I think we may have something else planned but I need to make sure.

Im all for:

1)Kotor era characters (not necessarily the actual Kotor characters themselves)

2) ancient jedi or sith

3)Characters appearance between ep3 and ep4

4)Unseen Cantina patrons

I also think Star Wars musicians would be pretty cool.  :P
any species or anything just make a fan fic musician kind of thing from SW universe.

Yeah, I was thinking about what we had talked about Ennis.  I'm all for that idea, if you want to propose it.

Thanks Jeff by the way for bringing this topic up.

No problem.  I didn't want it to get forgotten amongst all the "Ultimate Group Project" talk.

And, it's hard for me to pimp a new monthly challenge on the front page if we don't have one.   ;)

I'm interested to see/hear/read what CHEWIE and Ennis are devising...

The idea that Ennis sent me a PM about was actually something to do with the Group Project... I think it's a good idea, but since it was his idea I'll let him explain it.  If he doesn't get to it within the next day though, I'll bring it up because we're near the end of this month.

My vote would have to go with Ancient Jedi/Sith or Earth/SW Crossover...both would be pretty interesting.

Thank Chewie I appreciate the honor.( Or tomatoes if nobody goes for it. :P)

I figure we should have our theme for the Ultimate Group Project by the end of the week, so I don't see the harm in letting the cat out of the bag. This one is going to be a little bit different.

My idea is this. This months Customiser Challenge is going to be a design contests of sorts. The theme of the contest is to design what UGP world's police force looks like.

Everything pretty much goes as usual, and at the end of the month we post our finished product. We will then post the results in a poll, and let everyone vote on which one they like the best. The winner will then be the basis for next months Group Project where we will all make a figure based on that design for the piloce force that helps the stormtroopers on our new world.

By weeks end we should have something more concrete about the theme but now is a great time to brainstorm and go wild.

So what does everyone think of that?

I personally love the idea.  The only thing I'd change is call them either a Security Force or Patrol Team rather than Police.

I'm with Chewie - I think that a Security Force is a little better idea.

We could then use storm/clone trooper combos as well.

I know I haven't posted any customs yet, but I really like this idea since I getting ready to start working on my own Security Force for my own planet that I came up with. I finally got all the parts I needed to make members of the planet's Security Force and now I also got a few plain white clones to customize into my own legion. My planet's name is Oktooween and the clones stationed there will have a black/orange paint scheme. The Security Force figures will be based off the Cloud Car Pilot figure with Madine arms, a different helmet, and a few add ons here and there.

I had an idea for a Security Force using Captain Typho torso, Captain Panaka arms, Count Dooku legs, and some kind of other helmet. I am not sure what it will look like though. I don't have photoshop so I can't really put the pics together.

Title: Re: Monthly Customizing Challenge #15?
Post by: Kit Fisto on July 3, 2006, 10:20 AM
I think it's a great idea. But I have something to comment:

If the "winner" of the design contest will be the prototype for all of the securtiy force team dudes, we should think about using parts that don't need TOO much modding, parts that can be found easily and parts that can be used to army build these guys. By the looks of it, this project is going to be huge so we will need HUGE numbers of army builders I think.

Oh, and I don't think I 'll have time to participate and enter a custom, but I might find the time to doodle a design for one of these guys, is it ok if I just post a drawing when it's done?
Title: Re: Monthly Customizing Challenge #15?
Post by: Nirvana on July 3, 2006, 11:33 AM
Well, this sounds like a great idea, and an effective way to begin building up figs for the UGP.

I agree with Kit Fisto here, we would need a base fig as our security member with a set paint job and colors so we don't run into huge discrepancies with the security force.

Title: Re: Monthly Customizing Challenge #15?
Post by: stormtripper on July 3, 2006, 02:53 PM
I have started one of these and I am using parts from the imperial guards (red) and cloud car pilot. I don't think that just using 1 base figure is a good idea, especially for those that are going to make a squad. Using a long ladder is good as long as you have enough rungs... sorta speak.. I am stocked about this project as I like having fringe characters to break up the mundane.. I will submit my entry even if it is agains't the jedi councel ( my qui-gon jinness) ;D
Title: Re: Monthly Customizing Challenge #15?
Post by: Darth_Ennis on July 3, 2006, 03:02 PM
Thats why I said to go wild. Just do the custom you want to. Do n't worry about which parts to use. Have fun designing this, well, figure out what to do afterward. I do not want anyone to be limited because of potential fodder.

I understand where youre coming from as far as that goes however. But dont worry about that. If we have to make subtle changes to make the rest of them look the same next month then so be it. Were customisers we make the impossible look easy. ;)
Title: Re: Monthly Customizing Challenge #15?
Post by: CHEWIE on July 3, 2006, 04:51 PM
That's true too.  Just make whatever you want for this, and we'll decide what seems to work best for the planet, based  on design and fodder available.

For a security force though, I am thinking the planet won't need a legion, just a squad.  The Stormtrooper ranks should outnumber the local security I think.

BUMP!!!!   :o

Ok, I think we are going with the idea of a Custom Security Force figure for the planet in the Ultimate Group Project.  We all make our own custom figure for this, and then we will decide which design we like best, and link it to the Group Project for an upcoming month.

Jeff - can we make this a sticky topic?  Also I sent you a PM regarding some of this in conjunction with another idea, but I don't know if you have had a chance to get to it.

Judde Lulos Security Force

This is a Security Force Solider. I assumed he would be the grunt part of the security force. I set him up sort of like a  "rent-a-cop" cause i figured the imperials wouldn't want a bunch of indigenious troops running around with big weapons whether they were collaborators or not. He has a Comm link, a small blaster pistol, and a baton. He has the power to call for imperial help and bully civilians, but thats about it  :P

RECIPE:
Head-BOB,Ultimate soldier XD(which would actually make a pretty cool Kal skirata head  :P)
Body- Garindan
boots-clone pilot ROTS
Pistol+holster- Evo clone ep3
Helmet- BOB,Ultimate soldier XD
Baton-captain piett POTF2
Comm reciever on helmet- General veers AT-AT commander helmet
comm link-garindan

I figured an officer would be needed, but i could find appropriate head gear for him.  :-\  he is basically meant to communicate to the imperial garrison all of the "going ons" around the city such as civilians to watch out for and things like that.

RECIPE:
Head-Obi wan Ep1 (modified)
Body- Count Dooku Cinema Scene
Hands- Ric oliee'
Stun Pistol- modified Senate security rifle
Binders- Evo ep2 anakin accesory

No problem Jeff!   ;)

Commander_Miseria - Nice idea for Security forces.  I like the consistent paint scheme and the difference in outfits - it's subtle but adds more life to them.   Very good work and a great entry, especially making two of them helps make it seem more realistic.

This is my concept for a security force officer for the UGP. I decided to keep the concept simple, using easily accessable parts, so it can be replicated. I wanted the Security Force Officer to have the look of a cop with some Imperial elements.
LMK what you think.

Very cool looking Fritz.  Maybe a bit too many Joe parts; however, I think its a great looking figure.  If we went with something like this.  Maybe we could save some money and have one of our resident master mold makers cast some parts (especially guns and helmets).
Title: Re: Monthly Customizing Challenge #15?
Post by: CHEWIE on July 19, 2006, 12:35 AM
I think it looks really good Fritz.  It will take a great entry to top that.  I think that it has a GI JOE and Star Wars element to it, and he kind of reminds me of Robocop! Great use of parts.

And, here is my entry for the Monthly Customizing Challenge this month -

head - SAGA2 Death Star Gunner
helmet - SAGA2 Death Star Gunner
body - VSTC Scout Trooper
blaster - VSTC Scout Trooper
staff - VSTC Sandtrooper
shield - SAGA McQuarrie Stormtrooper

Not too much to it, which is what I was going for.  Something simple with no painting involved.  That way if it wins the choice security force, it would be a piece of cake replicating it.  And I really don't think these parts are too hard to come by, or won't be soon as I know the Death Star Gunner just came out.  Very simple to put together... nothing to it really.  And at first I wasn't going to go for an Imperial look, but I just couldn't help it.  I thought it would help show the Empire's Iron Fist and wanted to go with something really simple so anyone who wanted to make one wouldn't have any problem doing it.  And of course, not all of them would need shields.  Heck, Glassman migth even be able to cast some.

Hope you guys like and curious to hear your thoughts.

 :)

It looks decent... I actually can't say I'm too thrilled with this one. Sorry Justin. :-\

The part choice is excellent, you can hardly go wrong with DS gunner and VTSC Scout parts. I was planning something similar if I can find another gunner. But I'm not really liking the contast between black helmet and gloves and the white armor. I think my real gripe with this one though, is that it looks too Imperial. These guys are supposed to be locals helping the Imperials, not Imperials themselves.  I think that it'd look better if you were to remove the Imperial logo and maybe use the logo Vator made, or make your own. And I think the armor's color could be changed up so it isn't all white or black, they seem to be the two main Imperial Armor colors. I think a navy blue and white scheme could look pretty cool. You could at least change the helmet so it is white instead of black.

It makes sense that the Police would use Imperial styled armor if they are being supplied by the Empire, but they'd change up the uniforms and logos. When the US supplies another country's military, they use our stuff, but they alter the colors and logos to fit their own nation's uniforms, that way they aren't wearing US uniforms around.

Here's my WIP on a potential Security Guard.  I went with Chewie's "minimalist" approach in making this guy easy to reproduce and not use too many different parts.

The recipe is pretty straight forward:

Head - Firespeeder Pilot
Torso - Garindan
Arms - Garindan
Holster - Garindan
Bandolier - Hem Dazon
Legs - Firespeeder Pilot

Now, my question for the group.  What color should I paint this?  Paint the torso to match the arms or the legs to match the torso or paint the lower torso and legs completely different?

I'm also thinking about adding a bit of greenstuff to cover up the slight gaps in the inner thighs.

Any thoughts and/or advice on how to proceed?

Recipe (not a whole lot of thought went in, just pieces I had that seemed to work):
Body- POTF2 Garindan
Head- OTC Luke Bespin with sculpted 'stache
Helmet- some SWAT helmet cut down a bit
Chest- POTF2 Sandtrooper Pauldron turned sideways
Belt and leg belt- pieces from ML Omega Red

Paint was black wash followed by grey drybrush

I really think we should use BrentS's idea, except we should leave out Hem Dazon's Bandolier so we don't have to use three different figures.

CHEWIE, I really like your idea too, and it looks very cool, but I don't think that many people are going to be willing to give up a VTSC Biker Scout, and a new DS Gunner.

Brent,
Fritzkrieg and you should combined your customs, which would make a great security force for the UGP. I like the basic look of the body (Garindan/Firespeeder Pilot), but the helmet doesn't do it for me. It would look cool with the helmet and head that Fritzkrieg used on the figure pictured in my post. I would even like to see the body armor in place of the bandolier on your figure too. Great custom though. I think there are many great ideas that everyone has come up with.

These are all fantastic designs. I'm very impressed with the level of creativity you guys presented. I like them all.

One thing that makes me wonder is how easy it will be to make multiples of these guys. Some of these parts may not be as easily available as others.

I too am very pleased with all of the creativity that went into these designs. I'd like to see them all appear in the dio if at all possible.

One quick question though. Is there anyone that still needs more time to complete their designs? I know I do, as embarrassing as that is to say. I basicly scrapped the idea I was working on and started another halfway through.

If theres anyone else wjao still needs time let me know, otherwise well start the voting probably monday.

HAHA, personally, I really think Pen''s turned out great, and that was by accident. I can see them doing security work very easily, and If we have sponsorship by GTG, shields and Helmets won't be a problem.

PenDragon's is great, but the DS Gunner would be the problem for most. I haven't even seen this figure in stores yet. So I would only ask how easy would it be to get 15 or so DS Gunners?

At retail cost even! 8)

Oh, and FoxtrotDelta (over on FFURG) brought up an interesting point (perhaps by accident).

If you do go with the GTG/DSG guys I mocked up, then Fritz's silver-helmed dude would look great as their squad leader/captian!

Not that there is anything wrong with the figure, but I'd rather not use Pen's or Fritz's, as long as they have clone heads anyways. The Security Force isn't the Empire, so they would have any Jango clones. Not that the Empire does either, but that's a different story all together...

The base figure and the helmets look great, just not the head. I think if there were to be different heads on them it'd be fine. As is though they don't get my vote.

I totally agree. I didn't mean to suggest that they were clones. Just that the over-all-look was kinda neat. I'd hate to see Jango clones here, but the face would be easy enough to change out.

apparantly great minds think alike. I was going to suggest this very same thing with Fritzes as the commander.

You are right about not having clone heads, but seeing as this was just a mock up anyway this shouldn't be a problem. A simple head swap and that sweet little badge thats on Fritzes and well be in business.

That pic is sweet Pen.

The ones that have their helmets on, you won't be able to tell they are clones, the only ones we will have to change are the ones that don't have their helms on.

This version does not have the clone Head. I think a mix of the GTG version and the Saw Viper versions would make a very cool looking Security force and give them a little diversity.
