Title: Riddell Mini Helmets
Post by: JediMAC on April 7, 2003, 03:30 AM
Updated for the C-3PO helmet that's now available over at KBtoys.com (http://www.kbtoys.com/w/l/snb.html/ls/outlet?ls=outlet&txt=star+wars&place=ajnv&searchDropDown=outlet&formInfo=T%7Ctxt%7C0%7C50+H%7Cplace%7C0&formMap=&_e=3ef94&_v=3EF944B4414La9286F93B6F1) (cruise to end of the thread)...

For anybody who's been contemplating collecting this line of Riddell authentic miniature helmets (only 5 in total), KBtoys.com currently has the Darth Vader helmet in stock, and on sale for $30.  If you're interested in ordering or just checking it out, click on over:  Riddell Vader helmet at KB (http://www.kbtoys.com/genProduct.html/PID/62364/ctid/17/ls/collect)

Did you happen to order one of these Matt?  I'd like to hear what other people think of these, because I would like to get one for myself.

Thanks for the link & update!

I picked up four out of the five of these helmets a few years back on eBay (this Vader, along w/ C-3PO, Boba Fett, and X-Wing Luke).  These things are totally sweet!  Highly detailed and very authenticly accurate.  I'd definitely recommend this line to anyone, though there's only a total of 5 pieces to be had here.  I scored all of mine for about $20-$30 on eBay a while back, so I don't know what they're currently selling for now - except for the damned Stormtrooper (who I still need) who is the rare one of the bunch and routinely goes for about $125 on eBay!   >:(

I say it every chance I get; I so wish Riddell could have held onto this liscense.

Im still thinking of getting an extra fett sometime, to make a Jango conversion. There was an incredible one on Ebay a few months back, it looked like the guys at Riddell did it!

What JediMac said!

I got all my mini-helmets at clearance prices, and I love
them.  They are really beautiful and a great addition to any Star Wars collection.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

KB cancelled my order.  Get this:  I used a US address for delivery.  Because my card has a billing address that is Canadian (well duh) they will not process my order.  Never mind the charges would have gone ahead just fine, but I cannot even order.

Oh, I am sorely tempted to be mr. POtty mouth right f****** now.   Grrrrrrr.

Can somebody here give me a hand with this.  Please.

Stoopid KB>

And, in the height of my own hypocrisy, I sent the following note to their customer service department:

Greetings,

just a note to say how remarkably dissappointed I am in KB.  That your system is automated is a pathetic excuse and you are, as such, eliminating a potential market in Canada of 30 million consumers.  That is indeed your choice to do so.

My greatest regret is that I filled out a remarkably positive survey that cannot be reversed.  whereas you received eights and nines on the surveys, it appears that your actual level of service (at least to non-Americans) merits scores more along the lines of ones and twos.

I have never had this problem in the past with various online retailers in the US.  Amazon happily takes my money (though like your organization, will not ship to Canada) as do numeorus other, smaller toy retailers.  Most of the smaller retailers will even ship to Canada, realizing it is just the country next door, not somewhere on another planet.

You can rest assured that I shall not darken the proverbial doorstep of KBtoys again, be it your online service or when I am visiting the United States.  You can also be comfortable in the knowledge that I shall relay this story to as many people as possible, both here and in the United States.  Congratulations on your extremely effective automated system.

Please, in future, when you send emails like you have to me, don't sign them sincerely.  If you were truly sincere, you would have made an effort to process the order.  The credit card is fully functional and works just fine.  The address given is valid and belongs to a friend in the US.

sincerely,

once a potential repeat customer, not so now

US  online retailers that take my money happily:

Amazon (TRU)
Yestertoys
Entertainment Earth
NewForce
spawntoys.com
mcfarlane.com

I'll think of others.  I'm certain the sponsors of this site would too.

OK Brent and Jim - I placed an order for each of you.  Even found a $5 off coupon for you guys!   ;)

Jim, yours is being shipped directly to your house.  Brent, yours is coming to me and I'll fire it off to you when it arrives.  I can hang on for it to show and send it with the Holiday Droids if you'd like.  Probably save you a couple bucks in shipping...  LMK.

I'll PM you guys with the totals!

1 down and 4 to go for you both, sure.  Just keep in mind that the damned Stormtrooper helmet will run you at least $125.  It's been on my favorite eBay searches for a couple years, and it's been going nowhere but UP!   >:(  Plus, you two should both be gracious fellas and let me get my Stormtrooper first, to complete my set!   8)  Then you guys can go get yours...  Deal?!   ;D

Thanks very much Matt, mucho appreciato.

What's your max BIN for the stormie?  If I see it before you, I'll let you have it.  Not sure about all the others.  Have yet to see the X-wing version.  There's a C3PO for $22.99  BIN right now, but recent 3POs have sold for less than that so I'll wait that one out.  Fett will be pricy though.  Not that far off regular retail though, I suppose.
Title: Re: Riddell Vader helmet: $30 at KBtoys.com
Post by: JediMAC on April 24, 2003, 09:16 PM
Ah shucks, ain't you sweet Brent...   :-*

I was just messin'.  Feel free to snag that Stormie for yourself if you see it.   A little healthy competition for it won't be anything new.  Besides, you can probably afford to drop a little more on it than I'm willing to.  When I first started watching it, it was around $75, but I refused to pay that much since I scored the other 4 helmets for between $20 - $30.  Unfortunately, I guessed wrong on this one.  It ain't comin' back down.  Doing just the opposite.

I'd probably BIN one now for the $75 price that I wouldn't spend on it before, but I ain't spending any more than that for it, which most likely means I'll be waiting for quite a while longer.  But my patience somehow always pays off in the end, and I'll get it somehow for a decent price, I'm sure...

Bummer to hear the Fett's gone up more lately.  All 4 of the others were all really affordable for quite a while there...  But the Fett helmet is definitely sweet!

Post by: JediMAC on June 25, 2003, 03:40 AM
Bumping this back up just in case anyone's still looking for the Riddell C-3PO helmet (though they can be had for pretty cheap on eBay).  KB's got one now for $25, but there's usually pretty easy to find $5 off coupons for KB.com, so you can get it for a mere $20, plus shipping.  It's right here at KB.com (http://www.kbtoys.com/w/l/snb.html/ls/outlet?ls=outlet&txt=star+wars&place=ajnv&searchDropDown=outlet&formInfo=T%7Ctxt%7C0%7C50+H%7Cplace%7C0&formMap=&_e=3ef94&_v=3EF944B4414La9286F93B6F1) for anyone interested...

Post by: Morgbug on June 27, 2003, 12:03 AM
Thanks for helping again with these Matt, but I would like to let anyone interested know that they aren't selling real well on ebay either.  Jim (chuckles) and I each scored one for $14.99 shipped :o  The $20 after coupon is a good price, and probably about what ebay asking/selling price normally is.  Jim and I just got lucky.

Neat things these are.  Now, if the X-wing, Stormie or Boba come up and you see them, you are under strict orders to snag one of each for me immediately.  Understand? ;)

elbuggo?!  :P  Ya' beat the poor fella by a penny Brent!  Nice work, but damn that X-Wing Pilot helmet has shot through the roof (along with the Fett)...  Ouch.

And since when did you start collecting the MicroMachines B?
Title: Re: Riddell C-3PO helmet: $25 at KBtoys.com
Post by: Morgbug on July 11, 2003, 01:07 AM
Only a few micromachines and as I stumble across them.  I grabbed a Vader version for Jim, but turned out he had one already, albeit loose.  After some discussion he decided to pass.  I stumbled across the Stormie version for what I thought was pretty cheap, so I grabbed it.  Another of my minimum bid auctions.

The Fett is kind of steep, but it usually tops out around $60.  There's one that went at $122.50 :o but I can only explain that by assuming all the bidders were drunk at the time.  You can even find it online at some places for around $50.

The X-wing has been stinking ridiculous lately, which is why I snagged that one.  The recent sale prices for that are as follows:
110.00
62.88
58.18

Prior to those sales, I've seen many more in the past months well above $75.  It has been battling the Stormtrooper for top spot, though that usually wins out, averaging well over $100 now.

I happened to see it and thought I'd give it a shot.  I didn't bid on the Fett that ended about 10 minutes earlier and thought I'd give it a shot.  Was thinking $58.08 but added the extra dime at the last second.  Good thing too.
He bid one second earlier and one cent less.

I think I got a pretty good deal :D

Unfortunately, that's the only Riddell helmet I never managed to pick up way back when.  Been waiting for the past couple years for them to come down from the $125 range they were usually selling at.  Bad move I guess...   :-\

This is getting ridiculous...   :-\  Dammit.  I should've bought one of these for $75 several years ago when I picked up the other four for about $20 each!  I just figured the price would come down a bit more, since the others were all so cheap.  Dumbass.   ::)

Yup, just remembered 40% for Riddell so not quite 1/2, substantially larger...

Just browsed some of the eBay auctions on the Riddell helmets, and I've refreshed my memory on the scale - they're actually 45%, so just about 1/2.

BTW, if anyone's desperate enough and has big enough cojones, here's a Stormtrooper helmet auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2226259317&category=37887) with a BIN of "just" $175, which is about $50 below the current going rate...

Still too rich for my blood though!  Anyone?

Done.  Finally, done.

Yes, it is too much for a loose one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7916186824&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT) but they seem to have become less common in the last few months.  I'll likely regret not having the box and have some minor concerns about the condition of this one.  But I sold off a vintage lot, regaining $100, so if I subtract that (as my mind must to justify this one), then it's only around $68 new.  But it is done. :)

Yikes!   :o

But I guess CONGRATULATIONS are in order for finally finishing off your Riddell set there Brent, even if it came at a kinda steep price...  Good feeling, eh?   8)

Haven't been pursuing that elusive and expensive Stormie myself in quite a while now, but it's still on my eventual hit list sometime down the road.  I'm gonna need the box though...   ;)

Someday...  But at least there's one complete set in the JD house now!  Nice job.  Hopefully it looks nice and spiffy when it arrives!  Take a picture of it with the rest and show it off!  Don't forget to put yourself in the picture too, eh!   :-*

Got a wild request for anyone wanting to help a guy out ;)

Years past, I was moving my Riddel mini helmet collection, and my bro spilt motor oil all over my five boxes. I was able to get the helmets and papers out no problem, but the boxes were destroyed. If anyone doesnt care about keeping their boxes, and wants to sell me theirs, I'll gladly take them off your hands! :)

August 16 - September 28.  Can you say sucky mail system.  Good seller though.  Extremely well packed item in excellent condition.  He mailed it quickly and then emailed me twice asking if I'd received it yet.

It is done.  I'll get some pics off to someone on here when I get it home.

Still short that thing myself.  Annoying.  Though I haven't bothered pursuing one in quite some time.  Maybe if/when I ever get the collection room organized, and get the other 4 out on display, the glaring hole of the missing Stormie will spurn me to action finally...

These are just such fine pieces.  The detail as we all know is incredible, but man, that stormy is pretty.  Just brings a huge smile to my face and it is going to be nice being done that part of the collection.  I'm sure with patience I could have done better, but it's nice not having to watch every single auction now.  Here's what I paid for them, minus the shipping:

C-3PO $9.99
Vader $24.99
X-wing $58.00 (something like that, I don't remember exactly)
Boba $65
Stormtrooper $175

All pretty good prices relative to the time they were bought.  I've seen each go for considerably more.   :)
