Watto's Junk Yard / Re: I'm going to bald, whose coming with me!
« on: April 1, 2003, 03:24 PM »
No baldness in my family, sorry. I've always had a thick head of hair, although the hairline has always been high. When Episode I came out I had the Qui-Gon 'do (two feet long, top knot, sometimes braided), but after having long hair for five years, I decided to go Padawan. People didn't recognize me for weeks.

I'll probably grow it out again once I get a lot more grey, but I swore if I ever started to go bald, I'd just do a Picard Maneuver and shave it close. It's just hair.

How is your load-time?

Lately pretty good. Sometimes I need a magazine to pass the time, but I can usually pinch one out pretty fast.

Saga '02-'04 / Pegwarmer of the Year Award
« on: March 29, 2003, 12:19 PM »
April's right around the corner, so I thought it might be a good time to get everyone's concensus on which figure was the biggest pegwarmer of the Saga line.

I just got back from my local Wal-Mart and it's pretty obvious which figure is in abundance around here. I counted 52 Taun We figures. Luminara Unduli was a distant runner-up with 25 figures with 24 Royal Guards a close third. There were a couple stray Endor Rebels (goateed, of course) as well as a trio of Destroyer Droids, but that was about it.

What really bugs me is that these pegs, 16 of them just for those top three characters, are considered precious real estate by Wal-Mart's toy buyer. If a product stagnates, it should be clearanced or sent back so new product can get to the pegs. Two of these figures are almost a year old for cryin' out loud!

I heard KB is having a huge Star Wars clearance sale soon to make way for new product (smart move... finally). TRU has bins filled with Yoda, Destroyer Droids, and Clone Trooper Pilots, which makes me wonder if one of them will be next year's top pegwarmer.

What about your area? What's still lingering like unwanted guests?

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: How long have you collected SW?
« on: March 26, 2003, 05:22 PM »
My first figure was the Vintage Chewbacca. I saw him all alone on a peg at Fay's Drugs in February of 1978. Well if you have Chewie, you have to have Han. And they'll need someone to fight, so I had to get a Stormtrooper. Then a classmate gave me a bag of others for free (his dad "worked for the place where they painted them"  ::) ). By the end of that summer I had all twelve and my collection was complete.

Until the following spring when I discovered X-wing Luke, R5-D4, Greedo, Hammerhead, and some Walrus Man guy. "They're making MORE?!" Wow, I had no idea!!!

...and I've been collecting every 3 3/4" figure ever since.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Academy Awards...
« on: March 26, 2003, 12:14 PM »
I heard the 75th Academy Awards was the least watched broadcast in history. I was one that passed this year who usually watches most of it. I just didn't care about many of the nominees, although I'm sure they each gave great performances.

Maybe if they had more fistfights or something...

Good luck, Chris. Glad to hear you've got a sugar momma to help in your transitional period.  ;D

Sounds like you'll be back in action in no time!

I have an infected ingrown hair that feels the way that looks. Otherwise, cool pics. I need to get a telescope for my son so we can study the moon's craters. I always enjoyed doing that when I was young. (That and peeping on Lana Lang!)

Saga '02-'04 / Re: New JD poll: Most wanted VEHICLE!

Easy: Sith Infiltrator.

I'll need one roughly the size of the Queen's Royal Starship playset/vehicle, with a storage bay for a Sith Speeder (or two), folding wings, and an exclusive figure pack-in of Darth Maul's EU assassin droid, C-3PX.

I'm part Hispanic and I can tell you it's a combination of smoldering sensuality and a passion for living. Hot and moist, they are the embodiment of their lush, tropical environment. Latinas drip intoxicating sexuality. And they're quite good at previewing their bedroom technique on the dance floor, expecting the same from those who dare to court them. They are burning embers of raw desire, bold and untamed.

(Great. Now I need a cigarette... and I don't smoke.)

Welcome, Auriette, from a fellow Vintage collector. Glad you could make it. As someone who's been around the online Star Wars block a few times, this is a unque place. I hope you like it as much as I.

See you on board!

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Who did you pretend you were?

No really. I'm The Batman.

Early one Sunday morning, I awoke to the sound of small children outside my window. As this was pretty odd, I lept from my bed to investigate. Peering out my window, I saw a short parade of kids, aged 3 - 7, apparently walking by themselves, until an older child caught up to them saying, "Wait up, Mom's gotta rest."

Sensing a damsel in distress, I donned my costume (a grey t-shirt with a black bat-emblem and sweats) and rushed onto the sidewalk. Up the street was a young mother struggling with crutches as she attemped to make her way from the nearby hospital to her home a half-mile away. I asked if I could give her and her children a lift, and she quickly took me up on my offer.

I darted back to the bat-driveway and drove the batmobile (disguised at the time as a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am) around to pick her up. I assisted her into the passenger seat as her kids scrambled into the back. She was all smiles and "thank you's" as she told me how she came to this predicament.

A short drive later and we were pulling up to her apartment. As I helped their mother out of the batmobile, one of the children asked, "What's your name?" I puffed out my chest, prominently displaying the bat-symbol on my shirt, and replied very seriously, "I'm Batman." (The kids seemed quite impressed. ;) )

Mom blessed Batman and I climbed back into the cockpit. As I made a quick U-turn in the street, I could hear the children shouting, "Thank you, Batman!" as I sped away.

I only wish I'd had my cape.  8)

I was Joe Johnston. George Lucas would have been cool, too, but I really liked Joe's designs. I guess if I could have had George's money and Joe's vision, that would have been fine.  8)

(For the record, I'm still Batman.)

Embrace the fat.

(Kidding.)

When I was a senior in high school, way back in the 1900's, I bulked up to a remarkable 130 lbs. Then I graduated and immediately contracted mono, along with ascending paralysis (temporarily, thank God). In the process I lost 18 lbs and was back to being skinny as a rail.

Every ounce I put on after that was flab. The freshmen fifteen, the deskjob twenty, very little of it was muscle again. Add to that a leg break (thanks to my pooch) two years ago and you've got a relatively pudgy PL.

I gave up some fast food for Lent for the first time ever just to see if I could do it. I'm not really missing it. On top of a slightly modified diet, I'm walking every morning and evening with the dog (leg-breaking son of a...). Next is to get back into a simple regimen of post-walk morning exercise and I'll be replacing Tobey McGuire as Spider-Man in no time.  8)
