Saga Collection '06 / Re: BARC TROOPER!
« on: July 23, 2006, 07:11 PM »
But buy buying 20 whether the figure is "accurate" or not, you're giving Hasbro the green light to cut more corners.  Hopefully they don't get the idea that they should just repaint a VOTC Boba Fett with silver and blue and call it Jango.  Or, hey, matbe they should repaint a Qui-Gon body and call it Count Dooku...I mean, if accracy doesn't matter, they should even bother making any sculpts.

Also, as far as the Vintage figures not being that accurate, you must remember that there was very little reference for us collectors to look at.  In 1978, the only place that I could actually see Walrus man was in the movie.  Today, with all of the books and home video, accuracy is important.  And as I said before, Hasbro has shown us that they can make a very accurate, excellent figure.  The BARC isn't one.

One more thing.  If this was a new sculpt, and accurate to the film, I'd buy at least 5-10.  Since it's not, I will buy only one for my collection.

Speedermike,
I understand your frustration.  I think Hasbro is going to cut corners no matter what.  It seems to be a part of their business ethic.

My support for this particular figure is great because I personally think the VTSC biker scout is one of the best sculpts ever made.  I bought 20 myself.  Like I said, if the BARC trooper is a repaint of the VTSC biker scout with slight retooling; we will only pay $6-$7 for a originally priced $12-13 VTSC figure with a repaint.  It is kinda like the sandtrooper situation right now, almost everyone is eating that figure up.  Plus, the final product isn't out yet.

Now if I said I will be buying 20 of the new #59 clone trooper 5th fleet security with a few new blue markings, then I see your point.  Hope that puts you in a different perspective.

One more thing.  Check out "The final 22 thread".  Pretty much everyone is excited about the BARC trooper repaint.  Jump on the bandwagon! ;)

This set is a nice surprise!  I ordered 2 sets from EE due to the fact that my orders always arrive in minty-mint condition.  Scorch is now officially waiting for his buddies........

I received my figure yesterday and was very relieved it was in excellent shape when I opened it.  Now it's time to work on a second one. :)

If this figure is "movie accurate" I will be buying 20.  If this figure is a repaint of VTSC biker scout with slight retooling I still will be buying 20.  Either way at the end of the day, I will be handing my money over to my pimp, hasbro. :P

Hall of Justice / Re: DC Superheroes

As much as I would like to splurge on these Superman toys like I do on toybiz/kenner- Batman/Batman returns toys, I can't find myself doing so due to the lack of quality of these toys.  The only figures I bought are:

Kryptonite smash Superman: Probably the best figure out of the whole line.
Plus it looks nice in the packaging as well.
Missile launching Lex Luthor:  Superman needs someone to fight.
Space suit Kal-el:  Nice nostalgic Jor-el look.  Plus it's an exclusive.

I wish this line could of been more like the "Super Powers" line of the 80's or like the toybiz/kenner- Batman/Batman returns toyline.

Joe Defender / Re: G.I. Joe Toys Thread

Fans of G.I.Joe and Star Wars, my kind of people!  I just purchased the ROCC from TRU today.  I am glad hasbro is still producing vehicles like this.  It really reminds me of the good ol' days from the 80's! :)

The Vintage Collection / Re: Hasbro Weekly Q and A

I like the fact that as each week progresses, hasbro tries to make the answers sound more human by responding with "Excellent question but, or interesting idea but....".  It's almost like talking to a customer rep. over the phone with scripted answers. ::)

As much as I like the individual uniqueness of Mace's purple saber, I am not sure what to think about these purple clones. :-\    I would go overboard with these if they were all orange.

Well, at least we know we will get orange air-borne troopers in the near future.

I am up to 8 with this badboy.  The magical number for me is 20. :)

The final Fett design is credited to Johnston.  McQuarrie's initial designs of Fett's helmet were not as refined.

I speculate what we see in the picture of the thread is Johnston's design in McQuarrie's artwork?  Looking at the book, both were working on Fett's look at the same time and maybe collaborating on the final look.

If anyone out there has the book, what is your opinion on this?  Funny how I have credited McQuarrie for Fett's look all these years.

I was really surprised by the announcement of the "Sith Infiltrator."  I guess hasbro "really does care." ;) lol

Anyways, I strongly doubt we could fit the "sith speeder" and all the goodies from the sith gear pack inside of the vehicle.  Prove me wrong hasbro.....

Yeah, looks like it.  I was always a big fan of this "all-white concept" look after seeing it for the first time in "The Art of TESB."

Saga Collection '06 / Re: 2006 TRU Clone Wars Gunship
« on: June 13, 2006, 12:40 AM »
I am seeing these more frequently, usally about 4-6 at a time in Chicagoland.
they usally do not last too long. Keep your eyes peeled.

Amazon.com really screwed so many of us on this item. I got confirmation from them that I was one of the first 100 people to preorder on 1/24. I still never received it from them. Same goes for the Hunt pack, I was supposed to get it on 6/2. They still have not updated my account yet.
Luckily I have already found both on my own.

I do not hold out much hope with them for the AT-AT and Xwing...................
bastards! >:(

I went to my local TRU and saw 20 of these babies just sittin there.  I went back the next day and saw 5 or so.  It seems the price is not effecting buyers in my area just yet.

Yeah, Amazon really "dropping the ball" with majority of the public would be an understatement with the gunship and the "Hunt for Grievous" bp.  However, I was more fortunate on the gunships and actually received 2 from them and I preordered in the middle of April.  I can't say the same with the rest of my huge order.  I also managed to find "Hunt for Grievous" bp  so it is "cancel-city" for the morons at Amazon.  :P
