The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Whose Side Are You On Anyway?
« on: June 30, 2005, 03:48 AM »
Hmmm, more chinks in the EU armor. :)

Plus it doesn't jive with Mon Cal AND Quarren being Alliance members (though it doesn't refute it really either, it just doesn't connect without some explaining).  I think it's all very confusing.

Those quoted explanations are not bad at all though, as far as having the story jive with the CW toons...  Perhaps that splinter group of Quarren (the isolationists) are the ones who betray the Mon Cal and Quarren to the EMpire?  Perhaps they switch sides, basically, and become the loyalist group and that ties them to dropping the shields and stuff...  Though some stuff seems to imply that Mon Calamari is a world under seige more than one that is under the thumb of the empire, at least at some point, and that their ship  yards are the main ones pumping out Cruisers for Alliance Fleets...  That's if you believe that line of thinking (that a planet could NOT be subjucated by the Empire, should they want to subjucate a planet).

All very headache inducing.

Yeah, I think the technology isn't caught up to the concept perhaps.  :)  I knwo games that interact via this kind of technology can be buggy...  Well, Duckhunt worked great on NES I guess, but I digress.

I haven't tried the plug & play games myself...  I should.  I gotta get caught up on my video gaming! :)  Thanks for the mini-review of the game Taminar.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: New Clone 5 Pack!

This sounds a bit better than what the 3-packs MAY turn out to be.  Sounds like Hasbro's pushing Clones a bit more but it's very disappointing to hear about them being exclusives, and especially ANYTHING going to Target who are hit and miss with their exclusives.

I know TRU is the better company at getting more of their stuff in and on the shelves.  Target has dropped the ball on too many occassions for me to totally trust them with handling this properly.  And now, what will price be?  Oh well...  We should know soon enough.

Well, it looks nice...  It's a neat novelty item to me.  I was happy to put an order in I think.  Would love a repainted one to match the one Astro in Mos Eisley.  Just have it continuously roaming the streets. :)

My ideal would be three SAs side-by-side in the bubble on a normal Deluxe card.

The packaging on the Evolutions is overkill, especially for an army building set where 80% that are sold will be ripped open anyway -- carded collectors only need one, but openers will buy multiples. And it could shave a buck or two off the retail price.

Besides, these clone sets aren't truly Evolutions since it's three of the same type of trooper.

Part of me thinks that's the best option too...  3 SA's on a deluxe card with just the right gun (rifle, given that we have a ton of the carbine at this point).  But the idea of the Evolutions styled box (not "Evolutions" figures though, just a reuse of that packaging style) would be ideal if you were getting MORE accessories...  Just thinking outside the box on that a bit, but not expecting it.  But I could see zip-lines, a rocket launcher, various weapons...

I agree that the Evolutions packaging would be overkill if you got nothing additional in there...  I saw the EE Clones as overkill on the packaging too, being something you couldn't buy on sight, and for army building...  Selling it in a store makes the packaging slightly more important.  I'd be more than happy with 3 SA's on a Deluxe cardback though, but I'd be ecstatic for 3 SA's in an Evolutions styled box with a ton of different gear...  Just doubt it happens that way...  The one thing I know I certainly hope not to see is the Deluxe Clones reused and that's seemingly everyone's first thought, so I'm not too pumped on this line right now...  Should be interesting to see in the coming weeks (and/or months) what is what.

Well if ya have 2 open the other one and find out then. :)

It doesn't have knee joints, and it's left arm is limited in movement a bit, but the right arm, ankles, and neck all move like most of the other Clones can.

An interesting custom without a doubt.  I think I'd dig one with cloth robes, and it may make a nice "future" custom project...  I think it looks almost like a pseudo sniper.  Reminds me of troops in the Battle of the Bulge.  Improvised "camo" and warmth...

Very neat looking, and accurate to the pics I've seen.

The Quarrens in CW were not my favorite episode.  Neat elelments to that, but poor execution I thought overall...

My opinion is that perhaps the Quarren are playing both sides and the CW toon is simply wrong...  Not hard for me to accept that given my dislike for that episode for the most part, so I simply ignore it.

Come time of the Imperial era, some EU says both Quarren and Mon Cal support the Alliance...  Depending what you read.  I like that.

Episode 1 / Re: What's your favorite vehicle?
« on: June 29, 2005, 05:02 AM »
I agree that the AAT is pretty nice.  Not sure on its scale, but it seems close and they did good with the hatch.  I was only miffed at the lack of a "real" interior.  The lame-ass feature of the exploding cockpit thing, with the painted figure and all that...  Not swift.

To me, the AAT was a pretty solid attempt though...

And E1 didn't have a lot of good stuff to pick from.  I think it has the worst ships/vehicles of all the films.  I will say that the Gian Speeder is one I'd have liked to have seen done and done properly.  The Flash Speeder was a letdown since it was so damn tiny.  Nice idea, piss-poor execution.

The N1 Fighter was a bit more the same, as was the Queen's Ship...

Episode II was a far greater effort out of LFL's designers to make "Star Warsy" vehicles.  The ships in E1 just fell flat.

See, now that's good thinking Hunter! :)

I was thinking how sweet it'd be to have him re-issued in grey (be nice if they tooled some new legs and headsculpts for him too though) so we could build a nice Tech army too.  I've come to the conclusion these are Gunnery Officers or Pilots off-duty myself, and would love some grey Army/Tech guys to pile into dioramas since they were like fly-dirt in the film.

It's one of those figures though that, even if he wasn't changed at all, I'd buy another 10 or 20 of him as he is.

The Skirt is most definitely glued to him at the waist and also on his ass cheeks.  "Bummer", literally.

I picked my Tarkin up and never even noticed till I was examining him closely (after I opened him) for this gig I have.   ::)

So anyway, Jason's thing about the tint (a pinkish color, very noticeable compared to the pants or shirt of the figure) even breezed past my radar when I picked the figure up but not when I was studying it close.  It's really rather distracting looking.

I have a 2nd Tarkin figure on Lay-away that I gotta go pick up in a while and I'm gonna check him over good.  He's a fodder figure so I'll open him and do some side-by-side comparisons.
