Along with Slapshot, Nobody's Fool is another great movie, which was filmed in my home town of Beacon, NY.  I like watching the movie for his acting as well as seeing a bunch of my friends in the background.

He had a great career as well as a great life and will be missed.
This is the way.

I have spoken.

I'm usually not one who gets upset when a celebrity dies and even though it wasn't all that unexpected, this one bums me out a bit.  An excellent actor and an even better human being.  Thanks for the great movies (and delicious coffee), Paul.

Several years ago, I bought the 1998 movie Twilight on DVD so I could see what Reese Witherspoon's boobs looked like.  But tonight, I'll watch it for Paul Newman's performance as a grizzled ex-cop and private dick.

Where the hell are the singing cats, indeed.

Goodbye, Newman.

Furthermore, I don't believe that anyone with Mr. Smentek's "sense of humor" should be serving in any kind of official capacity on this website (or any other, for that matter), and I am calling for his immediate removal as JediDefender administrator.  The good people of this website deserve better.

Gee, Matt, you have quite an influence on here!  ;)

Damn.  What a shame.  I really enjoyed his novels, and, of course, E.R.  I didn't know he was sick, but apparently, he kept his battle with cancer private, as it should have been.

That sucks.  I really enjoyed his novels.  Hopefully they dig some crappy ones out of the vault to release.

Sadly, Michael Crichton passed away today after a private battle with cancer.  He was one of my favorite authors.

I've read a couple of his novels. Didn't think too highly of them. They are just too repetitive for me. But I do enjoy the movies that were based on his books. Oh well, I guess we still have Dan Brown to write mindless popcorn thrillers for us.

I went through a stretch back when I was in middle and high school where I ate up everything I could find by him.  Jurassic Park was the first book I read that had hundreds of pages and no pictures.  IIRC that was 7th grade and I was 13.  After that I tore through Sphere, Eaters of the Dead, Congo, Rising Sun, Terminal Man, and Andromeda Strain.

I stopped reading his stuff around Disclosure, probably too adult oriented for me at the time and I didn't get into it.

Maybe I'll go pick up one of the more recent ones and give it a look.

Truthfully Rob I'm not sure if you'll enjoy the more recent stuff.  I'd say he took a turn to the more cynical in some of his later works and was (rightly or wrongly) trying to make moral statements in many cases.  I think they're good reads and should be taken as fiction because that is what they are.  But then I'm a wee bit cynical meself.

Thanks for the advice.  I just looked at his list of books and some of the titles looked like they might have been interesting.

God rest her soul.  She had a sad life there for a while.  It's funny -- I always assumed she died young -- like Marilyn Monroe -- until I read an interview with her in Playboy last year.  I was quite surprised to find that she was still alive.  I must admitted, it took away from her mystique a little.
