That is very impressive dude.  I'd love to see a diorama with 2 or 3 of those in a swamp gunning down a droid army.  Very very good.

Once again another outstanding piece of work.  Your attention to detail is staggering, and your painting/weathering are second to none.  That guy looks like he walked right out of the pages of the concept book!

Title: aeseven7's customs *Update April 29- Female Mandalorian*
Post by: aeseven7 on January 24, 2006, 10:46 PM
Work has kept me from doing anything custom-related for about 3 months or so now, but I managed to finish this guy that I had been working on 'off and on' as I had the time.

I always thought Jaster Mereel was pretty cool after seeing him in the Jango Fett Open Seasons comics so when I made my Star Wars Galaxies character 'Alencon Mereel', I made him have the same square type marking that Jaster had. I always wanted to make another Mandalorian that was a little more detailed and so this is the end result.

His left shoulder armor has 'MEREEL' painted in Aurebesh. His right shoulder armor has Jaster's chest symbol painted on as a 'nod' to both Jaster and Alencon, haha. I was going to permanantly attach the kama but left it in case I ever wanted to remove it for anything~ I also modified the helmet a bit on the top to give him a more menacing/tough look and replaced the rangefinder with a small light. And because I'm a Republic Commando-a-holic I added a little detail to the normally all-black visor.

Hope you guys like him.

Great job! ;D
Only thing that bugs me: The spikes on the bottom of the boots. Dont know why.. Its a cool concept but I dont know how well it fits.  :-\
The republic commando touch to the visor  is nice too!  ;)
Title: Re: SWG Mandalorian Commando
Post by: aeseven7 on January 24, 2006, 11:00 PM
I liked the spikes because I figured this is the kinda guy that would be an "All-Terrain" type of commando, and because I really really really wanted to use those boots, lol.
Title: Re: SWG Mandalorian Commando
Post by: jokabofe on January 24, 2006, 11:35 PM
WOW. The paint job on this guy is incredible. I love what you did with the helmet, too. And I always liked those boots  ;)

The only thing I'm not crazy about is the kama... I don't know why but it kind of looks out of place, IMO.

Great job nonetheless, keep up the amazing work.
Title: Re: SWG Mandalorian Commando
Post by: Darth Delicious on January 25, 2006, 12:25 AM
This is an amazing piece of work, aeseven. You never fail to impress.

The visor looks great, I love the nod to the Republic Commando armor, and the removal of the viewfinder was a nice touch; I like the "Predator" style sight you added. The kama looks good and the boots were a great addition...this guy looks ready to throw someone a serious beating.

The paint job is what really impresses here though...I love the muted colors, and he looks gritty and realistic. The aurebesh is a great detail and not something you see often in customs. Very well done!

Now, can I have it?  ;D

I think the figure looks awesome, but aren't those boots from the POTJ Cold Weather Training Obi-Wan not Qui-Gon?
Title: Re: SWG Mandalorian Commando
Post by: Darth Delicious on January 25, 2006, 04:22 AM
Yeah, those are Obi-Wan boots.

As for the helmet mod, I'm guessing an AT-TE Gunner Helm was modified then painted. I could be wrong though...that could be the work of some killer sculpting.

Title: Re: SWG Mandalorian Commando
Post by: aeseven7 on January 25, 2006, 04:31 AM
Thanks for all the feedback guys!

Yup, those are Obi Wan's boots, i always get those two EU figs of qui-gon and Obi-Wan mixed up.  (thanks DD for setting the record straight!)

There really isn't too much to the helmet, just the basic VOTC Fett helmet with the top three sections sculpted on.  I wanted something original yet kind of RC-like:)  I wasn't entirely happy with the helmet until I painted it. . .seems like that's how all my projects are, they look like crap until I get some paint on them, lol.
Title: Re: SWG Mandalorian Commando
Post by: CHEWIE on January 25, 2006, 10:24 AM
I already replied in more detail at RS, but I'll echo here that I love this custom.  The parts are a great match, and he really has a realistic proportioned body.  But the painting is what really sets this one apart from similar customs I think, the weathering is so "embedded" - very lifelike.  Wonderful work.  You ought to turn this thread into an updated thread from time to time so it's easy for us to find your work.   :)

 :P
Title: Re: SWG Mandalorian Commando
Post by: jedistyle on January 25, 2006, 10:35 AM
wow aeseven7, this is an awsome custom.

the parts choice's are great and the color and weathering is just sick! i like the obi-cold weather boots, the spikes on them are very mandalorian. the sculpting on the helmet is very well done and gives him an original look. his accessories compliment him well, all together a great piece of work and one of my favorite customs i've seen recently! great job and thanks for sharing it with us! :D

is that a custom blaster? the pouches on  his front look like jango fetts, how where you able to get them transfered to boba like that? thanks.

B,  This is another amazing figure from a long list of amazing figures.
I love the paint job on him. He really is nicely colored.
And as usual, i love the little details you pour into your figures.
The helmet light, the shoulder insignia.. Thats what makes you one of the
great ones in my opinon!!

Now update your site!!! ;)
Title: Re: SWG Mandalorian Commando
Post by: Quazar on January 25, 2006, 11:16 PM
This is an original, inventive and simply wonderful Mandalorian custom.

Extremely innovative use of parts accessories - the kama skirt, the pauldron, the boots.  He really doesn't look like just another Boba with a paint job, but a fresh and original character.

And, of course, the painting is absolutely top notch.

This is really terrific.  I tend to think that Mandalorians are a bit overrated, but I love this custom and it's probably the best custom Mando I've ever seen.

Title: Re: SWG Mandalorian Commando
Post by: Ruprecht on January 26, 2006, 12:46 AM
I really like all of this one, especially:

The helmet - The lines on top just slightly resemble Republic Commando helmet lines, but it's very subtle, yet it gives it a meaner look than the stock Mando helmets

Boots - The spikes help set him apart from the largely flat-footed assortment of SW figures

Clipped pauldron - I've never considered doing that myself, and it looks awesome

Leather-like pouch belt - Where is this from?  I like it at the top of the kama.  He could store all kinds of killing accessories in there.

Excellent work over all. This guy tooks like one tough Mamma Jamma. The helmet is sweet, I like the add ons. The boots give him a very rugged look. The Baccara chest armor was a great touch as well. All together a very solid custom. I may have to borrow a few of these Ideas. ;)

Post by: Jesse James on January 27, 2006, 06:15 AM
Aeseven,

That's a really great custom you have there for a character I'm not too familiar with.  I think I know who Jaster Mareel is from Bounty Hunter though (bare-armed Mandalorian BH guy?  Hates Jango?).

The colors match up to what I recall of Mareel's outfit...  They're unique.  I like the Republic COmmando nod with the visor too, a nice little touch.  I'm more into how you mixed up his duds though.  Like the pack on his back, if it's the one I'm thinking, is a small reserve parachute for the Elite Force WW2 figures and has a knuckleknife on it perhaps?  I can't see the pack too good but that's cool to me, and good use for that.

The aurabesh lettering is freaking awesome by the way.  I've dl'd aurabesh for my computer so I have it incase I want to print it out and use it for something (anything) in the future.  More people should make good use of the SW language like that as it's seen routinely in the films.

The gun looks cool and like a similar, but definitely unique weapon to Fett's sawed off blaster.

The Kama of course sets him off that much more...

If I had much of a suggestion, it's a removable helmet, but that's about it from me.  That's really cool though man, good painting for certain too.  Very nice man.

Holy crap.  This is by far the best EU Mandalorian I have ever seen.  The paint apps are fantastic (as usual) but the overall design of the character is really well done.  I love the little tweaks (head lamp instead of antenna; kama; boots, RC visor), they look very Mandalorian-esque.
I am also working on a Mandalorian custom yesterday but you've raised so high!

I had so much fun doing the first Mandalorian that I decided he needed some more squadmates. When they're all finished, there will be five including the first one I did. I was gonna have only four, but thats too much like Republic Commando plus there was always more Mandos in a squad it seems like.

I'll be posting more individual pics soon, but this is the only pic that actually turned out decent. I haaaaave to get better lighting, lol, fluorescent is just not cutting it. Seems to wash out a lot of the detail:(

In any case, here's what the next three look like:)

wow those look really nice. i'm most impressed with the paint apps on these guys. the armor looks like real painted metal, the depth of color and layering you have achieved is something that is rarely seen and sets your Mandalorians far apart from others i have seen lately. i like the addition of the bandolier with the bullets on it, that's a nice touch but not over the top. excellent work!

Man, these are some of the best Mandalorians I have ever seen.  The paint apps are really impressive and the mods and accessories that have been added really add a whole new dimension to these figures.  They make each one unique and its own figure and character instead of just a repainted bob fett.  great job.

These are beautiful! Very cohesive look.

One question though. What are you doing for painting the joints? I recently made a mandolorian custom with the VOTC Fett body, but found that even when I sanded down the joints so they wouldn't rub, the paint still rubs off.  I was thinking maybe dying those areas but wanted to get your technique first. Thanks!

I love looking at these things, I showed them to a freind of mine and he was completely blown away. So impressed was he that I think youve inspired him to start customising, because he wants one so bad. All night last night that was all he wanted to talk about at work. I beleive he is currently combing the shelves looking for a Boba Fett. ;D Youve done good son, youve done good.

I however am interested in the female one you are working on. In this months SW Insider there is a cool article on the Mandos, and in that article there is a pic of a female. Im hoping to do that one myself, Ive got a few ideas kicking around but I havent actually started anything yet.

I like them all, but the new one with the air hoses is just freaking sweet. Excellent job.

Are these for sale?! I've *always* loved the concept of Mando Commandos, but I've never seen them executed where I didn't say to myself "looks like a (insert color here) Boba Fett to me". THESE, on the other hand, are so unique... so NOT Boba Fett or Jango Fett.

Man, these guys need a PN or some kind of story... individually I would call them among the best we've seen on these forums. As a group I'd call them fodder for a video game franchise! :)

Hey aeseven,

I am *really* loving these, and can't wait to start some of my own. I'll be working on some this weekend, and what great inspiration you've given me!

The paint apps on these are simply wicked, and the guy with the WWII head looks amazing. What a great use for that particular noggin.

I love all the little helmet accoutrements; and hints as to what you're making them out of, or is it all sculpey?

Title: Re: SWG Mandalorian Commando *New update March 3*
Post by: aeseven7 on March 3, 2006, 06:44 PM
Ah yes, the joints, lol.

I tried EVERYthing I could think of to keep the joints from rubbing the paint off when I pose them and I finally found a method that worked!

. . .I repaint their joints after i pose them for pics then i never move their joints again!!! lol  But seriously, I sanded them down, and tried keeping the paint as uniform as I could and still couldn't get the paint to stay on after I moved the elbows and knees.  I finally just figured that I'm not the type that likes to move around my customs anyways. . .so they'll just have to be happy being in the pose that they're in. . .forever!

DarthDelicious-For the Black Mando, the two small lights on his helmet is from a GI JOE accessory, I can't remember who its from but I believe it was a COBRA agent.  The larger addition to the helmet was sculpted. . .not too difficult since it just follows the contour of the helmet.  The Orange Mando's was a little more difficult.  The small piece on his right side was the butt of a weapon, the rest was sculpted following the contour of the helmet with some small details added in.  The Red Mando's helmet (which hasn't been completely painted yet) is more basic with just an additional light on the side of the helmet.

Darth Ennis-Thanks for the compliments!  Glad your friend liked them too:)  If he starts customizing, make sure he posts his stuff here for us all to see.  I'd love to see some more Mandalorians:)

As for the female mandalette, as far as looks go it's gonna be VERY similar to the "Mandalorian Wedding" pic thats been floating around and is in an upcoming issue of SW Insider.  I haven't decided if I'm gonna stick with the same paint scheme (Boba Kneecap Yellow) or go with a more 'german infantry' look.  I'll just have to see what kind of Mando personality she takes:)

Darth Ennis-

I'm using a Droid Factory Escape Padme as the base since it's the best sculpted female base that I've seen that will work and that doesn't have stupid action features or anything.  Since I used VOTC Fett's for my Mandos, i want to keep the figures looking somewhat SA.

The armor will more than likely all be sculpted, I know the chest will be for sure.  I may see if i can make the shoulder and knee armor from Fett work but we'll see.

Smartypants1635-

Thats the exact reference pic i'm using to make my mandalette.  Lucasfilm skipped me again and so I had to pick up the recent issue of SW Insider that had not only that Mando pic but a few others as well.  :)

OK wow.  They are all fantastic.  Your painting skills are phenominal and I really like that each Mandalorian has a unique look to him, yet they still look like a "squad" when they are all standing around together.
I think the one with the kama is my favorite (I think it was your first one), but they all look badass.  You really need to take a few pics of these guys assaulting some Trandoshan outpost or something!

For mine I was thinking about using a ROTS Luminara. BUt then again that seems to be the body I always use, they were abundant and very well articulated. Sculpting the chest armor is probably the only way to go, BUt as far as other peices of armor have you thought about modifying clone armor peices.

That was the idea I had. especially since I had so many extra shoulder pads lying around. ;D
Title: NULL ARC Trooper- Fan Concept
Post by: aeseven7 on April 23, 2006, 02:13 AM
Finally a new custom!  This time revisiting the whole 'clone' line:)

Well, ever since seeing the Fan-Fiction NULL ARC Trooper a while back, he seemed like an interesting design and I really wanted to make him. I wasn't too keen on the helmet (reminded me too much of Neyo's which I'm still luke-warm on) and so I opted to modify a Clone Pilot's helmet (which I always thought would make a tough looking helmet if repainted.)

I took some liberties on the backpack, but I wanted it to look a little RC-ish, hehe. Hope you all like it.

Post by: aeseven7 on April 24, 2006, 06:40 PM
Thanks guys:)  I don't know why Hasbro doesn't make what is so obvious to me some of the cooler characters in the Prequel Trilogy as far as Clones go.  They SOMEhow missed making Cody in the original ROTS line, and the idea we 'might' get a Neyo, Galactic Marine and Paraj/Fox Trooper is insane.  Irregardless whether they had a lot of screen time or not, tell me one kid who wouldn't look at any of those clones and buy it based on the 'cool' factor alone. . .I know I did as a kid.  In fact, when I was younger I looked for two things when buying a figure:

1-Screen-Accuracy.  Especially with all the Batman related figs.  I found it was pathetic that Kenner could make a million different suits for batman that he didn't use in the movie but it was like pulling teeth to get them to make a version of how he looked in the film.

2-No. . .Action. . .Features!!!!  I HATED them.  When I was playing with my figures, I wanted to be able to have them perform ANY manuever I made up, but if my figure was limited to only being able to do a 'karate kick' then it was no good to me, lol.

Ok well sorry to get a little off-topic, lol. . .just always kind of gets me going thinking why it's so hard for toy companies to make what we want. . .not what they THINK we want.  And I don't buy the "Well kids are the biggest market out there" line either. . .I can't name ONE kid who owns a Star Wars Custom Chopper. . .lol.  So yeah, back to the custom. . .

For those who are interested or don't know already, here's the recipe:

-Base: EVO Gry Clone Commander
-Backpack: RC Scorch (modified)
-Rifle: Clone Wars ARC Trooper
-Chest Strap/Holster: BBI Elite Force
-Left Thigh: Styrene holster, misc equipment
-Right Tigh: Clone Commander Holster/Pistol. Fodder for V. Blade.
-Boots: Apoxie Sculpt mods
-Belt: SA Clone Belt, Padme Disguise pouches (2)

You always make some great stuff... and I know it's supposed to be a type of ARC, but I wish this was more of what the Commandos were supposed to look like.  Your design is much more realistic I think and looks better.  Very well done.

Finally done! Took a while, and seemed like it was a lot of work, but she's finally finished.

First I'm gonna apologize for the photos, its early in the morning and I'm tired, but when I'm more alert tomorrow I'll take some better pics. . .these seem to have washed out all the color!

In any case, at least these will give you an idea of what she looks like right now. Here's a quick recipe for anyone who's interested:

-Base: Factory Escape Padme (forget the ACTUAL name of the Padme figure but it was later in the Saga 1 line)
-Forearms: Padme in AOTC gear
-Cape: Mon Mothma
-Belt: Various pouches from fodder bin
-Knee Armor: SAGA Boba Fett
-Holster: VTSC Greedo
-Shoulder, Chest, belt buckle, and back plate: Was sculpted.

Hope you like her:) . . .and um. . .just ignore the Derlin base, lol.

I was wondering when you'd get around to showing us JDers your Fem Mando. the sculpting is perfect and the Body glove is stupendous. The soft goods integration is good but I think her Kama is a bit to bunched up ( thats what makes it flair to the the sides) Is the Padme arms wearing the Removable parts jango gauntlets?

wow.. all of your mandalorians customs are all top notch and your female Mando is no exception.  She looks great.  I'm impressed with how well the padme base worked for this figure.  The mods you did look top of the line. I like how you added the kama/skirt to her.  You paint job really puts this figure over the top for me.  The colors for her are perfect.

Well I don't want to diss that hard work anyone else put into their female Mandalorians, but I agree this is as good as it gets.  I've seen others that are very well done but with the sculpting you did with the flawless meshing of parts and painting, this is truly a work of art.  I think it's the best custom I've seen you make.  Simply amazing.

This is fantastic work! I am really just in awe at how convincing this piece is. As someone else noted, most of the people who have done female Mandalorians in the past seem to have had a bit of a hard tim, especially converting female bodies into ones that ressemble, say, the Fetts, or ( a less effective path) converting a Fett body to resemble a female's. I really love this piece; it's another Aeseven7 masterpiece!

Aseven, I've been admiring this custom for a while.  Definitely takes the cake as far as most Mando customs I've seen are concerned (and it's not just because it's a female! ;) ).   Very original and cool indeed, and the parts really go great together!  I love how "everyday" her face looks -- she looks like a real person, someone you'd meet in the street.  (Well, except for the Mando armor, I suppose!)  It was only by really squinting close to the monitor that I was able to recognize the Pilot Padmé head -- GREAT job transforming that piece in to something completely different, and wonderful work with the sculpting all around.  Keep it up!

Only one tiny, tiny thing... are you going to put flowers in her hair, as in this reference picture (http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB7&Number=1843872&Forum=f7&Words=female&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Main=1843872&Search=true&where=bodysub&Name=&daterange=1&newerval=1&newertype=m&olderval=&oldertype=&bodyprev=#Post1843872)?  Would be a nice little touch, methinks... :)

Keep up the great work, and happy customizing, as always!

Post by: aeseven7 on May 4, 2006, 11:32 PM
Thanks EVERYone for the feedback!  I really appreciate all the nice things everyone has said, it means a lot!  She was a lot of fun to make, but not one I would want to do again anytime soon, lol.

To answer a couple of the questions. . .

The gaunlets are Padme's from that Pilot Disguise with pieces of guns, etc glued on.

I considered putting the flowers in her hair but that seemed to be more of a 'Wedding' detail and while I DO plan on making the red-clad Mando standing beside her, I wanted her to look tough and 'battle-ready' next to my other mandos:)

As for the helmet, I opted for a non-functional one.  Since I was sculpting the hair, the helmet would have to be larger than what it actually should be to fit over the hair and I was more intent on keeping the size of the helmet smaller than your average male Mando bucket.

The tummy 'wrap' was sculpted using Apoxie-Sculpt.  The tough part was getting it to be thin enough to look like a wrap but still adding some detail to it.

Post by: aeseven7 on June 28, 2006, 05:27 AM
I don't get nearly enough freetime these days because of assorted real-life stuff, but these are some of the projects I've been working on. Some are very close to being finished (little more weathering or small details here n there) while others I'm not quite satisfied with.

Commander Bacara would have to be my favorite clone from EPIII so I decided to get him looking a little more accurate and this is the result. I also replaced his 'thick' antenna on his helmet with a thinner metal one (sort of hard to see in the pics though because i painted it black).

Bly still needs a little more work, but I think he's getting there. First time using Apple Barrel and Americana paints and while the AB held up nicely, the Americana was only so-so.

For Cody, I decided to copy everyone else and swap the lower half of the legs on him so he's slightly taller and is able to stand a little less oddly. I also swapped out his puny head and sculpted on his scar and added a light 'fade' to his hair around each ear since that was one of the small details from the movie that I liked. Also replaced his antenna with a metal one. . would have liked to get a smaller, shorter antenna alongside the larger one but i dunno. . .maybe in time, lol.

The 41st Elite Scout Trooper (or BARC Trooper as i find myself calling it out of habit) was a lot more work, lol. Had to convert the SA VTSC Scout all over for it to work. Swapped heads from the Deluxe BARC Trooper and borrowed his leg pouches and the two lower belt pieces that hang from the smaller straps.

The Shock was basically a custom I had done already, I just decided to use Hasbro's Shock Helmet and weather it a little since it looked better than my original one.

Paint jobs are friggin cool  8)!!

I really like the way Bacara looks. Did you use a washing technique to get some of his amor lines a bit black? And did his visor get a coat of high gloss?

The BARC looks very good. And you used the right helmet! There are two small, but very important differences with the Biker Scout helmet: 1) the nose piece and 2) the visor. I like the term BARC better as well, by the way. Ever noticed their face mask looks like a dog's snout? Hence, 'Bark' Trooper  ;D

Your custom skills are just top notch.  I love the subtle improvements you made on each clone character.  I'm curious, is your shock trooper based on a Hasbro painted Shock or from the clean #41?  I'm guessing its a clean clone.  Also, did you do anything to correct the height of Cody?  From the group shot it looks like you might have.

Brents-
The Shock is actually from a clean 41 I made when they first came out in the ROTS line, lol.  The head I made I was never 100% happy with and so once Hasbro put out theres I kind of just. . .swapped, hehe.

I swapped out Cody's crazy lower legs with a little longer and definitely straighter SA Clone's to allow for a proper stance and a little added height.  He's still not as tall as he should be, but it's an improvement.

Smarty-
Individual pics are now up over at RS.  I held off posting the group shots here because I knew all you guys would ask for individual shots and I didn't want to tease you guys until I had all of them ready for you to look at as a whole:)

What I always like about aeseven7's customs is that they look so much like an actor in a suit. Very fine details are your speciality. Make sure its in the group project for this month.
