...So make sure you continue posting away right here with all the great folks at JD and then stop by and say Hi to all of us over at FFURG.
If I knew jack about customizing, I'd swing by and join you, but as it is, I just wanted to assure myself of a nice, low member # over there (26)... ;D
Sorry you feel that way SWCD, but with www.FFURG.com being the oldest (known) Star Wars Customizing Resource on the web, from its infancy created through the old email listserver (Still kicking, but something that needs "updated with this forum), I simply disagree.I was simply giving my opinon, I know they are one of the oldest resources around, and if that is so why did a forum take so long? I was just thinking over all of the sites, and after I reflected I realized I was wrong, the dungeon is more of a site for hrmm all customizers not SW ones. I like it I will register I hope evertyhign works out it was only my opinion first time!
FFURG.com's been the place the old guys like Stephen Hayford, Tony Collucci, Gary Weaver, and others really inspired... Guys like Curto, Jason, and the other founders over there really just personify the Star Wars Customizing community to me, and that's why the forums were created.
Not to take away from the forum you mentioned... Just that, as someone with 13 years in the hobby, they still weren't a site I was aware of even... FFURG FForums is an attempt to end that, and to make a name for Star Wars customizing with one large community is all.
Bringing customizing back to is hay-days when the email listserver was TRULY a hopping place, like back in early POTF2 days.
and thanks for pimping one of my cards on our front page jesse ;D
Takes traffic to make traffic... Customs here, customs there, it's all good but the point of the FFURG FForums Customizing Community is to bring all customizers together at a site maintained and moderated by customizers with separate sections for separate areas of customizing...
Do other sites have that?
The problem is, the other site you're hinting at mainly I think CHEWIE, is that the people there want more eyes on their stuff rather than to hear honest criticism... They don't want to hear a critique, but just to get a "Very Nice!" with every reply...
The only way the community and customizing will grow is if customizers try to be a tighter-knit group. It doesn't mean a site's forums like here at Jedi Defender aren't good for discussion or showing off one's wares, but it doesn't help customizing any if everyone flocks to one forum at a collecting site just to "show off" their stuff...
Hell, half the time anyone makes a criticism "over yonder", it degenerates into a fight between people, or it simply goes unnoticed and never responded to because half the people there don't want to be told they're not perfect.
Sad, but true state of the hobby that FFURG is/was trying to remedy.
I think the Clone casting call is a great idea. First because there's just been so many Clone customs as of late, but secondly because the Clone repaints are something I equate to the "astromechs customs of today". Clone color variants are a great way to get into the hobby...
I'm glad a lot of new faces are trying customizing out by getting into repaints. Some are simpler straight color markings applied, others I've seen have really elaborate markings with lots of realistic battledamage... It's good seeing lots of new people try customizing out though, either way you slice it.
Hey Jason, did you get my e-mail? My internet was really wierd the other day, I tried to send a couple of my ROTS Clones but I don't know if it went through. :-\
Jason broke it.
