Watto's Junk Yard / Check out my movie!
« on: April 29, 2007, 04:19 PM »
Hi everybody,

I haven't been to JediDefender in a while. Last fall, my dad started declining very rapidly from cancer and at the same time, I was campaigning for a new job. In January, I found out that I won an MTV/Amp'd Mobile contest to make a short film. In February, I got the job I was after and shot the movie. In March, I went to L.A. for almost a week to edit the film at the Amp'd Studio, and I started my new job part-time, while still working part-time at my old job. Last week, my dad passed away and MTV made the movie available for viewing online. My last day at my old job is Monday.

If you'd like to check out the movie, please visit my unofficial "Payoff" website. From there, click on the link that says "Watch 'Payoff' Online" - that takes you to the official website (which is still not completely finished, at least, I don't think it is), and click on the text that says "Click here to watch the movie."  I had been sending people directly to the official website, but I have no way of knowing how many hits it's getting. If you go through my page, I can watch the counter go up.  :)

Let me know what you think!

Other Collectibles / Soap & Stuff
« on: November 6, 2005, 10:26 PM »
Newest finds - bubble bath with Yoda and R2 toppers on the caps. Those were at Wal-mart.  At Kmart, I found a little boy's gift set of body wash and a toy razer (not the comlink variety).

My old Ep1 soaps, the gel soaps with the figures inside, have started seeping through the packaging.  The only two that still look fine are the ones that were stored face down, so the soap was against the blister pack.  Does anyone know if gel soap eats through plastic?  I just thought the soap would dry out; I didn't think it would start oozing like that.

Other Collectibles / Gumball Machines
« on: September 25, 2005, 01:34 AM »
Found a couple of cute gumball machines at Books-A-Million today.  I only bought one (my husband was with me); it looks like a miniature version of an old fashioned "put the coin in and turn the handle" gumball machine, with a Vader figure on top.  The other had Yoda on top.  It was $19.95.  It's the first time I've seen them anywhere.

The Wookiee Arcade / Lightsaber Battle TV Game
« on: June 29, 2005, 11:24 AM »
I guess this is the right forum...
This is the plug 'n' play game that uses a seeker ball to track your movements with a mini-lightsaber.  I've been wanting this from day one, but couldn't afford it, then we couldn't find it anywhere, and finally, last night, it showed up again at Wal-mart, and my wonderful husband picked it up for me.

Ow, my wrist and elbow hurt this morning!

It's a little annoying, in that you have to turn off the game and turn it back on to switch players (at least, I haven't found any other way to switch players; nothing in the manual about it).

In actual play, it seems like sometimes it reads my movements, sometimes it doesn't.  Some of the problem could be because I'm short, so the seeker ball doesn't point at my chest the way it should according to the manual; it's more at my head height.  Between that, and the fact I'm terrible at video games anyway, I still haven't made it past Stage 1.

One good point, though -- I don't get a lot of exercise, and this is kind of a physical game, so maybe I'll lose weight.  :P

Watto's Junk Yard / Scion vs. Prius
« on: June 28, 2005, 01:46 PM »
My husband and I are looking at cars.  We did a lot of internet research and test drove the Prius and the Scion XB last weekend.  Now, we're trying to make the final decision.

I love the Prius -- Tim thinks it'll take a lot of getting used to (looking down a "tunnel" to the digital speedometer reading, computer display screen always doing something in the center of the dash, and a slight hesitation when you first push the accelerator).  He's also concerned about a couple of dozen reports that the gas engine can suddenly die on you while you're driving.  And it's more expensive.

Scion still gets good gas mileage, has a lot of storage/cargo space, and drives like a normal car.   And it's cheaper.

So, if anyone here has a Prius or a Scion and wants to share their opinions of those cars, please let me know.  Maybe it'll help!

Watto's Junk Yard / Do You "Enter to Win"?
« on: May 12, 2005, 07:03 PM »
Aside from Star Wars, this is my other major hobby right now, entering sweepstakes.  At least that doesn't cost much, just the occasional stamp to mail in an entry, since I do most of my entering online.  So, I thought I'd share some cool contest/sweepstakes sites:

These are entertainment sites that give away lots of
CDs/DVDs and occasionally bigger prizes:

http://www.thecelebritycafe.com/
http://www.moviefreak.com/
http://www.dvdverdict.com
http://www.emilystrange.com
I actually won a set of DVDs from Emily Strange

And here's a "Star Wars" giveaway that's going
on right now:

http://www.cingularpromo.com -- you can win a
    SW-themed sports car

HGTV, Food Network, and DIY are always giving
away big prizes, like houses and SUVs.

Good luck, everybody!

Fan Art / Dave Dorman
« on: March 11, 2005, 11:12 AM »
I hope EU is the right topic to put this under; Dave illustrates a lot of comics, books, games, etc.

Anyway, I work at a TV station, and this morning I was production our morning show.  Dave was our guest, to talk about his career in general and also his appearance at our local film festival next weekend (he designed the poster.  He and his wife were really nice, and he signed a dozen or so comics that I took in with me.  I really love his illustrations, so I just wanted to come on and tell other collectors how nice a person he is. :)

Other Collectibles / Clocks & Watches
« on: April 22, 2003, 07:58 PM »
I remember seeing the 3PO/R2 alarm clock in the Sears catalog, I think it was, and wishing I could have it.  This was, of course, back in the old days, late '70s.   Since then, I've managed to collect quite a few Star Wars watches; I have several from Bradley, an elegant one I got at Walt Disney World in about '89 that has a black face with Vader's mask outlined in gold, the cheap Hope Industries ones, a few by Fossil (but not many - I have to wait for a sale at the outlet mall).  I got a few after Ep1 at Sears and JC Penneys, but I can't remember the brand - maybe it was Timex - but they weren't real expensive and they were on clearance, most of 'em.  A couple of years ago KayBee had some very small desk clocks with watch-sized faces, but the one I wanted most of all, Amidala, I never found.  And let's not forget the big plush Jar Jar that tells time when you squeeze one hand and recites phrases when you press the other hand.

Anyone else collect timepieces?

Newbies / Long-Time Addict
« on: March 24, 2003, 12:38 AM »
Hi, my name is Auriette, and I'm a Star Wars fan.  I've been a fan and collector since 1977, and while my collection is big (too big for our tiny home), it's still far from complete.  I collect anything vintage, and from the new series, anything Amidala and anything else that I think is cool or is on sale.  I also collect memorabilia related to Harrison Ford or Kenneth Branagh.  My husband and I are hoping to build a house later this year, with a big room set aside just for the Star Wars collection - I can't wait!
