Feedback / Oboewan's feedback
« on: July 2, 2007, 03:17 PM »
Starting a feedback thread for forum member Oboewan (Jeff). Made a deal with him to trade SW miniature
'very rare' class figures. Received my end a 'Luke Skywalker-Champion of the force' -from the Alliance and Empires set...in a timely manner. I recommend Jeff for miniatures trading! Thanks a ton for the assist!

Site Feedback, Suggestions, and Help / GG image database
« on: June 6, 2007, 02:30 PM »
Is there a Gentle Giant image database or did I miss it? I looked in our image database and saw Hasbro and Sideshow but not GG. Is there one in-work to show bust-ups, mini bust and statues? If not on this site where could I find one?

JD Sports Forum! / NFL Offseason 2007

I think the Chargers are going to look at Marty's track record in the playoffs, wonder how a team with SO much talent cannot be ready to play in a playoff game, then look at the coach-- who looks bored with no headset on- trusting a young gun to call plays out there( despite his own playoff coaching record) and then they fire him. OR, if he doesn't win the SB next year he'll be fired, surely. Owners just don't want just awesome regular season teams, they want rings. Marty was lucky to win his last playoff game-- because he had Capt. comeback-General Joe at his reigns.

Seeing as how New England's track record with their current coach and QB, it seemed like the team(chargers) was not prepared well for that--dropped passes, fumblitis, uncharacterisitic defensive breakdowns, stupid personal fouls-- I would blame squarely on the coach. I know he doesn't play the game ..but he's not even communicating with headsets.. how does that look? It's his job to get the team ready and with few exceptions, I don't think he did.

Marty ball IS over (Schott is fired)
Ha! Called it, but it really was a no brainer after all wasn't it though? Seeing his playoff track record and relationship with his GM weren't good.

EDIT: The teams(chargers) loss of crucial coordinator staff surely didn't help Marty's position; if anything, it showed there lack of confidence in him

Watto's Junk Yard / celebreties you've met?
« on: February 5, 2007, 03:38 PM »
I don't know if this is a new topic or not-apologize it is already a topic somewhere.

Anyway, after my experience last Friday at the OKC Airport I wonder how often I've been around celebs and didn't bother to notice...

So, last Friday I was waiting on several flights (being bumped as stand by's) then Walter Koenig AKA Checkov from Star Trek came down and set next to me at the terminal. Before I spoke with him I noticed he was reading a Bob Dylan book--'chronicles'. We shared a 20 min. conversation about flight delays and my military career, kids..ect. Halfway into the conversation I mentioned something to the effect about watching him in Star Trek as a kid and he was understandably short about it so I pressed him no further about that, then-he asked about my destination and from there about my military service. He seemd like a nice man.

Later, after finally getting on the aircraft I was seated 2 seats away from Barry Switzer(ex-Dallas Cowboys SB winning coach AKA 'hot-dog eater'). I overheard he was heading to some event called 'sun bowl'?--something about Texas teams facing the rest of the colledge teams best in a game? Anyway I found it interesting to find 2 folks like this on a commercial flight out of OKC.

It's funny how, when you're growing up, that the actors look big or different. Then you meet them and you're surprised..Water is very short in person, while Barry was as tall as me.

The whole experience really made me wonder how many other times I had been in a similar situation and failed to notice.

LEGO / Typical Lego Prices?
« on: January 11, 2007, 10:33 AM »
What's the typical Lego Price?

I have bought certain sets for my son over the years but for a 58 piece set 9.98- recently?? Last night I got that price for the new SW clone trooper set :o. Not many legos with 4 mini-figs-was thinking 7.98 or 5 something. Am I overreacting on this...is this a normal price for a set that size? Or has price increases for SW moved over to Lego as well?

30th Anniversary Collection / army building questions
« on: December 8, 2006, 09:07 PM »
Just curious of course--

For the army builder out there, Does anyone have huge clone or otherwise type armies with no one to fight. For instance if your thing is clones and you're hooked on 'em, what is their adversary? I mean..if the goal is to have this huge clone army "for the republic" then, is it just for looks or play? Do they have a matching adversary regimen or are the clones just pointing their guns, or marching towards nothing in the room?

My sons' thing is clones..not really army buiding just one of each type loose making for a rainbow troop movement. They have no adversary though for them to do battle against. So you have 50+ troops pointing their guns at nothing and I don't understand it :-\. Is this a behaviour normal amongst army guys?

Watto's Junk Yard / Guitar Hero / Rock Band
« on: December 8, 2006, 01:35 PM »
Who else loves/likes this game? Anyone not like it?
I was skeptical about playing a ridulous video game with a child-like guitar and how stupid that could be until...I tried it out; now, I'm hooked. They even now are selling flying V style guitars at retailers that are wireless to add in the fun!

My favorite song on GHII is Freezepop's-- Less Talk More Rokk. Freebird is a nice one too but extremely hard to do. I'm envious at my Lil Brother he's an expert at the game >:(. Even Wolfmothers' Woman song on the game is 'knocked out of the box' by him on expert level :P.

A fun game though ;) :D

Collector's Tips / Defeat the scalpers!
« on: November 8, 2006, 04:10 PM »
I tried a lil' something this year that worked out well for me.

During the big UGH spring we had this year I not surprisingly noted several greedy scalpers were going straight to SW sections to nabb UGH figs in stores.
Though I got my set, I was trying to get more for not-so fortunate other collectors(not scalpers). I noticed a couple times I had not gone to a store the night before and arrived the next day to find 10-20 cases :o of UGH cases stripped of their 2 UGh per case. When I found out 'through the grapevine' it was the scalpers' doing
- I got pissed and decided I was going to do something about it. I confronted the Scalpers to confirm my suspicions. Instead of doing anything stupid, I devised a plan to USE scalpers greed as my ally. What happened next is what I'm still currently doing...oh, and it's working quite well, too ;).

I studied the scalpers habits and noticed they (as a group) would hustle to the SW section first(since everybody 'knew' each other and they knew I was a SW guy). I guess since they felt I wouldn't go for their HW at all, that they could try to outrace me to my SW section, grab the desirables then rush to their HW section to fight over those Treasure Hunt cars next. I used this knowledge of their tactic to burn them at several stores going crazily to the HW section FIRST and grabbing their cars while they would get my UGHs. This plan worked well enough after a couple of instances that it got them to go back to their old ways and go to their HW section first instead. I was taking their cars- offering up 1 for 1 deals AND THEY COMPLIED!

When the UGh stopped shipping the 'plan' continued to work. Those guys had so many friends with UGH stocked up that I continue to this day to make deals. If I'm at a store alone at night while it's being stocked I take the time to look for my SW as well as HW TH's(because they really come in handy later).  Best thing was, I spend less than 1$ for a car while they spent a full fig price for an UGH. AND..I always do one for one swaps in these deals unless the HW TH is not mint then maybe 2 for one..either way, I still win ;D.

So, give it a try why don't you? Ask around your scalping community to see if you can form a trading relationship with one of these guys..ask him if he can get you UGH 's then ask if they'll do one for one deals (a TH for an UGH). This way you could help out folks that never got them or fill your own collection if need be.
Last I checked the 'aftermarket value' is really close on a new TH versus an UGH figure, so, as long as that holds it's worth a shot ;).

Well it has and continues to work for me still ;D.

Can't wait for this fall....I'm sure around DVD time again(November 1st) we will see the 3rd round of the cartoon DVD sets. Wonder who will be in them this time? Repacks? Rehashes? Will it remain a WM exclusive in 'the states'?

I would like maybe that creature Yoda rides on in Coruscant in the set....thoughts?

If WM has the exclusive rights again then I'm sure Target will shell out their SBP at the same time.

Site Feedback, Suggestions, and Help / PMs... were they read?
« on: May 31, 2006, 03:12 PM »
Is there a read function to assign to your sent PM to tell you if the recipient read or deleted w/out opening..kind of like an email sent in outlook?

If so could somebody tell me how/where it is.
If not could we do that or are we using an unmodifyable system?

« on: April 12, 2006, 01:42 AM »
Taking a moment here to set up Darth Gamboa's feedback thread. A new JD member from the SOCAL region, avid SW fan and excellent trader....Seems to relish doing swaps with folks to complete his collection. I've seen his dealing ability first-hand and can attest that he's a good asset here at JD. Don't hesitate to give him a try! ;D
