The Vintage Collection / Re: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 9

I walked into an art store today and did a little tap dance after I saw all three of the new figures from this wave freshly stocked on the pegs, including a "Revenge"-card Vader. Being that my local Targets are in a state of who-knows-what, this is probably the only chance I'll get to buy them.

Wow. This episode was better than the last three. The Gungan vs. Grievous duel was intense!

Here's a MAJOR spoiler for next weeks episode titled Shadow Warrior for those they may want to watch it.

You've been warned. ;)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmlAc5sDR48&feature=player_embedded

Is the Gungan fighting Grievous who I think it is...?

The last 3 episodes had no real depth to them like the Savage Opress arc of episodes did.

And was it Filoni or the Separatists that never really thought out the plans for the clone prisoners? Think about it: they're all underwater, kept alive presumably by oxygen tanks. Those tanks must fail/run out eventually, right? I would have liked to seen the Separatists at their worst by disconnecting all of the clones' apparatus and thus drowning them in the process.

Where do you guys catch these online? Are they on SW.com, Hulu or do you download them?

With last season, the episodes were put up on SW.com the Monday following their release.

Not disappointing, but definitely not on the scale of last season's opening. To be honest, I'm tired of seeing Anakin and Obi-Wan thrown into every battle there is (good thing Obi wasn't in it, but yeah). It's very redundant. I don't get why Padme was there to begin with.

Like someone said above, this battle didn't feel like a global conflict. The shark baddie design was odd, I'll be happy when this arc is over.

Maybe this doesn't have anything to do with Star Wars, per se, but since this probably wouldn't be a story without Lucas' latest round of tampering, I'll post it here.

Steven Spielberg Regrets Altering ‘E.T.;’ Will Release ‘E.T.’ and ‘Raiders’ on Blu-ray in Original Forms

Quote
On Tuesday, Steven Spielberg appeared in LA after a screening of a new digital print of Raiders of the Lost Ark. The print was created from the same new master files that will ultimately be used to create a Blu-ray release. And in a move that will likely delight fans, he expressed regret over alterations made to E.T. a few years ago, where guns were digitally replaced with walkie-talkies, and says that the Blu-ray release of that film will be the original 1982 version. His comments also suggested that the few digital tweaks made to Raiders of the Lost Ark for its 2003 DVD release might also be rolled back.

We’ll have another piece with other good trivia bits that came out of the post-screening talk, but the E.T. and Raiders blu-ray comments are below.

In his early comments after the Raiders screening, Spielberg highlighted that the audience saw the original version of Raiders as seen in first release.  He crowed,

This is the best I think it’s ever looked, because in preparation for the eventual release on blu-ray we had to correct the print again and get the original negative out of the salt mines, and then we had to do the separations, and basically the files, which are just amazing, with all the technology of today, without changing any of the movie materially, we haven’t removed anything, we haven’t added CGI, there’s no digital enhancements! It’s purely the movie you some of you may remember from 1981.

That suggests that even the few digital cleanups made for DVD, such as the erasing of a snake’s reflection in protective plexiglass, won’t be on the new blu-ray, which is great to hear.

Later, he said,

Quote
For myself, I tried [changing a film] once and lived to regret it. Not because of fan outrage, but because I was disappointed in myself. I got overly sensitive to [some of the reaction] to E.T., and I thought if technology evolved, [I might go in and change some things]…it was OK for a while, but I realized what I had done was I had robbed people who loved E.T. of their memories of E.T. [...] If I put just one cut of E.T. on Blu-ray and it was the 1982, would anyone object to that? [The crowd yells "NO!" in unison.] OK, so be it.

Maybe if George took some tips from his pal Steven Spielberg...

You may have gotten your wish. Is the new Quinlan Vos supposed to be from TPM?

WOWOWOWOW. :o Well, I guess I can call that I predicted it?

Yes, the upcoming Vos is based from his appearance in TPM... It's hecka funny that I called for that and Hasbro actually made it. Vintage card and all. And the figure sculpt looks good, too, I can't stand the terrible CP versions, the facial likeness are all wrong. Well, kudos to you, Hasbro. :-*

Found the new CW Plo Koon at of all places, a Walgreens.  Never mind the fact that it was $12.99.  As a result I passed.

I've noticed that my local Walgreens is putting up figures from the Armored Savage Opress wave one-by-one. Yeah, they're $13, but I'll buy that Savage if I find it, because I know it's gonna be a pain in the ass to find at retail.

What do you think the odds are that in 2012 they'll dig out Maul's Sith Attack Speeder for the deluxe line and give it to Savage Opress. Maybe the Gungan cannon will return, too...seems less likely, though, even with Gungan set to appear on TCW.

Oh gosh how badly I hope that happens... :-X

OR (please be reading this, Hasbro) just deliver the all-new Maul that's coming up soon and retool the speeder so that they can be included in the line - it would be like the set from 1999! Think of how fast that would sell at retail!

Wow! The sculpt is great! - however, I don't care too much for the headsculpt. It may just be me, but it looks like she must have a giant brain because her forehead is just huge, and that strand of hair across her hair makes it seem worse. Still picking her up though.

Since Lucasfilm was obviously paying a hell of a lot of attention to ROTJ for the Blu-Ray edits, I hope they fix the lightsaber strikes. I was watching ROTJ today (I've become very interested in it after all the hooplah going on) and here's what the critic in me wants to see fixed:

1. Nearly all the lightsaber strikes have no effect on anything! For example, when Luke slashes at people on Jabba's Barge, there's no glowing mark. Similarly, right before he chops off Vader's hand, he hits a bunch of railing and the railing doesn't get cut in fact. There's not even a scorch mark! It degrades the saber to being just a normal sword, in a way.

2. Right as Luke is looking at his gloved hand after defeating Vader, gaps appear in the white core of his lightsaber. It's like his lightsaber is shortnening out (maybe that's why he tosses it aside? ???).

3. In the moment leading up to Luke chopping off Dad Vader's hand, you can see both their shadows on the floor in an aerial shot of them. However, you can also see shadows of their lightsabers. Is this supposed to be like that - do lightsabers make shadows? I thought it was established they didn't. Oh well, I'm sure George knows.

I think TFU has run its course.  TFUII wasn't popular, and at this point I'm glad they're capping that series.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a "TFUIII: We're Not Finished Yet!" within the next year.

And the final cut of the movie doesn't indicate it as well as it might, since the scene with Vader, Moff Jerjerrod and the Royal Guards was cut.

Can someone explain what that scene is about? I found a picture of it for the first time ever a few days ago, and I really want to know what goes on here.

It's funny, the other day I was watching ROTJ and I rewinded the Vader "Moment of Truth" a few times... and then I heard today that there's a scene where Vader shouts "Noooo" now...

Filler characters until Grievous comes along, only existing because we can't have the Jedi battling movie characters, that would mess with the flow of the next film (Oops...someone forgot to tell Filoni and Company...."I'm twice as powerful as when we last met, Dooku!"....."Ah, yes on Tatooine...no, I mean when were prisoners of those space pirates..."  :P)

There better not be anymore Grievous vs. Obi-Wan duels. It's very old. I can count 3+ duels between them in the TCW series already.

There better be something special about the upcoming Anakin vs. Dooku duel. Maybe Anakin has a dark side moment and is about to deliver the killing blow but is interrupted somehow. That would make the duel in ROTS even better.
