That looks really cool!  Combine that with the cantina bar sections that were in some of the exclusive packs, and it makes for an awesome set.

The Black Series 3.75" / Re: Realistic Clone Wars Wants?
« on: April 5, 2013, 09:22 PM »
A realistic version of Cody seems rather redundant.  Wasn't he done in the TVC line, after all?  Certainly, Hasbro could try to achieve some savings by offering that figure up again as a live-action Clone Wars offering.  But doing so seems a little disingenuous.
Not if it was the phase 1 version. It is more than just a different helmet.

Agreed.  And on a similar note, Hasbro could offer both phase I and phase II armor Rex's.  But if Hasbro is truly interested in bringing Clone Wars characters into the realm of realistic figures, there are certainly some more interesting choices than a character like Cody.  Especially since we've seen at least a couple of realistic renditions of Cody since 2006.

As for other CW characters that would be worth translating into live action renditions?

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: A Game of Thrones (HBO)

I was pretty much expecting to see Ser Barristan as soon as they showed the recaps of Season 1 & 2 at the top of the show.  They very deliberately showed the scene where Ser Barristan quit the King's Guard in Season 1.  The whole Dany storyline was very compressed, as well.  But all in all, it worked.

The scene between Tywin and Tyrion was easily the best acted scene of the episode.  Peter Dinklage and Charles Dance play these roles amazingly well!  And I definitely appreciated when Cersei said that she had heard that Tyrion had lost part of his nose in the Battle of the Blackwater.  It was a good nod to fans of the books who may have taken umbrage to Tyrion's wounds not being more severe.

I suppose that final scene in the season 2 finale was meant to stand in for the onslaught of White Walkers and the Whites against the Watch.  Still, it's disappointing to not see that in the show.  Game of Thrones seems to be doing very well for HBO, but given the network's business model I don't know if increased viewership would lead to budget increases like on a successful network program.

I'm also a little puzzled by the developments in Astapor with Dany.  I recall that Ser Barristan Selmy had disguised himself for some time as "Arstan Whitebeard" in the book, and had been accompanied by Strong Belwas.  However, I think the disguised Ser Barristan worked far better in the book than it does on screen.  A beard and a cloak don't really serve as much of a disguise for the viewing audience.

I was also surprised to see the Giants come to fruition north of The Wall.  I had thought that was something the show runners might try to work around, but was surprised they included them.

I suspect we'll see what the Stark children (other than Sansa) are up to next week.

The Black Series 6" Figures / Re: 6" Black Series - 2013 Wave 1

Totally did not cross my mind that someone would post a store report as an April Fools gag

Saw a Kyle Reese from the original Terminator movie at TRU recently.  I think that as a whole, NECA has been doing a great job with their licenses.  I actually know a couple of people over there, and they're cool.  But as for Kyle Reese?  The facial likeness just looks off.  The rest of the figure nailed the griminess of Reese from the movie, since he looked like an 80's vintage homeless guy.  But the face just didn't look enough like Michael Biehn.

Nice start to the season!  Although I was really hopeful that we would have seen the Night's Watch fighting the White Walkers on the Fist of the First Men.

The DVR is set, and I can't wait to see the season 3 premiere tonight!  Considering where season 2 left off, I wonder if tonight's episode will kick off with the Night's Watch?

The Vintage Collection / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting?
« on: March 21, 2013, 06:00 PM »
To me, the Medal Ceremony guy is like certain death for the line.  He would be like the Naboo Soldier of 2013.  A head scratcher of a figure that appeals to perhaps 10% of the collector market, and next to none of the kid market.  I think collectors need to be prepared to compromise.  Get on board with a figure line that has a majority of characters with broad appeal, and a SMALL minority of collector focused figures.

If Hasbro is interested in Rebel figures, I can think of a good number of other Rebels that would make for a more compelling figure than Rebel Medal Ceremony Guy.  Like?

Captain Raymus Antilles (RESCULPT)

Wenton Chan - Red 11

General Jan Dodonna (RESCULPT)

Del Goren

General Bob Hudsol

All of these guys are just as much if not MORE deserving of a Rebel figure.  And they're just from A NEW HOPE.  Add in TESB & ROTJ and there are loads of more recognizable Rebels than Rebel Medal Ceremony Guy.

Yeah, sounds like a Con exclusive figure.

Only if the likeness of the figure is that of Bob Iger, and not some extra who was in the actual scene.  ;)

The new paradigm shift we're experiencing in Hasbro's Star Wars line makes a figure like this seem almost like an impossibility.  Sure, Rebel figures seem to be experiencing some sort of a resurgence with collectors.  But THIS GUY?  It seems like so much of a stretch that it's incredibly unlikely.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Star Trek
« on: March 19, 2013, 01:41 PM »
I was very surprised when the news came out that Hasbro was picking up the Star Trek license.  Especially considering how the toy line for the first JJ Abrams movie performed.

And now to see almost nothing (aside from Kreo) when the new movie is less than 2 months away?  It says to me that Hasbro must be hurting financially.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: A thread about concerts.
« on: March 19, 2013, 01:36 PM »
Just bought tickets to see Eric Clapton in March. Not sure what to expect but I'm looking forward to it.

How about expecting a FREAKING AWESOME SHOW! The Wallflowers opened and they sucked (played 6 songs and were out for 45 minutes) but Clapton tore the house down... played for around 2.5 hours and played all of his big hits, plus a few of the blues songs I'm not familiar with. Brought Jimmy Vaughn on stage for a Stevie Ray tribute song at one point.

Money WELL spent.

I've seen Clapton a couple of times over the past few years.  First with Cream at one of their MSG reunion shows, and in 2010 at the Crossroads festival in Chicago.  And he did not disappoint!  I'd love to see him this time out, but concert tickets are a bit pricey.
