Kubricks / Re: Recent Acquisitions

I saw one of those carded for oh 200$ at C4 ::) :P

In case you're not referring to the Blackhole, that's what I paid at CIV for the Max Rebo set.... I'm such a fool!

So I finally finished unpacking from LA and opened up Luke.  First off, I notice that he has one greenish blue eye and one brown eye....not cool.  I start looking at the clothes (never knew the black shirt underneath was the tunic from ROTJ) and I notice his holster is broke, the back clip wasn't attached to the belt.  I thought his shirt underneath was just a T-shirt.  Oh well, he's articulated well (as usual for SS) and comes with extra hands but I doubt I will change to them.  It's not the best figure from them and the eyes really kill the hole thing.  I am curious if anyone else has 'bad' eyes or not.  If not, I will call up SS and see if I can get a replacement.

I opened up Luke last night but didn't notice any issues with the eyes- I'll take a closer look.  I DID notice the tunic though- front flap and all.   I decided to change out the hands just because I'm not a fan of the "closed circle" hand pose but the alternate hands were a chore to get on.  The wrist joints seem quite limp compared to the other figures as well.   Definitely an improvment over the Hasblo piece, but a $35 improvement?  I'm not convinced.

Jocasta's Reading Room / Re: Jedi Master Tholme???
« on: June 5, 2007, 02:29 PM »
I think Jude Watson should make a novel on Quinlan Vos and it would tell what happened to Tholme.

I wonder if any of this will be flushed out in the new Clone Wars animated shorts?   I'd think that Order 66 wasn't just a one just "just in the movie" kind of thing- just the beginning of the hunt to destroy the Jedi.  It probably took years before the rogue Jedi were hunted down by Vader.
There are so many things in the SW universe that we need flushed out.

Other Collectibles / Re: Master Replicas SW Poker Chip Set!
« on: June 5, 2007, 01:27 PM »
Yeah, it's been gone long ago I'm afraid. I was looking forward to the set too. Oh well, c'est la vie.

I know.. I was totally looking forward to it... But now Cartamundi will be having a poker chip set (I pre-ordered mine at CIV).  They don't even mention it on their website but they had the prototypes there.   Granted, they're plastic, only in 3 colors (Green, Red, Blue) and 4 faces (Yoda/Luke, Vader, and I forget who was on the blue- Obiwan?).   They do glow in the dark though.   It's only a 250 set though and will run around $150.  I've been looking for SW poker chips for a while now so I of course jumped right in.

I am not just 4 Very Rares short of a set for these (yes.. I whine and complain, but.....) and my favorite is by FAR the Landspeeder with Luke and Ben.   The Wampa is also a fantastic sculpt and the storm commando (think biker scout but in black and crouching) is just plain cool.   I also like the new Jabba and Ephant Mon.

Least favorite sculpts:   ALL 3 Han's, Leia (face worse that POTF2!), Mara, and Aurra are just terrible with the face sculpts.

Anyone got any Very Rares for trade?

Oboewan

I don't know....

On the issue of painting quality in WOTC minis, I'd have to say I'm more torn then ever.

I just purchased 5 boxes of these and some like the Boba Fett and Yuzzan Vong look awesome while many others looked poor like the Aurra-Sing and Luke. Even the DST looked horrible as well-despite his poor paint job, he had extra plastic sticking up on his helm that wasn't removed by a sculptor and instead painted over as well--lame ::).

Then again, I saw some that Matt had and they looked decent. Well, since I only have 35 figures, I'll withhold judgement for now. From what I've seen so far, there's a drop in paint quality over the other WOTC SW lines.

Hmm, I didn't realize that.  I always that WOTC was a fully independent company.  I should have known better in this age of corporate buy-outs and mergers.

WOTC was bought by Hasblo in Sept 1999 around the same time Lucasfilm took away the license from Decipher.   Then we got the "new TCG" and so on and so forth.    :'(

LEGO / Re: Celebration IV Exclusive Mini-Figs Set
« on: June 5, 2007, 08:59 AM »
$50?  Ouch.  Granted, the packaging is very cool, but that's pretty harsh for 5 mini-figs.

As for the price on eBay, you sure are right Dale.  $150!

It was $25 from what I recall.   You had to win a raffle in order to purchase it.   My buddy got himself one.

Kubricks / Re: Recent Acquisitions
« on: June 4, 2007, 12:37 PM »
Well.. I just made my 2nd Kubrick purcahse when I was at CIV.   My first was the TIE Pilot cause he fits perfectly in my LEGO TIE Interceptor.   I saw the Max Rebo set way atop the shelf of one of the vendors at CIV and started to drool.   If I have a collecting focus, it's the OT aliens- more specifically, the musicians.   So I had to drop the money and pick them up.  Now to just find a set of the Modal Nodes (6 will do)

Tip from the Hasbro reps at C4:

These WILL be available through Disney's toll free # for orders, and if you place an order and want a complete set of all five, you should tell them that you want an UNOPENED case of the Cantina figures.  There's two of each of the 5 different figures in each case (you'll need to find a friend in need too if you just want one set).  They said if you simply order a set of 5 Band Members, odds are you won't get one of each, since the Disney folks packing the stuff up won't know the difference between the (instruments of the) various Band Members, once they're all opened up.

I don't recall the price right now either though.

I was told the same at C4 and also found out that the bases are exactly the same and don't interlock (old news?)  I'd like to get one (Doikk) just to get the base.  Otherwise- they're the same as the cantina tins figures.

I just finally got around to taking them out of the shipping box and was pretty impressed.  Unfortunately, my Sgt box was torn at the top but I'm an opener so I really don't care (not worth the hassle sending it back I think).   I can't wait to free them up and display them with the rest of my Endor 12" stuff

What happened at the MR party?

Where to begin?   Matt Fox and I (I was his guest) wandered out of the convention center and heading for what looked like a gathering crowd.   The email from MR basically said there would be a double decker bus leaving at 7:15 for Jim Henson studios at 15 minute intervals, ending at 8:15.  Well... we're just waiting and waiting and nothing came.  We saw a red bus pull out with a bunch of people on it and eventually heard it had left with the celebreties and VIPs.  Then a small black shuttle with Phil Wise drove up and took the first 14 people and he confirmed we were in the right spot.    That was about 7:45ish and I had a few friends from DC get on it.   By the time the next bus showed up it was close to 8:45.  We got to the party in about 40 minutes and had some nice BBQ and chose not to pay $5 for raffle tickets or a key to open a chest to win an MR Falcon.   The gift bag was a total joke and only the members (not their guests) got one.   There was some pretty ok lightsaber combat routines, crappy white and red wine, diluted light beer, and sodas.   After our friends who DID try for the MR Falcon had their turn at the lock and failed, we headed out looking for a ride back.   Got in line up the block and waited.   And waited.  Finally a bus came and there was a surge from inside the studio so those of us in line didn't actually make it (me being now first in line).   Again.. no more buses... we're now past the 10:30 contract time for the buses and three of the black shuttles came but were ONLY going to the Omni.  By then the place had totally cleared out except for a few MR folks.   They spent some time on our behalf talking to on of the shuttle drivers (only one left there) and finally convinced him to drop us off back at the convention center.   He ended up dropping Matt and I off at the Holiday Inn so that was cool but by then it was like 12:30.   Complete waste of an evening IMHO.  Would have much rather gone to one of the Con hotels with some of the DCSWCC folks.   Talk about hindsight.....

How's that for my first thread hijack?

So did anyone get the coins? Which did you get? ;D

I managed to hit a couple of the panels and got an Obi, R2, 3P0, Jawa, Tusken, and Vader coin.   I WISH I'd been able to get more, but between things I wanted to see, a double OPX shift on Saturday (Matt Wood was awesome!) and another shift on Sunday, and just things I just had to see- Robot Chicken, Clone Wars Behind the Scenes etc.., there was no way.
I had a great time and the only major downer was the Master Replicas Party... what a nightmare that was
