Title: Celebration 3 Pool Games? or Bowling?
Post by: Famine on March 6, 2005, 10:16 PM
I was thinking about the Fantasy Leauges, and I thought, hey, we could do a JediDefender Celebration 3 Softball game one evening durring the con at a park, or maybe a game of touch football. I don't wanna hurt you old timers. (KIDDING). If everyone brough a glove, I think it's doable.

Who would be in for such an event?

I suck at softball! Football is much better, IMO.

I'd say either billiards, foose ball or bowling... definitely not good at anything where a ball is thrown at me... not even a softball...

Okay, anyone know of a good place?  I've heard that Jillians is a sports bar inside the Omni, but I'm not sure if they have tables?

I think there's a way we could kill 2 birds with one stone.

Generaly, every Bowling Alley that I've been to has a pool table. I just now noticed that Princess suggested bowling, and that too is good by me. Pool is also a great idea.

I'm going to do a little google research and see what bowling alleys indy has, pool halls too, and see what options we have.

Kevin

EDIT: Good news! There are 27 Bowling Alleys in Indianapolis. Bowling Alley Listings (http://phonebook.superpages.com/yellowpages/C-Bowling+Alleys/S-IN/T-Indianapolis/)

There are also 8 pool halls in Indianapolis. Pool Hall Listings (http://phonebook.superpages.com/yellowpages/C-Billiard+&+Pool+Halls/S-IN/T-Indianapolis/)

I suppose we can now come up with some ideas for a collective meeting place?

Just a question of what the C3 schedule's gonna look like.  I'm definitely down for shooting some stick, but that was probably already a given during some of our evening outtings.

Bowling?  If there's an alley nearby, and the whole crew was down, I'd be happy to showoff my hardcore bowling skillz.  183 average back in the day.  Yeah, I'm that good, and that much of a loser, so shut up!   :-*

Softball/football?  Doubtful, as that would cut into valuable daylight hours of either recovering from hangovers and/or spending time in the convention.  Plus, I'm rather fragile in my old age now...

Another thing I was thinking about wanting to do out there with everyone was go golfing.  But that doesn't seem too feasible, since it would take up the better part of a whole day.  Maybe if we had all stayed through Monday night, we could've gone out on Monday after the convention was over.  Oh well...

Haha! Now I really wanna bowl. My highest game was a 211. My lowest game was a 76. I am teh god, or teh suck, depending on what ball I use.

One of those Pool halls is a resturant as well...I wonder if the food is any good.

question is- is there anything available w/in walking distance of the con?
I tried looking last night and it didn't seem to pull anything really close by, but they have a lot of those black light bowling places it appears...

You aren't familiar w/ this?? I thought all you young whippersnappers knew all about this... it's kind of neat... and it's not usually really, really dark, but dark enough to glow...
when I went to the Indy site there were several lanes listed- I was looking for pool halls, but they cross-referenced...

Oh yeah, that's fun - Glow Bowling!  Blaring music, flashing lights, glowing shirts.  I still only bowl 100, if I'm lucky.  But it's a good time!   :)

Okay, so we have another vote for bowling...
I bowl around 150- but I have on occassion let go of the ball too soon and then, well, it goes the wrong way...
Would we have enough cars/transport to get us to a lane?

We have somthing remotley similar here called Rock-n-Bowl. It's kind of sick really. First they blare music over the speakers. Usualy rock or rap. Then it gets dark, and the place fills with smoke, and then some lights come on, and occasionaly the lanes light up along the sides with those stupid rope lights, and then they kill more lights, make more fog, and at the end they play sad country music, and at that point I feel like suicide. Then they suddenly air out the fog, turn on every damn light in the place, and then yell at us to leave.

I'd sure like to try this glow bowling if I got a chance.

My car can hold 4-5 people, providing I actually get MY car and don't use one of the family cars (still 4-5 people), and I'd have no problem making extra trips, seeing as it cant be that far.

I found a lane that's only 2 blocks from the Convention Center:

Jillian's Entertainment:

This way we could avoid driving anywhere.

cool, I had mentioned Jillian's before- somewhere- and actually my understanding is that it's in the mall complex- which is attached to the Omni Severin- which is where I'm staying.  It's supposed to be a very cool place to hang out- a sports bar type of place...
are we going to 'play by ear' or pick a general time/date?

I figure we play it by ear untill we get close to the convention.

I'm in for a night or bowling in Indy even through I'm not that good at it, usually bowl 90 or so.

Yes, just for your info the mall does have several bars.  If I remember correctly there is a small club type bar - dancing - for the younger set like late teens early twenties.  The sports bar is more for any age.   I believe there is at least one other one.

Just to let you know they are usually packed and packed some more.  At least the few times I've been there with my friend who in Indy.

I'd be in for some bowling too if the timing works out for me. Perhaps I can drag a couple of the FFURG guys with me, I believe one of them is like a pro or something. Ok maybe bring him would be a bad idea... :P

I think Jillian's is starting to sound like a pretty good idea for either Friday or Saturday night.  Bowling, pool, drinks, cookies...  That should work for must of us, I'm sure.  I know that a couple fellas like Brian and Ed may only be in town for Friday night, so that may be the way to go.  Anyone have a scheduling conflict with that night?

So we'll tentatively plan on Jillian's for Friday night (and maybe Saturday too if it's happenin').  Maybe some more Hooters somewhere along the way too, if you're lucky.  :P
