it until everyone was on the same page.

Not wanting to be outdone by Michigan State suspending several players for the Alamo Bowl, Texas Tech has suspended their Head Coach Mike Leach for the game as well.  I guess he is finished in Lubbock... it is sad, his offense and personality made the school fairly visible on the national level for a while, now Tech will get one of those coaches that Runs on 1st and 2nd, Passes on 3rd, Punts on 4th and loses to everyone but Baylor on a regular basis.

The good part... Tech will now be on TV only three times a year (Texas, OU and our Pre-Dec 31st Bowl game) so I can listen to the games on the radio which is actually more enjoyable.

Craig James is now responsible for killing 2 football programs in Texas in his lifetime.

Good Job!!  The first time he took money from boosters and killed SMU..now his whiny "Little League Dad" attitude has killed Texas Tech over his 2nd string bench warming whiny prima dona offspring.

I have been wanting to get rid of Coach Leach all season, but not at the whim of a second guessing parent.

Can't wait till his Grandkids get into College Football..then he will have a chance at a tri-fecta/hat trick.  Hopefully they go to OU.

Texas Tech hires Tommy Tuberville... hopefully Craig James approves...  I assume this means Tech goes from the high scoring spread offense to the wishbone or Power I?

I usually have College Football withdrawl about this time every year... now not so much.

Kiffin is going to drag USC down.  He's a douche.  Tenn is better off without him.  They will eventually realize that.  Some of those people overreacted a bit.

Death of the BIG XII?

Crap.  A few things that REALLY annoy me about this move... Pac-10 means night games, and I prefer to watch Texas Tech get beat in 11am (Cental) games so I can get over the pain before bed time and couldn't Tech have just gone to a Mountain West or reformed Southwest Conference so that they could win every once in a while?  Or maybe move them to the Big XII North, they could be champs there every other year or so.

I blame Craig James.

Yeah, this is obviously pretty big news here in Lincoln too, as all signs are pointing to the Huskers joining the Big Ten.  I'm not sure how I feel about it yet, as there are positives and negatives on both sides of things, but it is definitely going to change the entire landscape of college football one way or another if the Big 12 splits up.

And looks like Texas played everyone for fools, "saving" the "Big 12" while also fixing NONE of the original problems. Apparently ESPN stepped up with a huge television contract in order to prevent the mega-conferences, which really makes no sense to me. How does the Big 12 losing a big TV market and a nationally popular team AND a end-of-season championship game justify a huge TV contract? And on top of that, Texas will make about $25 million a year from TV in addition to the ability to create their own TV network which will gain them additional money. Every other school is only poised to make $14 million from TV, which is THE ORIGINAL REASON WHY COLORADO AND NEBRASKA LEFT. They were sick of being screwed by Texas and making zero TV money while Texas made all of it. I give this new crappy conference two years before we have to go through all of this again.

Now the Pac-10 look like idiots for gaining virtually nothing, Colorado look like idiots for having to pay the Big 12 buyout when they're already strapped for cash, and the other 9 teams in the Big 12 look like idiots because they're spineless cowards who refuse to do anything independent of Texas. They're just Texas' bitches. Jury is still out over whether Nebraska made the right move or not.

Yeah, the way Texas just dictated the entire thing is just frustrating.  Although I didn't want to see teams like Kansas, etc. left out in the cold, I was almost hoping the whole thing would just get busted up after we (Nebraska) and Colorado left.  As much as it stinks missing out on some of our rivalry games with Oklahoma, Colorado, and Kansas - I think in the long run the move to the Big 10 will be good for us.  It does seem as if they are just putting off the inevitablility of the super conferences though.  That being said, we've got one year left of Big 12 football play, and then we can start playing against the Gophers (for all the Minnesotans here) and other Big 10 teams.  Should be interesting.  Its too bad Texas couldn't have ended up getting screwed in the whole deal, but oh well.

I personally think Nebraska made a really smart move, the Big 10 (12?) is way stronger financially, has a profitable cable network that is shared equally and is just as strong traditionally as any of the other conferences in all sports.  I think the Big 10 should go after Kansas, Kansas St, Missouri and Iowa State and make the Big 16.  The Big 10 is and will always hold out hope that they can get Notre Dame to come into the fold but due to the NBC contract I don't see that happening

It would have been Better to move Tech to the Big XII North so they could be North Champs every other year.

Sad to see Nebraska and Colorado leave, but oh well, they weren't winning every year like they expected to 15 years ago.  I know if it fun to blame UT for this, but Oklahoma and Texas A&M are going to get more money too.

The sad part is that this magical 11th hour deal could not have been struck before the Big XII started to collapse?

I am glad Tech avoided the Pac 10 though, I have no interest in watching all the "away" games being played at 9pm or later local time.

I am pretty sure this "More" money that the remaining teams are getting is not going to stop the monthly calls I get to "donate" to the University.
