Title: 6" Black Series Wave 5 (2014 Wave 3)
Post by: Jeff on February 16, 2014, 12:21 AM
Based on the Toy Fair info, it looks like it's confirmed that this wave will be...

1x Ep4 Sandtrooper (Black Pauldron)
1x Ep6 Darth Vader w/removable helmet
1x Ep6 Jedi Luke Skywalker
1x carry forward figure TBD

Vader, yes!  As much as I love the ANH armour, it's nice to have the removable helmet option with the ROTJ armour.

Great coverage on Toy Fair Jeff! Was there any indication as to when this wave would come out? The Jedi Luke is the 6" figure I've been waiting for. Thanks!

Oh wow. I've only picked up Luke and R2 from this line so far, but now I may be in for the long haul...

From what I've heard the Black Pauldron Sandtrooper is a straight repaint with the  same accessories.  The funny thing is the colored part of the pauldron was an insert and the black ones were just missing them.  The original pauldron has the insert and has been sculpted correctly for a colored pauldron, but not for the black one.

Darth Vader and Luke look good compared to 3 3/4" but compared to the high end 12" lack a good deal of realism as to be expected.  I am very interested to see them in person.

Nice wave overall.  Although I'd rather have another new figures as opposed to the Sandie repaint, that is still one heck of a figure and I have no problem getting another version as well.  The Vader and Luke both look amazing.  Can't wait to pick those up and have them dueling on the desk :).

Lord Almighty, that Vader……..

(BTW, his crotch guard is incorrectly over his inner robe. Not sure if that'll be fixed since it looks like the guard and belt are one piece :D)

Need to track down two stormtroopers, and will definitely need to find that Vader.

6" Black Series Wave 5 Pre-Order at EE (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HSA4301E&id=JE-405087801) (4 figures, $79.99):
1x Chewbacca
1x Darth Vader
1x Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker
1x Sandtrooper

6" Black Series Wave 5 Rev 1 Pre-Order at EE (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HSA4301E1&id=JE-405087801) (8 figures, $159.99):
1x Chewbacca
2x Darth Vader
1x Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker
1x Sandtrooper
3x Boba Fett

So, for those keeping track (and complaining on and on about it), we've now had Boba in...
- SDCC Carbonite Block set
- Wave 2 (x1)
- Wave 4 (x1)
- Wave 5 Rev 1 (x3)

Will this be enough to satisfy the "I can't find Boba" crowd?

Should it be?  The only time I've ever seen one at retail was the Disney store and they were about $28 after tax.

I bought one online for $25 and another at B&N for $25.  I also traded a vintage Stormtrooper carded for the SDCC version.  So I will be super excited to see them quickly clearanced everywhere for $10 each.  I love that they included him again as 1x in future shipments, but 3x in later cases is definitely overkill.

Yeah, more Stormtroopers would have been a better choice but at least it's not Obi-Wan again.

What I find ludicrous is the "August 2014" ship date. How the heck are they gonna get that wave out in two months when the wave with Anakin and the Clone Trooper hasn't even started to hit yet? History has shown it takes many months between these 6" waves. (Too long IMHO, these should be hitting every three months)

Seems like kind of a train wreck with all the changes in direction on this line recently.

I haven't watched the ship dates very closely, but it feels like those are always off.  Anyone track these on a regular basis?

I posted this on the yak forum, but I wonder what it all means?  Too many Fetts (throw in Carbonite Han, please)?  Not enough interest?  The end of the line?  A re-do?

I thought Yoda's News mentioned solid Stormtrooper/Fett cases as a possibility coming up, so perhaps they canned this assortment for that possibility?

Retailers may not have been overly receptive towards an 8 figure case, especially with how lightly they have been stocking recently.

Said it before, and I'll say it again - they have no idea what they are doing with this line. They just can't stop jerking around with it...4 new figures per case becomes 3 with a repack, 4 waves per year becomes maybe 3 if we're lucky, Chewie drops out of the Anakin wave, this case assortment gets cancelled, etc.

Maybe it doesn't amount to much ultimately but it really seems like they are struggling with figuring out how to run this line.

I'm sure there's more to it than we are privy to.  It's unfortunate that they don't have a PR group interested in communication with the fandom to help us understand issues like this.  Without any information, all we can do is speculate on their assumed incompetence.

I asked Hasbro about the 8 pc cases going forward and they said their wouldn't be any. Later in the day that asst. was canceled.

I opened up Jedi Luke, Chewbacca and Darth Vader tonight. Initial thoughts:

Chewbacca is terrific, the sculpt and paint apps really seem to mesh well here and even the elognated neck isn't too annoying. The eyes on mine were pretty on point, but still seemed to be the weak point somehow. Maybe the pupils are too small? Sounds silly but it's the only thing that really bugs me about the figure.

Jedi Luke is growing on me more than I thought he would.  You can get a good range of poses out of him, and the two handed lightsaber grab is no problemo. The face sculpt itself is ok, but again the eyes are the weak point here. He's got a real case of puppy dog eyes, but even worse, no matter how you position his head he always looks like he's just staring brainlessly at nothing. Obi Wan had a similar thing going on. I think a scowl would maybe come across better.

Vader bugs me. I noticed in the package his helmet was slightly ajar and after opening him I found I cant really keep the mask pressed down tight to the bottom piece. It keeps floating up and looks stupid. A separate old Anakin head would have been a much better way to go. On the bright side, the cape sewn through the chestplate isn't as atrocious as I suspected it might be. I was able to drape it over his shoulders in such a way as to hide the strings. I gotta jimmy with those inner robes though, they definitely do not look right around the codpiece. And yeah, he needs a neck. It's an ok figure overall, I just wish they had done a little better job with arguably the central character of the whole franchise.

I opened the Vader and Chewie. I love the Vader, but what really bugs me is the wrist articulation. I said it before on the 3 3/4 one, but Vader really, really needs opposite wrist articulation so he can point his lightsaber. It's such a great pose on any figure.

Yes.  I saw them at TRU a week ago (Well, just the Sandtrooper).  Of course, I've never seen the wave previous to it since we're mired in Leias, Greedos, and Hans.
